The town of Cumberland, Maryland, is offering $20,000 to Americans to relocate to their city.

According to Cumberland’s website, the town will provide half of the large sum for relocating and the other half for any renovations or a down payment for a new home.

“The package, offering up to $20,000, is comprised of $10,000 in relocation cash, PLUS up to $10,000, dollar-for-dollar match, for approved renovations on an existing home, OR for a down payment on a newly constructed home within City limits,” it reads.

While the offer sounds straightforward, the Choose Cumberland Relocation Program has a few requirements.

Cumberland City Council member Laurie Marchini said the pilot program hopes to attract people “who are employed.”

“It’s really to attract people who will benefit your community,” she said, as per The Washington Post.

“It’s not a social services program; it’s to bring people in who are employed.”

As per the eligibility requirements document, parties interested must have “full-time remote employment, existing local employment, proof of self-employment or accepting a new job in the area.”

Another requirement that needs to be approved is completing a relocation application and having it approved before moving.

A few other requirements include a casual interview with the city staff and not having a current home contract.
