SINCE the COVID-19 pandemic, gyms have been more popular than ever and have seen a surge in memberships.
However, several of the beloved chains will be adjusting their hours over the Christmas period so that their workers can enjoy a well-earned break.
The Gym Group
Unlike many gym chains in the UK, the Gym Group‘s branches are open 24/7 which allows you to work out whenever you would like.
However, the chain of gyms will close on Christmas Day and Boxing Day despite usually remaining open on bank holidays.
They will resume regular hours on December 27 and will even be open to customers on New Year’s Day.
Bannatyne’s
Founded by Scottish businessman and Dragon’s Den star Duncan Bannatyne, the Bannatyne Health Clubs are one of the UK’s favourite places to work out.
The chain launched in 1997, in North Yorkshire, and now has many locations across the country.
Bannatyne’s will shut at 4pm on Christmas Eve 2024 and won’t reopen until Boxing Day.
However, Bannatyne’s will be open on January 1, 2025.
David Lloyd clubs
David Lloyd Leisure now operates over 100 gyms in the UK, after being launched by tennis legend David Lloyd in 1982.
The brand has become synonymous with the word “luxury” and offers swimming, tennis and personalised fitness classes.
The chain will be closing early on Christmas Eve and will remain closed on Christmas Day 2024.
Pure Gym
Pure Gym has more than 300 facilities across the UK, as of December 2024, and is the largest UK gym chain by membership.
Like The Gym Group, many of their clubs are open 24/7.
These 24/7 branches will remain open on Christmas Day but other gyms may be operating reduced hours.
Ask in-store or phone their reception for more information.
Total Fitness
Although Total Fitness only has 15 health clubs across England and Wales, they have a staggering 80,000 members.
Normally, their hours vary by location.
Most of the chain’s branches will close early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve at 2:30pm.
They will be closed entirely on December 25 and 26, as well as New Year’s Day.
Virgin Active
Virgin Active has been one of the public’s favourite gyms since their first gym opened in 1999.
Usually, they are open from 6am to 10pm on weekdays and 8am to 8pm on weekends.
However, they will be closing their doors on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2024.
They will reopen on December 27, 2024, before temporarily closing on New Year’s Day.
