Are the Viral Banana Pudding Oreos Real? Debunking the Latest Internet Sensation

A social media post which has since gone viral showcasing what was an advertisement for ‘Banana Pudding Cake’ Oreos has netizens wondering if it is real or another AI-created image. The post was made on Facebook by an account named ‘Authentic You’.

The post depicts a picture of the supposedly cookie packaging which shows Banana pudding beside a golden cookie with white cream in between. The picture was captioned:

“I’ll take a banana pudding over peach cobbler.”

The post managed to garner over 17,000 likes, more than 1,400 comments, and 7,300 people sharing the post. Many users believed the post and are waiting to savour the delicacy.

Sadly, the post is fake and not real, and no such cookie called Banana Pudding Oreos exists. There are no details of any such variant on the official website of the Oreo cookie manufacturer. Additionally, the Facebook ‘AI Info’ label below the post clearly mentions that the post may contain an AI-generated image, which makes the situation crystal clear.

The label said,

“This is based on a signal added by the tool used to create content. This signal typically identifies content that was entirely AI-generated instead of content that was modified with AI.”

Similar fake posts and narratives have been flooding the internet in recent times, and it is not the first time that a fake Banana Pudding Oreo has gone viral. Earlier in June, Instagram influencer and musician Darrion Da Don, with 531K followers, took to Instagram and reacted to a picture of a fake cookie, and that time it was in yellow packaging.

The content creator was also curious to know how the Banana Pudding Oreo would taste and also wanted to know which kind of banana pudding was used.

One may ask why there are so many fake Oreo variant posts that become viral and get such huge views and comments. One of the reasons could be the amazing range of different flavours available in the Oreo cookie brand. The company also regularly adds to its wide range of flavours at intervals of time, and this makes netizens believe such hoaxes.

The OffBeat Oreo range:

Hot Chicken Wings- Introduced in 2018 and available only in China. Other consumers were able to get their hands on it thanks to eBay. However, the salty and false chicken flavor did not appeal to the usual chocolate cookie fans.

Wasabi- Based on the famous Japanese horseradish flavour with condiment, Wasabi endeared to those who would like their taste buds singed by a trace of hot flavour.

Fireworks- Created in 2017 to commemorate the 4th of July, it was the usual vanilla flavour but topped with blue and red popping candies.

Swedish Fish- This did not endear much to Oreo fans and was created in collaboration with Swedish candy maker, Malaco.

Cotton Candy- Endeared to Oreo fans primarily because of its blue cotton candy-flavoured double stuff layer cream.
