ARLINGTON, Texas – Arlington police released more information about a armed robbery that turned into a shooting between police officers and the suspect on Friday night.
Arlington Police, Robbery Suspect Exchanges Shooting
What we know:
Just before 7 p.m. on Friday, January 10, Arlington police officers were called to a shopping center at Pioneer Parkway and Matlock Road for an armed robbery in progress.
A 911 caller told police they saw two people who were possibly armed enter the business.
When police arrived, they surrounded the area.
Two officers at the back door of the business saw a man exit the building and start running.
A second man in the doorway had a gun and started shooting at the officers. The officers returned fire and fired several times.
The suspect re-entered the business and attempted to exit through the front door. He was arrested by officers without incident.
Neither the police nor the suspect were injured in the shooting.
After the shots were fired, employees inside the business tried to get out through the back door. The employees had their hands and legs bound with tape, according to the police. None of the employees were injured.

The suspect, 37-year-old Kelvin Bivens, has been charged with aggravated assault against an officer and aggravated robbery.

Per Arlington Police Department policy, both officers who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave.
