First look images released by Emmerdale show many of the villagers, including the entire Dingle Clan and Zak’s long-time friend Kim Tate, gathered in The Woolpack to mourn him.

In one image, the villagers are gathered around Zak’s wicker coffin and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) stood close by, raising his pint into the air in what appears to be a touching tribute to his dad.

It seems that many of the other villagers will follow suit, too, as they step up to toast Zak.

Zak lived in Emmerdale from 1994 to 2023, despite being meant to initially only appear in a few episodes.

However, he ended up staying in the Dales for just shy of 30 years before moving away to Scotland.

He has now died off screen following the real-life death of actor Steve.

This sad storyline will kick off during Monday’s episode of the soap as viewers will see Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) receive the devastating news.

Spoilers for the episode confirm that as Cain goes for a shower, Moira answers a call from Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb), who reveals the tragic news Zak has passed away.

In the next episode of the ITV soap, Cain informs the family about Zak’s death.

It’s a sad day for the Dingles and the village at large. The bereft family takes comfort in being with each other.

Soon Cain and Sam (James Hooton) find Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) outside, looking out over the field. The trio reminisce about their late father, knocked for six by Zak’s passing.

The whole village then comes together to mourn as they gather on Main Street to wave Sam and Cain off, as they poignantly leave for Scotland to bring Zak home.

They return later in the week before funeral scenes, which will air continuously across Thursday and Friday’s episodes.

Most devastating soap deaths

SOAP viewers are frequently left heartbroken after watching some of their favourite characters bite the dust.

Here is a list of the most devastating deaths that have taken place in soapland over the years.

EASTENDERS

Barry Evans – Evil Janine (Charlie Brooks) lured her trusting fiance to Scotland for a quickie marriage after learning he was dying.

Her plan to inherit Barry’s fortune was thwarted when Barry told her that the doctors had mixed up his medical files.

Furious that she was no longer set for a windfall, she pushed Barry off a cliff after telling him their love was “fake”.

Bradley Branning – Bradley was accused of killing Stacey Slater’s rapist Archie Mitchell (Larry Lamb) after he punched him twice on the night he died.

He was spotted in the Square by a police woman who chased him up a fire escape.

Bradley lost his balance and tragically plunged to his death.

CORONATION STREET

Tina McIntyre – Tina was getting it on with Peter Barlow – despite him being married to Carla Connor.

When she threatened to reveal the truth, Carla’s brother Rob got into a physical altercation with her.

Tina lost her footing and fell off a balcony – then warned Rob she was going to tell the cops he pushed her.

In a panic, Rob brutally clobbered her over the head with a metal pipe.

Molly Dobbs – Molly was one of the victims in Corrie’s 2010 tram crash, alongside Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold).

Married to Tyrone (Alan Halsall), Molly had been having an affair with Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) in the months before her death.

This resulted in the birth of their son, Jack (Kyran Bowes), who was named after Jack Duckworth.

As fate would have it, Kevin’s wife Sally (Sally Dynevor) was by Molly’s side in her final moments.

Sally was stunned as Molly confessed Kevin was Jack’s father, before dying of her injuries.

Vera Duckworth – Having appeared regularly in Corrie since the 1970s, there was no denying Vera Duckworth was an iconic character.

Alongside her husband Jack, the pair formed one of the soap’s most beloved couples.

Viewers were heartbroken when Vera was killed off in 2008, being discovered having passed away peacefully in her chair.

Liz Dawn, who played Vera, made a brief return two years later for Bill Tarmey’s exit as Jack.

Paul Foreman – Fans were heartbroken when Paul Foreman succumbed to his illness after battling motor neurone disease.

Introduced in 2018 as David Platt’s (Jack P. Shepherd) cellmate, he later embarked on a romance – and marriage – with vicar Billy Mayhew.

The MND storyline was announced in 2023 – with the expectation it would result in the character’s death.

EMMERDALE

Sarah Sugden – After the family got into financial problems, Sarah’s son Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) decided to make some quick cash from an insurance company by setting fire to the Sugden barn.

He didn’t realise his mum was inside the building, and she got trapped in the blaze.

Nine villagers – The shocking 1993 plane crash episode brought in 18 million viewers for Emmerdale.

Mark Hughes was killed by a falling wall, Archie Brooks was burned by jet fuel, Elizabeth Pollard was killed by debris and newcomer Leonard Kempinski died in a car crash caused by the crash.

Five other non-recurring characters from the village also died.

HOLLYOAKS

Carmel McQueen – The talented singer died in shocking scenes when a train crashed into a her family’s car.

Carmel managed to free her cousin Theresa from the rubble – but got stuck in it herself.

Moments later the train exploded and Carmel died in the arms of her family members, promising to be their guardian angel.

But the Dingle family is in for a huge shock on the funeral day as a long-lost relative appears at the graveside.

Actor Steve died on 15 December 2023, following his final appearance in Emmerdale earlier that year.

In July, it was announced that Zak would be killed off in the programme with a funeral as a tribute to the former soap star.

The character has been mentioned frequently by the residents of Emmerdale in the run-up to his death.

There has been tension between family members in recent weeks[/caption]

While Gemma and mum Bernie were by his hospital bedside as he passed, Paul’s husband Billy was tragically too late after losing his phone and getting stuck in traffic.

Gemma and Bernie decided not to tell Billy that Paul had already died when he said his goodbyes to him over the phone, and since his death there’s been growing tensions between Bernie and Billy.

Thankfully, they were able to eventually put those aside to send Paul off with music, fireworks and fun.

Meanwhile in upcoming Coronation Street scenes, Gemma tells Chesney she doesn’t want Joseph to go on the school skiing trip.

Realising she fears for his safety after losing Paul, Chesney reassures her.

However, a troubled Joseph tells Chesney he doesn’t want to go and cause her stress.

Will Chesney be able to reassure his wife enough to let his son go on the trip?

Later in the week, Jenny suggests to Chesney that Gemma might like to come back to work, but Chesney firmly insists that it’s too soon.

Will Gemma agree?

Gemma is played by Dolly-Rose Campbell, who joined the ITV soap in 2014.

During her time on the Cobbles, she has given birth to quadruplets and married Chesney Brown.

Her twin brother Paul – played by Peter Ash – arrived in 2018 and the character was diagnosed with MND in early 2023.

Coronation Street - Gemma and Chesney's income

CORONATION Street’s Gemma and Chesney Winter-Brown are hiding a HUGE monthly income – despite pleading poverty.

The couple – who have five kids between them – often find themselves struggling for money.

But a die-hard fan of the ITV show worked out what the couple really had in the bank, and it will surprise some viewers.

The viewer’s workings included:

Earnings:

Gemma income (20hrs/wk) £990
Chesney income (25hrs/wek) £1,185
Universal Credit (as a couple) £2,500
Child Benefit £405

Total: £5,080

Outgoings:

Rent £1,525
Council Tax (Band A) £130
Gas and electricity £320
Water £45
TV licence £15
Broadband and landline £25
TV packages £15
House contents insurance £10
Petrol for car £40
Parking, bus, tram, taxis £40
Car insurance £70
Road tax £20
Car maintenance £50
Medical, dental, opticians £80
School clubs, kids activities £120
Food £1,600
Clothes £200
Toiletries £180
Laundry + cleaning products £120
Incidental £50
Household goods/replacements £50

Total: £4,750

This means the couple would have almost £300 a month spare.

Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.

MEGA CHANGES

Recently Mega Millions has announced that a price of a ticket will more than double next year as a part of a overhaul.

Starting in April 2025, tickets will increase from $2 to $5, Mega Millions announced.

The increase will mark the second price adjustment since the lottery game launched in 2002, Mega Millions said.

Other changes to debut in the spring include no breakeven prizes.

Mega Millions said the overhauled game will result in jackpots that start larger, grow faster and are bigger more frequently, as well as better odds of winning the jackpot.

Joshua Johnston, lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium said: “We are creating a game that both our existing players and people new to Mega Millions will love and get excited about playing.

“We expect more billion-dollar jackpots than ever before, meaning creating more billionaires and many more millionaires as the jackpots climb, plus this game will continue the important legacy of supporting great causes everywhere Mega Millions is played.”

Lottery winnings: lump sum or annuity?

Players who win big on lottery tickets typically have a choice to make: lump sum or annuity?

The two payout methods can impact how much money you get from your prize.

Annuities pay out slowly in increments, often over 30 years.

Lump sums pay all at once but in a smaller amount, as taxes are withheld in one go. That means 24% of your prize goes to Uncle Sam right away. Many states tax winnings as well.

Annuities can provide winners time to set up the financial infrastructure required to take in a life-changing amount of money, but lump sums have the benefit of being taxed only once.

Inflation is also worth considering when making a choice, as payouts do not adjust with the value of a dollar. That means that you’ll likely be getting less valuable money towards the end of an annuity.

Each state and game pays out prizes differently, so it’s best to check with your state’s lottery to confirm payment policies. A financial advisor can also help you weigh the pros and cons of each option.

Experts have varying opinions on whether to take the lump sum or take the annuity.

Fugitive dad ‘The Bushman’ on the run in wild with three kids is being HELPED by locals who think he is ‘Robin Hood’

A FUGITIVE dad dubbed ‘The Bushman’ who has spent three years in the wild with his kids could be getting help from locals who think he’s a “Robin Hood”.

Tom Phillips, 38, and this three kids – Jayda, 11, Maverick, 9, and Ember, 8 – have been on the run in the New Zealand bush since 2021.

Tom Phillips has been dubbed “The Bushman” after he disappeared with his children three years ago[/caption]

Footage of the group dressed in camo gear and carrying large rucksacks recently emerged, after pig hunters captured their movements.

The sighting last week was the first time all three children have been seen since they first disappeared.

Police in New Zealand have attempted to locate the father-of-three multiple times over the past 30 months but the expert bushman managed to escape each time.

Now suspicions have begun to swirl that sympathetic locals have been helping Tom and his kids evade capture.

Private investigator Chris Budge told the Daily Mail: “What I think has been happening is that Tom has a little bit of a network of people who think he’s Robin Hood.”

Budge, a former military policeman, spent more than two weeks in the bush searching for the family using thermal imaging equipment.

He said: “The girls are now heading into their teenage years and they are going to need stuff.”

The ex-cop add he thinks the girls likely have “Stockholm Syndrome” and have been “brainwashed”.

Budge adds: ‘I think the only two or three ways that it will end is if someone is in trouble with the police and they use their knowledge of Phillips as a bargaining chip.

“Secondly, they get accidentally seen like they have been last week or, thirdly, one of the kids gets sick.

“I don’t think Tom would let one of his kids die.”

Earlier this week, the mother of the three missing children revealed her own heartbreaking theory after the gang were spotted.

Cat believe that someone in the community has been helping her ex-husband and children stay hidden.

She said:  “One hundred per cent somebody is helping them.

“Somebody is supplying them or just inadvertently leaving things in an accessible place.”

An emotional Cat told Mata Reporters that she believed the brief conversation was a desperate plea from Jayda.

She said: “Is that a cry for help? Is that ‘Does anybody know that we’re here? Is anyone coming for us?’

“We don’t get to hear the tone of her voice but to me, that’s what I think.

‘It’s like she’s trying to say something without actually saying something because her father is right there, and she’s worried if she says the wrong thing and words it the wrong way.

“She’s worried about later repercussions.”

The sighting marked the first time Cat had seen any footage of her children in nearly three years and was relieved to see them alive.

She added: “It was really good, they’re carrying their own gear, it’s the best news that anybody could hope for.

“I can’t imagine what they’ve endured in these three years, it’s just wrong on so many levels.”

TIMELINE OF HIS DISAPPEARANCE

Separated from his wife for several years, Tom had reportedly been awarded custody of the children, whom he was home-schooling.

Full details of the couple’s domestic arrangements have not been published because in New Zealand it is prohibited to report on family court proceedings.

In September 2021, the dad and his three kids vanished for the first time after his truck was found abandoned at a beach.

When they appeared shortly afterwards he said they were on a camping trip.

Phillips had been due to appear in court charged with wasting police resources but failed to do so.

In December 2021 the dad and the three kids disappeared for the second time – never to reappear again.

Phillips was spotted in the farming town of Te Kuit last year when he robbed a bank at gunpoint before fleeing in a stolen motorcycle alongside a child.

A month later, in August, he was seen speeding in a stolen Toyota Hilux.

He was caught on CCTV in November with a child, trying to break into a store in Piopio.

Earlier this month he was reportedly seen in Okoroire Hot Springs Hotel in Ōtorohanga but he managed to flee before police arrived.

Concerns are growing over the state of the three children who have not seen their mum since 2021.

Paranoid Putin sends woman, 24, to GULAG for 12 years after she was accused of selling Vlad’s tank secrets to Ukraine

RAGING tyrant Vladimir Putin has sent a woman, 24, to gulag after she was accused of selling secrets to Ukraine.

Viktoria Mukhametova has been sent to a penal colony for 12-and-a-half years after she was accused of handing Kyiv blueprints for Russia‘s tanks.

Russian authorities blasted her for treason, spying and selling secrets from the tank factory where she worked.

She is alleged to have sent the plans for Vlad’s tanks – of which nearly 9,000 have been lost in Ukraine – for £980.

Asked what she needed the money for, she replied: “Just to live.”

Viktoria was also fined £2,400 for her alleged crimes.

Her husband also works at the vast  Uralvagonzavod plant in Nizhny Tagil and, like her, was brutally detained by Vlad’s cops.

He faces similar treason charges for passing secrets to Ukraine and a separate trial.

When they were arrested he was seen pinned to the ground by FSB agents.

Viktoria showed no visible emotion as she was found guilty of treason and sentenced to remain behind bars until 2037.

Russia‘s brutal penal colonies see prisoners live and work in harsh conditions.

It is at one of these facilities where Putin’s hated enemy Alexei Navalny died back in February.

Russia is currently racked by spy-mania – with Putin’s paranoid officials jumping at shadows as the war rolls on in Ukraine.

Earlier this year, Russia convicted Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich on a totally bogus charge of espionage.

They accused him of gathering secret information about the same defence company where Viktoria worked.

He was later finally freed from the tyrant’s clutches in a prisoner swap.

Putin was seen at the plant – which makes the T-90 main battle tank – with two functionaries seen behind him carrying his suspected nuclear briefcase and a fold-out bulletproof shield.

The plant also repurposes creaking, rusting Soviet-era tanks for use in the war against Ukraine.

Details of what secrets Mukhametova allegedly passed to Ukraine were not disclosed.

Vlad is more powerful than ever, says ex-Kremlin aide

By Georgie English, Foreign News Reporter

VLADIMIR Putin is more powerful than ever, a former Kremlin adviser has warned.

Political scientist Nikolay Petrov believes Putin is irreplaceable and virtually unmovable from the top seat in Russia due to his iron-clad control over those beneath him.

Political scientist Nikolay Petrov believes Putin is irreplaceable and virtually unmovable from the top seat in Russia due to his iron-clad control over those beneath him.

Most were left deciding if they wanted to support Putin and stay in Russia – or desert him at the beginning of the invasion.

Almost all of those who stayed close to the tyrant rallied around him despite the looming threat of additional Western sanctions, Petrov said.

Petrov also warned that life after Putin’s reign could see Russia destabilised with no one powerful enough left to take the reins.

He said Putin’s weak cronies and brainwashed citizens are completely reliant on him and a period of chaos would follow without the tyrant.

Final chance to get one-time payments up to $3,244 from ‘fingerprint’ settlement and no proof is needed to get the cash

US citizens are being urged to check if they’re eligible to claim a one-time payment worth up to $3,244 as part of a “fingerprint” settlement.

It is now the final chance for those affected by the class action lawsuit to apply for the cash with no proof of purchase even needed to make a case.

Getty
Magid Glove are settling a $5,175 million dispute which could earn people a whopping $3,244[/caption]

Popular protective equipment and clothing brand Magid Glove are at the heart of the $5,175 million settlement.

They are accused of violating Illinois laws by using “fingerprint time clocks” and taking temperatures with scanners over an eight-year period.

Anyone who used a fingerprint-scanning clock or had their temperature taken by one of the scanner’s may be eligible.

According to the class action lawsuit, Magid Glove used the fingerprint time clocks and temperature scanners without notifying people properly.

The tech collected biometric information through the devices – something that plaintiffs argue violates Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act.

It affects those who used either device at Magid’s Romeoville, Illinois, facility between January 8, 2016, up to August 30, 2024.

Magid hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing as part of the case but have agreed to pay a whopping $5.175 million to those affected.

They hope this will resolves the BIPA class action lawsuit and say it has been settled to “save the time, expense, and distraction of litigation”.

The settlement will see anyone who used a fingerprint scanner be able to claim back payments of around $3,244.38.

A generous $135.26 is also set to go to those who had their temperature taken using a scanner.

If both devices were used then a person can apply for both payments.

To claim people first need to check they’re eligible by ensuring they used either device at the correct facility within the time period.

Then go to the Magid Glove BIPA settlement website or follow this link to begin filling out the form.

A claim login ID and pin are needed to begin an application.

Claimants have less than a month to exclude themselves from the deal or object with the cut off date being October 29.

The final deadline for entering a claim comes on November 19.

The approval hearing for the settlement is set for less than a month later on December 20.

The action lawsuit website helping those claim have urged others to avoid making false applications as it may harm the eligible class members.

MORE SETTLEMENTS

Class actions offer money for problems experienced by large groups of people.

U-Haul is paying out $5 million after a data breach compromised customer information.

Payouts will be around $100, but the deadline is coming in October.

Visa and Mastercard are paying billions after customers allegedly paid excessive fees.

The deadline in that case is August 30.

A USAA lawsuit is paying out military service members.

You could get $100 from a CPAP settlement.

Elsewhere, Americans are eligible for a one-time payment from a $1.9 million pot after a popular online shoe company reportedly failed its customers.

Individuals impacted between 2020 and 2022 are eligible to claim part of the hefty settlement.

The Federal Trade Commission is sending one-time payments to thousands of customers who’ve shopped at shoe retailer Hey Dude.

The earnings come after Hey Dude allegedly suppressed user reviews and violated refund policies.

Additionally, Hey Dude was said to conceal 80 percent of reviews that had three or fewer stars out of five.

Between January 2020 and June 2022, the FTC alleged that Hey Dude only showcased five-star reviews on its website.

What's a class-action settlement?

CLASS action lawsuits offer groups of people, or 'classes,' a way to band together in court.

These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.

When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.

These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company’s doorstep.
