Thank you for your advice after daughter’s husband left her – you really helped

DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN my daughter’s husband suddenly left her she was in bits and, as her dad, I didn’t know how to help her.

Out of the blue he told her that he no longer loved her.

It turned out that he was having an affair.

She’s 40, he’s 41 and they have two young children. I’m 68.

My daughter was devastated and things got even worse when he said he wanted to sell the family house.

She couldn’t afford a solicitor.

You understood how upset I was too, and followed up to see how I was, which was so kind.

Although my daughter and her husband have now split, and she and the children are hurting, things are slowly calming down.

Your empathy for a complete stranger helped so much. Thank you.

I work at Instagram & there’s a horrific reason you should NEVER post your kids online – the risks are greater than ever

BEING a parent in the digital age can be tricky to navigate – knowing what to post and when to can be difficult.

Thankfully, mums and podcasters Zoe and Georgia have sat down with the experts to find out exactly what to do.

Vicki Shotbolt revealed the dangers of AI

The mums who host the podcast Made By Mammas sat down with Instagram’s Tara Hopkins and ParentZone’s Vicki Shotbolt to reveal their top tips to safeguarding children online.

Tara Hopkins who is the global director and public policy leader for Instagram while Vicki helps run a charity on keeping kids safe online.

But some of the answers the mum got had left them stunned, Georgia said: “The thing is, this is all new to everybody and we’re all just muddling through trying to work out what we feel comfortable with.”

Zoe revealed that she asked if they should show kids’ faces online and was left shocked by the answer she got.

The mum revealed she regularly shared her children online and that it was the centre of the podcast when she and Georgia first started – but now times were changing.

She added that the answer had stayed with her and was now covering her child’s face on her social media channels.

Now the pair have revealed safety issues concerning kids online and it’s not just what people can see – it’s what people can make too.

AI TECH

Vicki revealed the reason she was so against having children be displayed online, and it was all down to the new technology of AI.

She said: “Any image now that is online can be taken and manipulated by AI to look and appear in a different way to how you originally shared it.”

At the thought of what could be done with children’s photos, Zoe said she ‘felt sick’.

Vicki added that the issue was that once a photo had been posted online, you cannot draw back consent to have it fully removed.

Discussing her own pictures being uploaded, Vicki recalled a hungover photo of her being posted online by a friend and thinking ‘you didn’t ask’.

And the same goes for children, she says who give no consent to their parents, and are unable to when they are so young.

Georgia went to ask what the real dangers were with posting children online, and while Vicki calls herself a tech optimist, she said when it does go wrong in the digital world, it really goes wrong.

How to keep kids safe online

As we navigate the digital world as parents - UNICEF have offered five top tips to help keep your children safe online.

  1. Have honest conversations with your children about who they communicate with and how, and who can see what they post online., Explain that anything that goes online – pictures, videos, comments, things they share with others and what others post and share with them and about them – leaves behind a trail of information about them. To make sure they’re leaving a positive “digital footprint”, they should be mindful about what they do and say online.
  2. Check that your child’s device is always updated and running the latest software, and that privacy settings are on and configured to minimise data collection so that people don’t see any information that you don’t want them to see., Help your child learn to keep personal information private. If your privacy settings are not secure, anyone can see your information., Keep webcams covered when not in use. For younger children, tools such as parental controls like safe search, can help keep online experiences positive.
  3. Create opportunities for your child to have safe and positive online interactions with friends, family and you. Connecting with others can be an excellent opportunity for you to model kindness and empathy in virtual interactions., Help your child recognise and avoid misinformation and disinformation, age-inappropriate content and content that can potentially cause anxiety or other harm. Introduce them to trustworthy sources of information.
  4. Promote positive online behaviour by practising it yourself. Be mindful of the example you set and what you share online about your child, including their photos and videos., Encourage your child to be kind online and to support friends and family by sending positive messages or emojis., If they have classes online, encourage them to be respectful of others and to be mindful of what can be seen on camera to maintain privacy.
  5. Spending time online can be a great opportunity for your children to be creative, learn, use their voices to share their views and support causes that are important to them., Encourage your child to use resources on the internet to help them get up and get moving, like online exercise videos for children and video games that require physical movement.

She noted the increase of child abuse images online were ‘horrifying’ and that AI was making it worse.

In fact, the number of child sexual abuse image crimes recorded by UK police increased by 25% last year, according to data obtained by children’s charity the NSPCC.

“I’d hate to scare anybody, but the risks now because of AI are greater than they used to be,” revealed Vicki.

Tara also agreed with the sentiment saying it was ‘an incredibly difficult space to be in.’

Visibility

On Instagram, Tara revealed a great way for children to be safe online was to create a private account over a public one which anyone can see.

A private account enables you or your child to accept or not accept people to see their content.

She also recommended using the Close Friends feature on the app which lets you send videos and photos available for 24 hours to the people they choose to share it with.

Tara also recommended covering children’s faces with stickers or emojis before setting the photo live on Instagram to help protect them.

“There’s lots of different ways to do it,” said Tara.

Ten Hag has spent £100m trying to replace Maguire… but stats prove England ace is easily Man Utd’s best centre-back

ERIK TEN HAG has spent around £100m on trying to replace Harry Maguire – but the stats prove he’s Manchester United’s best centre-back.

Ten Hag ensured he was reunited with his ex-Ajax defenders as United chiefs paid £56.7m for Lisandro Martinez in 2022 and splashed out £42.7m on Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

This comes after Erik ten Hag has spent nearly £100m on his replacements

But the data SunSport has gathered shows that Maguire is actually the most in-form centre-half at Old Trafford.

After a solid debut season in Manchester, Maguire soon faced the wrath of fans, became a mock target for rivals and a soft touch for the experts after some questionable performances.

The fact that the England ace – who arrived from Leicester for £80m – was automatically handed the club captaincy by Ole Gunnar Solkajaer didn’t help his case.

And he was soon stripped of the armband by Ten Hag in June 2023, and replaced by Bruno Fernandes, after falling behind the first-choice pairing of Martinez and Raphael Varane.

United even agreed to sell Maguire to West Ham last summer – but the former Sheffield United defender vowed to fight for his place.

And he’s done just that. By proving that he’s arguably the best centre-back at Ten Hag’s disposal this season.

In fact, Maguire has beaten Martinez and De Ligt in nine out of 13 stat categories recorded in all competitions so far this term.

Maguire has won the most duels with 5.3 per 90 minutes, compared to Martinez’s 2.9 and De Ligt’s 4.8.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

The England star also came out on top in interceptions won, possession won, and successful completed passes (61.81) per 90.

And he’s level with De Ligt in terms of goals scored (one) and total shots, despite starting four matches in all competitions this term.

Martinez comes out on top only in tackles made and won – which is synonymous with his “Butcher” reputation.

The Argentine enjoyed an impressive debut season in 2022-23 but his form significantly dropped after recovering from surgery on his metatarsal bone last summer.

Both Maguire and Martinez were in-and-out of the matchday squad last term, as United recorded an unprecedented number of defensive injuries and recorded a negative goal difference for the first time in Prem history.

Maguire started the first two Prem games this season, but was dropped for a mistake during Danny Welbeck‘s opener in their 2-1 defeat at Brighton.

New signing De Ligt was brought in to start instead but has come under intense scrutiny for his own performances.

Particularly in United’s 3-0 home defeat to Spurs and the 3-3 Porto game where the Red Devils again lost a 2-0 lead.

man utd worst starts to a season poster with erik ten hag and ole gunnar solskjaer

Club legend Paul Scholes has frequently said: “I’m not convinced De Ligt is better than Maguire.”

Maguire was brought on in the final 10 minutes in the Europa League in Portugal when United trailed 3-2 – before his headed winner saved Ten Hag’s job at the death.

The 31-year-old and Jonny Evans were then trusted to start against Aston Villa, replacing De Ligt and Martinez – who many assumed would be the first-choice pairing going forward.

But Maguire faced yet another setback after suffering a fresh calf injury and left Villa Park in a protective boot, after he was replaced by De Ligt at half-time.

People scoffed at Maguire starting against Unai Emery’s side but Ten Hag will see his temporary loss as a big one.

Aldi launches new glow-in-the dark wine just in time for Halloween

ALDI has launched a new glow-in-the-dark wine just in time for Halloween – and shoppers can’t wait to get their hands on it.

The latest spooky Specialbuy is in-stores now for only £7.19.

Aldi has unveiled the limited-edition version of its already-popular Rebrobates Red Wine just in time for Halloween.

The Reprobates Ghouliburra Red has a new glow-in-the-dark label – perfect for any spooky party.

By day it may look like your average bottle of wine, but at night, a vibrant, glowing skeleton is visible – ready to light up the room.

According to the supermarket giant, the red wine is “a smooth, medium-bodied Australian blend” with red berry aromas, complemented by oaky vanilla and chocolate notes.

And for those who are fans of the original Reprobates, Aldi has introduced a 1.5L box version – the equivalent of two bottles.

It’s priced at only £13.99 and is ideal for a Halloween party this year.

It comes as Aldi launched their “most divisive product of 2024” just in time for Halloween.

The supermarket uploaded a video showing off their new Monster Munch Mayo that has arrived in stores ahead of Halloween.

The limited edition bottles of pickled onion-flavoured sauce is available to buy now and will set you back £1.99.

In a clip, an Aldi staff member said: “The most divisive product of 2024 has landed at Aldi.

“We’ve got our new, scarily good Heinz Monster Munch Mayo.”

They then asked team members whether they were “Team Monster Munch Mayo or Team Absolutely No Wayo?”

One said: “Pickled onion flavour is my favourite Munch Munch crisps, so I’m going to give this a go just because they’re my favourite crisps.”

Another said: “Oh, my God—10 out of 10. I need to try this!”

However, others weren’t as sold.

One said: “It’s an interesting concept, and I’d probably try it once, but maybe not again.”

A second added:” I think I’ll stick with normal mayo.”

Aldi shoppers also took to the comments to share their views on the launch.

One said: “Has anyone tried this? I’m tempted but scared.”

And one wrote: “This sounds rank.”

Some Aldi shoppers who had already tried it raved about the taste.

One commented: “Brought it today, was shocked, it’s tastes just like the crisps, will be great with chips or on a ham sarnie.”

And one agreed: “It’s absolutely lush.”

How to save on Halloween

CUT-OUTS WON’T KEEP: Once carved, pumpkins last just three to five days before they start to rot. So wait until a day or two before Halloween to carve yours, to ensure you won’t have to buy a replacement.

CHILLING CARVINGS: Carve your pumpkin right first time. Download free templates from Hobbycraft to help ensure no slip-ups.

DEVILISHY CHEAP DECORATIONS: Create spooky spider webs using old string or rope.

PAY LESS FOR FACE PAINTS: Cut costs by using your old eyeliners and eyeshadows, and dab on some talc when you need a ghostly white shade.

CUT-PRICE CANDY: Before you buy sweets to give out as treats, clear out your cupboards and see what you have. If you need more, shop bulk deals and compare the price per kilo before you buy.

PETRIFYING POT LUCK: Ask your guests to each bring a delicious themed dish to your party to keep hosting costs down.

SPINE-CHILLING TUNES: Turn to YouTube for a frighteningly good free playlist. There are dozens of channels with hour-long music mixes.

HOLD A SPOOKY SWISH: Swishing — or clothes-swapping with friends — is an easy way to get a new wardrobe. Hold a spooky swish before Halloween to trade costumes for kids and adults.

FRIGHTENING FREEBIES: Sign up for a free local Halloween event. Check your local Nextdoor or Facebook pages, or search eventbrite.co.uk for ideas.

BLOODY GOOD DEAL: Don’t fork out for expensive fake blood. Make your own edible version instead. You can use it for cakes and to decorate costumes.

SHOP ON NOV 1: Be organised and bag the bargains for next year by hitting the shops the day after Halloween. Remember to buy your kids’ costumes a size larger to allow for growth.

A girl I like stopped messaging me, but now she’s everywhere I turn – what do I do?

DEAR DEIDRE: THE girl I like stopped messaging me, but now she’s everywhere I turn.

I can’t help thinking this is more than just a coincidence and that she’s trying to show me she’s interested again.

I’m 19 and a student.

Last year this girl, also 19, and I started chatting.

But she ghosted me in the summer.

Now I see her on campus.

I know my prisoner ex is bad news but I can’t stop thinking about him – I’m obsessed

DEAR DEIDRE: ALTHOUGH I know my prisoner ex is bad news, I can’t stop thinking about him.

I’m obsessed, and would do anything to get him back, even though he treated me badly and hurt me.

I’m 40 and he’s 48. I started writing to him in prison during the lockdowns, when I was lonely after the break-up of my marriage.

He was so funny and interesting that I quickly fell for him.

Then I started visiting him, and our time together was magical.

I don’t know exactly what he did, but it must have been bad because he’s a lifer – he’s already done 15 years in jail.

I told him I would wait for him to be released, so we could be together properly. I said he could move in with me.

But our relationship grew toxic. He became very jealous and paranoid.

Then I found out he was writing to other women and we split.

I was devastated.

One night I went out with some friends and ended up having a one-night stand with a man I met in a bar.

I missed my ex and started writing again.

He kept asking me if there was anyone else while we were apart.

Eventually, I confessed.

I thought he’d understand but he dumped me and called me a whore.

It’s been six months and I still cry myself to sleep.

Why do I miss him so much?

After one woman asked for jean recommendations online, she was advised to pick up a pair of the budget-friendly trousers[/caption]

In a post on Mumsnet, one user shared the struggle she was having finding a pair of affordable jeans.

“I’m trying to find some wide legged jeans. I’ve fallen in love with these from Me&Em but they are so expensive,” she wrote.

She asked her fellow mums if they had come across “anything similar for a less eye-watering price.”

While her post received dozens of comments, a clear favourite emerged.

The £22 Dark Wash Ultra Wide-Leg Denim Jeans from Tu by Sainsbury’s received countless mentions in the comments section.

“These are wide and very inexpensive from Tu,” wrote one Sainsbury’s shopper.

“They are very nice quality for the price.”

When the original poster shared her concern that the jeans would be too low waist, other buyers were quick to reassure her.

“I’ve got those Tu ones and they’re high waisted, on me at least. They’re really nice actually,” said one woman.

“I got mine from Tu by Sainsbury’s, [they’re] high waisted and possibly the most comfortable jeans I’ve ever worn,” wrote another Mumsnet user.

“I’ve just got these last week and I am in love!” said a recent Tu convert.

“They are so comfortable and true to size. [They’re] a bargain for jeans.”

Another woman proved to be a long-time fan of the brand, revealing that she has “lived in £18 Tu ones for years.”

Tu shoppers also shared their thoughts on the wide-leg look in the review section of the site.

The jeans received an almost perfect rating of 4.8 stars out of five, with 97% of shoppers saying they would recommend them.

Why is it so hard to find the perfect pair of jeans...

Deputy Fashion Editor Abby Mchale has revealed why it's so hard to find the perfect pair of jeans...

If there is one item of clothing that is never easy to buy it’s jeans.
If you think you’ve got your size nailed after finding the perfect fit, nine times out of ten when you next come to buying a pair you will most likely still have to try before you buy.
But what is it about jeans that makes them such a difficult fit?
Well there isn’t a universal size guide that every retailer sticks to, so this means that one brands size 12 could be an inch or so different to another brands and that can make all the difference.
Plus, it’s all about the denim, some jeans are made with stiffer denim that don’t give them as much give.
Whereas some stretchier denims obviously have more stretch which means they can be more forgiving.
However, don’t forget that all denim does eventually stretch, so when you’re trying jeans on and they feel ever so slightly tight, remember that they will actually give after wearing them.
So sadly this does mean the best piece of advice is to just try them on, however if you are short of time or can’t be bothered then the Japanese jean test I have found works quite effectively.
Wrap the waistband of the jeans around your neck, if they can wrap all the way round and don’t leave a gap then they should fit your waist.

“Wore them to the office today and [I got] so many complements!” wrote one woman.

“[They’re] so soft but actually look and feel like jeans, super flattering, more colours please!”

Another shopper said the Tu buy were the “best jeans I’ve ever owned.”

“I ordered them, I tried them on, I wore them – that has never happened during a long history of buying jeans. Will be buying a stock load!” she said.

Tu customers praised the comfortable fit and lightweight feel of the wide-legged jeans[/caption]

“I’m so glad these are back, great fit, great length, super comfortable,” commented a third buyer.

“Love these, they are super comfy and the denim feels so soft and lightweight,” wrote another commenter.

“I love these jeans the denim is soft and they sit perfectly not too high waisted but they keep everything together,” said one woman.

“I always find the perfect pair of jeans at Tu and these don’t disappoint!” commented another fan.

“I’ve already worn them for a night out and they are perfect! Such a flattering fit on a pear-shaped lady!”

The wide-leg jeans are available in sizes eight through 22, in short, regular, and long.

Abby’s top tips

If a brand offers both Fit Analytics and a size chart, check both for a clearer picture of what size to order.

Don’t forget that while buying jeans online may be just a click of a button, if they don’t fit you, you’ll have the less convenient problem of having to return them. And some brands, including Zara, only offer free returns to store.

Some brands ask for measurements in inches, and others in centimetres – so make a note of both! Your waist measurement

is the smallest part of your torso, usually just above your belly button, and your hip measurement is the widest point of your hips.

Measure yourself every time you need to buy a new pair of jeans – think of it like getting a new bra. Your weight can often fluctuate, so what you were six months ago may not be what you are now.

Watch heartbreaking moment Married At First Sight’s Caspar is left alone after dinner party – as fans spot cast ‘feud’

MARRIED At First Sight star Caspar was left ranting to himself after he failed to be supported by any of his co-stars during the latest episode of the show.

Throughout the course of the series, Caspar has seen his married to Emma more rocky than most.

The posh country boy has already upset his bride from the get go, when he revealed on their honeymoon he wasn’t attracted to curvy women.

As the latest dinner party got underway, it was clear that things were still far from okay for the married couple.

After an awful meeting with his in-laws where he once again explained how unattracted he is to “curvy women”, Caspar was left raging at the fact Emma had been unable to work on any changes they had set within their marriage.

As the conversation got brought up in front of the rest of the group at the dinner party, Emma quipped to Caspar: “I don’t want to shoot down your…”

He soon butted in as he huffed and puffed around the dinner table.

After saying that Emma “hadn’t taken on board any of the changes”, Caspar could be seen looking exasperated around the table as he put his head in his hands.

Seconds later, he stood up and proceeded to walk away from the party setting after it all seemed to get too much.

Leaving his co-stars stunned, a perplexed Richelle said: “What’s he doing?”

As Orson insisted he had just had enough, Caspar could be heard seething to the show’s producers after walking away from the party.

Unleashing a sweary rant, he said: “I just need out of that – f***ing b******t.

“I’ve had f***ing enough of it.

“I need to see some sort of f***ing sign that she might f***ing change.

“One mistake, one f***ing mistake…”

His co-stars appeared to hear his swearing from the table as they looked around shocked but not one of them offered to get up and leave to check that Caspar was okay.

It has prompted fans online to suspect that there could be a secret entire cast feud against Caspar on the show.

Writing online, one E4 viewer commented: “I don’t think he has anything in common with any of the other guys there. They probably do all their bonding in the gym.”

As someone else penned: “Lol at no one going to comfort Caspar, having to talk to the cameraman.”

Stormzy spotted kissing US singer Victoria Monet – three months after split with Maya Jama

STORMZY has been seen kissing American singer Victoria Monet – just three months after his split from Maya Jama.

Our exclusive pictures show Stormzy, 31, and Victoria, 35, on Thursday evening.

The 6ft 5in star grinned as he gave Victoria a hug before kissing her on the lips.

An onlooker said: “Both Stormzy and Victoria looked absolutely smitten with each other.

“They kissed and when he hugged her he picked her up in the air.

“It seems like he is in a great place after his split from Maya.

Grammy Award-winning R&B star Victoria announced last month that she had split from her fitness instructor boyfriend John Gaines in late 2023.

The pair share three-year-old daughter Hazel – who, aged two, became the youngest-ever Grammy nominee last year for Best Traditional R&B Performance after featuring in Victoria’s song Hollywood.

In 2018, Victoria came out as bisexual – and she said in an interview last week it “feels amazing” to be one of a number of female singers being open about their sexuality.

She added: “I’m definitely willing to put my business out there and make it known, so people feel like there is representation for them.”

Stormzy, real name Michael Owuo, and Love Island host Maya, 30, announced they had split for good in July – having first started dating in 2014.

They broke up five years later before rekindling their romance last year.

But the pair revealed their final break-up in a joint statement this summer – with sources telling The Sun at the time that Maya insisted she was not ready to settle down.

In their statement, posted on Instagram, Stormzy and Maya said they “spent five years manoeuvring life apart” after their initial split.

They said they had “tried their best” to make it work the second time around, but made the decision to go their separate ways.

But they added: “We still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we’ve had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends.”

A source previously told us: “They ultimately broke up so they wouldn’t waste each other’s time.

“They are at totally different places in their lives.”

Stormzy and Maya’s split came weeks after they were snapped partying together at Glastonbury.

KYLIE Jenner appears to have got her lip and face filler ‘dissolved’ and has debuted her natural look in a new TikTok video with her kids.

The 27-year-old looked a little different as she took part in one of the viral trends on the social media platform.

Kylie recorded herself flipping her son Aire upside with the Jack Johnson’s Upside Down playing in the background.

The mom-of-two captioned the post: “dont think we did that right,” with a laughing emoji.

The Kardashians star looked incredible in a basic white t-shirt, black leggings and no make-up on.

Some fans took to Reddit to say the same thing.

One fan asked on the discussion website: “Did she get her filler reduced/dissolved?”

They added: “She looks different here to me what do you all think?”

Another wrote: “It makes me happy to see her embracing herself for once. I do feel like she’s slowly begun to realize that less IS more when it comes to the face. She looks so much like herself (pre-surgeries) in this pic.”

A second said: “i can see her teenage features a little in this photo.”

“This looks a little bit like the old Kylie. Did she dissolve filler or get a new filter? We’ll never truly know,” a third chimed in.

CHANGING FACE

Kylie has been honest about what work she has had done over the years.

The reality star first got lip fillers back in 2015, when she was 18-years-old, but then three years later she said she got it all dissolved.

Since then she’s had it re-done.

Back in 2019 Kylie confirmed to fans that she’s never had surgery – and it is all down to other things.

Kylie told Paper: “People think I fully went under the knife and completely reconstructed my face, which is completely false.

Over the past year or so Kylie has been embracing her natural beauty.

Back in 2023, she mentioned it all on an episode of Kardashians how they could as a family help others do the same.

Speaking with Kourtney and Khloe, Kylie said: “I just feel like we have a huge influence.

“What are we doing with our power?

“I just see so many young girls on the internet now fully editing (photos of themselves).

“I went through that stage too, and I feel like I’m in a better place, but other people can in still insecurities in you.”

In another chat with HommeGirls magazine, she explained how she loves the fact that she can see herself in her children.

Kylie said last year: “I see my features in my daughter and my son now, but you know, my daughter looks like me.

“I get to see my beauty in her, and it’s made me love myself more for sure. Beauty is always changing for me.”

Kylie is mom to Stormi, six, and Aire, two.

She shares the two with ex Travis Scott.
