Is Iran’s top military chief a TRAITOR? Rumours grow that missing Esmail Qaani is behind Israel’s incredible terror cull

THE disappearance of Iran’s top military commander has sparked shock claims that he is the traitor behind Israel’s incredible cull of its terrorist enemies.

Brigadier General Esmail Qaani, 67, is the terror state’s most powerful military figure after legendary strongman Qasem Soleimani was assassinated by a US strike.

Qaani has not been heard of – even by his family – since an October 4 strike on a bunker in Beirut where he was believed to be meeting Hezbollah top brass.

But sources claimed today that Qaani was being interrogated while under house arrest – and was under suspicion of being Israel’s top spy.

Qaani was believed to have died alongside Hezbollah heir apparent Hashem Saffeieddine, 60, in last week’s bunker blast.

But sources in Lebanon, Iraq and Iran have since revealed was not at the meeting – and dodged another a week earlier in which Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was blitzed.

And his vanishing act was last night sparking consternation across Iran’s panicked military as rumours spread that he had turned on the evil Islamist regime.

Qaani leads Iran‘s powerful Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force and has been confirmed to be “alive and in good health” by the regime.

He is also being probed over the September 27 bunker buster assassination of Nasrallah, 64.

Nasrallah’s death sparked a desperate hunt for Israel’s mole by the Guard Corps – whose investigators are now said to suspect their own leader..

Multiple sources said yesterday/today (Thurs) that Qaani and his team are under lockdown as interrogators demand answers.

Qaani became head of the Quds Force – the IRGC’s overseas unit – after the US killing of its previous leader, Qassem Soleimani, in January 2020.

Israel has succeeded in wiping out dozens of enemy commanders across the region with intelligence led assassinations and its incredible pager and walkie-talkie bomb blitz.

They included Safieddine, who is believed to have been killed at a meeting of Hezbollah’s Shura Council in Beirut which Qanni was due to attend.

Within minutes of arriving, his bunker beneath tower blocks in southern Beirut was hammered  by multiple strikes which demolished the neighbourhood.

Qaani was, at first, thought to have been killed or wounded but has since emerged that he pulled out of the meeting.

On Tuesday, Iraj Masjedi, deputy commander of the Quds Force and former Iranian ambassador to Baghdad said Qaani was “in good health and is carrying out his daily duties”.

The commander of an armed faction close to Iran said: “The Iranians have serious suspicions that the Israelis have infiltrated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, especially those working in the Lebanese arena, so everyone is currently under investigation.

“Nothing is certain at the moment. The investigations are still ongoing and all possibilities are open.”

It comes as:

Iran’s probe into Nasrallah’s death have also focused on the final movements of Quds force commander Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan, who died alongside the terror chief.

Nilforoushan had only just taken over from Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, who was killed in another Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate in Syrai in April.

Sources said Nasrallah had been outside Beirut’s southern suburbs the night before his killing, but returned to the area to meet with Nilforoushan in a secret operations room.

Nilforoushan, who had flown from Beirut from Tehran earlier, was taken directly from the plane to the bunker beneath in the Haret Hreik suburb.

And Nasrallah was killed by six enormous bunker-buster bombs as soon as he set foot in the meeting to join Qaani’s comrade.

Another source said: “The breach was 100 percent Iranian and there is no question about this part.”

Qaani was in Lebanon a week later and had been expected to attend the Shura Council meeting at Safieddine’s invitation on the day of the air strike.

But he was reported to have Qaani apologised and backed out shortly before Israel struck again.

A Hezbollah source told Middle East Eye: “Israel targeted the venue of this meeting with a raid that was bigger and harsher than the raid that targeted Nasrallah.

“Safieddine’s head was what was wanted, and no one else.

“Qaani was invited to this meeting and under the current circumstances he should have been present.”

Who is Esmail Qaani?

IRAN'S top military commander hasn't been since an October 4 bunker strike in Beirut

Esmail Qaan is an Iranian brigadier general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, appointed Qaani as the Commander of the Quds Force in 2020 following the death of General Qasem Soleimani was killed by a targeted U.S. drone strike near Baghdad International Airport.

During the Iran–Iraq War between 1980-1988, Qaani led the 5th Nasr Brigade and 21st Imam Reza Armored Brigade.

In 1981, he received his military training in Imam Ali Officers’ Academy in Tehran.

In the 1990s, he fought against Afghan drug cartels on Iran’s border with Afghanistan.

Qaani was appointed deputy commander of the Quds Force in 1997 and oversaw financial disbursements to paramilitary groups including Hezbollah.

Ethel Kennedy’s life after husband RFK’s assassination as tragedy left her so heartbroken she refused to speak about him

ACTIVIST Ethel Kennedy never remarried or even spoke about her husband, Robert F Kennedy, after his horrific assassination.

Kennedy died on Thursday at age 96 after a life of tragedy, bravery, and progress.

The news was shared by her grandson, Joe Kennedy III, who said their “hearts are full of love.”

“She died this morning from complications related to a stroke suffered last week,” he said in a statement.

“Along with a lifetime’s work in social justice and human rights, our mother leaves behind nine children, 34 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nephews, all of whom love her dealer.

“Please keep her in your hearts and prayers.”

Kennedy is remembered for her esteemed history advocating for human rights, despite living through the tragedy of her husband’s assassination.

On June 6, 1968, Robert F was shot and killed in Los Angeles by Sirhan Sirhan as he campaigned for president.

He was 42, three months into his run, and his wife was four months pregnant with their 11th child, Rory.

Kennedy suffered more tragedies, including the loss of two children, but throughout it all, she remained the stalwart member of the family.

The widow never remarried, unlike fellow widow Jackie Onassis, and dedicated her life to representing the Kennedy name.

She founded the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights organization shortly after his assassination.

Nasa reveals mesmerising footage of Northern Lights from ISS amid ‘severe’ geomagnetic storm warning

A NASA astronaut has revealed a stunning timelapse of the Northern Lights taken from the ISS.

And the footage comes just ahead of another geomagnetic storm which is expected to leave spellbinding views once again.

Northern Lights have made a number of appearances this year[/caption]

A fast coronal mass ejection (CME) erupted from the Sun on Tuesday and is likely to arrive at Earth today, according to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).

As a result, aurora borealis – commonly known as Northern Lights – are expected across parts of the UK and US.

The Met Office told The Sun that the spectacle is “likely” to be visible from the UK.

“There is a chance of visible auroras over parts of the UK on Thursday night and in the early hours of Friday morning,” said Met Office spokesman Stephen Dixon.

“While the exact arrival time of the coronal mass ejection is open to some uncertainty, there are likely aurora sightings in Scotland and Northern Ireland, with a chance of some sightings in the north of England and slightly further south with long-exposure photography.

“Residual influence from the coronal mass ejection means aurora sightings remain possible on Saturday night, though this will be more confined to Scotland, where some rain and cloud could obscure viewing potential for some.”

There have been several mesmerising displays visible from both sides of the Atlantic already this year.

But flares and solar eruptions can impact radio communications, electric power grids, navigation signals, and pose risks to spacecraft and astronauts.

Last night, NOAA classified today’s geomagnetic storm as G4 (severe).

Dr Steph Yardley, from Northumbria University, said we could see displays as good as May’s Northern Lights show – but we will only know this for certain when it is about to impact Earth.

“The Sun is being particularly active again leading to a rare and severe G4 geomagnetic storm watch being issued,” he said.

“Apart from spectacular displays of the aurora, these eruptive events can cause a whole range of disruption to our technological systems and hence our everyday lives.

“Examples include, but are not limited to, blackouts of high frequency radio communications and navigation issues across wide areas caused by solar flares, ground induced currents that affect the power grids caused by geomagnetic storms, and a radiation risk for astronauts, passengers and crew in aircraft flying at high altitudes close to the poles due to energetic particles.

“We know that the Starlink satellites reported more outages occurring at the same time of the X-class flare this morning.”

Dr Steph Yardley also warned that the possible disruption could cause issues for Hurricane Milton relief efforts.

Millions across Florida have been left without power after winds of up to 120mph swept through towns leaving a trail of destruction.

“We saw a very similar situation to this in 2017 when three hurricanes hit the Caribbean region and solar flares disrupted radio communications,” he continued.

“This shows that the impact of space weather at Earth can not only be far reaching but that extreme space weather and weather events do not play well together.”

Auroras – how do they work?

Here's the official explanation from Nasa...

  • The dancing lights of the auroras provide spectacular views on the ground, but also capture the imagination of scientists who study incoming energy and particles from the sun
  • Auroras are one effect of such energetic particles.
  • These particles can speed out from the sun from giant eruptions known as coronal mass ejections or CMEs and solar flares, explosions of radiation on the sun.
  • After a trip toward Earth that can last two to three days, the solar particles and magnetic fields cause the release of particles already trapped near Earth, which in turn trigger reactions in the upper atmosphere in which oxygen and nitrogen molecules release photons of light
  • The result: the Northern and Southern lights.

Fears Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul could be cancelled at last minute with boxing legend, 58, ‘somewhat protected’

MIKE TYSON’S team could stop him from returning to the ring to fight Jake Paul – MMA legend Dan Hardy has warned.

The heavyweight icon faces YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul on November 15 in a bout widely slammed over the 30-year age gap.

Dan Hardy says Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson could still get cancelled[/caption]

The already controversial clash was further scrutinised when Tyson pulled out of the initial July 20 date after suffering an ulcer flare up in his stomach.

And former UFC title challenger Hardy does not rule out the fight facing the KO for good.

He told Bloody Elbow: “As much as I’m enjoying Jake Paul as a phenomenon in combat sports, I feel like beating up Mike Tyson would not do great things for his brand.

“I honestly think a lot of the fun poking and fat suits and stuff that we are seeing now is actually working against him a little bit because Mike Tyson is held in such high regard.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if that fight falls away and Mike is somewhat protected by the people around him because I do think that would be worth considering for them.

“There’s so many people Jake Paul can fight, he doesn’t need to be fighting Mike Tyson. If he was calling him out 10 years ago, 15 years ago, fair enough.

“This version of Mike is not the person who represents who Mike Tyson was when he was at the top of the sport.”

Despite the previous health scare, Tyson has been deemed medically fit to continue training.

But he is required to undergo additional brain and hearts tests ahead of his fight while both will undergo mandatory drug testing.

Tyson retired in 2005 following two dismal defeats but did return in for an exhibition bout in 2020 against Roy Jones Jr.

But his controversial comeback is to be professionally sanctioned with records on the line – Iron Mike’s first real fight in 15 YEARS.

Paul, 27, meanwhile has ten wins and only one loss in the boxing ring, losing a 2023 split-decision to Tommy Fury, 25.

And Hardy – joined by many other boxing fans – fears Tyson could be sent “crashing to the canvas” by his opponent 30-YEARS his junior.

He said: “I’m a big Mike Tyson fan as many combat sports people are.

“You know, time always catches up with us and Mike Tyson isn’t the fighter he was even a couple of years ago.

“Even when he fought Roy Jones Jr. I thought he looked good, but in the last couple of years, I feel like his age has really started to show through.

“Like, he’s still a dangerous man in his own mind and you would want to upset the guy, that’s for sure.

“In a boxing contest where you’re in with someone who is in their 20s, over 200lbs and spending all day every day working on his boxing.

“What none of us want to see is Mike Tyson go crashing to the canvas and Jake Paul celebrating.”
