George Baldock was found dead after his wife in England raised alarm with family ‘in shock at terrible loss’

GEORGE Baldock was heartbreakingly found dead in a swimming pool after his wife was unable to contact him, according to reports.

Officials confirmed on Wednesday night that Baldock, 31, had tragically passed away at his home in Greece.

The former Sheffield United star has received a flurry of tributes[/caption]

Baldock, who played for Greek club Panathinaikos, was reportedly found in the communal pool of his home in the suburbs of Athens.

According to Greek media, Baldock’s wife – who lives in England – was trying to contact the former Sheffield United star and began to worry.

After failing to track Baldock down, she then informed the owner of the house in Glyfada, Athens, to check the property.

Sadly Baldock was later pronounced dead by a response unit who are said to believe he had been in the water for a number of hours.

Baldock’s family later released a statement following the devastating news.

It read: “We can confirm that George has sadly passed away. As a family we are in shock at this terrible loss. We ask please that the media respect our privacy at this time.”

While club Panathinaikos added: “We are shocked, we are shocked by the loss of our George.

“The family of Panathinaikos mourns his untimely death. We stand with the family and loved ones of George Baldock.”

Dominating Mbappe, Premier League Iron Man, promotion hero: A tribute to George Baldock

By Kostas Lianos, Digital Sports Reporter

IT was back in 2019 when Greece legend Vasilis Torosidis – the heir to Euro 2004 hero Giourkas Seitaridis – retired from international duty after 101 caps.

A giant void was left behind at right-back, many talented players tried to step up – and none of them could fill those big boots.

But, soon enough, I started to hear whispers about a Premier League ace with Greek heritage who’s a starter week-in and week-out…

That was none other than George Baldock, born in Buckingham on March 9, 1993, to English parents but qualified for Greece through his grandmother.

And what a season he was having. The right-back starred for Sheffield United as they surprised the Prem in the 2019-20 campaign – their first in 12 years – by finishing in the top half of the table.

Baldock was among their standout players as he registered a staggering 3,420 minutes played – the joint highest along with the likes of Declan Rice and Virgil van Dijk.

The defender was keen to make the big step to the international stage with his grandmother’s homeland – and it didn’t take long until he shook hands with the Greek football federation (EPO) chiefs.

However, a long and arduous paperwork slog stood in the way – with the then Sheffield United star claiming Covid-19 and Brexit slowed things down.

Greece finally got the right-back they were begging for for years as Baldock made his debut on June 2, 2022 in a Nations League clash at Northern Ireland as a late substitute.

It didn’t take long until the English-born ace owned the right flank at the back and impressive performances followed.

Perhaps none compare to the Euro 2024 qualifier against France in June 2023 when Baldock did the unthinkable and kept Kylian Mbappe quiet for 104 MINUTES, despite being injured and playing through “unimaginable” pain.

I still remember speaking to then-Greece manager Gus Poyet about his player’s stunning performance, and I will never forget the big smile the Chelsea legend had on his face.

Poyet reminded me of a proud father as he took me through the injury hell the full-back endured before squaring up against perhaps the world’s best player for his country.

A beaming Poyet told me: “Against the Republic of Ireland [three days beforehand] – and now that it is finished I can say it – after 20 minutes he had a very bad twist in his ankle, very bad. He was very close to come out. I asked him, ‘Can you hold until half-time?’

“At half-time his ankle was very, very swollen. He asked for a strapping and he asked me for five minutes. Give me five minutes and we’ll let you know. And he had an unbelievable second half running up and down and being outstanding.

“You don’t imagine the ankle after the game. You don’t imagine the ankle the day after, after the flight to France. Black and blue – swollen. And a day-and-a-half later you need to play against Mbappe.

“Ninety per cent of people will think, no chance. And I keep talking to him, individually. And he keeps saying to me, ‘Coach I’m gonna be there no worries’.

“And he didn’t play 20 minutes, he didn’t play 60 minutes, he played 104 minutes because the referee gave 14 minutes of injury time against Mbappe.”

It’s easy to understand how loyal Baldock was to every team he ever played for during his 15-year career, just by looking at his stats.

The Greek ace started his career at MK Dons in 2009 where he amassed a staggering 125 appearances throughout an eight-year stint that also saw him playing on loan for Northampton Town, Tamworth, IBV and Oxford United.

The defender joined Sheffield United in 2017 and registered a whopping 219 appearances in seven years that also saw him helping his team achieve two Premier League promotions.

Baldock’s work ethic and commitment was no different in Greece as he proudly stated two years ago: “To play for the national side is a great honour and a lot of pride involved for me and my family.

“Representing my country through my late grandmother, it’s a very proud moment for me and my family. I love the country and I will fight for every success”

Baldock never played for England at any level, but he always competed like a lion and he proved it on Sunday in his last ever match when he started for Panathinaikos, whom he joined in the summer, against eternal rivals Olympiacos in perhaps the most intense derby in Europe.

He served his team with honour as he helped them pick up a valuable point in a goalless draw against their in-form foes, who had just played their best game of the season with a 3-0 win over Braga in the Europa League a few days earlier.

He only managed 12 caps for Greece before his sudden and tragic death at the age of 31 on Wednesday in Athens.

But his fighting spirit and charisma at right-back with the white and blue, as well as his remarkable run in the Premier League and the Championship, show that he is leaving a legacy behind for many Greek and English fans to look up to.

Former side Sheffield United also paid tribute to Baldock in a statement that read: “Sheffield United Football Club is shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former player, George Baldock.

“The defender left the club in the summer after seven years at Bramall Lane and was extremely popular with supporters, staff and team-mates who pulled on a red and white shirt alongside him.

“The sincere condolences of everyone associated with Sheffield United are extended to George’s family and friends.”

Police are now investigating his death and were pictured outside his home later in the evening.

Baldock was born in the UK, but represented the Greek national side thanks to Greek roots through his grandmother.

England are set to take on Greece in the Nations League at Wembley this evening with the Greek side expected to wear black armbands in his honour.

Baldock graduated from MK Dons’ youth set-up while he also played for Oxford United, Tamworth and Northampton Town before making his name with Sheffield United.

He starred for the Blades between 2017 and 2024, making more than 219 appearances and earning the nickname Furious George due to his aggressive all-action style.

Manchester United star Harry Maguire – who graduated through the Blades’ youth team before leaving in 2014 – paid tribute by posting a picture of Baldock on his Instagram page with a broken heart emoji.

Baldock joined Panathinaikos from the Yorkshire club this summer.

He had made four appearances for them this season, including three in the league.

His most recent appearance came against Olympiacos on October 6.

Vintage Ford Bronco making a comeback with colorful design & steel wheels loved in 1970s as drivers brace for price tag

THE vintage Ford Bronco is set to make a comeback with a colorful new design an retro steel wheels – but drivers are braced for a massive price tag.

Ford is offering a redesigned version of the iconic model, inspired by its heyday look.

The Free Wheeling design features a ’70s-style sunset paint job[/caption]

The vibrant color scheme is mirrored inside[/caption]

The Ford Bronco made its debut in 1965 and was one of the most popular SUVs on the market before it was discontinued in 1996.

The model itself was brought back in 2021 after almost a quarter of a century and has gained a bit of a cult following.

Now though, the brand is resurrecting the Free Wheeling styling package, which it offered on the Bronco, as well as models like the F-150, back in the ’70s and ’80s.

It will now be available on the base-level Bronco Big Bend from the 2025 model year.

The most striking element of the new trim is the sunset-colored decals emblazoned on the doors.

How to spot add-on fees at the dealership

The Federal Trade Commission is cracking down on dealerships that charge buyers unfairly.

However, as many transactions aren’t spotted due to electronically signed documents, many added-on fees aren’t spotted. Here’s how the agency says you can spot them.

  1. Demand a physical copy of the sales contract or invoice, and read it carefully. Customers aren’t required to pay for add-ons they don’t want, like nitrogen-filled tires, paint protectant, wheel and tire insurance, etc.
  2. Be sure you understand the total cost, not just the monthly. Make sure the total cost is in writing so you can get an idea of how other fees play into the monthly fee. If it’s different from what you originally agreed on, the dealer may be adding fees.
  3. Explore your options for financing. First, check with your bank, as they can give better rates on auto loans depending on your credit. Bring a hard copy of your preapproval notice to entice the dealer to meet or beat those terms.
  4. If you’ve been charged illegally, the FTC encourages you to report it.

Source: FTC

Stripes of deep red and amber give way to vibrant yellow, lending the design a real retro vibe.

At the front, the model name is stamped on the grille in large red letters, while body-matched handles blend seamlessly into the paintwork.

The standard trim also comes with a real vintage favourite – a set of 17″ steel wheels that were beloved on the original model.

However, these are traded out for machined alloys when you opt for the Free Wheeling version of the off-roading Sasquatch spec.

Inside, the black leather seats also boast a section of the sunset pattern matched to red accents on the dash and grab handles.

One headline-grabbing aspect of the new setup is the ability to choose from a trio of different roof styles.

Owners can go for the usual soft-top, a removable hard-top in similarly bright color or a painted Shadow Black fixed version.

The 2025 Bronco will be available to order from January.

Pricing is not confirmed for the Free Wheeling trim but the Big Bend is expected to clock in at around $42,000.

Steve Gilmore, Ford Vehicle Personalization chief designer, said: “Bronco has always been about fun and capability since day one and Free Wheeling’s looks kick that up a notch with its sunset-inspired beach vibes.

“We’ve modernized the new Bronco Free Wheeling in line with today’s fashion and graphic trends, including seats that mimic the color palette of the exterior stripes and unique pops of color that come together in an optimistic way.”

A frantic search for Suzanne, 51, was launched, and Brad was arrested on violence charges on Wednesday.

Mom-of-four Suzanne was supposed to pick up her child from school on Monday – but never showed up.

Court documents, seen by ABC affiliate KSAT-TV, revealed that the child was quizzed at school the following day.

The girl told police that Suzanne had a bruise on her elbow, according to the court papers.

She also claimed that her parents had been fighting and alleged her mom had her cell phone snatched.

Texas cops have mapped out a timeline as they continue to probe Suzanne’s disappearance.

Suzanne, a real estate agent, and Brad reportedly attended a party at The Argyle Club on Sunday evening before heading home.

She was last seen wearing a long black dress and paired the outfit with heels.

Neighbors claimed they heard screams as an argument reportedly unfolded at the family’s property.

One local claimed he saw Suzanne trying to get away from her husband.

And he alleged Brad was trying to stop his wife from leaving the home.

The neighbor claimed that he heard at least two screams from a woodland area.

Court papers then claimed that the neighbor saw Brad leave the home in his black GMC pickup truck.

4:02 am – Brad Simpson is booked into Kendall County Sheriff’s Office on charges of assault causing bodily injury-family violence and unlawful restraint

Cops have released pictures of the car with a Texas license plate.

Police are appealing for information about the vehicle’s location and whether it was seen in a suspicious location.

“The truck is not missing,” Fidel Villegas, the Olmos Park police chief, said.

Brad was arrested on Wednesday and faces assault and unlawful restraint charges, according to police.

Cops have not named him a suspect in connection with Suzanne’s disappearance but have warned he is a person of interest.

Police said Brad had been uncooperative before he faced the charges.

Investigators have been combing a woodland and discovered two articles of interest, according to the San Antonio-Express News.

Dogs, drones, and volunteers were used to scour the scene.

Police have not revealed what evidence they may have uncovered.

Cops warned on Wednesday the search would last for another 24 hours.

Friends have admitted they are struggling to stay hopeful.

“We’re worried. We don’t know where she is,” Suzanne’s pal Camille Mandigo told KSAT.

Abused daughter of ‘Brazil’s Fritzl’ made dash for freedom by DRUGGING monster dad after baby survived botched abortion

THE abused daughter of ‘Brazil’s Josepf Fritzl’ made her dash for freedom after drugging her monster dad.

The brave girl alerted police to the two-decade nightmare the family faced after she slipped him sleeping pills.

The Brazilian has been compared to Austrian criminal Josepf Fritzl[/caption]

Police then conducted a month-long investigation of the isolated home in the state of Minas Gerais.

They now allege the escapee, her six siblings, mother, and even grandmother all were allegedly kept in solitary confinement and sexually abused over decades.

The 52-year-old father was said to be so brutal that he has been compared to infamous Austrian incestuous abuser Josepf Fritzl.

He has now been charged with crimes of false imprisonment, rape of a vulnerable person, psychological violence, abortion and concealment of a corpse.

One of the daughters survived an abortion while she was a six-month-old fetus after being rescued by a midwife.

But police did uncover three buried fetuses in the garden, with one nearly full-term at eight months old.

The man’s wife had endured the horror since she was just 17 and faced the abuse for 23 years.

She had been forced to undergo three abortions after being forced to take medication.

The man’s children, which were still alive, were aged three to 22.

The man reportedly drilled holes in the walls to spy on his daughters as they dressed and bathed.

Since their rescue and the man’s arrest, his family have been relocated to a different state for their protection.

Police spokesperson Herika Ribeiro Sena said the wife, now safe, was only ever allowed to leave the house to receive benefits, often under the suspect’s watchful eye.

Sena said: “None of the neighbours knew her, not even relatives had access to her.”

Josef Fritzl's twisted timeline

Josef Fritzl has spent the last 15 years behind bars after he confessed to raping and imprisoning his daughter over a horrific 24-year period.

1977: Fritzl’s daughter Elisabeth claims she was abused for the first time as an 11-year-old.

August 28, 1984: Fritzl asks Elisabeth to help him install a door in his cellar before drugging her with an ether-soaked towel.

The daughter is tied up and chained to a bed for the next 24-years.

August 29, 1984: Fritzl and his wife Rosemarie report their daughter missing.

1988-1990: The first children are born after Fritzl continuously rapes Elisabeth – Kerstin first followed by Stefan.

May 19, 1993: Nine-month-old baby named Lisa found on the families doorstep with a ‘letter from Elisabeth’ – Rosemarie raises Lisa with Fritzl.

December 15, 1994: Monika is also found outside by the parents and once again looked after.

1996: Elisabeth gives birth to twins Alexander and Michael but Michael dies at birth due to breathing issues and is tossed in an incinerator.

1997: Alexander appears outside the house just like Lisa and Monika and is taken in.

December 2002: The final child is born in the cellar as Felix is kept trapped in the hellhole with his two other siblings.

April 19, 2008: Kerstin, 19, becomes seriously ill and needs medical help so is taken by Fritzl to the hospital in Amstetten.

April 19-26, 2008: Elisabeth is allowed to leave the cellar with her two children after police ask to contact Kerstin’s mother.

April 26, 2008: Police arrest Fritzl, who is with Elisabeth near the hospital.

April 27, 2008: Cops explore underground cellar as all the siblings meet for the first time.

April 28, 2008: Fritzl confesses to his horrific crimes.

2009: Fritzl sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to rape, false imprisonment, manslaughter by negligence and incest.

March 2024: The perverted pensioner becomes eligible for parole after 15-years behind bars.

April 30, 2024: Fritzl is moved from a high security prison to a normal one.

Desperate Florida homeowner straps his entire HOUSE down ahead of deadly Hurricane Milton – and people are impressed

A DESPERATE man strapped his entire home to the ground as Hurricane Milton hurtled towards Florida.

Mohammed Nijem anchored down his one-storey house in Tampa with giant yellow straps in a frantic bid to stop it being blown or washed away.

A now-viral image shows six massive straps pinned in his front lawn and stretched over the top of his property.

It was shared by his local news outlet Spectrum Bay News 9 with the caption: “Viewer Mohammed Nijem is getting prepared for Hurricane Milton.”

Social media users were left fascinated by Monhammed’s extreme precaution – with some dubbing him a “legend”.

One user wrote: “I actually respect the effort. I hope it is effective.”

Another added: “Bro secured his house like a piano when moving. Absolute legend.”

As Milton barrelled into Florida, it brought its deadly storm surge to much of Florida’s Gulf Coast, including densely populated areas such as Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota and Fort Myers.

Milton plowed into the state on Wednesday as a Category 3 storm,  bringing misery to a coast still ravaged by Helene.

It pounded cities with winds of more than 100mph and triggered a barrage of tornadoes.

But the hurricane – seemingly less destructive than feared – has now been downgraded to Category 1.

Officials had issued dire warnings to flee or face grim odds of survival as the hurricane swept towards Florida.

Cathie Perkins, emergency management director in Pinellas County, which sits on the peninsula that forms Tampa Bay, said on Wednesday: “This is it folks.

“Those of you who were punched during Hurricane Helene, this is going to be a knockout.

“You need to get out, and you need to get out now.”

But by late afternoon, some officials warned the time had passed for such efforts, suggesting that people who stayed behind hunker down instead.

Some counties were even forced to suspend emergency services by the evening.

Flash flooding caused chaos in the Tampa Bay area, with up to 16 inches of rainfall so far.

The entire roof of the Tropicana Field’s stadium was ripped off as it suffered the wrath of the hurricane.

Shocking footage shows the roof being torn apart by ferocious winds.

The stadium – home to the Tampa Bay Rays – was being used as a base for thousands of emergency workers who set up camp there ahead of the hurricane.

More than three million homes and businesses have been left without power.

And at least 125 homes have been destroyed after Tampa Mayor Jane Castor’s grim warning houses would be turned into “coffins”.

Two deaths have been confirmed by local officials in St Lucie County, with multiple others rushed to hospital after the hurricane spawned at least 19 powerful tornadoes.

Milton has sparked 126 tornado warnings in Florida – the most ever in a single day.

Millions of terrified residents have fled the state after President Joe Biden warned Milton would be “one of the most destructive hurricanes of the century”.

But after days of warnings of apocalyptic-style devastation, the hurricane appears to be weaker than feared after twice making Category 5.

The storm slammed into a region still reeling two weeks after Hurricane Helene flooded streets and homes in western Florida and left at least 230 people dead across the South.

In many places along the coast, municipalities raced to collect and dispose of debris before Milton’s winds and storm surge could toss it around and compound any damage.

Prisoner ‘BEHEADS’ another inmate at jail in France using broken piece of porcelain in savage attack

A PRISONER has reportedly beheaded another inmate using a broken piece of porcelain bowl after a row.

French TV report the inmate was beheaded using the homemade shiv early on Thursday.

Other outlets report the victim had his throat deeply slit and had been “practically decapitated”.

Both prisoners had been staying in the prison’s arrivals wing for several weeks when the shocking killing happened.

Prison sources told Le Parisien: “It had been several days that they had not gotten along – he could no longer stand [him].”

The attacker was a homeless man who was jailed for six months for possession and transportation of narcotics.

He was taken to a police station following the killing.

The victim was in prison on remand after being accused of drugs charges.

The French Minister of Justice Didier Migaud said: “I confirm to you that a crime was committed, I cannot comment further but I confirm it.”

The killing is the latest crisis in France’s prisons, coming after drug kingpin ‘The Fly’ escaped in May.

Mohamed Amra was being moved in a convoy when a black car smashed into the prison van and masked gunmen shot down the guards.

The “highly dangerous” dealer, convicted of attempted murder, is now the subject of a nationwide manhunt.

From sarcasm to big dinners – the 5 easy-to-miss signs your loved one is depressed and how to help them

IF a loved one is feeling depressed, you might be tipped off if they dip out of activities they usually enjoy or suddenly seem to be down and anxious.

Indeed, sadness, tearfulness and losing interest in hobbies are typical signs of the condition most people can recognise.

a woman sitting on the floor with a box of food in her hand
An increased appetite is one surprising way depression can manifest itself

But depression affects everyone differently and it can actually manifest in ways you might not expect.

Some surprising cues from your loved one may indicate that they’re going though a hard time with their mental health and could use some support.

While some people believe that depression is trivial and something you can get over if you set your mind to it, it is actually a serious condition that affects around one in 10 people over the course of their lives.

It impacts people of all genders and ages – including children – and nobody will experience it in exactly the same way.

If left untreated without either therapy or medication, depression can spiral out of control.

But with the right support, most people make a full recovery, according to the NHS.

Speaking to The Sun, Dr Rina Bajaj, counselling psychologist and author of ‘The Magic in Me’, shares some less obvious symptoms which might help you spot the condition in a loved one.

1. Heightened productivity

While depression is commonly associated with decreased motivation and productivity, some people may experience the opposite effect.

“They may throw themselves into work, projects, or other activities as a way to distract themselves from their underlying emotional pain,” Dr Rina explained.

“This excessive focus on achievement can be a way to escape negative thoughts and emotions temporarily.”

It’s important to pay attention to whether this productivity is driven by genuine fulfilment or if it seems to be a way to avoid addressing underlying issues.

“Encourage your loved one to maintain a healthy work-life balance and seek support if needed,” she explained.

2. Inappropriate humour

Many of us use humour as a defence mechanism to cope with stressful or difficult situations.

However, engage in “excessive” joking, sarcasm is often a way people suffering with depression deflect from their true feelings, the expert said.

It can be challenging to differentiate between genuine humour and a cry for help, so it’s important to observe patterns and changes in their behaviour.

The psychologist added: “If you suspect someone may be using humour to mask their depression, gently express your concern and offer a safe space for them to open up.”

3. Unusual sensitivity to criticism

While people with depression are more likely to self-depreciate they are also more sensitive to criticism from others.

They might also react strongly to what they believe to be criticism – even if it is constructive or well-intentioned.

“This sensitivity can stem from heightened self-doubt and a negative perception of themselves,” Dr Rina said.

“It’s important to be mindful of how you provide feedback and offer support and understanding when they express feeling hurt by criticism,” she advised.

4. Changes in appetite

Your loved one’s dinner table habits can also be a marker of whether they’re struggling with depression.

Some people may lose their appetite when they’re going through a hard time and start to lose weight.

But others may start eating more than usual, according to mental health charity Mind.

Zishan Khan, a psychiatrist with Mindpath Health, tells Everyday Health: “For many, changes in appetite can be one of the earlier signs of being depressed or even a warning sign of an upcoming depressive episode.”

5. Physical aches and pains

For some, depression may manifest itself in a physical way.

A person struggling with their mental health may start noticing physical aches and pains that don’t seem to have an obvious cause.

According to Madhukar Trivedi, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwest Medical School, physical symptoms are common in depression.

Depression... the signs to look for and what to do

Depression can manifest in many ways.

We all feel a bit low from time to time.

Tips on how to help a loved one

It’s sometimes hard to know how to help someone you love who is suffering with depression – especially if you’ve not experienced it yourself.

If you believe someone you know and love is experiencing low mood try speaking to them about it, suggests Dr Rina.

“It’s important to approach the conversation with sensitivity and empathy,” she said.

Here are Dr Rina’s tips on how to best support someone suffering:

1. Create a safe space

It’s important to make sure you validate the feelings and experiences of your loved one, so that they feel understood and not alone.

“Encourage open dialogue and let them know you are there to listen without judgment or criticism,” Dr Rina said.

2. Educate yourself

You can read up about depression on to better understand what your loved one may be going through.

“This can help you provide informed support and reduce stigma,” she explained.

Mental health charity Mind have some good educational resources on depression on their website.

3. Encourage professional help

Try and persuade them to seek professional help from a mental health provider, if they feel up for it, the expert said.

To make things easier for your loved one, offer assistance in finding resources, making appointments, or accompanying them to therapy sessions if needed.

4. Support healthy habits

Encourage your loved one to engage in activities they enjoy, maintain a balanced diet, get regular exercise, and practice self-care.

You can even try offering to participate in these activities together to give them more support.

5. Stay connected

Make sure you keep in touch regularly, even if it’s just through
simple check-ins.

“Offer your presence and support, and remind them that
they are not alone,” Dr Rina added.

The NHS has created a mood assessment tool to reveal if you have signs of anxiety or depression.

It asks a broad set of 18 questions about your feelings in the past two weeks with multiple choice answers.

The Sun previously launched the You’re Not Alone campaign in September 2018, on World Suicide Day.

It helps to remind anyone facing a tough time, grappling with mental illness or feeling like there’s nowhere left to turn, that there is hope.
