‘Keen little farmer’, 4, crushed to death by 60kg cast iron garden roller after enjoying ice cream with family

A TRAGIC four-year-old boy was crushed to death by a 60kg garden roller while on his family’s farm, an inquest heard.

Maldwyn Evans – known as “Gwern” – had been enjoying ice creams with his sister when he went to play in the garden.

An inquest heard the youngster likely pushed the cast iron antique roller from behind but was then “carried forward”.

Senior Coroner Peter Brunton added: “He likely held on to the roller to try and stop it but lost control.

“As it rolled down a slope and hit the patio, the handle likely threw Gwern over and he hit the concrete surface.”

The court heard Gwern was discovered by his horrified parents in the garden in Tregaron, near Ceredigion in Wales.

Gwern suffered massive head injuries but tragically couldn’t be saved and was declared dead on June 20.

Ceredigion Coroner Mr Brunton concluded his death was an accident.

The boy’s devastated family paid tribute to Gwern, which means muddy or swampy.

They said: “As a family, we are incredibly distraught by our tragic loss, and he will be greatly missed by us and the entire community.

“He was a loving son and a caring brother, who touched the hearts of so many.

“He lived his short life to the fullest and will be remembered for his captivating personality.

“He was an extremely keen little farmer who had knowledge and ability beyond his years.”

While Joyce George, head of Ysgol Pontrhydfendigaid where Gwern was a pupil, said: “We are extremely saddened to hear this tragic news.

“We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family at this very sad time.

“We will be providing help and support to both our pupils and staff during this difficult time.”

You can save yourself thousands on heating this winter with my 3 tips – a £2 Temu buy banishes draughts

THREE simple steps can make your house feel warm and cosy this winter.

One man shared his top tips for heating your home without breaking the bank.

In his viral video, TikTok user Noah Da Boa (@noahxboa) broke down his go-to advice for reducing your energy bills in the cold weather.

“This winter, to avoid paying thousands on heating, follow these three steps,” he told his audience.

For his first hack, Noah recommended pushing your furniture away from your radiators.

He also suggested removing any clothes you have drying on your radiators as they tend to absorb the heat.

Removing obstructions can help the heat to circulate freely around the room.

Noah also told his followers to invest in a draught excluder for their doors.

You can pick up a £1.89 door bottom sealing strip from Temu.

Data cited by the Carbon Community shows that 25% of heat in homes in lost through draughts.

Draughts can occur in areas other than below your doors.

To thoroughly check your home, examine any potential cracks and the areas around your windows.

As well as preventing draughts, the TikToker also revealed a way to maximise the heat from your radiators.

He suggested adding reflective panels behind your radiators to “keep the heat trapped inside.”

A roll of aluminium radiator insulation film is available for £3.48 from Temu.

According to Power To Switch, 35% of the heat in your home escapes through the walls.

For his final tip, Noah revealed the best way to stay warm on a budget.

5 Money-saving tips for autumn/winter

1. Draught-proof your home

It takes time and money to heat up your home, so it’s important that you do as much as you can to keep in the warmth. Close your doors and windows, and fill any gaps with a draught excluder.

2. Dial down your thermostat

According to Energy UK, turning down your thermostat by just one degree Celsius could cut your heating bill by up to 10%, and save you around £85 per year. Plus, if you don’t have a thermostat, installing one could save up to £70 per year!

3. Move furniture around

Make sure not big, bulky furniture like sofas are blocking radiators.

4. Wash clothes on a lower temp and add an extra spin

Unless it’s bedding, towels or really dirty items, dial down the temperature to 20 or 30 degrees, and do a double spin to remove excess water.

5. Heat the person not the home

There’s not point heating up a room that no one is sitting in, so be mindful about which radiators are on.

“Using an electric blanket, it only uses 1p of energy per hour and keeps you so warm,” he explained.

The experts at Lakeland revealed that using an electric blanket is more economically savvy then turning on your central heating.

While most electric blankets now come with an auto shut-off function, manufacturers recommend using with caution.

If you’re planning on using your electric blanket during the night, ensure it is set to a low temperature.

You should also avoid using it alongside a heated mattress protector.

Married At First Sight Polly reveals surprising thing husband Adam BANNED her from doing and he’d ‘storm out’ if she did

MARRIED At First Sight’s Polly Sellman has let rip and opened up about a huge blow in their relationship — which caused husband Adam Nightingale to make a swift exit.

MAFS star Polly was speaking to fans on Instagram about regrets during a live Q&A when the subject got onto the topic of bodily functions.

Referring to breaking wind in front of him, she said: “Yeah it is normal, but I wasn’t allowed to fart because he said it was disgusting and he’d leave.”

The pair have been tirelessly trying to work through their differences on the show.

Adam has made it clear that Polly is not his usual petite brunette ‘type’ and questioned whether he is sexually attracted to her, despite having consummated the wedding night.

The Megan-Fox appreciator previously told the experts in front of the other couples: “When I look into Polly’s eyes, I don’t think ‘I really want to kiss you!'”

Careers advisor Polly has caused her own separate drama and was accused of trying to sabotage another couple during a recent dinner party.

She took Charlie Curtis to one side and accused her of being a “bully” towards her wife Eve Reid.

In a statement to viewers, she wrote on social media: “Hey guys… Please remember to keep an open mind with things on TV.

“We saw a lot of Eve most days and nights as she was always with one of us, and Charlie hardly ever while we were in the apartments.

“Naturally being closer with one party you do believe what someone’s saying to you about their partner if they’re nowhere to be seen and you haven’t spoke to them about anything.

“It’s really upsetting to see how blindsided we all were with this situation but please know I (and the other girls) did apologise profusely to Charlie and we are all good and speak daily.”

Polly further shocked viewers by demanding her co-stars shut up during a dinner party and she left the room in tears.

The Kent native who has been living in Brisbane, Australia, jetted back to the UK to have a shot at marriage.

Before MAFS Polly had been single for seven months and her longest relationship was six years, including a bunch of “s**t relationships”.

They will be playing shows in Belfast, Dublin, Cork, Huddersfield, Glasgow London and Cardiff[/caption]

When do Stereophonics tickets go on sale?

The general sale for Stereophonics tickets will begin on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 9am BST.

However, there were a couple of presales offering earlier access to tickets:

  • Album presale: Fans who had preordered the band’s upcoming studio album by 2pm on October 8, 2024, could gain access to a presale starting at 9am on October 9, 2024
  • Venue-specific presales: Some venues are offering their own presales — for example, Principality Stadium account holders could access a presale at 9am on October 9, 2024

Maximising your chances

  • Prepare in advance: Create accounts on ticket selling platforms including Ticketmaster and See Tickets before the sale date
  • Use multiple devices: Have your computer, phone and tablet ready to join the queue simultaneously
  • Join a ticket queue early: Queue systems often open before the official sale time, so it’s a good idea to join 10-15 minutes early
  • Have your payment information ready: Save time by having your credit card details at hand
  • Be flexible with dates: If you can’t get tickets for your preferred date, be open to attending on a different day
  • Consider hospitality tickets: These are often easier to secure due to higher prices and lower demand
  • Team up: Coordinate with friends or family to try for tickets on multiple devices simultaneously

Mistakes to avoid

  • Relying on a single device or browser: This limits your chances in the queue
  • Refreshing the page excessively: This can kick you out of the queue in some systems
  • Opening multiple tabs: Accessing the sale from multiple tabs can also lead to you losing your place in the queue
  • Being unprepared with payment information: Tickets often have a time limit in your basket
  • Falling for scams: Only purchase from official sources like Ticketmaster, See Tickets, or the band’s official website
  • Assuming your old account is active: If you already have an account, double check it is still working, billing info is accurate and saved, and that you can remember the password

Rizzle Kicks’ Jordan Stephens reveals shock drug overdose as he admits cocaine addiction

RIZZLE Kicks star Jordan Stephens reveals he once had a drug overdose as he opens up about his past cocaine addiction.

The Skip to the Good Bit singer, 32, said he became hooked on drugs as a” coping mechanism” during the height of his career.

Jordan joined Busted star Matt Willis on his podcast On The Mend, as he spoke about using cocaine to help ease social anxiety.

The pop star also revealed the time he had overdosed himself “every day for 18 months” while taking non prescribed doses of modafinil – which are taken to boost cognitive performance.

Matt asked him: “Okay, so you’re getting a psych exam for a TV show, and they were like, well, you need to look at this. Yeah. You know. And what was that like to hear?”

Jordan shared: “Well, they asked me. I guess they did like a full.

“They have to run like a full checkup. Yeah. And then in the checkup, they’re like, do you have any previous diagnoses? And I was like, oh, well, when I was 15 they said I had ADHD and they were like, oh, what have you done about that? And I was like, well, nothing.

“But I do self-medicate.And they were like.

“And they were like with what? And I was like, oh, this thing I bought off the internet. They were like, let’s take you to a psychiatrist, maybe.”

Matt quizzed the star and asked: “And what was that thing you were self-medicating with?”

Jordan explained: “Oh, it’s a thing called modafinil. It’s a funny story, which I do include in the book.

“Basically, I went to this guy and he sat me down and we spoke for a bit, and he was like, okay, I mean, you have ADHD, but what do you do about it?

“And I went, well, my mate, my hacker friend told me about these drugs called modafinil.

“And he went, oh, modafinil is actually a recognised ADHD drug, medication for it. And he went, how much do you take?

“And I went sometimes two pills a day, but like it varies. And he went, okay, how strong are the pills? And I went 200mg each. And I remember he just went quiet. And he was like 400mg a day? And I went sometimes.

“And he went, okay, we’re going to get you on this thing.

“And then he writes the prescription. And I remember so vividly he gave me the prescription and I looked at and it said 16mg, and I was like 16mg?

“And then I remember reading the pamphlet and it said like, here’s how you know you’ve had an overdose.”

Jordan was then stunned to realise that he had been experiencing side effects, common with an overdose.

He went on: “And it was like dry tongue, profuse sweating.

“And it was just like all the things that I thought meant the mode of modafinil was kicking in, was working.

“So by those metrics, I’d basically been overdosing on every day for like 18 month”

Jordan also spoke candidly about his drug addition and

He said: “My cocaine use became a problem when I started doing it at home.

“You know, initially it was a coping mechanism for dealing with how intense the places I was being asked to go to were.

“Again, as you would know it was surreal.”

He admitted he didn’t feel that pressure when he took drugs and he stopped “overthinking” different scenarios when in social situations.

“I used to have this compulsive thought when I would be out at an event where, because it was so quick from me and Harley playing at our mates, like, you know, prom or whatever,” he continued.

“Suddenly we’re like, you know, all over Radio One, and then we’re getting invited to events with people that I’d literally just watched on telly with, like my… you know what I mean?

“You’ve got like Jimmy Carr’s knocking about or like, I’ll be playing FIFA and then like, Daniel Sturridge is just like stood in the event looking at me going like, oh, I love your new song. What is happening?

So I’m just like, I can’t cope with it. And it was exciting.

“But I had this compulsive thought where if I said bye to someone… I’m just remembering this now… I would obsess over like whether or not I said bye in the right way to myself.

So it’d be like if I shook their hand, I’d be like, was I supposed to shake their hand? Or like give, you know, the kind of like, more like chill version of, cupping the hand and then a slap on the back or a hug, or if I said, why did I say, see you soon? And I would go go go go go go.”

Rizzle Kicks stars Jordan Stephens and Harley Alexander-Sule shot to fame in the late noughties after their debut album Stereo Typical.

But in 2015 the pop stars went their ways after they released their last song, a cover of Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince.

Following this, both members pursued acting careers and solo music ventures.

Between 2011 and 2013, the band was a huge success with hits like Down With the Trumpets and Mama Do The Hump.

They had several chart-topping songs, including a collaboration with Olly Murs‘ Heart Skips a Beat, which reached number one.
