Strictly’s Toyah Willcox breaks her silence after Chris McCausland ‘swipe’ as she sets the record straight on ‘feud’

TOYAH Willcox tonight broke her silence after she appeared to take a “swipe” at Chris McCausland.

It all started last night when the singer, 66, appeared on It Takes Two alongside her pro partner Neil Jones after getting the boot on Sunday night’s show.

The singer was eliminated from the show on Sunday night[/caption]

Toyah was eliminated after being in the dance off against Paul Merson,.

However it was her comment about comedian Chris that got fans REALLY talking.

It came about when host Fleur East asked her: “You are such a tightknit group as well this year, do you have any advice or tips for the other celebs?”

Toyah laughed and started clapping, before pointing at the camera and shouting: “If you don’t want to do a dance off, get rid of Chris!”

Fleur then looked off camera and grimaced while Toyah then clarified: “You are all going to have to face a dance off.”

Attempting to move the conversation on, Neil then quipped: “I think she has chosen her winner already.”

But her comment infuriated fans who took to social media to vent.

However, Toyah is now keen to set the record straight, and posted her own message on Instagram.

Sharing a picture of Chris, the singer wrote: “Just to clarify and to clear up any confusion that’s flying around.

“My good friend @chrismccausland, is my favourite to win this year, I think he is inspiring and brilliant, he has worked so hard and I wish him nothing but love! Toyah x

However, Toyah’s It Take Two interview wasn’t all bad as her pro-partner Neil was full of praise for her.

Asked if he had some parting words for the singer now their dancing days together were over, he said: ” See you soon, you are not getting rid of me. You have got me for life now.

He continued: “Toyah has been brilliant. We have laughed so much, we have had so much fun and we have had some really great conversations as well.”

Strictly continues on Saturday night at 6.20pm on BBC One.

Real Madrid release statement as Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta retires leaving fans stunned after career-long rivalry

REAL MADRID have released a club statement paying tribute to Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta.

The former midfielder, 40, broke down in tears as he confirmed his emotional retirement on Monday.

Iniesta is widely regarded as one of Barcelona‘s greatest ever players, appearing 674 times for his boyhood team before leaving in 2018.

Following his Barca exit, he spent five years with Japanese side Vissel Kobe.

When his game time began to dwindle in Japan, Iniesta spent one final season with UAE side Emirates before hanging up his boots.

The former Spain star was part of an all-conquering Barcelona side in his pomp – winning nine LaLiga titles, four Champions Leagues, six Copa del Reys and three Club World Cups.

Despite his incredible contribution to their biggest rivals, Real Madrid took the unusual move to pay tribute to him in a somewhat formal club statement.

It read: “Following Andres Iniesta’s announcement that he will retire from professional football, Real Madrid CF, its president and its Board of Directors wish to express their recognition, admiration and affection for one of the great legends of Spanish and world football.

“Andres Iniesta has contributed to the greatness of the sport with his football and his values, beyond the numerous titles he has won during his career.

“His iconic goal in the final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa will remain forever in the memory of all Spanish fans.

“Real Madrid wishes him and his entire family the best of luck in this new stage of his life.”

The statement points to Iniesta’s dramatic winner against Germany in the 2010 World Cup final.

In total he played 131 times for his country, winning two European Championships in addition to the World Cup.

While the bulk of Iniesta’s success came in Europe, he also won a J.League title, Emperor’s Cup and Japanese Super Cup with Vissel Kobe.

In an incredible retirement video, Iniesta received praise from his former coaches including Pep Guardiola, Louis van Gaal and Luis Enrique.

Guardiola even revealed that during his early days at Barcelona, Iniesta gave him the “boost of energy to keep going” and that he will “always be grateful” to the midfielder.

Coca Cola confirms ‘favourite ever’ drink is RETURNING to shelves just in time for Christmas 4 years after being axed

COCA-COLA has confirmed the return of one its limited edition drinks just in time for Christmas after it was axed four year ago.

One fan described the drink as their “favourite ever” after a post on Facebook revealed the product had returned to UK shelves.

Now, the brand’s Cinnamon flavoured edition has now returned to the UK[/caption]

The drinks manufacturer has confirmed its Zero Sugar Cinnamon flavour will be available across the UK from mid-October until the “end of the year.”

A post in group Newfoodsuk about the drink rapidly gained traction and amassed over 500 comments and 700 reactions.

Some fans rejoiced at the news following the product’s axing in 2020.

One user commented: “Lovely stuff, wish it was available all throughout the year.”

Another added: “Best coke, should be permanent.”

Some described it as their “favourite” while others were excited to “try” the unusual flavour.

However, not all reception was positive.

Some were sceptical of the item’s taste, while others had less than fond memories of it from the past.

One commenter said: “Don’t like the sound of cinnamon coke.”

Another said: “Not something I’d want to try doesn’t sound appealing.”

One unhappy user commented: “Why do Coca-Cola insist on making it zero sugar when it’s flavoured?

“Coke zero is awful.”

The product is currently available exclusively at Tesco in 2L bottles and retails for £1.85.

This places it in line with the price of the brand’s entire Zero range, which also includes regular Zero, Zero Caffeine-Free, Zero Lemon, and Zero Cherry.

Coca-Cola Cinnamon was first introduced in the UK back in 2018 as a “limited-time offer for the holiday season.”

It then returned for the festive season again in 2019 and 2020 but hadn’t been seen in UK supermarkets since.

A ranking of the best Coke flavours in 2024 by lovefood.com placed the cinnamon version 10th on its list.

While fans were split over the revival, some people also took the opportunity to express their sadness at other axed Coca-Cola products.

One user said: ” I wish Coca Cola should bring back the Diet Vanilla Coke that was delicious.”

Just last month, the drink’s giant had to apologise for discontinuing its Cherry Vanilla flavour, citing “consumers’ taste preferences and lifestyles constantly changing.”

Brands being revived this Christmas

A RANGE of classic products are being revived this Christmas after previously being axed.

Aldi’s Chocolate Mountain Bar

ALDI shoppers have been left overjoyed after the supermarket’s iconic Toblerone dupe returned to shelves.

Fans of the bargain retailer have been pleading for the Specially Selected Swiss chocolate bar to make a comeback, with Aldi finally giving in.

The blonde bar is seen as a family favourite with happy customers describing it as “lush” as they race into stores to grab one.

Each 100g pack cost is now priced at £1.69.

Each bar is packed with delicious ingredients from white chocolate, honey, almond, nougat and salted caramel pieces.

Mars’ Marathon Bars

Mars announced it was bringing back the iconic Marathon chocolate bar after it was rebranded 34 years ago.

The bar was re-titled as Snickers in 1990 and lost its iconic name but will return to supermarket shelves for a limited time this year.

The limited-edition wrappers will be available exclusively at Morrisons until December, which means you’ll only have a few months to enjoy the blast from the past.

Starbucks’ Toffee Nut Latte

Starbucks fans are going wild as a £1.50 buy has landed back in stores – and if you’re a lover of the coffee chain’s Christmas drinks, then prepare to be overjoyed.

One savvy shopper was left beaming when browsing in her local Sainsbury’s, when she noticed that toffee nut latte sachets were now available to buy.

So if you’re obsessed with the Starbucks Christmas beverage, which normally hits stores at the start of November and is available until the end of the year, and want to be able to have it all year round, you’ll need to head to Sainsbury’s and stock up.

Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Winter Mint Crisp

The confectionery giant has brought back its Dairy Milk Mint Crisp bar for shoppers to enjoy as the nights draw in.

It forms part of the sweet makers’ new Christmas range which also includes a retro selection box.

Cadbury‘s confirmed earlier this year that the minty treat had been axed from shelves and it had “no plans to reintroduce it”.

It came after nostalgic shoppers made calls for Cadbury‘s to bring back the retro snack.

Its Winter Mint Crisp bar has already landed on shelves, with Tesco charging £4.50 for a 360g bar.

You can get it for just £4 if you have a Tesco Clubcard.

It is also on offer at supermarket Asda for £4.

McDonald’s french fry maker closing plant & ‘laying off 400’ – as fast food chains make changes to bring back customers

A FRENCH fry supplier for McDonald’s will be shutting down an entire plant and laying off hundreds of workers this fall.

The move comes after many consumers are turning away from fast food chains amid inflation rates and high menu prices.

McDonald’s World Famous Fries are a staple for customers[/caption]

Lamb Weston, known as one of the largest french fry producers in North America, confirmed the impending closure last week, per CNN.

The company works with several big-name fast food chains, grocery stores, and restaurants to supply frozen potato-based products.

While Lamb Weston is headquartered out of Eagle, Idaho, it has a large production plant in Connell, Washington, about 100 miles southwest of Spokane.

The Connell plant is the affected location, laying off a total of 379 employees, about 4% of its total workforce, per information from the Washington State Employment Security Department.

Considering that the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) applies in Washington, the affected workers at Lamb Weston must be notified at least 60 days before any layoffs or closures.

Forms were filed by Lamb Weston and received by the Employment Security Department as of October 1, according to its database.

With the closure date for the Lamb Weston plant set for November 30, 2024, it narrowly makes the window.

The U.S. Sun has contacted Lamb Weston and McDonald’s for further comment on the plant shutdown and layoffs.

VALUE BLOWBACK

Lamb Weston has faced some financial struggles in 2024.

Its market shares have dropped 35%, and CEO Thomas Werner said McDonald’s recent moves to draw customers back with lower-priced value meals aren’t helping.

The fast food giant introduced a $5 value meal earlier this summer with a McDouble or McChicken as an entree paired with a side of a four-piece chicken nugget, small french fries, and a soft drink.

“Many of these promotional meal deals have consumers trading down from a medium fry to a small fry,” Werner told investors during a recent earnings call.

It would be cause for concern, considering that McDonald’s accounts for around 13% of Lamb Weston’s revenue, according to CNN.

McDonald’s isn’t alone though in its attempts to appeal to customers recently, as fast food chains have suffered across the board this year.

Lamb Weston’s data showed customer traffic at the chains it works with dropped a collective 2% during last quarter, and 3% during the previous compared to the same time in 2023.

Brief Lamb Weston History

  • Started back in the 1950s by F. Gilbert Lamb in Weston, Oregon
  • Lamb bought a defunct co-op plant and converted it into a processing plant
  • Invented Lamb Water Gun Knife in the 1960s to help cut potatoes into fries using high-velocity water
  • Later developed the Automatic Defect Removal System in 1983 to weed out defected fries instantly
  • Also invented Twister Fries (known by many as curly fries) and CrissCut Fries (waffle fries) around the same time
  • Develops more premium fry products in 1989
  • Partners with Meijer Frozen Foods in 1994
  • Expands to Canada in 1998
  • Introduces several new products in the early 2000s
  • Expands further and becomes a public company on the stock market in 2016

PRICE PROBLEMS

Customers cried out over McDonald’s prices specifically last year and earlier this year, with a couple of viral videos online showing a Big Mac combo for $18 and a 40-piece McNugget for $25.39.

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski later promised customers more “menu innovation” and “affordable prices that will be more attractive.”

It’s also been testing a three-piece McCrispy Chicken Strips combo at select locations for $4.99.

National Cheeseburger Day on September 18 also saw the chain offer 50-cent burgers.

McDonald’s also recently saw backlash over its Happy Meal toy partnership with Crocs.

It’s change to McFlurry cups also had some customers confused over the new “flaps.”

Menendez brothers had no chance at ‘circus’ trial after OJ Simpson got off – there was no desire for truth, cousin says

WHEN Erik and Lyle Menendez headed into their second trial in October 1995, the Los Angeles legal system was in a spin.

Just eight days before the opening statements were delivered in the case of the murder of their parents in their Beverly Hills home, OJ Simpson’s global headline-grabbing acquittal stunned the watching world.

The attorney for Erik and Lyle Menendez told The U.S. Sun he believes their second trial was unfair and influenced by the shock OJ Simpson verdict[/caption]

The infamous OJ Simpson trial concluded just days before the Menedez brothers’ retrial[/caption]
The U.S. Sun
The brothers’ cousin, Anamaria Baraly, spoke exclusively to The U.S. Sun about the ‘circus’ that followed the double murder case[/caption]

The LA District Attorney, Gil Garcetti, was under massive pressure following the incredible fallout of the Simpson verdict, which saw him roundly criticized for the NFL legend being cleared of charges for the murder of his wife, Nicole Brown.

Furthermore, the same judge who handed the brothers a double murder charge and a life sentence also presided over the case of the beating of Rodney King three years earlier by four Los Angeles Police Department officers.

Members of the Mendenez family and Mark Geragos, the current attorney of the brothers who is pushing for their release by the end of this year, are convinced this polluted backstory ultimately consigned Erik and Lyle to over three decades behind bars.

Interest in the case has exploded in the last few weeks following a Netflix dramatization and documentary about the double murder case.

Following the shooting of their parents, Jose and Kitty, Erik and Lyle were charged with first-degree murder, which prosecutors maintained was for financial gain.

Both argued they were forced into their shocking actions following years of sexual, mental, and physical abuse meted out by their father.

However, the two juries were deadlocked, and a mistrial was called in January 1994 before a retrial began at the end of 1995.

They were tried together, unlike the first, where they appeared individually, and were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

“They didn’t get a fair second trial, and the reason for that is between the two trials, OJ was convicted,” Geragos told The U.S. Sun.

“The perception during those five years was that the LA DA office couldn’t win the big ones.”

The brothers’ cousin, Anamaria Baralt, couldn’t agree more.

The Seattle-based yoga instructor spoke exclusively to The U.S. Sun about the pain suffered by her beloved late father, who was close to Jose Menendez, the multi-millionaire TV executive, who was killed along with his wife amid claims from his sons of sexual and mental abuse.

She also revealed almost all of the family have signed a petition to free the boys.

At the time, Anamaria was just 18 years old and recalls the “circus” that engulfed one of the most infamous court cases ever and how people were “losing their minds” over the Simpson verdict.

“It was seen as a huge failure for the state of California, so when the not guilty verdict came in, people’s attention immediately shifted to the Menendez trial,” she said.

“The feeling was they would get a conviction no matter what.”

Timeline of the Menendez brothers case

Erik and Lyle Menendez are serving life sentences in prison after being found guilty of shooting their parents to death over 30 years ago.

August 20, 1989 – José and Kitty Menendez are shot to death

March 8, 1990 – Lyle is arrested for the murders

March 11, 1990 – Erik turns himself in

July 20, 1993 – Highly publicized trial begins and ends weeks later in a mistrial

October 11, 1995 – Second trial begins

March 20, 1996 – Menendez brothers are convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder

July 2, 1996 – Menendez brothers are sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and sent to separate prisons

February 2018 – Lyle is transferred to the San Diego prison where Erik is held

April 4, 2018 – Erik and Lyle are reunited

May 2023 – Attorney representing the Menendez brothers files a habeas petition

September 19, 2024 – Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story comes out on Netflix

October 3, 2024: Los Angeles authorities reviewing new evidence in connection with the brothers’ convictions

October 7, 2024 – The Menendez Brothers documentary film comes out on Netflix

The second trial, which started on October 11, 1995, saw the presiding Judge Weisberg withdraw some of the domestic abuse evidence used by the defense, one element Anamaria believes sealed their cousins’ fate.

Weisberg also ruled that the trial would not be televised, unlike the first, and limited the number of witnesses the defense was allowed to call upon.

The tally was reduced from 101 to 64 for the second trial.

“There was a perception surrounding them being male. If this were the Menendez sisters we talked about, they would have been out by now.

Mark Geragos, attorney for Erik and Lyle Menendez

She maintains allegations of wrongdoing from Jose, who has since been accused of molesting a boy band member which will be used in the push by Geragos to end the brothers’ prison hell, were “completely denied.”

“It was difficult for people to understand that boys could be abused,” she said.

“Those allegations were simply not accepted on a societal level. There wasn’t an openness to understanding this kind of situation like there is today.

“There was less desire to even get to the truth anymore. It was like, we need to nail this.”

Highly experienced lawmaker Geragos also points to other inconsistencies, including his own case from 1994.

The LA-based attorney said that against the backdrop of the Menendez case, he represented a woman who avoided a murder charge and instead received manslaughter and probation.

He recoils that the brothers were denied a similar defense in the second trial “because it didn’t apply to children.”

“Can you imagine that happening today?” he asked.

“There was a perception surrounding them being male. If this were the Menendez sisters we talked about, they would have been out by now.”

Lisa Marie Presley’s 5 biggest bombshells in memoir- including her claim ex Michael Jackson was ‘still a virgin at 35’

LISA Marie Presley has dropped some HUGE bombshells in her new memoir.

The daughter of Elvis Presley’s book, From Here to the Great Unknown, was released today (October 8 2024).

Lisa and Michael dated in the 90s[/caption]

Lisa passed away aged 54 in January last year.

So her daughter Riley Keough has helped finish off the memoir by listening to tapes that Lisa had left behind.

In From Here to the Great Unknown, Lisa’s relationship with Michael Jackson, her son Benjamin and her dad Elvis’ death, and her addiction are mentioned.

Here are some bombshells that she has disclosed in the book…

1. Michael Jackson was a virgin when they got together

Reuters
Lisa claimed that Michael was a virgin when they started dating[/caption]

Lisa and Michel got together in 1994, after her split from first husband Danny Keough.

A spark was ignited after a trip to Las Vegas, where Michael declared his feelings towards her.

Writing about their relationship in the book, Lisa claimed: “He told me he was still a virgin.

“I think he had kissed Tatum O’Neal, and he’d had a thing with Brooke Shields, which hadn’t been physical apart from a kiss.

“He said Madonna had tried to hook up with him once, too, but nothing happened.

“I was terrified because I didn’t want to make the wrong move.”

The pair were married between 1994 and 1996.

Lisa was 25 at the time and Michael was 10 years older than her.

2. Lisa kept her dead son’s body on dry ice for months

Alamy

Lisa’s son Benjamin, who she shared with her ex husband Danny Keough, died on July 12 2020.

He was just 27-years-old.

In her memoir she explained that she kept his body at 55 degrees at their home in Los Angeles.

Her daughter Riley wrote that it allowed her mom to “have ample time to say goodbye to him, the same way she’d done with her dad”.

Lisa wrote: “Having my dad in the house after he died was incredibly helpful because I could go and spend time with him and talk to him.”

The reason that he was there for so long was because she was trying to choose where she wanted to bury him – either Graceland or Hawaii.

She wrote: “I got so used to him, caring for him and keeping him there. I think it would scare the living f***ing p*** out of anybody else to have their son there like that.

“But not me.”

Lisa lost her dad Elvis when she was just nine, back in 1977.

3. Her addiction

Getty
Lisa’s addiction worsened after the birth of her daughters[/caption]

After welcoming her twin daughters Finley and Harper – who she shares with Michael Lockwood – into the world in 2008, her drug addiction hit an all time low.

Lisa confessed to doing 80 pills a day and felt that her “whole life had blown up”.

Recalling getting help, Ben drove her from Nashville to LA so that she could carry on taking drugs.

Lisa wrote: “We drove because I wanted to do cocaine the whole time and couldn’t if I was on an airplane.

“I didn’t think I could even get through airport security.”

4. Lisa sensed that her dad Elvis would die

The King of Rock and Roll Elvis died aged 42 on August 16 1977, after suffering a heart attack.

In the book Lisa confessed: “I wrote a poem with the line, ‘I hope my daddy doesn’t die’.”

Recalling the moment she found out he was no longer alive, she wrote: “My life as I knew it was completely over.”

5. Sexual abuse claims

Lisa also wrote about what her mom Priscilla’s boyfriend actor Michael Edwards used to do to her from the age of 10.

Recalling what happened, Lisa wrote: “He said he was going to teach me what was going to happen when I got older.

“He was putting his hand on my chest and saying a man’s going to touch here, then he put his hand between my legs and he said they’re going to touch you here.”

When he was called out on his behavior by Lisa’s mom, she said that he replied: ‘In Europe that’s how they teach the kids, so that’s what I was doing’.”

She alleges that he would also “touch” and “spank” her.

Lisa wrote: “I was eleven, twelve, thirteen.”

The Sun US have attempted to reach Michael for comment.

Bar owner ‘orders 300 cases of beer’ for those riding out Hurricane Milton despite desperate pleas for everyone to flee

A RESTAURANT owner who has kept his dive bar open to customers for over 30 years without ever shutting his doors has defiantly refused to close despite warnings about the once-in-a-century hurricane.

Hurricane Milton is poised to be one of the worst storms in 100 years to rock Florida – a state still reeling from the devastation Helene caused 12 days ago.

Florida lawmakers have warned its Gulf Coast residents to evacuate immediately before the storm’s expected landfall late Wednesday.

Hurricane Milton, which downgraded from a Category 5 to a Category 4 storm on Tuesday, is expected to thrash west-central Florida with 150 mph winds and the potential for 15 feet of storm surge.

But despite the dire warnings from experts and state officials, Becky Oldfield said her father and mother-in-law don’t plan on closing up shop.

“Big Rip” Oldfield and his wife, Debby, have owned and operated The Rock Springs Bar & Grill in Apopka, Florida, about 25 miles north of Orlando, since 1986.

Since then, Oldfield has kept his doors open through the Covid-19 pandemic, holidays, and the destructive forces of Hurricanes Wilma (2005), Irma (2017), and Ian (2022).

“We’re still having karaoke tonight as we do every Tuesday,” Becky told The U.S. Sun.

“We’ve ordered 300 cases of beer. These people are very nuts around here. It’s a dive bar.

“We usually get a storm crowd during a hurricane.”

They’re staying the night in the bar. We have six generators ready to crank it up.

Becky Oldfield

Becky and her husband, “Big Rip” Jr., run an ice and water stand, Twice the Ice, steps from her in-laws’ dive bar.

She said dozens of people have visited her stand, which is open 24 hours, to stock up on ice and water as they brace for Hurricane Milton’s arrival.

Meanwhile, the Oldfields plan to take shelter at their bar and have six generators ready for emergencies.

“They’re staying the night in the bar,” Becky told The U.S. Sun.

“We have six generators ready to crank it up.”

However, despite her in-laws’ commitment to weather the storm, Becky said they’ll be forced to close the restaurant if the situation becomes unbearable.

“If it gets crazy, it will shut down,” she said.

“But, me personally, I don’t think they will shut down because they’re crazy.”

‘ASTRONOMICAL’ STORM

More than a million people have been ordered to evacuate from Hurricane Milton’s path – with an additional six million under hurricane-watch warning.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor warned the city’s almost 400,000 residents to evacuate.

“I can say this without any dramatization whatsoever: if you choose to stay in one of those evacuation areas, you are going to die,” Castor told CNN.

“This is something that I have never seen in my life, and anyone who was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area has never seen this before.”

Orlando meteorologist Noah Bergren described the storm as “nothing short of astronomical.”

“I am at a loss for words to meteorologically describe you the storms small eye and intensity,” he wrote on X.

This is not a storm you want to take a risk on.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said the hurricane is already far stronger than predicted two days ago.

“This is a ferocious hurricane,” DeSantis said.

“At the strength it is now, this is a really, really strong storm.

“The effects of that, not just from the storm surge but from wind damage and debris, will be really, really significant.

“This is not a storm you want to take a risk on.”

Liz Alpert, the mayor of Sarasota, one of the cities on Florida’s Gulf Coast that is on the direct path of the hurricane, warned residents to vacate the area.

“What everyone has been saying is you have to evacuate; it’s not survivable to survive a 10 to 15-foot storm surge. It just simply isn’t,” Alpert told NBC News.

“I think people are heeding that warning after having lived through Helene.”

President Joe Biden canceled his overseas trip on Tuesday as the catastrophic risk Milton poses on Florida increases.

Biden was scheduled to depart for Berlin on Thursday and then head south to Angola before returning to the United States on October 15.

“Given the projected trajectory and strength of Hurricane Milton, President Biden is postponing his upcoming trip to Germany and Angola in order to oversee preparations for and the response to Hurricane Miltion, in addition to the ongoing response to the impacts of Hurricane Helene across the Southeast,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told NBC News in a statement.

What is a hurricane and how do they form?

A HURRICANE is another name for a tropical cyclone - a powerful storm that forms over warm ocean waters near the equator.

Those arising in the Atlantic or eastern Pacific are called hurricanes, while those in the western Pacific and Indian Ocean are dubbed typhoons or cyclones.

North of the equator they spin anticlockwise because of the rotation of the Earth, however, they turn the opposite way in the southern hemisphere.

Cyclones are like giant weather engines fuelled by water vapor as it evaporates from the sea.

Warm, moist air rises away from the surface, creating a low-pressure system that sucks in air from surrounding areas – which in turn is warmed by the ocean.

As the vapour rises it cools and condenses into swirling bands of cumulonimbus storm clouds.

The system grows and spins faster, sucking in more air and feeding off the energy in seawater that has been warmed by the sun.

At the center, a calm “eye” of the storm is created where cooled air sinks towards the ultra-low pressure zone below, surrounded by spiraling winds of warm air rising.

The faster the wind, the lower the air pressure at the center, and the storm grows stronger and stronger.

Tropical cyclones usually weaken when they hit land as they are no longer fed by evaporation from the warm sea.

But they often move far inland – dumping vast amounts of rain and causing devastating wind damage – before the “fuel” runs out and the storm peters out.

Hurricanes can also cause storm surges when the low air pressure sucks the sea level higher than normal, swamping low-lying coasts.

Serena Williams’ crumbling childhood home in path of Hurricane Milton with dad King Richard ‘battening down the hatches’

SERENA Williams’ dad and family are “battening down the hatches” as her crumbling childhood home could be affected by Hurricane Milton, The U.S. Sun can exclusively reveal.

The star’s father, known as “King Richard,” and his wife Lakeisa Williams fought for years over the house in West Palm Beach, Florida.

This dilapidated pad was at the center of a years-long legal battle involving Lakeisha and Richard Williams[/caption]

After reconciling and calling off their divorce earlier this year, they ended up selling the home to a man linked to Lakesiha as they wanted to “keep it in the family.”

But the home needs extensive work and could end up destroyed if it’s in the path of the Category Four hurricane heading to the Sunshine State this week.

Richard, 82, and Lakeisha, 45, are now said to be living together at a four-bedroom property just minutes away.

According to documents seen by The U.S. Sun, the one-story home is listed in Serena’s name and was bought for $815,000 in June 2015.

Richard’s son, Chavoita LeSane, said the entire family is preparing for the hurricane to make sure their houses are not badly affected by the storm.

He said, “We’re battening everything down. We are okay. We are close, he [Richard] is okay, just spoke with him. We are prepared.”

Serena herself also lives in a mansion in Palm Beach with her husband Alexis Ohanian and their two young children.

All of South Florida, including Palm Beach County, is currently under a tropical storm warning, even though the hurricane may not directly pass through the area.

NEW BUYER

According to the Palm Beach Post, sustained winds in the county could reach up to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph.

The Mayor’s Office for the City of West Palm Beach said on Tuesday it is taking measures to ensure storm and water management systems are ready for possibly heavy rains.

They said, “At this time, we are not expecting hurricane conditions within the City of West Palm Beach areas; however, residents should prepare for significant rainfall and potentially tropical storm winds later this week. Impacts could include a major rain event of up to 10 inches that will result in localized flooding.”

Palm Beach County leaders later issued evacuation orders Tuesday for residents in some areas and five general population shelters have been opened.

According to reports, residents need to evacuate if they live in a manufactured home, a home of substandard construction, or a home prone to severe flooding.

The old home Richard once owned is thought to be empty and in terrible condition, although some of the roof has been fixed, according to his son.

Lakeisha admitted to forging Richard’s signature and had the property transferred to her before taking out a loan with a lender, David Simon, according to court documents.

She was unable to pay back the loan which almost saw the house auctioned off in a messy legal battle over around $436,000 she owed to Simon.

The house was saved from foreclosure at the last minute by a mystery purchaser, who bought the property for $1.2 million just days before a court-ordered auction.

This meant that Lakeisha’s debt was paid off – and she is even believed to have made nearly $500,000 profit from the sale.

Richard and Lakeisha's house timeline

The U.S. Sun

Richard Williams lost control of his marital home many years ago and was fighting his estranged wife Lakeisha in court until last month. Remarkably, the couple is now back together and the house has sold. Here’s a full rundown of the house drama.

May 2017

  • Richard claimed in his initial divorce petition in 2017 that Lekeisha had forged his name on a deed transfer for their home and stole his Social Security checks.

March 2020

  • Court documents revealed excerpts from Lakeisha’s testimony, in which she admits to forging her ex’s signature, but alleged she did so as he had left her and their son to starve, which his legal team denied at the time.

February 2022

  • Lakeisha told a judge that her stepdaughter Serena wanted to lock her out of the family home. She claimed a letter from the tennis star’s lawyers “threatened to change the locks” if she did not vacate the property. Her legal team at the time did not respond to requests for comment.

June 2022

  • Richard filed a $1 million lawsuit against Lakeisha, despite her claiming in court documents they had reconciled and had been sleeping together again, which he later denied. It was later thrown out.

July 2022

  • Their home was valued at $1.45 million and was due to be auctioned off, but Lakeisha filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy and stalled the sale. The bankruptcy case was dismissed on July 5 but she filed to have it reinstated claiming she had found money for a repayment plan. She was in hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt after taking out a huge loan from a hard lender and failing to pay it back.

August 2023

  • It was revealed Lakeisha was struggling to keep up with her repayment plan as she battled to keep the house, where she was said to be living despite it needing extensive repair work.

April 2024

  • Lakeisha tried for months to stave off the house being sold at auction by filing for Chapter 13 bankruptcy three times, but each attempt failed.

July 2024

  • Richard’s son Chavoita confirms he is no longer pursuing a divorce and the pair are “happy” after reconciling. He insisted the house was safe and she had mysteriously managed to pay off her huge debts.

August 2024

  • Documents show the house sold for $1.2 million to a mystery company set up in June last year called Hardy Firm LLC. It is thought the owner has links to Lakeisha Williams and they have managed to keep the home in the family.

According to public records, the buyer is a company set up in June last year called Hardy Firm LLC.

The only named agent or director listed for the company is a man named Darrious Christian of Fort Lauderdale, who is linked to Lakeisha.

It is not known what will happen to the house now, but Chavoita previously said it was in good hands and they didn’t want to sell it to anybody else.

Florida is now braced for what is being described as “the worst storm in a century” with winds up to 150mph winds already hitting Mexico.

The hurricane is allegedly set to double in size before hitting the state on Wednesday night.

President Joe Biden said, “This could be the worst storm to hit Florida in over a century, and God willing, it won’t be, but that’s what it’s looking like right now.”

He has delivered a stark warning to residents who sit in the path of Milton to evacuate immediately as he labelled the choice “a matter of life and death.”

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) also warned of the damning predictions today, saying: “Milton is still a relatively compact hurricane, but the wind field is expected to continue to grow in size as it approaches Florida.

“The official forecast shows the hurricane and tropical storm-force winds roughly doubling in size by the time it makes landfall.”

The NHC added Milton will be “an extremely dangerous hurricane when it reaches shore.”

The storm was downgraded from a Category 5 to a Category 4 hurricane by Tuesday morning but is still expected to make landfall on Florida‘s Gulf Coast tomorrow evening.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said the storm was likely to hit near the Tampa Bay metropolitan area, although surrounding areas will be affected.

Six million people have been put under hurricane-watch warning along with the million already told to flee.

Bob Costas caught in awkward hot-mic moment in Yankees-Royals as he says CNN promo ‘puts me in a difficult spot’

MLB commentator Bob Costas appeared to experience an unfortunate hot-mic sequence during the playoff game between the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals.

The 72-year-old broadcaster appeared unhappy about reading an advertisement for a media network during TBS’s broadcast of Game 2 of the ALDS series between the two MLB teams.

During the bottom of the fifth inning, with the Royals up 4-1, Kansas City reliever Angel Zerpa was on the mound and ready to throw a pitch.

Costas seemed to be told to read a promo for CNN.

“A CNN promo?” he asked, seemingly unaware that TV viewers could hear his microphone.

“That puts me in a difficult spot,” Costas added after breaking a momentary silence.

It’s not clear how the sequence happened.

Costas has been a contributor for CNN since 2020.

It wasn’t unusual for TBS to air a promo for CNN due to the fact Warner Bros. Discovery owns both TBS and CNN.

Costas has been on the call of the American League Division Series between the Yankees and Royals alongside analyst Ron Darling.

However, the broadcasting icon has gotten plenty of criticism over his play-play-play performance.

Among the complaints from fans is the veteran Costas’s seemingly low energy in certain moments, including when Kansas City outfielder Tommy Pham scored the first run of Game 1.

“I’ve seen more energy in aisles of a Costco than I have from Bob Costas during game 2 of the Divisional Series,” one fan wrote on X.

“Costas never brings excitement,” a second said.

“Bob Costas is absolutely boring,” a third commented.

As for Game 2, the Royals went on to win 4-2 on the road at Yankee Stadium.

All-Star catcher Salvador Parez led off the fourth inning to spark a four-run rally against starting pitcher Carlos Rodon.

They tied the series 1-1 and will head back to Kansas City.

Game 3 will take place on Wednesday night.

The Royals will play in their first postseason home game since the 2015 World Series.

Costas will look to rebound in Game 3 after his disappointing broadcasting performances.
