Future of gritty Channel 4 thriller revealed after one series on air

FANS of The Light in the Hall will be pleased that series two is set to be filmed later this month.

TV bosses have confirmed that a second season of the thrilling Welsh crime drama ‘Y Golau: Dŵr’ (Still Waters) will be produced in partnership with Triongl/APC and Channel 4.

The new Channel 4 drama could be on screens soon after Welsh broadcasters confirm that series two of Y Golau: Dŵr (Still Waters) is set to go into production.[/caption]

Season two is set in the fictional village of Llanemlyn featuring Sian Reese-Williams, Mark Lewis-Jones and Robert Glenister.

Season one was aired on S4C back in May 2022.

It was a ratings hit, leading to the making of an English language version known as The Light in The Hall, televised on Channel 4, featuring Joanna Scanlan, Alexandra Roach and Iwan Rheon.

Now bosses have confirmed that a new season will return to S4C and Channel 4 in due course.

The Welsh language television channel, announced several original scripted drama recommissions for 2025/2026, with a mainly new all-star cast.

In the first series, journalist Cat Donato (Roach), originally from the same town as Ela Roberts was obsessed by the case of murdered schoolgirl Ela.

Fans will remember that she was excluded from her friendship group due to a teenage row.

Ela’s mother, Sharon Roberts (Scanlan) is still grieving for the loss of her daughter and haunted by her memories of that last day,

Meanwhile, Joe Pritchard (Rheon), a quiet, retiring gardener, was arrested for Ela’s murder after her DNA was found at his caravan.

Joe eventually confessed to killing Ela but would not reveal what he did with her body.

The news of Joe’s parole hearing and the prospect of his release causes both women to confront the past and the part they played in Ela’s final days.

For Cat it’s a chance to write the true events surrounding the murder and for Sharon a chance to confront the man who killed her child.

Joe’s return to the community could help viewers get to the bottom of the mystery once and for all leading to questions finally being answered.

Fans will be left wondering if Joe Pritchard really did kill Ela, why did he do it, and where did he hide the body?

Channel 4's best competition shows

Channel 4 boasts a number impressive competition shows, but which ones are really the best?

Four in a Bed

  • Reality competition show Four in a Bed has been airing on Channel 4 since 2010. It follows four couples as they take turns to stay at each others B&Bs and hotels, rating their stays along the way. The couple with the establishment voted best value for money are the winners.

Come Dine With Me

  • Come Dine With Me has been staple British viewing since 2005, providing some outrageous telly moments over the years. Like Four in a Bed, the series moves around to different properties as it follows four contestants as they each host a (supposedly) gourmet dinner party for each other. After each dinner the guests score the host out of 10, will the winner being revealed on the final evening.

The Great British Bake Off

  • Another national treasure, The Great British Bake Off welcomes a group of 12 amateur bakers to put their culinary skills to the test with Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith judging their efforts. One contestant is eliminated each week until the final three face off in the last week.

Bake Off: The Professionals

  • Bake Off: The Professionals puts a twist on GBBO, pitting two teams of professional pastry chefs against each other in every episode. It’s up to judges Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden to determine who has what it takes to make it through to the final.

Watch as Eamonn Holmes blasts ‘false’ Holly Willoughby AND Phillip Schofield after he’s slammed by ex This Morning star

EAMONN Holmes has accused Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield of parading a “false friendship” on This Morning.

The TV veteran shared his scathing verdict after The Sun revealed Phil’s nickname for Holly following their catastrophic and his depature from the daytime show.

GB News anchor Eamonn today refused to defend either Phil or Holly during a debate with his co-host Isabel Webster and showbiz reporter Stephanie Tayki on the channel.

Stephanie argued that Holly was forced to save “what was left of her career” after Phil’s affair with a much younger colleague was revealed soon after his brother’s arrest.

Scoffing at the remark, Eamonn said: “Saving her career? Her career has never been stronger. She’s on Netflix, she’s on other stations.

“This Morning is a daytime show she doesn’t need This Morning.”

Stephanie argued: “Well she did at the time.

“And because Phillip Schofield’s career had been tainted he was taking Holly with her.

“So she had to protect what was left of her career. But for Phillip Schofield he saw it as they were ‘in it together’.”

Eamonn shot back: “It was very much a false relationship.”

To which Stephanie asked: “Why would you say that it’s false?”

“Look at the way it ended,” Eamonn went on. “If this was your friend you would come out and say, ‘look something bad has happened here and I don’t agree with it’.

“But she said nothing. Absolutely nothing. She was protecting herself in this.”

Stephanie went on to explain that there were “different sides to it”, suggesting that viewers on This Morning believed in Holly and Phil’s “chemistry” but following the scandal Holly probably wasn’t able “to play ball”.

The Sun revealed how after he was sacked from This Morning, Phil, 62, sent Holly a message and said: “You’ve brought me down.”

Five most explosive ITV bombshells from Phillip Schofield’s Cast Away as TV insiders hit back

By Mary Gallagher

PHILLIP Schofield has finally returned to the screen after a stormy year and the TV world is buzzing.

The former This Morning legend spent ten days alone on an island where he filmed himself talking to camera for the Channel 5 show, Cast Away.

His wife Steph, and daughters Ruby and Mollie sent him off with an emotional final dinner, before he revealed shocking details about his This Morning departure, his personal life, and his fallout with ITV.

However, some ITV insiders have accused him of lying on the show – after he blamed his brother’s arrest for being sacked from This Morning.

Here are the biggest revelations from the interview:

Drowning in guilt

Schofield admitted that he was overwhelmed with guilt following his public exit from This Morning.

He confessed that the controversy surrounding his affair with a younger colleague consumed him emotionally.

“I was drowning,” Schofield revealed, noting that the backlash was far worse than he had anticipated.

ITV fallout: No contact after he left

The presenter didn’t hold back when discussing his fallout with ITV.
Schofield revealed that he hasn’t had any contact with the channel since he was fired.

Schofield blamed his brother for being fired from his lucrative This Morning and Dancing on Ice gigs.

Despite years as one of ITV’s most high-profile stars, the relationship turned frosty after his scandal made headlines.

He said: “Man alive, people can be fake. They can be so fake.

“With you when it’s all going well and suddenly utter, utter betrayal.

“When the tidal wave washed through and it washed everybody away, the ones that were still standing, they’re the ones that matter.

“And I thought, how many friends do you need?

“I don’t need 200 fake friends. I’ve got 10, 15, friends I would die for, and they would die for me.”

His affair wasn’t illegal

The TV veteran addressed the ongoing talk about his affair, clarifying that, while morally wrong, it wasn’t illegal.

He said the relationship happened between “two consenting adults” and denied any improper conduct while the younger colleague worked on This Morning.

Holly Willoughby silence

Surprisingly, Schofield admitted that his friendship with Holly Willoughby has been effectively over since the scandal broke.
Once daytime TV’s golden duo, Schofield confessed they no longer talk, with Holly keeping her distance ever since the affair hit the headlines.

Toxic work culture? Schofield says “No”

Amid reports of a “toxic” work culture at This Morning, Schofield pushed back against the allegations.

He praised the crew and behind-the-scenes staff, calling it a “wonderful place” to work.

The former host seemed baffled by claims of toxicity, despite his own highly public exit.

Struggling with mental health

Schofield also revealed the emotional toll the past year has taken on his mental health. He admitted to having dark thoughts, sharing, “I didn’t see a way forward.”

He thanked his family and close friends, who have been a lifeline throughout the ordeal.

The pair later cut contact and have not been in touch.

A friend said: “Phil feels that he was sacked because of the bad press around his brother. Everyone knew about Tim’s arrest — including Holly.

“They had a backstage make-up room called The Sanctuary at This Morning, where Phil first assembled trusted pals including Holly and told them, tearfully, about his brother. Holly held his hand and was super-kind.

“But Phil feels she distanced herself from it publicly because it was bad for her brand. But she supported Phil and was disgusted by what his brother had done.”

Holly, 43, has yet to publicly respond to the comments but those close to told The Sun she’d never rise to Phil.

A pal added: “Holly isn’t batting an eyelid at this, it’s like she couldn’t care less.

“Phil is coming across as incredibly bitter.

“Holly knows who her friends are and they’re the people she pays attention to.”

‘I’m soaked to the skin – my bum is so wet’ says Amanda Holden as she gives update on 250-mile charity bike ride

AMANDA Holden is soaked through and has a very soggy bottom on her mammoth 250-mile charity cycle ride.

The radio and TV star, 53, is tackling the lengthy route – from Bude, Cornwall to Central London – in aid of Global’s Make Some Noise which supports small charities across the country.

Amanda is being well supported along her route[/caption]

After setting off on the five day slog yesterday, Amanda checked in with her Heart Radio colleagues this morning, leaving Pandora Christie a voice note.

In it, Amanda said: “Pandora, you’ve got me at a wrong point. I’m going up a hill, but I have just had the eggiest bap at Kitchen at the Wharf in Langport. What a breakfast that was, thank you to everybody there!

“The weather is biblical. It’s coming down in stair rods, as they said on Paddington. I’m honestly soaked to the skin, my bum, everything’s wet, but only my thumbs are aching.

“So I’m lucky at the moment, and I’m thinking that could be because of the amount of support we’re getting and I am constantly putting my thumbs up, maybe it’s that!

“But keep those donations coming in. This morning, we got the best news. The Wild Robot has donated 100,000 pounds to Global’s Make Some Noise, so that’s what’s keeping us going in this blinking awful weather! Love you Pan!”

The Wild Robot is a critically-acclaimed new animation from Dreamworks which tells the story of a marooned robot on a deserted island and the challenges she faces acclimatising to her new home.

Responding live on air, Pandora said: “Oh, I love you too Amanda! You can do it, you can do it. We’re all behind you. And a massive shout out to Wild Robot as well for that incredibly generous donation.”

Amanda did her best to prepare for the peddle power challenge by slathering her bum in special butter to prevent chafing.

She told The Sun ahead of the challenge: “I’d never heard of bum butter but now I’ve got so many varieties.

“My friends keep sending it to me.

“I’m completely covered.”

While Amanda is fit and healthy, she’s not a cyclist and is burning an estimated 15,000 calories a day in the saddle.

But she’s being cheered on by daughters Lexi, 18, and Hollie, 12, and husband Chris, 52, and her spirits are receiving a boost from a mix of Abba’s greatest hits and chart pop.

Twisted Twins: What we know about Jasmiyah and Tasmiyah Whitehead and how they killed their mom Nikki

JASMIYAH and Tasmiyah Whitehead murdered their mom, Nikki, on January 13, 2010.

The second episode of the Twisted Twins series will air on ITV on October 8, 2024, and will dive into the details of the tragic case.

The twins were raised partly by their mother and partly by their great-grandmother
ITV

ITV

The twins, known as Jas and Tas to their family and friends, killed their mom in their home in Georgia.

But why did the honor roll twins commit such a heinous crime?

Life in Georgia

Jas and Tas were born on November 27, 1993, to their 18-year-old mother Nikki, whose real name was Jarmecca Yvonne Whitehead.

When Nikki turned 25 in 2000, she met 55-year-old truck driver Robert Head and the family moved into his home in Conyers, Georgia.

The Twins’ talent for learning was obvious from a young age and they quickly found themselves on the school honor roll.

They were also Girl Scouts in their spare time.

However, their situation at home worsened as, according to their great-grandmother Della Frazier, Nikki was often absent as a mother.

Della raised the two girls for a while but Nikki challenged her for custody.

This led to the girls getting into physical altercations, forcing them to appear in juvenile court and face counselling.

The twins stabbed their mother to death
ITV

Murdering their mother

Nikki regained custody of the girls on January 5, 2020, but Jas and Tas were vehemently opposed to the court.

They were ordered to live with their mother for a two-week trial period, but the girls murdered Nikki just over a week later.

Lt Chris Moon of the Conyers Police Department said: “It was the bloodiest scene I think I’ve ever been to.

“As soon as you opened the door, you could smell the blood, the copper iron smell in the air.”

Nikki was found in the bath, with several stab wounds.

The twins claimed that they had discovered their mother’s body, but a medical examiner determined that the murder was likely to have been committed by someone that Nikki knew.

DNA testing cleared Nikki’s partner of suspicion.

Then, bite marks on the twins, inflicted by their mother during the fight, suggested that they were to blame.

Initially, the twins pleaded not guilty
ITV

The trial and life in prison

Jas and Tas were charged in May 2010 and initially pleaded not guilty.

However, as the evidence against them mounted, Tasmiyah pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and several other charges in January 2014.

Her sister followed suit in February 2014 and they were both sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Tasmiyah began serving her sentence at Arrendale State Prison and Jasmiyah started serving hers at Pulaski State Prison.

They became eligible for parole in 2017.

However, Tasmiyah had a Tentative Parole Month of May 2025, and Jasmiyah had a Tentative Parole Month of September 2027

How can you watch Twisted Twins?

The second episode of ITV’s Twisted Twins airs on October 8, 2024 from 9-10pm.

Fans of the true crime genre can catch up with the first episode of the series on ITVX, which dives into another grizzly murder and twin psychology.

The episode focuses on Australian rugby league footballers Chris and Paul Dawson, and Chris’ cold-blooded murder of his wife Lyn

Chris killed his wife in 1982, but claimed that she had joined a religious commune.

He divorced her just one year after her disappearance and married the family’s teenage babysitter, Joanne Curtis

He was finally convicted for the murder of his wife in December 2022, after a true crime podcast renewed interest in the case just four years earlier.

iPhone owners must check three important settings NOW or they won’t be able to use Apple Intelligence AI

IF you thought iOS 18 was a big deal think again as another mega iPhone upgrade is on its way.

And the newest version will pack the star feature iPhone fans have been waiting for – Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence will do things like prioritise your notifications for you[/caption]

Apple Intelligence is the tech giant’s long-awaited AI push, using ChatGPT’s OpenAI resources in some features for things like Siri.

It wasn’t quite ready for the iOS 18 launch nor iPhone 16 last month.

But the release could be in a matter of days according to a report from Bloomberg.

It’s claimed that Apple Intelligence will finally arrive as part of iOS 18.1 on Monday, October 28.

Don’t expect all the bells and whistles of Apple Intelligence straight away.

Writing improvement tools and summaries of notification are expected to be first but for US English only.

Other English versions such as the UK will have to hold out until December.

After that, integration with ChatGPT and Genmoji, which allows you to create your own emojis, are due to land.

Finally, a whole new Siri infused with AI will land in the spring time.

To take advantage of Apple Intelligence, your phone needs to have a number of specifics set up and ready to go.

As a reminder, only the following iPhones will be able to use Apple Intelligence:

  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max

Here are the three things you need to have on your iPhone for Apple Intelligence to work.

1. iOS 18.1 installed

The most obvious thing you will need on your iPhone to use Apple intelligence is iOS 18.1 installed.

If the latest report is true, that should land on October 28 so keep an eye out.

Full list of iOS 18.1 features

  • Writing Tools
  • Clean Up in Photos
  • Create a Memory movie in Photos
  • Natural language search in Photos
  • Notification summaries
  • Reduce Interruptions Focus
  • Intelligent Breakthrough & Silencing in Focus
  • Priority messages in Mail
  • Smart Reply in Mail and Messages
  • Summaries in Mail and Messages
  • Siri enhancements, including product knowledge, more resilient request handling, new look and feel, more natural voice, the ability to type to Siri, and more

2. The correct language

Apple Intelligence only works on certain languages to begin with, as explained earlier.

Device language and Siri language will need to be set to one of the supported languages.

That begins with US English.

Then in December, the following will be added:

  • English (Australia)
  • English (Canada)
  • English (New Zealand)
  • English (South Africa)
  • English (UK)

Next year, other languages like Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and others will be added on.

Apple says that once you have switched on Apple Intelligence, it will continue to work when you travel to other places around the world.

3. Check your storage

For Apple Intelligence to work you will need at least 4GB of free space on your iPhone.

Apple has warned that storage requirements for on-device Apple Intelligence models will increase as more features roll out, so expect to make way for more in future.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best...

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen (or swipe left to right on an iPhone X or later model), then tap in the bar and type a currency (like $200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you’re due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you’re down to 80% capacity. If you’re below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier

Do you make your partner sleep on the sofa when they have a cold? Almost 1 in 6 bunged-up Brits are banished from bed

NEARLY one in six bunged-up Brits are banished from their beds when they have a cold – spending as long as three nights in exile.

A poll of 2,000 adults found 45 per cent of these ended up seeking refuge in the spare room, while 40 per cent have been forced to flee to the sofa in the dead of night.

One in six Brits are told to sleep on the sofa when they have a cold[/caption]

And 18 per cent ended up sleeping in solitude on the floor of the kid’s room.

Dr Sara Kayat, who has partnered with nasal spray brand Stérimar, which commissioned the research, said: “Suffering from a blocked nose or congestion can make it harder to get to sleep at night.

“A blocked nose can actually feel worse at night because more blood flows to it when you lie down, which can add to the nasal inflammation and congestion.”

It also emerged for 53 per cent their snoring will get worse when they can’t breathe clearly because of a cold or blocked nose.

These ailments will impact the quality of sleep for 70 per cent of adults, depriving them of an average of three hours each night of precious kip.

As a result of this, 61 per cent are low on energy the next day, with 48 per cent being more irritable.

Over a third (37 per cent) of these will struggle to concentrate and 29 per cent won’t be on top form at work, the figures found.

Dr Sara Kayat added: “Having your sleep disturbed by a cold or blocked nose is bad enough.

“But the survey shows that your sleep disturbance can quickly become the source of low energy, negative mood and even relationship grumbles if you keep your loved one awake.

“It’s important to find a solution quickly that helps you breathe more easily, and that lets those around you get good quality sleep too.”

The cold and flu remedies that experts say actually work

Mike Hewitson, a pharmacist from Somerset, suggests the best thing someone can buy when they have a cold or flu is standard paracetamol.

“I generally advise people to use unbranded medicines which are often as effective as the branded products, but at a fraction of the price,” he said.

Paracetamol can help to “control the fever” which often accompanies the flu, Mike said.

Sadik Al-Hassan, a pharmacist based in Bath, added that medicines such as Lemsip Max, which contain a combination of drugs, can also be helpful at reducing symptoms.

“The paracetamol can help reduce pain, the decongestant to clear out the sinuses and vitamin C to help you fight infections faster,” he said.

Both pharmacists warned patients against Echinacea – a herbal supplement which some take to boost immunity.

“While it probably isn’t going to do much harm to take it for most people, there isn’t much evidence to suggest it actually helps,” Mike said.

The experts stressed that prevention is better than cure and there are many effective ways at reducing your chances of getting ill in the first place.

Sadik said: “There are a lot of cold and flu prevention nasal sprays on the market which create a gel barrier which words as a physical barrier.”

Meanwhile, Mike pointed out that it isn’t too late to get a flu jab.

“Many pharmacies will also be able to provide you with a private flu vaccination service if you don’t qualify for the free NHS jab,” he said.

Shattered Space takes place in a small section of a single planet[/caption]

Starfield was fairly well received, but compared to Bethesda’s previous works, fans felt it was a disappointment.

It still found a dedicated fan base, and these people were excited to try out the first major expansion, Shattered Space.

However, it’s been about a week since the DLC’s release and the outlook isn’t good.

Shattered Space takes place entirely on one planet, which fans thought would give them a break from the endless planet-hopping of the base game.

Not only is it on one planet, but also a tiny part of that planet in what feels like a desperate backpedal from Bethesda.

People complained about Starfield’s procedural generation, and so everything in Shattered Space is apparently handcrafted, but only four hours long.

These changes don’t play to Starfield’s strengths, and there was a lot to love about the base game.

There isn’t any space combat or a single piece of customisation for its ship; things that led to Starfield’s most memorable moments.

Shattered Space puts the space to one side to focus on a single faction quest that promises to reveal the secrets behind Starfield’s most mysterious race.

These people worship a giant space snake, but the DLC seems as if it doesn’t want to offend the members of this made-up religion.

This leads to some tedious writing with extremely boring characters. Most scenes are finding a person, listening to them talking at length and then repairing the process.

Missions can only be started after around 20 minutes of preamble, which feels like it should have been cut.

The choices are also very surface-level, and while it seems to follow three branching paths, by the end you’ll notice they didn’t make a difference.

One of the main issues is that it feels self-contained like it doesn’t relate at all to things you do in the base game.

The lack of new loot also means that you’re not incentivised to play more after you finish the main quest.

There are six new weapons, including one that emits explosive electric orbs, and another one that is a handheld plasma minigun.

But with just a few new enemies, they’re not particularly fun to use.

The side quests do feel worth doing, and one rewards you with a legendary armor set, and beyond that there is a wider star system to explore.

However, unlike the effort that has gone into Dazra, these are procedurally generated.

Shattered Space is a very limited expansion that betrays what made Starfield great.

You’re stuck in just a few square miles, and though you can leave at any time, this is the purpose of the DLC.

It takes the wrong lessons from the mistakes of Starfield, and steers rapidly in the opposite direction.
