THE NORTHERN Lights dazzled stargazers across Britain last night – and there’s a chance you’ll be able to see them again soon.
People in northern Scotland are often best placed to see the aurora borealis – and last night was no exception – but the dazzling display was visible in other parts of the country too.

The dazzling lights were seen in the village of Lixwm, Flintshire[/caption]

A positive aurora sighting was logged between 9.45pm and 10pm near Inverness, Scotland last night.
Some light green lights were also seen in western Edinburgh, and one person posted a positive sighting as far south as Poole, at around 3am.
Dazzling images taken in North Tyneside, Flintshire and Northumberland also show the dazzling green and pink lights recently lighting up the skies.
Scientists at Lancaster University who run the monitoring website AuroraWatch UK posted a “Red alert” on X at 1.21am this morning, saying aurora was “likely”.
An “Amber alert” – meaning the aurora was “possible” – was posted at 7.21am today.
Aurora borealis were spotted across in all four nations over the weekend, following several displays visible from British skies already this year.
It comes after a coronal mass ejection (CMEs) erupted from an active sun spot recently.
Flares and solar eruptions can impact radio communications, electric power grids, navigation signals, and pose risks to spacecraft and astronauts.
This flare is classified as an X9.0 flare. According to Nasa, X-class denotes the most intense flares, while the number provides more information about its strength.
Last night was likely the last chance to see Northern Lights from this current eruption, but more are likely in the coming weeks and months as the sun approaches solar maximum.
Met Office spokesperson Andrea Bishop earlier told The Sun: “There is a slight chance of seeing aurora across the north of Scotland during Monday night and into Tuesday morning, depending on cloud cover.
“This is due to ongoing Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) affects chiefly, from an arrival on Sunday.
“From [Tuesday] onwards, we expect to see a gradual reduction in the chances of aurora, with any activity likely to remain confined to northern Scotland if at all.”
She added: “The Sun goes through an 11-year solar cycle and at the moment, the Sun is approaching something called ‘solar maximum’ which is when it is most active and there is a higher chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis.
“Scientists only know if solar maximum has happened six months after the event.
“Current predictions suggest we could reach solar maximum at the end of 2024 or early 2025.”
Auroras – how do they work?
Here’s the official explanation from Nasa…
The dancing lights of the auroras provide spectacular views on the ground, but also capture the imagination of scientists who study incoming energy and particles from the sun
Auroras are one effect of such energetic particles.
These particles can speed out from the sun from giant eruptions known as coronal mass ejections or CMEs and solar flares, explosions of radiation on the sun
After a trip toward Earth that can last two to three days, the solar particles and magnetic fields cause the release of particles already trapped near Earth, which in turn trigger reactions in the upper atmosphere in which oxygen and nitrogen molecules release photons of light

LUCAS PAQUETA’S old phone is behind two new FA charges in his betting case — that could mean a life ban.
The West Ham star handed in his mobile to the FA 12 months ago — after they began investigating suspicious betting patterns surrounding four of his Premier League bookings.
Lucas Paqueta is facing a lifetime ban from football[/caption]
The Brazilian scored his second goal of the season in the 4-1 win over Ipswich on the weekend[/caption]
During that period, Paqueta bought a replacement handset.
But, after the FA returned his original phone, he threw it out in a fateful decision that has added to his rap sheet.
SunSport has learned that at a later date the FA went back to the Brazil playmaker to ask for more access to his phone as there were further details their investigating team wanted to check — but he was unable to locate it.
As a result the FA accused him of obstructing their probe with the charges issued in May, including two aggravated breaches for non-cooperation.
In addition, the 27-year-old was charged with two breaches of FA Rule F3, which relate to his mobile phone.
SunSport also revealed on Sunday that Paqueta’s hearing is expected to take place next March, although a verdict is unlikely to be reached until the summer — so he is free to play for the rest of the season.
As previously revealed by SunSport, the FA are pushing for Paqueta to be banned for LIFE, despite one of the bets placed on him worth just £7.
Around 60 people in Brazil wagered bets on the Irons star to be booked in the relevant games, with the stakes ranging from £7 to £400, leading to combined winnings of £100,000.
Paqueta strongly denies any wrongdoing.
But the ongoing case has affected his form at West Ham this term — though he did score in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Ipswich.
His goal came in the 69th minute to finish the scoring for the hosts as he tapped home after some brilliant work by Jarrod Bowen to create the chance.
The FA declined to comment on the case.
The FOUR games Paqueta has been charged for
LUCAS PAQUETA has been charged by the FA over four specific games...
FIRST INCIDENT – West Ham 0-2 Leicester, 60th minute
The Brazilian was booked for lunging into Leicester’s Boubakary Soumare from behind.
After initially playing the advantage, referee Jarred Gillett eventually pulled it back and brandished the yellow.
SECOND INCIDENT – West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa, 70th minute
Four months later against Aston Villa Paqueta slid into John McGinn inside the centre circle, completely missing the ball and instead catching his legs.
THIRD INCIDENT – West Ham 3-1 Leeds, 65th minute
At the end of the 2022-23 campaign against Leeds at the London Stadium Paqueta tripped Crysencio Summerville from behind.
The foul prevented the visitors from breaking on the counter attack.
FOURTH INCIDENT – Bournemouth 1-1 West Ham, 93rd minute
With just a few minutes remaining on the opening day of the season, Paqueta jumped up for an aerial challenge but instead handled the ball.
The referee, who was standing directly in front of him, was quick to brandish the yellow.

MIKEY Lewis had it from the moment he walked into Hull KR, Mose Masoe – one of the Robins’ biggest legends – has revealed.
And their first Grand Final appearance is a living example of the saying, ‘Good things happen to good people.’
Talismanic half back Lewis has inspired Willie Peters’ men to Old Trafford and is favourite to be named Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel tonight.
But Masoe, the hulking prop whose career ended with an injury that almost left him completely paralysed, knew he had it the moment he saw him.
He recalled: “It’s like a David v Goliath match up but I always knew Mikey had something special.
“He was eager to learn and has that bit of swagger about him, he knows what he can bring.
“I was there when he joined and was coming through our academy – he was 15 or 16 – but he came into first team training and you could just tell he had something.
“Some kids are talented, but he had the hunger as well. I always knew he was going to go far.”

Hull KR are riding a wave of emotion as they head to Old Trafford to face Wigan on Saturday, aiming to end a 39-year trophy drought – seven years after Masoe joined them when they were in the Championship.
The Theatre of Dreams may have seemed a million miles away at that point but owner Neil Hudgell has masterminded a build that has resulted in their big day, a year after reaching Wembley.
And the way the club reacted after the freak incident that saw a ligament in his neck snap and block his spinal cord, leaving him temporarily paralysed, as he made a regulation tackle backs up his feeling it is deserved.
He can also deliver a lesson in how to beat Wigan at Old Trafford after doing it with St Helens in 2014, although getting one of their players sent off – like Ben Flower was – is not part of it.
He added: “When I came to the club, we’d been relegated, got back up and had a couple of years fighting relegation. We were just happy to be in Super League but we were slowly building.
“Every year, we were just getting that little bit better and there are too many good people at the club for it not to be successful.
“Neil has put so much in, not just financially but he’s been setting them up, not just for tomorrow but for years to come.
“It’s great to see it pay off for people like him but they’ll have to go toe-to-toe with Wigan. Even in 2014, when they played with 12 men for 75 minutes, it still took all 13 of us to beat them.
“So try to grind them out, then players like Mikey can do their stuff when the forwards start to tire.
“And I’ve noticed this year that Rovers like to grind teams, which is probably something Willie has brought to them and that’s really good to see.”
After suffering a career-ending, life-changing injury in January 2020, just being upright, moving and playing a part in family life should be enough.
But the big man with even bigger determination is back and working – as an Uber driver on Australia’s Sunshine Coast!
The 35-year-old also delivers wellbeing talks in rural Australia as he told SunSport: “I’ve been doing it for five months now, a few days here and there. I absolutely love it.
“It’s fun. I meet people, have a conversation and get out of the house. I’m still using crutches to walk – I can without them but if I fell, it will be really hard to get back up – but getting back to work has been great for me.
“And I’m giving wellbeing talks in rural Australia. I speak about my career experiences and how I helped myself after my injury, to help with their wellbeing and getting back to work, which is a big issue.”

What is the viral dog ghost trend?
The viral dog ghost trend sees pet owners dress their dogs up as ghosts for the spooky season.
The adorable photos are a hit online, and require pet owners to place a white sheet with eye cutouts over their furry friend.
The videos and photos are then posted up on TikTok for everyone to enjoy.
It’s a great way to get the whole family involved and the memories will last a lifetime.
If you hop on TikTok, you will see hundreds of pet owners dressing up their furry best friends as Caspar the friendly ghost.
So make like Scooby-Doo and jump on this cute Halloween trend.
When did the viral TikTok trend start?
The Ghost Photoshoot trend, as it’s known over on TikTok, started back in 2020 with social media users dressing up as ghouls.
While the human trend quickly died off, the pet trend kicked off.
The new #ghostphotoshoot trend involves dogs dressing up in sheets, with the obligatory soundtrack Oh Klahoma by Jack Stauber.
The trend went viral after an Italian Greyhound called Nola was snapped as a spooky ghost on social media sites including Instagram.
The original post received more than 75 million views – sparking the trend as we know it.
How to get your pooch involved
If you’d like to sign your dog up to all the Halloween fun, all you need is a white bed sheet, camera, social media account and a copy of that song.
But before you get started, make sure your paw pal is comfortable with a large sheet placed over their head.
Timid or nervous dogs won’t love having a sheet placed on them and might get stressed.
Cutting holes of eyes, ears and muzzles will help stop them from feeling claustrophobic.
However some breeds may display more aggressive temperaments so it’s important to recognize any negative behaviors and stop if they show signs of discomfort.
