Next Man Utd manager: Southgate and Potter would be WORSE than Ten Hag as clear top candidate once eyed by rival emerges

THE best candidate for the Manchester United manager’s job has been identified.

But top options Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter would both be WORSE than current boss Erik ten Hag.

Dutchman Ten Hag is clinging on to his position as Old Trafford chief after going five matches without a win.

And now data gurus Carteret Analytics have crunched the numbers and worked out who would be the ideal fit to take the reins at United.

And it is Ruben Amorim who comes out at the top of the pile.

Ironically, the Sporting Lisbon boss was a target for arch rivals Liverpool when they replaced Jurgen Klopp before settling on Arne Slot.

But now, if United’s chiefs look at the numbers, he could be approached for the potential vacancy at Old Trafford.

Amorim was handed a top score when the numbers were crunched.

The data analysts show Amorim scoring extremely highly for ‘Strategic Intelligence’, a measure that looks at a manager’s ability to set their team up for victory. He also scored incredibly high for his ability to transform matches during games.

Those attributes put him clear of Zinedine Zidane in second with the ex-Real Madrid boss pipping Simone Inzaghi on the podium.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

Thomas Tuchel has already been linked with replacing Ten Hag and the German comes up as the fourth best candidate for Manchester United in the data.

Kieran McKenna – the Ipswich boss who was previously a coach at United – is fifth, just narrowly edging out Ten Hag’s current No2 Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Interestingly, Ten Hag is said to be the seventh-best fit for the Red Devils.

That places him directly above free agent Southgate, who is admired by the Ineos bosses and is available after quitting from his role as England gaffer following the Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.

Southgate scored particularly poorly in the ‘Tactical Command’ measure. This looks at a manager’s ability to transform a match during the game – something many England fans who felt he was too often tactically outwitted will concur with.

Former Brighton and Chelsea boss Potter, still out of work and now starting life as a pundit, is next in ninth.

Middlesbrough’s Michael Carrick, Roberto De Zerbi of Marseille and finally Brentford boss Thomas Frank complete the list of the 12 managers who were looked at.

Carteret Analytics, quantitative analysis experts who have built a series of algorithms that utilise a huge amount of raw data, looked at a number of areas.

Objective achievement, strategic intelligence, tactical command, attacking coefficient, shot creation and conversion, possession and formations over the past six seasons were all taken into consideration.

When Ten Hag was first employed by Manchester United, their analysis correctly warned fans of the Red Devils not to expect all out attacking play, and that rather than have a specific style, he adapted his tactics match-by-match.

Their latest number crunching now indicates where Manchester United should turn next.

Amorim came out strongly across the board, particularly in strategic intelligence, tactical command, attacking coefficient and shot conversion.

a manchester united poster shows the best fit for man utd

That relates to his ability to set up his teams to win matches and make transformations within games to impact results.

His high attacking coefficient would tap into the United “attack, attack, attack” mantra.

Incredibly, Ten Hag does not outperform Amorim in any one of the metrics that were analysed.

Zidane presents the best option of the gaffers currently without a job while McKenna and Van Nistelrooy both have Old Trafford connections.

And although Inzaghi is third on the list and largely beats Ten Hag in most areas, he does play a far more defensive style of football that may not be popular with the United hierarchy and fans.

Amorin’s preferred 3-4-3 formation would be a shake-up from the 4-2-3-1 under Ten Hag.

With the Manchester United hierarchy meeting this week to discuss their options, the data suggests they could improve on Ten Hag, but they must be careful because things could get even worse.

Why NOBODY is the right man to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd

SunSport's DAVE KIDD says Erik ten Hag's time at Man Utd is up… and explains what's wrong with all the potential candidates to replace him.

THIS is a mid-table squad at an underachieving club, with a lot of unwanted players on big money.

And Ratcliffe is an instinctive cost-cutter who may not pay top dollar to the next manager.

If this club wasn’t called ‘Manchester United’, it wouldn’t be an especially desirable job.

The good news for United is that their new sporting director, Dan Ashworth, is a very decent judge of a manager.

He has been instrumental in three previous managerial appointments — Gareth Southgate for England, Graham Potter for Brighton and Eddie Howe for Newcastle.

None were wildly popular at the time, all were conspicuous successes.

Interestingly, Ashworth’s No 1 choice for the Newcastle job was Unai Emery, who turned him down to stay at Villarreal but has since proved that judgment right by excelling at Aston Villa.

Emery may well deliver the coup de grace to Ten Hag on Sunday — especially with Bruno Fernandes suspended and Kobbie Mainoo an injury doubt.

And the Spaniard would be an excellent fit for United — yet there is next to no chance that he would abandon Villa’s Champions League campaign to take the Old Trafford job, not least because he isn’t a stark raving madman.

Howe would be another good candidate to succeed Ten Hag but, although he has become frustrated on Tyneside, the Saudis would surely not allow Ratcliffe to poach Howe, as they reluctantly did with Ashworth.

Potter is available but his Chelsea experience and lack of charisma would make him a tough sell.

Which brings us to Southgate, who remains close with Ashworth and is an excellent man-manager who was seriously considered by United last spring.

Yet, despite having led England to two of their three major finals, Southgate’s reputation for over-caution was only enhanced during the Euros.

Mauricio Pochettino, passed over twice by United, is out of the equation having taken the United States job.

Thomas Tuchel would be a popular and gettable option but, despite being a fine coach and a very engaging man, he is considered something of a loose cannon.

Likewise, Roberto De Zerbi, now at Marseille after his brief Brighton stint sparkled then fizzled out.

Kieran McKenna — a gifted former United coach who has won back-to-back promotions with Ipswich Town — is an intriguing candidate but the imminent vacancy may come a year or so too soon.

Marco Silva, the extremely under-rated Fulham boss, has been on United’s radar and should not be discounted.

Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, last season’s ‘next big thing’, was passed over by West Ham as well as Liverpool this summer and is not an easy man to pin down.

Zinedine Zidane, who has taken over from Alan Curbishley as a 20-1 shot for every Premier League job, is a ‘figurehead’ manager and not an Ashworth type.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, the former United goal machine who joined Ten Hag’s coaching team in the summer is the bookies’ favourite. Simply because he’s in the building and he’s Dutch.

So, yes, getting rid of Ten Hag is the easy part.

My ‘fun’ opinion-sharing side hustle made me ‘$60 richer’ in just 20 minutes and it was ‘really easy’

A SIDE hustle that only takes minutes to complete could make you some quick cash.

The unique job requires minimal effort and virtually no expertise, but hasn’t been discussed much.

TikTok/alisontalksmoney
A TikToker’s 20-minute side hustle has the potential to make $60 in minutes[/caption]

They were only asked to give their thoughts on a cat product (stock image)[/caption]

“This is a side hustle I’ve heard practically no one talk about,” TikToker and finance influencer Alison (@alistontalksmoney) noted in a recent video.

It involves providing your opinion through a focus group, something many brands will set up to improve sales of a product or service.

The brands will pay members of the group for their time and thoughts.

Alison said she signed up to take part in a focus group involving cat food and documented her journey through the process as much as she could.

“It’s 20 minutes, and I’m making 60 bucks,” she told viewers.

In the clip, Alison could be seen walking into a building and signing in before being taken back to a room.

While she couldn’t reveal much about what happened due to a non-disclosure agreement, Alison was able to tell viewers that she was given “vision tracking goggles” and went through a “simulated shopping experience.”

She was instructed to look at a few pictures that appeared and answered questions before leaving with $60 in cash.

Alison called the experience “really easy, interesting, and fun.”

“I would totally do something like this again,” she expressed.

EXPERT ASSISTANCE

To get started, the finance influencer recommended viewers check out One Click Hustle, a website that helps those interested in making money through the gig find focus groups and product testing.

For $30 per month, subscribers get access to a detailed job board with “thousands of research studies and product tests.”

There’s also a subscription level at $45 a month with extra features to help with mastering the side hustle as a consistent passive income stream.

One Click Hustle claims on average that those who participate in at least five focus groups make around $750 from them.

Side hustles and tax implications

Extra income you make from side hustles may need to be reported to the IRS.

If you receive more than $600 in gross payouts from a selling platform like eBay, the site will issue you a Form 1099-K to use in your tax return.

Individuals should calculate their adjusted gross income, taxable earnings, and deductions for the year.

Once they have that, they can use the 1040-ES form to calculate estimated taxes.

An estimate of $1,500 for 10 focus groups was also estimated.

Those who are uninterested in a membership could do thorough research for available focus groups on their own as well.

OTHER OPTIONS

If it doesn’t sound right for you, there are a few other simple side hustles that require a bit more time but can be considerably more lucrative.

A writing gig that only requires your laptop could help you earn $192 per hour, for example.

If you’re a dog person, it might be worth checking out a walking and babysitting business that could get you $600 per day.

A woman has even made around $1,000 extra per month by doing others’ laundry.

Former Iowa star Gabbie Marshall fires back at old teammate Caitlin Clark following Angel Reese and WNBA award bust-up

EX-IOWA Hawkeyes guard Gabbie Marshall responded to Caitlin Clark’s social media message.

Marshall’s response came after Clark and Reese’s WNBA Rookie of the Year award controversy.

A WNBA star for the Indiana Fever, Clark saw her fame rise during her tenure with Iowa.

She became the NCAA‘s all-time leading scorer and led the Hawkeyes to two straight national champion appearances.

Clark was a teammate of Marshall, who retired from basketball following her college career.

On Sunday, Marshall went to see the Cincinnati Bengals lose 41-38 to the Baltimore Ravens in overtime.

The Bengals posted a photo of Marshall looking animated at a tailgate party outside of Paycor Stadium on Instagram.

Clark noticed the post and posted, “Spirit animal” on her Instagram story along with “Go Chiefs” to ruffle some feathers.

Marshall wasn’t afraid to reply with her own team’s chant.

“WHO DEY!!!!!” the 24-year-old wrote.

Marshall appeared in 166 games for Iowa between the 2019 and 2024 seasons.

She averaged 6.6 points along with 1.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 27.7 minutes per game.

Marshall’s response came after Clark was named WNBA Rookie of the Year.

However, she won 66 of the 67 total votes – with only one vote for Angel Reese preventing a unanimous win.

Clark and Reese have a rivalry that dates back to their college days.

And analysts and fans took issue with Clark not receiving all 67 total votes in the award due to her superior year as well as Reese’s season ending early due to injury.

Clark had 19.2 points per game compared to Reese’s 13.6.

She also led her rival in assists per game with 8.4 to 1.9.

Reese was the better rebounder, averaging 13.1 per game to 5.7.

Clark saw her first season end after her Fever lost to the Connecticut Sun in the playoffs last month.

After receiving the award, Clark revealed a message to her fans.

“I am incredibly honored to be named Rookie of the Year,” she said.

“But more than that, I am grateful to everyone that supported me throughout this past season.

“My family and friends, my teammates, the Fever organization and everyone that cheered us on all season.

“I am so proud of what we accomplished and so excited for what the future holds.”

Satellite pics show paranoid Putin has mysteriously DEMOLISHED one of his beloved palace amid Ukraine drone strike fears

VLADIMIR Putin has mysteriously demolished one of his most beloved palaces amid claims the paranoid tyrant is scared of being targeted by a Ukrainian drone.

Satellite images show how Putin’s pricey Bocharov Ruchey palace which overlooks the Black Sea in Sochi has been bulldozed with just a patch of empty land left behind.

Reports say Vlad is ‘truly afraid’ of being killed in a kamikaze drone strike hence why the palace was bulldozed[/caption]

An investigation by the Russian opposition news site Proekt has revealed that the palace may have torn down because Vlad is “truly afraid” of being killed in a kamikaze drone strike.

It is believed it was decimated by the dictator back in February or March of this year.

In recent years Putin has frequently visited the Stalin-designed holiday home but in the last few months he has completely neglected Sochi due to Ukraine‘s position in the Krasnodar region.

Drones have targeted several areas in Sochi since Putin’s invasion back in February 2022.

Mainly blasting oil depots nearby to the tyrant’s lair.

Putin even started to deploy missiles to his favourite mansion due to the drone attacks back in November 2023.

The 190,000 square foot, billion dollar home northwest  in Gelendzhik is fully equipped with everything the dictator could need in all circumstances.

It has its own church, wine cellar, casino, hookah lounge, stripper pole, arboretum, ice rink and intense security systems.

Not only is it sealed off from the public by 17,000 acres of woodland and a no-fly zone overhead, but the autocrat also has a complex tunnel system designed for his safety.

The tunnels are supplied with fresh water, are well ventilated, and have the ability to withstand a nuclear blast.

Putin used to spend his summers in Sochi with him known to direct the Kremlin from the home in the past.

Many even saw it as Putin’s personal love nests as he shared it with secret partner Alina Kabaeva, 41, and their two young children, Ivan, nine, and Vladimir Junior, five.

The new satellite pictures show how the spot where the mansion used to sit has now been reduced to a decimated earth pit.

Russia is yet to confirm the building has been demolished despite the images.

The Proekt report who found the images stated: “The [Bocharov Ruchey ] building was demolished to the ground.

“A lot of questions remain.

“First of all, why did a luxurious residence need to be demolished given it had been renovated 10 years ago?

“The answer is, probably, obvious – because of [Ukrainian] drone attacks, the president is afraid of being on the Black Sea coast of Krasnodar region.

“In 2023, Putin felt a threat to his physical safety and got scared.

“A Putin acquaintance confirmed to Proekt that the president is truly afraid to fly south.”

Despite many claiming the despot tore the house down over safety concerns others say it could be a more tactical move from Russia.

One theory says that Putin has demolished the palace using the war as an excuse so he can build a new and more luxurious mansion in a similar area.

The new development could have a superior bunker facilities for the paranoid ruler in case he loses the war or becomes a target for the West and nuclear weapons.

It comes as a mystery fire gutted part of Putin’s other mountain palace said to be home to a sprawling nuclear bunker for his secret family.

The inferno ripped through a building at the Altai Mountain bolthole – where Putin once entertained former Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi.

Putin's secret boltholes

TYRANT Vladimir Putin has been linked to a number of secretive homes and palaces.

  • Palace in a billionaire’s village outside Moscow
  • Putin’s secret Black Sea pad
  • A holiday home in Vyborg Bay
  • Lakehouse near St Petersburg
  • Altai Mountains estate

His state residences include Novo-Ogaryevo, the Kremlin, Bocharov Ruchey in Sochi and his Valdai residence.

‘Longest-living Benjamin Button disease sufferer’, 28, who spent his life trying to find a cure for rare condition dies

THE world’s longest-living survivor of ‘Benjamin Button disease’ who spent his life searching for a cure has died.

Sammy Basso, aged just 28, was diagnosed with the rare genetic disease progeria.

The condition causes sufferers to age rapidly and appear older than they are.

People with progeria generally appear healthy at birth, but symptoms such as slowed growth, loss of fat tissue, and hair loss begin to appear in their first year.

The average life expectancy for an individual with progeria is about 15 years.

Sammy, from the northern Italian region of Veneto, is believed to be the longest-living survivor of the rare genetic disease.

He was diagnosed with the disease aged just over two years old and founded the Italian Progeria Sammy Basso Association with the help of his parents aged 10.

He dedicated his life to raising awareness about the disease, appearing in the the National Geographic documentary “Sammy’s Journey”.

He even wrote his graduate thesis on the possibility of curing progeria through genetic engineering.

Sammy was having dinner with family and friends on the evening of October 5 when he suddenly felt unwell.

Emergency medics were dispatched to the restaurant and tried to resuscitate the young biologist, but their efforts were in vain.

Just a few weeks before his death in Asolo, north-eastern Italy, he had returned from a trip to China.

And the evening before his passing, he was awarded the Paolo Rizzi Journalism Prize in the “Environment and Society” category in Venice.

The organisers cited “his willpower, spirit of sacrifice, and the courage that sustains him”.

Sammy was born in Thiene on 1 December 1995 and lived in Tezze sul Brenta.

In 2005, he founded the Italian Progeria Association to spread knowledge about his condition and to encourage research into it.

He graduated from the University of Padua with a degree in Natural Sciences in 2018.

In 2019, he was made a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by President Sergio Mattarella.

He graduated again from the University of Padua in 2021 with a master’s degree in Molecular Biology.

What is progeria?

Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria is a very rare genetic disease that affects one in every 8 million people born.

It’s caused by a mutation in one of the two copies of the LMNA gene.

The mutation causes every cell in the body to malfunction.

People with progeria undergo rapid ageing and have distinct physical characteristics, including:

  • Hair loss
  • Prominent eyes
  • Aged, wrinkled skin
  • A thin, beaked nose
  • Disproportionately small face compared to head size
  • Loss of fat under the skin

There are currently only 130 cases of progeria recognised worldwide, of which four in Italy.

However, this number is underestimated as cases of progeria are often difficult to trace.

Progeria is always fatal.

On average, people with the condition survive 14.5 years, although some adults with progeria will live into their early 20s.

A drug called lonafarnib has been shown to slow down the progression of the disease.

Source: Italian Progeria Sammy Basso Association, Cleveland Clinic

His thesis explored the correlation between progeria and inflammation.

His dream was to work at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

Progeria is not hereditary and is instead caused by a mutation in the LMNA gene.

The mutation likely occurs in a single sperm or egg immediately before conception.

There are about 70 children with the disorder worldwide, most of whom will die from heart problems or strokes.

Basso is survived by his parents, who said: “We are deeply grateful for the privilege of having shared part of our journey with him.

“He taught all of us that, even though life’s obstacles may sometimes seem insurmountable, it’s worth living it fully.”

On Sunday, Grigg’s husband Cameron shared a devastating Instagram post announcing that his wife was “gone from this world.”

“Even though her earthly body may have failed her, her memory and life will be carried on forever,” he said, announcing she would be an organ donor.

“We know her spirit is in heaven dancing in the streets made of gold with all her beauty and grace.”

Neither Grigg nor Cameron explained exactly what illness the influencer suffered from, but she did open up about the horrific symptoms it caused.

Grigg, who had 1.4 million followers on TikTok, spoke out about her condition in August after fans noticed she hadn’t acted like herself.

She said she couldn’t “fake a smile” anymore as her illness had left her unable to walk to the mailbox or carry a suitcase.

“I feel like I’m fighting for life every day,” she said.

“When I didn’t know what was wrong with me, I’d be in bed writhing with pain, just wishing to be dead.

“I don’t feel that way now, but I feel like I have to fight to live.”

Grigg explained that she once loved sports and living an active lifestyle, but her illness had rendered her unable to run.

“I love who I am, and I’m trying to find myself,” she said.

“I haven’t been myself in a long time.”

In June, Grigg explained why she wasn’t going to disclose any details about her condition.

In a question-and-answer video, she said TikTok and the internet were “horrible” places to discuss health as everyone wants to chime in and tell her how to treat her illness.
