Kim Tate's biggest Emmerdale storylines
First appearing in 1989, Kim Tate (Claire King) is an iconic Emmerdale character. Here's a look at some of her biggest storylines over the years.
MARRIAGE TO FRANK TATE
Kim has been married three times in the soap, but her first, volatile pairing was with Frank Tate (Norman Bowler)
They were an on-screen partnership for almost a decade – including divorcing and remarrying.
However, Frank ultimately suffered a fatal heart attack, brought on by Kim’s return to the village after being presumed dead.
During the marriage, Kim had affairs with Neil Kincaid (Brian Deacon) and Dave Glover (Ian Kelsey).
FAKING HER OWN DEATH
Kim disappeared from the village in February 1997. A few days later, Frank identified a woman found dead at the wheel of her car as Kim.
However, everyone was in for a shock after Kim revealed she was still alive – and the full extent of her plan.
While she’d fled to the Caribbean, Kim had paid a lookalike prostitute to drive her car around the village to fool people into thinking she was still there. It was, in fact, her body that Frank previously identified.
JAMES’ KIDNAPPING
Kim’s business partnership with Lord Alex Oakwell (Rupam Maxwell), resulted in the death of Linda Fowler (Tonicha Jeronimo), in a car crash.
As an act of revenge, Linda’s mother Jan (Roberta Kerr) kidnapped Kim’s son James.
DEPARTURE
After a decade of causing chaos, Kim left Emmerdale in 1999 as she fled in a helicopter with her son James and £190,000 of Chris Tate’s money.
LATER MARRIAGES
Upon Kim’s return in 2018, she was first revealed to be married to Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough).
However, he was later killed off in a whodunnit storyline.
She later pursued a relationship with her employee Will Taylor (Dean Andrews), marrying him in 2022.
Emmerdale airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.

We previously revealed that the 78-year-old legendary actress is to leave the long-running ITV soap as a full-time cast member.
Evelyn Plummer’s exit storyline has been revealed[/caption]She has played the role of Evelyn Plummer since September 2018 when she made a bombshell entrance on Coronation Street.
The character was introduced as the grandmother of Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) when Dame Maureen made her full-time debut.
However, the legendary actress exclusively told The Sun that she’s taking a step back from the cobbles to “enjoy life.”
Now, the characters exit has been confirmed as she starts to become disillusioned with life in Weatherfield.
She will complain to her best pal Roy (David Neilson) that her world lacks purpose.
He will then suggest that she should study for a law degree.
This was after Steve agreed to pay Evelyn the £325 that she insisted he owed her.
Previously, Alya invited Evelyn to a criminal law lecture at the Chariot Street hotel.
When she got to the meet and greet table at the event, Evelyn was so keen to attend that she stole someone else’s name badge.
Inspired by all her experiences, she then goes about filling in an online form to apply for university back at number nine.
She then tells her grandson Tyrone that she has gone ahead with the application to read law at an educational institution.
But when she receives a text that invites her for an interview, Evelyn is thrown into a complete panic.
However, when she arrives at the university for her grilling, she will be met with a huge surprise.
The interviewer is none other than Marjorie Tavistock, the very same person that she impersonated at the Chariot Square law lecture.
Is her dream over or will she be able to attend university?

JEAN Slater is set for further heartbreak in upcoming EastEnders scenes.
The beloved character – played by Gillian Wright – unfortunately fell victim to a scam in recent weeks.
Jean Slater is set for fresh heartbreak in upcoming EastEnders scenes[/caption] The beloved character recently fell victim to a cruel scam[/caption] Jean has had to face the horrifying reality of her situation[/caption]In scenes yet to air, Jean’s emotional aftermath continues after getting further bad news.
The soap legend has to push forward despite the horrifying situation.
She was previously seen investing her life savings and pensions with a cold calling operation.
However, Jean was soon left heartbroken upon realising she had lost everything.
Left feeling helpless after this nightmare, she was relieved when a solicitor revealed they could get the money back.
Stacey (Lacey Turner) was still concerned about her mother’s situation and asked Jack (Scott Maslen) to help.
EastEnders worked with experts in the field including independent scams expert Nick Stapleton, The Pensions Regulator and Stop Scams UK on the storyline.
Meanwhile, the story continues as Jean deals with the emotional and practical fallout of the crime.
EastEnders Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw outlined the storyline’s intentions.
He explained: “Jean’s story will highlight the extreme strategies scammers use to gain a victim’s trust to convince them into parting with serious sums of money.
“Not only will Jean have to cope with losing her pension money, but she’ll also have to deal with a range of difficult emotions as she tells her family and friends what’s happened.”
Nick Stapleton, scams expert and BBC Scam Safe spokesperson, added: “I am incredibly happy to see the issue of scams and fraud getting the attention it deserves with a storyline on one of the nation’s favourite soaps.
“Scams are one of the greatest challenges of modern times; not just the money we lose to scammers as a country, but the emotional and psychological impact for those who go through one.
Jean Slater's biggest EastEnders storylines
Gillian Wright has played Jean Slater on EastEnders since December 2005.
The star was only supposed to be a guest-character in a storyline with her on-screen daughter Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), who would struggle to look after her.
However she soon became a regular on Albert Square and has since been involved in some major storylines.
Jean is known among the square for having bipolar disorder and issues with her mental health. The first storyline involved Stacey getting help as she was forced to check her into a psychiatric hospital for her own safety.
After her first departure in 2010, she made a dramatic comeback where she was put in the centre of a major storyline.
She embarked on an unlikely relationship with Michael Moon (Steve John Shepherd), however he tricks her to give him a large sum of money. As a result, she becomes the prime suspect of the murder of Heather Trott (Cheryl Fergison) before he scams her again to pay for his wedding to Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks).
The actress decides to leave the soap again in 2013, so bosses decided to introduce actor Tony O’Callaghan as love interest Ollie Walters. After he confesses his love for her, she then moves down to Brighton with him.
After several guest returns, she made a full-time comeback in 2018 alongside Kat (Jessie Wallace) and Mo (Laila Morse). She was later put at the centre of a major storyline when she was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer.
“It’s high time we brought that fully into the mainstream and EastEnders is leading the way.”
It’s been a tough year for Jean – who also experienced turmoil in her relationship with Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman).
Will she have a quieter time in the New Year?
EastEnders continues on BBC One and iPlayer.
Will Jean have a less stressful time in the coming months?[/caption]Exact date Universal Credit and PIP payments to land in bank accounts this month due to major change
HOUSEHOLDS claiming benefits such as Universal Credit and PIP can expect to be paid early this month because of the Christmas holidays.
This type of financial support is usually paid once a month, but Bank Holidays such as Christmas Day can disrupt the schedule.
The festive period disrupts the days that cliaments of Universal Credit get paid.[/caption]The fast-approaching holiday means millions of benefit claimants will not be paid on their usual dates over Christmas and New Years.
If you are due to be paid on a Bank Holiday, you can expect to see the cash land in your bank account earlier than expected.
You should receive the money the first working day before you were expecting to have been paid.
So, if you are usually paid on December 25, 26 or 27 you will be paid on December 24 instead.
That is because the last working day before the holidays is Tuesday, December 24.
The New Year bank holiday on January 1 also impacts benefit claimants.
If you are due to receive your benefit on January 1, you will be paid on December 31.
The Department for Work and Pensions said a total of 11 benefits will be impacted by the change. They are as follows:
- Attendance allowance
- Carer’s allowance
- Disability living allowance
- Income support
- Jobseekers allowance
- Pension credit
- Personal independence payments (PIP)
- State pension
- Universal Credit
- Child benefit (paid by HMRC)
- Tax credits (paid by HMRC)
You should be aware that the amount you get paid will not change,
Even though you have been paid a few days early, you will also have to make the money last until the following month.
If you think you were supposed to be paid, but the money has not landed in your account, it may be worth double checking the dates.
If the money has not been paid into your account, you should contact the DWP.
You can reach its Universal Credit helpline on 0800 328 5644.
Changes to Universal Credit
Universal Credit is replacing six benefits under the old welfare system, commonly called legacy benefits. They are:
- Working Tax Credit
- Child Tax Credit
- Income-based Jobseeker’s allowance
- Income support
- Income-related employment and support allowance
- Housing Benefit.
If you’re on any of these benefits now, you can choose to move over – but you might not be better off.
You should consider carefully what moving over means for your money, as you can’t move back once you’re on Universal Credit.
Using an online benefits calculator can help you compare and are free and easy to use from charities such as Turn2Us and EntitledTo, and it’s also worth asking them for advice.
You may be moved over to Universal Credit if you have a change in circumstances, like moving home, a change in working hours or a have a baby.
But eventually, everyone will be moved over to Universal Credit.
Are you missing out on benefits?
YOU can use a benefits calculator to help check that you are not missing out on money you are entitled to
Charity Turn2Us’ benefits calculator works out what you could get.
Entitledto’s free calculator determines whether you qualify for various benefits, tax credit and Universal Credit.
MoneySavingExpert.com and charity StepChange both have benefits tools powered by Entitledto’s data.
You can use Policy in Practice’s calculator to determine which benefits you could receive and how much cash you’ll have left over each month after paying for housing costs.
Your exact entitlement will only be clear when you make a claim, but calculators can indicate what you might be eligible for.
