Strictly’s Carlos Gu breaks silence on not getting celeb partner this year as he admits he WAS expecting to be paired up
STRICTLY star Carlos Gu has opened up on not receiving a celebrity partner in the latest series.
The Chinese dancer and choreographer first joined the BBC show in 2022.
Strictly’s Carlos Gu has opened up about not having a partner for the 2024 series[/caption] In the star’s debut year, he partnered actress and singer Molly Rainford[/caption] The pair ultimately reached the final of that series[/caption]While Carlos has returned for the 2024 series, he is not partnering a celebrity this time around.
In previous series, he paired with EastEnders‘ Molly Rainford and TV presenter Angela Scanlon.
Speaking to Aimee Fuller on her Monday Mile podcast, Carlos discussed the benefits of not getting a celeb partner.
He said: “I’m still a part of the shows. I’m still doing the music act. I’m still doing some of the group numbers.
“If you are not in the competition, you have more free time, I think I’m just using my time wisely.
“We’re going to go husband hunting, you know, we’re going to improve our skills and learning.”
He added: “When the season starts, when you’re busy, your mind is literally on fire and twirling.
“You never really have the opportunity to really relax.
“I think I really need that this year. I think this is a good opportunity for me to be doing that, because through that I can learn something about myself that I didn’t know before.”
Meanwhile, the dancer told former Team GB winter Olympian Aimee how he doesn’t feel snubbed with the decision being “not necessarily personal”.
Carlos said: “Sometimes the decision is made [and it’s] not necessarily personal. It’s just because of the different perspectives, the different teams.
“Because we all want the show to look great. We all want this company, this production to look good.
“So, nothing is really personal. I think as long as you start to understand that, some of the decisions aren’t personal to you.”
The star’s first year on Strictly saw him and Molly Rainford reach the final.

OVER the last three decades, comedy duo Frank Skinner and David Baddiel have graced many a sofa.
Their bums were plonked on a settee for Nineties BBC classic Fantasy Football League and again on ITV talk show Baddiel And Skinner Unplanned.
Googlebox has reunited comedy legends David Baddiel and Frank Skinner for a charity special[/caption] David and Frank will be wearing more clothing on the Gogglebox sofa[/caption]But I can reveal the pair will finally be lounging about for a good cause as part of the Celebrity Gogglebox cast.
The lads will make their debut on the Channel 4 favourite this Friday in aid of Stand Up To Cancer.
Frank said: “It is an amazing cause and Dave and me, back on a sofa, seems a better deal than cycling up K2, carrying a fridge to Istanbul or any of that sweaty stuff people do for charity.”
David added: “I’m a big fan of Gogglebox, Stand Up To Cancer, and Frank Skinner, so this wasn’t a difficult yes.
“If we can raise awareness and cash to fight this terrible disease, it’s worth the huge effort of slumping in front of the screen with my old friend.”
The duo first met backstage at Jongleurs comedy club in 1990 but their friendship was cemented when they shared a flat during the Edinburgh Fringe two years on.
Now they live just 15 doors away from each other.
Frank recalled: “I’ve been watching TV with David Baddiel for about 30 years.
“The only TV I refused to watch with him was stuff featuring me.
“He never laughed enough.”
Celebrity Gogglebox for Stand Up To Cancer is available to watch and stream on Channel 4 at 9pm on Friday.
In the meantime, fans will be thrilled to see my exclusive pics of Baddiel and Skinner snuggled up on a chic, velvet sofa beside a reed diffuser and contemporary artwork.
I bet their Edinburgh digs were far less stylish .

A-LISTERS are lining up to be part of ITV’s new reality show, Shark! Celeb Infested Waters.
The plucky stars will swim with great whites in the Bahamas for the educational entertainment format, which will air next year and have a focus on marine conservation.
Bosses are teasing that the cast of the upcoming show will be the “Olympians” of the celeb world.
Karen Plumb from show producers Plimsoll Productions, said: “We’re looking at six or seven celebs.
“We’re lucky because we can cast a high calibre because people want to take part in something with a purpose.
“It’s a chance of a lifetime!
“These people are going to be diving with the most incredible sharks, with the best dive team and best natural history team.”
It makes facing Craig Revel Horwood sound like a walk in the park.

‘Why’d we only see holidays and shopping these days?’ fans slam mum-of-22 Sue Radford for trips that ‘most can’t afford’
THE Radford Family have come under fire for “always being on holiday” after sharing a 20 minute video from their £40,000 motorhome.
Britain’s biggest family, which consists of mum Sue, dad Noel and their 22 children, are famous for sharing insights into their unconventional life.
The Radford Family have come under fire for recent YouTube content[/caption] Mum-of-22 Sue has been accused of “only showing holidays and shopping” after sharing clips from her latest motorhome jolly[/caption]And following a YouTube vlog about her family’s latest weekend away, Sue was criticised for only showing “holidays and shopping”.
The Radford Family gained widespread attention through social media posts and TV shows, such as their Channel 5 series 22 Kids and Counting, that document their life as a massive ménage.
Part of their appeal was the insights into their day-to-day life – from running a household with so many children to managing the minutiae of everyday, such as finances, dinners and school runs.
But fans of the family, who jumped into the spotlight in 2012, feel they’ve lost their original relatability.
Taking to their YouTube channel last week, 49-year-old Sue showed how she was spending the morning in her motorhome with some of her youngest kids.
She had taken them on a weekend away while 53-year-old Noel was on a stag do.
Fans then criticised Sue for “only showing holidays and shopping these days”.
“Why do we only see holidays and shopping these days?” one questioned in the comments.
“I really miss the ‘day in the life’ videos that you used to do; days at home, birthdays, first days of school.
“They are much more relatable to holidays most of us can’t afford.”
Another rolled their eyes that the famous family are “always on holiday”.
That wasn’t the only thing people were raising concern about.
One viewer said: “I would hate to be in the caravan next to you.
“Imagine coming for a peaceful getaway and ending up next to you lot.”
How does family-of-22 the Radfords afford to live?
AS Britain’s biggest family, it may come as no surprise that Sue and Noel Radford must have some hefty bills.
Between them, they have a whopping 22 children and seven dogs, which often has some people wonder how they manage their money.
The Radfords support themselves with the proceeds of Noel’s bakery, The Radford Pie Company, which is located near their home.
On their website, it says: “We have owned our own lovely bakery since 1999 which is how we manage to provide for (and feed) our huge and expanding family as well as for the local people of Heysham and Morecambe.”
The family expanded their business to cater to online orders placed across the UK.
The business is a family affair, with Noel at the helm, and some of their children helping out.
The older kids, who are working at least part-time, don’t get a free ride as they’re made to pay a small amount of rent to their parents.
“Us older ones do pay a little bit of board. Granted it’s not a lot but I’m also trying to save up for my own house at the moment.” their daughter Chloe said in a video on the YouTube channel.
Sue added: “We’ve always said if you want to buy somewhere, renting is a bit of dead money, so we’d rather you saved that money up and stayed at home a bit longer.
“I also do believe they should pay board if they are earning. We’ve always been brought up by our parents that we had to pay board.”
Noel and Sue famously don’t rely on benefits for their bumper brood and live off their pie shop for income.
They also revealed they make money from brand partnerships on social media.
The Radford family stars in their own reality TV show 22 Kids and Counting – which has run for four series.
Brand expert Andy Barr believes Noel and Sue have been paid less than £10,000 for each show.
He told the Daily Mail: “The typical fee per episode is going to be in the thousands rather than the tens or hundreds of thousands that people often think is the case with TV shows of this nature.
“If they continue to get commissioned for a fourth or fifth season, then they are going to be able to command a higher fee.”
He estimates that the Radfords make £ 5,000 an episode.
But Sue and Noel had a sassy response to that critic.
“Couldn’t think of anything worse than being next to some miserable sod like you.” they replied.
The Radford’s live in a large, 10-bedroom former care home in Morecambe, Lancs to accommodate all their children.
They bought their “dream motorhome” in 2022 to easily ferry their little ones around the UK for staycations.
The stars of Channel 5’s 22 Kids and Counting don’t rely on benefits and support themselves with their pie shop business, as well as income from social media and television.
Oasis confirm support act for UK and Ireland reunion tour – after Liam Gallagher leaked it online over a month ago
OASIS have confirmed that Richard Ashcroft will the special guest on their hotly anticipated reunion tour next year.
It comes after Liam Gallagher made it very clear he wanted the former lead singer of The Verve to join them in a post on X last month, simply writing: “Richard Ashcroft or Manic street preachers as support.”
Oasis will be heading on tour again[/caption]Officially announcing the news today, Richard, who wrote 1997 hit Bitter Sweet Symphony, said in a statement: “As a fan from day one, I was buzzing for many reasons when the news of Oasis’s return was announced.
“I can say with no exaggeration that the song-writing talent of Noel, and Liam’s pure spirit as a lead singer helped to inspire me to create some of my best work.
“It was the perfection of Live Forever that forced me to try and write my own.
“They dared to be great, made the dreams we had real and I will always remember those days with joy.
“Now it’s time to create more memories and I’m ready to bring it.
“See you next summer. Music is power.”
The official X accounts for both Oasis and Ashcroft shared a video on Monday afternoon featuring footage of the singer with the Gallaghers over the years, with The Verve track Sonnet as its soundtrack.
Noel, 57, dedicated Cast No Shadow from 1995 album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? to Wigan-born Ashcroft.
The brothers will reunite to play Manchester’s Heaton Park, London’s Wembley Stadium, Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium and Dublin’s Croke Park throughout July and August next year.
Noel quit the Manchester rock group on August 28 2009, saying he “simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer”.
Fans have been pleading with them to regroup since they disbanded, prompted by a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in France.
When tickets went on sale for the UK and Ireland shows some standard tickets more than doubled from £148 to £355 and the situation was blamed on “unprecedented demand”.
There was outrage from fans and the controversy prompted the Government and the UK’s competition watchdog to pledge they would look at the use of dynamic pricing.
Ticketmaster has previously said it does not set concert prices and its website states this is down to the “event organiser” who “has priced these tickets according to their market value”.
Details regarding the rest of the support line-up for Oasis’s UK and Ireland shows – their only European shows in 2025 – will be revealed in due course.

Becky Hill eyes up ‘world domination’ after selling out debut UK arena tour
She’s bagged 19 UK Top 40 hits and two Brit Awards since competing on The Voice UK way back in 2012, aged just 18.
Now, after over a decade of grafting away, Becky Hill has told Bizarre she finally feels validated and ready to conquer the world as she embarks on a sell-out UK arena tour.
Becky’s nine-date tour comes to an end this week at Wembley Arena – and she’s teasing a few surprises for fans attending[/caption] Becky on stage at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena[/caption]Speaking backstage at her homecoming gig in Birmingham, Becky, who originates from Worcester, said: “This is proper dream come true stuff. I couldn’t be any more on top of the world.
“I am so humbled. It’s one thing to put on an arena tour but it’s another to sell it out.
“It’s definitely a huge validation and you get to see it in physical form. It’s validating and heartwarming.”
Becky’s nine-date tour comes to an end this week with a huge show at Wembley Arena.
“I have a few surprises for that gig – a couple of people who have been a part of the record,” she teases.
As I hang out in the corridors of the Utilita Arena and try not to ogle at Becky’s seriously beefy security guard who waits outside her dressing room, friends and family excitedly drink and chat away, nipping in and out of rooms.
Safe to say it’s a bit manic, and if it was me performing, I’d have cleared the area hours before stage time to avoid inevitably snapping at my nearest and dearest.
But when she emerges from her dressing room looking like Xena the Warrior Princess, Becky is surprisingly calm amidst the sea of madness.
Less than 20 minutes later, “Becky the pop star” takes to the stage to a loud cheer from 15,800 fans packed into the sold-out venue.
She kicks off her 26-song set list with a rousing rendition of 2024 single True Colours, with her mum and dad proudly filming her arrival on their phones after quietly slipping into their seats alongside unsuspecting fans.
It’s a sobering reminder that despite over a decade’s worth of chart hits and the glitz and glamour of being a celebrity, at the heart of it, Becky is just like the rest of us—a normal girl who’s relentlessly grafted and done good.
Dance legends
“Make sure you say she got her voice from me, Jack,” her dad jokes as he proudly ushers me to the side of the stage mid-show.
He later turns to me, chuckling, “You’ve got to laugh,” as he apologises after Becky drops what must have been her sixth or seventh F-bomb of the night—not that I or anyone in the venue was remotely offended.
Becky has a back catalogue of chart hits most artists can only dream of, with collaborations with countless dance legends including David Guetta and Chase & Status.
But it wasn’t until she won her first Brit Award in 2022 for Best Dance Act that the industry seemed to take note.
She went on to win the gong again the following year and was nominated for the award this year.
I don’t drink at all when I’m working or on tour but we do have candles and humidifiers.
Determined not to rest on her laurels, Becky, who embarks on a ten-date US tour next month before a further six shows across New Zealand and Australia in December and January, tells me she’s more driven than ever.
Becky said: “I’m going to keep going for as long as I can and as far [globally] as I can.
“I definitely think world domination is still in my sights for sure. I am very grateful to do what I do. I would love to see how far this can get. I believe in what I do and who I am.
“That has come from turning 30 and letting go of my very insecure twenties. Now I’m just here to keep making music that I love and performing on stage which is also what I love.
“Not a day goes by that I don’t think, ‘Let’s see how far I can go.’ Why not me?”
Though, while she may believe in herself, Becky hasn’t let her success go to her head.
When I’m first taken backstage, she’s happily chatting to her mum in jeans and trainers rather than clicking her fingers to an oversized entourage demanding they bring her every desire.
And by her own account, Becky’s backstage rider is “boring as f***.”
When I ask if she’s got anything exciting on there, she laughs: “The rider is boring as fuck. I always have lots of room-temperature water and liquid IV, which is good salts for when I’m on tour. I’m a girl of simple pleasures.
“I don’t drink at all when I’m working or on tour, but we do have candles and humidifiers. They are scented.”
Almost apologetically, she adds, “I wish I could give you something more exciting, but it’s not.”
Don’t worry Becky, your electric performance showed that in spades.
