How ‘master manipulator’ mum convinced son to violently stab her husband to death – then turned him in to save herself

WATCHING her son Cody get arrested, Pandora Zan collapsed sobbing – her heart breaking as she realised his life was over before it had begun,

He was just 19, and he had brutally murdered Pandora’s husband Charles, slitting his throat and stabbing him over 50 times all over his body including through his eye.

Pandora was devastated as she watched her son get arrested for her husband’s brutal murder, but there was another shocking twist[/caption]

It was a gruesome and horrifying crime, but perhaps equally shocking was the revelation Pandora actually coerced her son into carrying out the deadly plan – and then set him up in an undercover police sting.

Now, 15 years on from the gruesome murder, Pandora Zan and her son Cody Henderson have both opened up from prison on a new Hayu documentary series, Snapped: Behind Bars.

Incredibly despite everything, Cody, who is speaking for the first time ever, reveals he doesn’t blame him mum, even saying: “Mum, I love you like crazy, I miss you… It’s not your fault. I did what I did to protect you and I don’t regret that.

“I really believed at the time it was the only way to save my mum’s life.

“I made a conscious decision, and it was terrible and I didn’t have the right to make it but I did what I did out of love for my mum and I’m sorry for anybody I’ve hurt.”

‘We had a normal family’

Before meeting Charles, accounting specialist Pandora Henderson had been married and had two children, daughter Misty and son Cody.

She was a doting mum, saying: “Holding my kids for the first time was just amazing. I’d never felt love like that for anyone before.

“Cody as a child was super affectionate, it was nothing for him to come up and hug [me] and he always told me that he loved me.”

Speaking about his childhood before his parents split, Cody says: “We did a lot of stuff as a family.

“All the holidays were a big deal… We had a normal family dynamic.”

‘He swept me off my feet’

Unfortunately Pandora’s marriage didn’t last, and she filed for divorce in 2001, when Cody was 11.

That same year she started online dating, and met dad-of-one Charles Zan – a former marine turned corrections officer known as Chuck.

Pandora says: “When we first met and started dating he swept me off my feet. He cooked, and played music… and made me feel just very special.

“It sounds crazy but within a month of meeting him I’d moved me and my kids in with him.”

Cody says: “When my mum first introduced us to Chuck he seemed like a nice guy.

“We were always going out as a little family group, going out for dinner, and she seemed really happy so I was happy for her because that’s what I wanted to see – my mum happy.”

‘The abuse started slowly’

However Cody and Pandora claim things quickly began to change.

Cody says: “Starting out it was just normal stuff you know, do your homework before you go outside to play or clean up after yourself, and that was fine.

“But then with chores he was never satisfied with what we did – there was always something wrong.

“There were several times where the way he treated my mum or me or even my stepbrother got me into a fight with him.”

By 2009 Misty, Cody and their stepbrother Adrian had all moved out to start their own lives.

Pandora says: “After that I was totally dependent on Chuck.

“The abuse started slowly. I wish I’d been strong enough to leave him. If I could go back and change things I absolutely would.”

‘There was blood everywhere’

Finally things came to a head on October 17 2009, and Pandora made the frantic call to police just after 6am from their studio apartment.

“There’s blood everywhere and stab wounds everywhere,” she cried, claiming initially someone had broken in and attacked her husband, stabbing him over 50 times.

Within minutes the first officers arrived on the scene. Miamisburg police detective Tom Thompson says: “There was blood all over the bed, all over the walls, blood everywhere.

“I observed a man laying on a bed that folds out from the couch. It appeared he had stab wounds all over his body, there had been a tremendous struggle.

“He died by bleeding out. It would have taken somewhere between 15 and 25 minutes.”

Describing the scene, police detective Jeff Muncy added: “In my 25 years this is probably the most gruesome thing I’ve ever seen.”

5 must-watch Hayu true crime shows

  • Deadly Cults – In this series, investigators uncover and expose the dark world of cults that kill. Each episode focuses on a different cult, looking at the behaviour of their leaders and followers.
  • Snapped: Killer Couples – Each episode reveals the shocking story of a couple who have committed murder together. A spin-off of series Snapped, which chronicled lives of women who lost control and were charged with murder, the show has aired 17 seasons, each with ten episodes.
  • In Ice Cold Blood – Hosted by Ice-T, this series exposed outrageous tales and shocking true stories involving sex, money, murder and sometimes a fatal cocktail of all three.
  • Charmed To Death A series following the true stories of manipulative and deceptively dangerous criminals who use their charm to cheat, steal and lure unsuspecting victims into romantic relationships, ultimately leaving a wake of devastation and death.
  • The Girl In The Box – Colleen Stan relives what it was like to be kidnapped, imprisoned in a box, and how she bravely escaped. The 20-year-old’s ordeal all started when she accepted a ride from Cameron Hooker, and she was kept captive for nearly a year…

‘I was living a lie’

Pandora later told police she’d been asleep and was startled awake by a noise, and was attacked..

She says now: “That started the first lie – ‘somebody broke in’ – because I didn’t know what else to say.

“I was basically living a lie. I was scared they would arrest me.”

She admitted during a police interview she’d been having marital problems, telling police Charles had cheated on her with a work colleague.

Police also interviewed Charles’ son Adrian and Cody – who suspiciously had scrapes on his face – and Pandora’s daughter Misty was also questioned, and revealed Charles had been abusive.

However, she also quickly began to suspect her mum and brother may have been involved.

Speaking previously in a 2019 documentary, Misty said: “The thought crossed my mind that [they] might have been involved and then I got mad at myself for thinking like that.”

She confronted her mother, who told her Cody had killed Charles, saying: “She told my brother she wanted out of her relationship with Chuck and she thought the only way out was to commit suicide because he would come after her if she left.

“My brother said ‘I’ll take care of it.'” She also said my brother told her that he was not going to get arrested. If it ever came down to it he was going to [kill himself].”

‘Thrown to the wolves’

Misty and Pandora returned to the police station, where Pandora told police Cody had carried out the attack.

Miamisburg police chief John Sedlak says: “At that point I think her purpose was clearly to put Cody in the spotlight and remove herself.”

I felt like she [threw] me to the wolves to save herself. She abandoned me after everything I did for her”

Cody Henderson

Fearing her son would take his own life, Pandora agreed to help police and recorded a call with Cody in which he confessed to stabbing Chuck “a bunch” of times, before arranging a meet him at a motel – where cops were waiting to arrest him.

Cody says: “I felt like she [threw] me to the wolves to save herself. She abandoned me after everything I did for her.

“I was shocked. I understand why she did it… but at the time it didn’t make it any easier.”

At the police station Cody immediately opened up and confessed.

“I was protecting my mum,” he told officers. “Sometimes you just got to do something you don’t want to do for a family member.”

‘I live with regret every day’

While Cody admitted the murder, police also discovered Pandora had a lot to gain from his death, as Charles had a life insurance policy – which Cody revealed she’d offered to split with him.

He also revealed she’d given him money to buy a hunting knife and set the date for the killing.

Six months later Pandora was arrested and charged with aggravated murder, saying: “When they finally came, it was a relief.”

In March 2011 Pandora was found guilty and sentenced to life without parole.

Cody plead guilty and was also sentenced to life without parole.

Pandora adds: “I wish I’d never involved [Cody] in this…

“He didn’t even get a chance to grow into a man and really have a life and a family… I live with regret everyday.”

It’s a crime that’s really had a lasting impact, and even now there are questions if the full truth has been revealed.

Police chief John Sedlak says: “There’s an indication that Pandora is not only a master manipulator, but she’s a pathological liar.

“Even though 15 years has passed I still think about [the] horrific event.”

Season two of Snapped: Behind Bars is available to stream on Hayu.

Moment huge explosion erupts in North Sea as British Navy commandos join F-35 fighter jets on live bombing run

THIS IS the moment a huge explosion erupts in the North Sea as Royal Marines join forces with F-35 fighter jets in a “potent combination”.

A powerful Royal Navy task group of stealth jets and warships has gathered off the coast of Scotland to carry out military drills for “Exercise Strike Warrior”.

The UK Carrier Strike Group, with HMS Prince of Wales as its focal point, is completing critical preparations for a major global deployment in 2025.

It is in preparation for the Carrier Strike Group 25 deployment, which will send British warships, support vessels and jets across the world.

It will be the first mission of its kind since HMS Queen Elizabeth led a 49,000-mile mission to Japan and back in 2021.

In the latest development, the Royal Navy posted footage of Marines and aircraft on X, writing: “Ending the week with a bang… UK Commandos and F-35 jets are a potent combination.

“Special @Commando_Ops Observers have guided F-35 stealth fighters on a live bombing run from @HMSPWLS during Exercise #StrikeWarrior in the North Sea.”

A two-week operation, which started on October 14, will see the potent task group coming up against intensive warfare scenarios to test their ability to firstly protect HMS Prince of Wales and her air group, which will be carrying out flying operations throughout.

F-35B Lightning jets, frigates, destroyers, submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary tankers, and helicopters have gone to the North Sea to test their ability to carry out operations seamlessly together.

The training exercise is supported by the RAF, which provides aircraft to support anti-submarine operations and test the air defence capability of the task group.

Running the exercise from HMS Prince of Wales is Commodore James Blackmore, Commander of the UK Carrier Strike Group, and his battle staff, who carefully coordinate operations.

He said: “The UK’s Carrier Strike Group is the 1* battle staff that commands the fleet embarked on HMS Prince of Wales.

“I have command of highly capable assets and personnel, which provide a powerful capability across all domains from anti-air to cyber.

“This exercise is important because it will validate my team as a ‘Very High Readiness’ force, which means we can be ready to command a fleet with a few days’ notice.

“This is all in preparation for next year’s exercise across which will see us traverse the globe to achieve.

“Exercise Strike Warrior is an important milestone for 809 NAS, being the Squadron’s first return to sea since the Falklands conflict and an important stepping stone in developing our Initial Operational Capability.”

During Strike Warrior, HMS Prince of Wales will be surrounded by warships[/caption]

During Strike Warrior, HMS Prince of Wales will be surrounded by warships, including HMS Portland, HMS Iron Duke, HMS Dauntless and an Astute-class submarine, guarding her from a range of threats.

HMS Portland (Type 23 frigate) is working on countering threats beneath the waves in their primary role as submarine hunters, aided by Merlin helicopters and P8 Maritime Patrol Aircraft from the RAF.

Type 45 destroyer Dauntless is bringing air defence to the task group, with her powerful Sampson radars and Sea Viper missiles acting as a shield from above.

These systems have proven their prowess against drones and missiles with HMS Diamond in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, the Royal Navy said.

An Astute-class hunter killer submarine has been lurking beneath the waves, capable of fending off adversary subs but also hitting targets with Tomahawk missiles.

The UK Carrier Strike Group is operating with NATO warships from Standing NATO Maritime Group 1—the alliance’s premier task force in Northern European waters – throughout Strike Warrior.

The two task forces are testing tactics across a range of scenarios, including anti-submarine warfare, countering attacks from uncrewed systems, air defence exercises, pilot rescues and practising sailing through narrow straits while under threat.

While all of this takes place, F-35B jets from 809 Naval Air Squadron will be flying sorties, including carrying out mock long-range strikes into mainland Europe.

It is the first time Marham-based 809 have deployed on the carrier after standing up at the end of last year.

809 Naval Air Squadron’s Commanding Officer, Commander Nick Smith, said: “The F-35 Lightning Force, specifically the front-line units 617 Squadron and 809 Naval Air Squadron, bring the headline Carrier Strike capability to the task group.

“The 5th Generation capability we bring ranges from projection of firepower ashore, to support of other theatre assets or defence of the task group.”

Four at-home ab exercises from a personal trainer to fire up your core

THAT dusty old exercise ball that’s been lingering around your living room floor or in the corner of your gym is actually a pretty useful piece of kit.

In fact, if it’s been a while since you used it, aside from as a spare seat when needed, it’s time to put it to good use.

The fitness expert says you can get a full ab workout using an exercise ball at home[/caption]

Also known as Swiss balls, physio balls or stability balls, they can put your balance to the test.

And when used correctly, they can help fire up your core muscles

Fancy working your abs using just a stability ball

Chloe Thomas, a personal trainer, women’s health and mindset coach, and founder of online coaching platform Chloe Inspires, has shared four of her favourite core exercises which can be done at home or in the gym using just an exercise ball

You’ll need to engage your core throughout each of the exercises to really reap the full benefits of these moves.

Not sure how to do this?

Firstly, exhale and relax your entire belly area.

Then, slowly inhale and pull your belly button towards your spine, feeling your stomach muscles tighten.

Essentially, if someone was about to punch your stomach, you’d suddenly engage your core; that’s the feeling you’re going for.

Before you start your stability ball ab workout, Chloe recommends doing a five-minute warm up, to help prevent you getting injured.

“Do each exercise for 30 seconds and then rest for 20 seconds and move to the next exercise,” says Chloe.

“Aim to do three to four rounds of the whole circuit.

“I would recommend doing this workout three times a week maximum as you need to let the muscles rest, recover and grow.

“Each time you workout aim to increase time or reps on each exercise so you are progressively overloading.”

Chloe does stress, however, that this workout will not get rid of belly fat.

“No workout alone can do that; that comes from diet,” she adds.

“But this workout will build ab muscles, so when you lose belly fat, you have a toned and defined stomach.”

If you really want to feel the ab burn, avoid resting between each exercise, and instead, go straight from one move into the next.

Now, grab your ball, and get going.

1. Plank

a woman is doing push ups on an exercise ball
Chloe Inspires

For this exercise, kneel in front of your ball, with your shins up against it.

Then, place your hands on the ground, making sure your arms are straight from your shoulders down to your wrists.

Now, push yourself up so that the tops of your feet are on the ball and your body is in a straight line.

Keep your core tight and make sure your shoulders stay directly above your wrists. Look slightly forward.

“Make sure your hips do not dip and do not over-arch your back,” advises Chloe.

2. Plank to crunch

a woman is doing exercises on a gray exercise ball
Chloe Inspires
Next, bring your knees to your chest for a crunch[/caption]

Get back into the plank position you were in for the first exercise with the tops of your feet on the ball and hands on the floor, directly under your shoulders.

Next, engage your core and bring your feet in, moving the ball closer to your body and crunching your feet to your chest.

“Keep your core tight and bring your feet in as far as you can, then extend back out,” adds Chloe.

3. Ball pass

a woman is doing exercises with a pilates ball
Chloe Inspires
Then pass the ball between your feet and your hands[/caption]

Get out of your plank position for this exercise.

Lie on the ground or on a mat and bring your feet up into the air.

As you do this, make sure your back is engaged with the mat and avoid overextending your back.

Next, place the ball between your feet, then extend your legs out and reach your arms out straight over your head.

Crunch your legs in and then pass the ball from your feet to your hands.

Then, extend the ball over your head with your arms and lengthen your legs and feet back out.

Keep repeating this, swapping the ball between your feet and your hands.

Move slowly through the exercise, keeping your core tight and making sure you don’t arch your back.

4. Ball crunch

a woman is doing exercises with a pilates ball
Chloe Inspires
Then, with the ball between your feet, crunch upwards[/caption]

Lie on your mat again or the floor and bring your feet up into the air.

Place the ball between your feet before straightening your legs upwards.

Place your arms straight above your head and crunch up to the ball.

Tap it lightly. Then, lower yourself down and repeat.

Why can't I see my abs?

IF you can’t see your abs muscles, it’s probably because there’s a layer of fat lying on top of them.

But, there are things you can do to burn fat.

Firstly, personal trainer Chloe Thomas suggests putting yourself into a calorie deficit.

“To do this you would need to start eating slightly less than you are burning and move your body more,” she says.

“Calorie intake depends on height, weight, age, activity levels, muscle mass and gender – so every person will need a different amount of calories to lose body fat.

“To speed up results I would also recommend cutting out alcohol as this slow results and can contribute to belly fat.”

Chloe also recommends sticking mainly to whole foods and foods that are minimally processed

“The best foods for reducing belly fat are lean proteins like chicken, fish, and eggs, which support muscle building and metabolism,” she adds.

“You also want to eat fibre-rich whole grains, vegetables and fruits.

“Aim to have healthy fats like avocados, nuts, some fish and olive oil which help to regulate your blood sugars and reduce cravings.”

Manage your stress levels too.

“Cortisol is a hormone that is released when we are stressed and high cortisol can lead to increased belly fat,” she says.

Greek island set to be the next big thing in 2025 – with much quieter beaches and new hotels

GREEK island are aplenty, with Santorini and Mykonos some of the most popular holiday destinations in the world.

But a new study has named the island of Paros as a trending destination for next year.

Paphos is often overlooked in favour of the nearby Mykonos[/caption]

American Express Travel included the island in their 2025 Trending Destinations list.

Analysing travel bookings as well as working with global travel consultants, the island was one of the few European destinations to make the list.

The website states: “Laid-back Paros has become the Greek island of choice for many.

“The cultural scene is vibrant here, and the rocky coastline is studded with beaches, secluded coves, and sea caves.

“A mere 40-minute flight from Athens—or three hours on a ferry—this windblown retreat is also easy to get to.”

Around 200,000 people visit a year – just 10 per cent of the annual tourists that go to Santorini.

This means you can expect the island to be much quieter, and off-the-beaten track.

Its famous for a few things. This includes its marble, which was considered to be the best in ancient times, but there are other attractions too, including its many beaches.

The town of Naoussa is the second largest town on the island and has been called a “smaller version of Mykonos”.

Expect amazing seafood when there too, with most of it caught at fresh before being served up

However, it is also undergoing some new changes.

The island’s airport is expanding its terminal and runway, which will allow better infrastructure for travel.

The €41million project hopes to be complete by 2026.

New hotels are popping up too.

This includes the boutique Andronis which opened earlier this year and a new Canaves Collection resort following success in Santorini.

Last year, professional travel planer Jennifer Greene said Paros was on the up.

She added: “The lack of an international airport tends to keep it that way, but a gentle ebb of chic new hotels is attracting more tourists.”

American Express also named Brittany in France as a trending hotspot.

They included the destination because of its “distinctive culture, coastal scenery and miles of seaside walking paths like the GR34 trail”.

Mont-Saint-Michel is one of the region’s most famous attractions, located in the bay shared by Normandy and Brittany.

One beach that’s proven popular among holidaymakers because of its long stretch of sandy beach, stunning views, and tranquil waters is Plage de Tahiti.

Ferry is a popular option for travelling to Brittany from the UK – with routes from Plymouth and Poole.

American Express Travel's 2025 Trending Destinations

  • Brisbane, Australia – located between the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, Brisbane offers excellent museums as well as vibrant dining and nightlife.
  • Brittany France – Distinctive culture, coastal scenery and miles of seaside walking paths like the GR34 trail top the list of reasons to visit the Brittany region.
  • Franschhoek, South Africa – Franschhoek, the mountain-ringed gem in the Cape Winelands region, is an ideal add-on to a safari vacation with nearly 50 wineries, farm-to-table restaurants and hiking.
  • Koh Samui, Thailand – 88-square-mile Koh Samui offers a dreamy combo of lush jungle, white sand beaches, and turquoise waters, perfect for active travelers or those looking to relax. The island will be featured on a popular TV show scheduled to air next year and is sure to inspire set-jetting travelers.
  • Macau, China – Though The Historic Centre of Macau enjoys UNESCO World Heritage status, and the local Cantonese-Portuguese fusion cuisine is a must-try for foodies, the supersized casinos are the reason this densely populated peninsula, known as the “Las Vegas of the East,” boasts a number of award-winning restaurants.
  • Moab, United States – As the gateway to Utah’s “Mighty Five” national parks, Moab is a perfect starting point to explore the American Southwest. Travelers come for world-class rafting, mountain biking, and canyon hiking – or simply to bask in the red rock scenery.
  • Nikko, Japan – This tucked away mountain retreat in mostly rural Tochigi prefecture blends elements of Kyoto and Mt. Fuji, with photogenic waterfalls and abundant hiking trails.
  • Paros, Greece – Laid-back Paros has become the Greek island of choice for many with a vibrant cultural scene and rocky coastline studded with beaches, secluded coves, and sea caves.
  • São Paulo, Brazil – This multi-ethnic city is one of the great cultural destinations of South America and home to rich architectural heritage and some of the continent’s best museums, street art, and homegrown fashion.
  • Sun Valley, Idaho, United States – With fewer crowds than other Western ski resorts, Sun Valley appeals to premium travellers and everyday outdoor enthusiasts alike. During the summer months travellers can enjoy trout fishing, whitewater rafting, mountain biking and more.

‘I found the BEST dupes in Tesco’ shopper claims after spotting copies of Birkenstock & White Company slippers for £14

SHOPPERS are racing to Tesco to get their hands on a range of dupes.

Fashion fan Yaz Moore discovered the fashionable buys after heading to her local store.

She shared her shopping experience on TikTok and in the video said: “Tesco has done it again with the dupes

“They currently have Birkenstock’s and White Company dupes right now for only £14.

“I am desperate to get these slippers.”

The slippers are suede-effect on top, with fur lining and are only £14 at Tesco.

They are similar to The White Company’s Suede Corkbed Mule Slippers which are £55, and Birkenstock’s Boston Shearling slippers which are £160.

Yaz went onto say how Tesco is her “favourite place to buy” her clothes from.

She showed her followers an off-white skirt and bardot woolly-knitted set, and said: “This set wasn’t here when I last came, but how nice is that?

“Just the knits from Tesco are so good, and they’re obviously really affordable as well.”

Yaz also found a grey knitted cardigan which has gold buttons on the pockets and from the waist up toward the neck for £19.50.

She says: “This is so nice. Oh my God, the material is so soft.

“I’ve been completely sidetracked from what we’re actually here for, but I just can’t help myself.

“They’ve got so many good things.”

Fans in the comments suggested the grey knit cardigan was a dupe of Maebe’s – Molly-Mae’s new clothing brand.

The Maebe cardigan is cropped, however, and is priced at £65.

Yaz then found a V-Neck woolly jumper in grey, a maroon red bardot jumper, and a beige zip up cardigan for £29.50.

Talking about the zip up cardigan, she says: “Everyone went crazy for this jumper that I’ve been wearing, and it is from Tesco, and they do it in grey as well.”

Her shopping trip gained a lot of attention with many fashion fans rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.

One wrote: “They also have Ugg Tazz dupes as well.”

Another added: “I purchased these last week.”

Whilst a third said: “That cardigan is such a Molly-Mae Maebe dupe.”

And a fourth shopper wrote: “I’ve got these! so comfy and snug!”

How has Tesco's F&F upped its game

By Fabulous’ Fashion Editor Clemmie Fieldsend

ZARA has become a high street staple in recent years thanks to its hot-off-the-catwalk designs and affordable prices.
But recently those prices have risen with the brand’s popularity.
However, if you are looking for high fashion inspired outfits with low price tags you needn’t drag yourself to your local shops, just head to the supermarket instead.
F&F has come a long way from selling a few backs of T-shirts and fluffy dressing gowns and is now a must have shopping destination for thousands.
They produce good quality, long lasting and on trend clothes that puts others to shame.
F&F is filled with Zara dupes and other looks inspired by our favourite shops that will set you back less than £50 – and you can get them while you pick up your dinner.
I for one love F&F denim, it’s durable, fits really well and has all the best silhouettes.
So even if you’re not looking for reasonable prices but just want good clothes, get yourself to Tesco.

Full list of banks including Nationwide offering free cash payouts of up to £200 before Christmas

HOUSEHOLDS could get a free cash payout worth up to £200 just in time for Christmas.

Four major banks are now offering cash incentives for new customers and you could land a boost in time for the festive period.

Households could get free cash for Christmas by switching bank accounts[/caption]

Switching bank accounts can be an easy way to give your balance a quick boost.

Cash incentives are regularly launched by banks to entice new customers, but do be sure to check the small print.

Most of these offers have certain criteria that you need to meet in order for you to get the cash.

For example, some accounts require you to pay a certain amount each month to maintain them.

While others might charge you for setting up an overdraft.

Be sure to check that the account you chose is right for you in the long term before switching.

Once you’ve decided you’ll need to make the switch using the current account switching service (CASS) which takes just seven days, and the new bank handles it for you.

We explain further down how the CASS works, but first here’s the full list of the offers available now that could tempt you to move.

Lloyds Bank – £200

If you switch your current account to Lloyds you could get £200.

Both new and existing customers can take advantage of the free cash offer available for those who switch between now and December 10.

Those who switch to the Club Lloyds account can expect the £200 to be paid within ten days of completing the switch.

It is important to be aware that the account comes with a £3 a month fee unless you pay in £2,000 a month.

To finalise the switch, customers can either scan the QR code available on the bank’s website or use the mobile app.

Once completed, Club Lloyds customers will be able to select from a range of perks, including a 12-month Disney+ subscription, a choice of Vue or Odeon cinema tickets, a magazine subscription, or a Coffee Club and Gourmet Society membership.

But remember you pay a fee for the extras, so work out if it’s worth paying the fee to get these.

New customers can get the bonus, and so can existing Lloyds customers if they don’t already have a Club Lloyds account and open a new one.

Those who already received a switch bonus since April 2020 from Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland (all part of the same group) won’t be eligible.

The same bonus is also available when switching to the Club Lloyds Platinum Account and Club Lloyds Silver Account but these comes with a £22.50 and £11.50 a month fee, respectively, on top of the £3.

How do I switch bank accounts?

SWITCHING bank accounts is a simple process and can usually be done through the Current Account Switch Service (CASS).

Dozens of high street banks and building societies are signed up – there’s a full list on CASS’ website.

Under the switching service, swapping banks should take seven working days.

You don’t have to remember to move direct debits across when moving, as this is done for you.

All you have to do is apply for the new account you want, and the new bank will tell your existing one you’re moving.

There are a few things you can do before switching though, including choosing your switch date and transferring any old bank statements to your new account.

You should get in touch with your existing bank for any old statements.

When switching current accounts, consider what other perks might come with joining a specific bank or building society.

Some banks offer 0% overdrafts up to a certain limit, and others might offer better rates on savings accounts.

And some banks offer free travel or mobile phone insurance with their current accounts – but these accounts might come with a monthly fee.

First Direct – £175

First Direct has relaunched its popular cash switch incentive for anyone who opens a 1st Account.

Customers can receive a payment of up to £175 by using the CASS.

Users have to switch at least two direct debits or standing orders within 30 days of opening the account to qualify for the cash.

Switchers also need to add at least £1,000 into the account, register and log on to internet banking and use the debit card at least five times within 30 days of opening the account.

Customers who meet the criteria should expect the free bonus in their accounts by the 20th of the following month.

The bank revealed that new customers switching to their current account to first direct can expect several extra perks, including a £250 interest-free overdraft.

You won’t qualify for the switching incentive if you have previously held a First Direct product or opened an HSBC current account on or after January 1, 2018.

Customers moving across to the bank will also get access to a regular savings account paying 7% interest, one of the best deals around, as well as a 0% overdraft on the first £250.

Nationwide – £175

Nationwide Building Society has launched a new offer of £175 to switch to its FlexDirect, FlexPlus or FlexAccount current accounts.

The free-cash perk is a joint-market leading sum with First Direct.

The FlexDirect account gives the holder 5% credit interest on balances up to £1,500 for the first 12 months.

This account also offers an interest-free overdraft for the first 12 months.

Those who open a new FlexDirect account will still get the 5% credit interest rate, and will also receive 1% cashback for the first 12 months on debit card purchases, capped at £5 per month.

For new FlexDirect account openings, the previous interest-free overdraft offer will be withdrawn.

But if you are an existing customer who is benefiting from an interest-free overdraft offer then don’t worry, this will continue until the end of their 12-month period.

You also can’t have switched into a Nationwide account, or have received switch cash from Nationwide, since August 18, 2021.

Co-op Bank

The Co-operative Bank has announced eligible customers could receive up to £150.

The first £75 is given when a customer completes a switch to the bank.

Then, the bank is offering three monthly instalments of £25 – another £75 – to make up the £150.

Both new and existing customers can apply to switch to a current account to make themselves eligible for the payment.

Customers must apply for a Standard Current Account or Everyday Extra account.

To be eligible, customers must not have benefited from a switch incentive at The Co-operative Bank since 1 November 2022.

And to receive the first £75, customers need to follow a series of rules.

They are:

  • Deposit a minimum of £1,000 into their new account (this includes balances transferred as part of the switch).
  • Have 2 active Direct Debits.
  • Make a minimum of 10 debit card or digital wallet transactions (pending payments will not count toward fulfilment of this criteria).
  • Register for our online and/or mobile banking service.
  • Set up the debit card in a digital wallet (Apple Pay, Samsung Wallet or Google Pay).

That leaves the three £25 instalments – and there are some rules to claim them too.

Customers need to deposit at least £1,000 into their account, have two direct debits and make a minimum of 10 debit card transactions.

Final days before iconic clothing store closes popular location after 27 years – but diehard fans get another option

A POPULAR women’s clothing store will be closing its doors, marking the end of an era after 27 years at the same location.

The Talbots store has been a fixture at The Summit shopping center in Birmingham, Alabama, since its opening in 1997.

A sign posted in-store confirmed the closure at the end of October, stating, “This location is closing, but this isn’t goodbye.”

It directs loyal customers to another location in Montgomery and encourages them to shop online.

The news was first shared on the Friends of HWY 280 Facebook page, where many long-time customers expressed their disappointment.

One person commented: “So terribly disappointed. This store served a huge community for such a long time… Sad day for women of the community.”

Another said, “I’m heartbroken. That location is a beautiful store. I often visit.”

Several customers voiced frustration, speculating that the closure is linked to the upcoming arrival of a Lululemon store at The Summit.

“So disappointed in The Summit for pushing this move for Lululemon. I guess money talks,” one post read.

The closure doesn’t mean the end for dedicated fans, as the store’s Montgomery location remains open, and shoppers can continue to buy online.

The Summit, meanwhile, has been busy with other new openings, including stores like American Eagle, Mizzen + Main, and Gorjana Jewelry.

Luxury brand BOSS is also set to open by the end of 2024.

RETAIL APOCALYPSE

With a raft of brick-and-mortar stores shuttering across the nation, retail experts say many chains are in financial strife due to increased borrowing costs and consumers tightening their wallets.

According to analysis by retail data provider CoreSight, there has been a 24% increase in store closures in 2024 alone.

Several retailers across the United States have undergone mass closures after bankruptcy filings this year.

Big Lots recently confirmed its Chapter 11 filing after weeks of speculation and detailed plans for around 545 store shutdowns.

LL Flooring will also close half of its over 400 locations after a quiet bankruptcy filing and revert to an old name under its new ownership.

Some clothing retailers also took similar actions.

Express filed for bankruptcy in April and confirmed nearly 100 locations would shutter for good.

Rue21 also submitted another bankruptcy filing after one in the early 2000s and confirmed it would shut down all of its remaining stores.

Liam Payne’s devastated sister Ruth breaks silence in emotional statement as she posts unseen photos of late star

LIAM Payne’s sister has posted a heartbreaking tribute to her “best friend” following his tragic death.

The One Direction singer’s sibling Ruth posted a lengthy testimonial to her Instagram page, including a message directly addressing the Little Things singer where she said: “I’m sorry I couldn’t save you.”

Liam Payne’s sister has posted an emotional tribute to her late sibling

Ruth recalled their happy memories together in the message, before uploading a bittersweet series of images showing their strong bond.

In her emotional message – which came after Liam, 31, passed in Argentina – she wrote: “I don’t believe this is happening. Many times have I poured my heart out publicly with
pride about Liam but never much about life as his sister.

“Liam is my best friend, no one could ever make me laugh as much as him, doing his impressions always had me creasing and he loved seeing how much of a laugh he could get.

“He moved out when he was 17 to chase his dreams, its this that forced me to finally pass my driving test during the factor live show weeks because I couldn’t stand the thought of not being able to get to him.

“I would regularly drive to have tea with him after I finished work, just to sit around. One month the hotel was right by a Wagamamas and I swear he had it morning, noon and night!”

Speaking after his X Factor heyday Ruth continued: “I used to love picking him up from work when it all started, especially after concerts, speeding us away from venues or appearances, Liam plugging in his phone to show me the new songs for albums.

“Liam loved 1D, he loved his brothers and we talked about it so much. He would just play song after song that had been recorded but never used and we’d sit having a mini 1D concert.

“Liam knew he could call me anytime, any day and I would pick up or that I would always fetch him if he needed to just come home. Our calls would often result in me laughing at his ideas and next adventure, talking through his plans and working through his issues but it would always end with ‘love you miss you’ “love you ru.’

“Liam was born with music in his veins, it was clear from a very young age he just had that quality that would make him a star. I could sit and listen to him sing all day, which is a good job really because he never bloody stopped!

“I will never tire of the look he gives when showing new songs, ‘listen loud’ he’d say and just grin with pride of his work.”

In a very personal, poignant moment, Ruth shared with her followers a list of “notes on my phone with things to tell Liam.”

She then followed this by penning a heart-wrenching tribute to her youngest sibling.

In a direct open letter to Liam, who fell from the third floor balcony of his hotel room, she wrote: “Liam. My brain is struggling to catch up with what’s happening and I don’t understand where you’ve gone.

“I just want to drive to your house and walk in to music blasting and find you sat there writing a song or walk in to your art phases and sit with you whilst you draw or craft.

“He was always a joy, had time for everyone, polite, grateful, and was always humble.”

BBC Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball reacted to the “devastating news” on her show and told fans she hugged her own son Woody tight this morning.

JLS band member Marvin Humes reflected on his memories with the singer, sharing: “I first met Liam in 2008 with the JLS boys whilst auditioning for X Factor..he was 14 years old..

“We instantly clicked and looked at him as a little brother..that year it worked out for us but not for him and then 2 years later he went back to audition and One Direction was born..the rest is history..

“Absolutely heartbroken by the tragic news..Liam you wanted to be a global superstar and you did it bro..just can’t believe that things have ended this way..it’s shocking..my thoughts and prayers are with all your family and friends brother..RIP.”

Niall Horan’s brother Greg shared an emotional tribute to Liam, praising him as a “top young man”.

He added: “You will be forever missed. Liam, words can’t describe how much I want to grab my brother and mind him now while the world shows their memories of you and him and the boys.

“My heart goes out to your family parents and sisters and your son Bear and your 1D brothers.

“10th October we met and we started out that evening as 5 families into one big one 1D family thank you for all the laughs bro watch down on all your family and mind them lots of love kiddo x x x 1D 4 LIFE x x x”

Meanwhile Love Island star Molly Marsh penned: “I’m so taken aback, rest in peace.”

The Gavin and Stacey actor wrote on Instagram: “Talking about Liam in the past tense is utterly heart-breaking.

“I will treasure the moments I got to spend with him. My thoughts are with his family today x.”

Payne previously appeared on Cordon’s The Late Late Show in America.

Former Little Mix star Jade Thirwall – who won X Factor with her bandmates one year after One Direction took part – described him as “the first friend I made in this industry”.

She said: “We fell out of touch as the years went by, but back in 2008 he was the first friend I made in this industry.

“Both of us so young, so ambitious, both hoping we’d ‘make it’. I hope you are at peace now”.

Camila Cabello described his death as a “tragedy” and said he “made an impression” on her when she was a young girl.

What I love most about you is your ability to make me laugh, I never chuckle as much as I do when I’m with you with anyone else.

I’m always in awe of your talent, it should be illegal to be so talented and just have the ability to not only be good at things but be bloody great at everything you attempt, without even knowing you’re absolutely smashing it each time.

I love your kindness and how proud I am to call you my brother and my best friend. You also make a great Sunday dinner too!
I don’t feel this world was good enough or kind enough to you, and quite often over the last few years, you’ve had to really try hard to overcome all that was being aimed at you.

“You just wanted to be loved and to make people happy with your music. You never believed you were good enough, I hope you can now see this outpouring of love that you never received in your time.”

Ruth, who is sister to Nicola as well as Liam, candidly added: “Thank you for changing my life, thank you for the incredible memories, thank you for being the best brother and friend I’ll ever have!

“We’ll take care of Bear and he will always know how incredible his Dad is and how much you idolise him.”

In a hugely emotional final paragraph, she added: “I’m sorry I couldn’t save you.

“Love you, oh how my heart misses you,

“One last time I need you to know, I’m here if you need anything, I’d drive to the end of the universe to bring you back.”

Mark Cuban insists there’s no ‘quick fix’ for America’s retail apocalypse & warns ‘communities die’ if action not taken

BILLIONAIRE investor Mark Cuban has warned that American communities will “die” if policymakers and business owners don’t act to prevent further closures of brick-and-mortar stores.

It comes amid growing concern over the nation’s so-called retail apocalypse, which has seen hundreds of store closures in recent years.

Mark Cuban says store closures are a real problem for American communities

In an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun, the Shark Tank judge and minority Dallas Mavericks owner said vulnerable people in communities across the country are being impacted by the closure of brick-and-mortar stores.

Calling it “a big problem to solve,” the entrepreneur said all levels of government should work with entrepreneurs to prevent a growing number of food and pharmaceutical deserts.

“If you just say, just let the market take care of it, we see what happens, communities die,” Cuban warned.

“And so we have to be open-minded. The way I look at it personally, there’s a problem to solve.

“The big question is, when it’s the only outlet for produce or food or pharmacy, or medical services, it becomes a question of, are you willing to let that community die? And who’s responsible for making those decisions?”

Cuban warned against a “laissez-faire” approach, arguing that an economic mindset is much more expensive in the long run.

“How do we get a hospital…how do we get a doctor there? I’m not opposed to bringing the government in and saying, you know what? It’s going to be a lot cheaper to bring in a service than to have people who aren’t getting healthcare, who get sicker and then have to be sent to a hospital 40 miles away,” he added.

CLOSING TIME

The calls come amid ongoing public concern for the closure of brick-and-mortar stores across the country.

A number of major retailers are suffering as the sector grapples with changing consumer behavior, the rise of e-commerce, and inflationary pressures sparked by the pandemic.

With a raft of chains, including Walmart, winding back their retail footprint, experts say retailers are in financial strife due to increased borrowing costs and consumers tightening their wallets amid ongoing cost of living pressures.

According to analysis by retail data provider CoreSight, there has been a 24% increase in store closures in 2024 alone.

Amid growing concern over pharmacy deserts, CVS announced it had replaced CEO Karen Lync with company veteran David Joyner and withdrew its 2024 profit forecast amid growing investor pressure.

Earlier in the week the pharmacy giant said it was laying off nearly 3,000 employees, with the company struggling to drive higher profits and better stock performance.

A pharmacy tech in Ohio told USA Today she now had to drive 22 miles to Fort Wayne, Indiana in order to get her monthly prescriptions after the one pharmacy in town closed in Antwerp.

Customers are increasingly frustrated at the state of US pharmacies, with empty shelves, locked up products and long queues.

Satisfaction with brick and mortar pharmacies dropped 10 points in 2024 alone, according to a study by J.D. Power.

Department stores, including Macy’s, are closing about 150 underperforming stores, blaming competition from big box retailers and a shift to online shopping.

Discount retailer Big Lots has also announced the closure of more than 340 of its 1400 shops across the country after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September.

Shopping mall space has begun to shrink in two stages, first from 2009 to 2016, and then again during the pandemic.

Cuban branded the closure of retailers as “creative destruction” and said he believed consumers would always want access to both online and in-store shopping.

In economic theory, creative destruction is the process of innovations replacing existing ones, which can destroy industries, jobs, and companies.

Cuban said shoppers should not worry too much about their favorite stores closing, but seeing communities go without their favorite locations was “a problem.”

“People want to go shopping, they want that tactile experience, and that’s changed. Now people want a combination of both, so you may not get as many physical brick-and-mortar locations, but that doesn’t mean those large companies have to go out of business,” Cuban said.

“You see Walmart, their online business is growing, and maybe their brick and mortar business isn’t growing as quickly, but what matters is how things are happening together.”

But Cuban forecasted new businesses will crop up from the dust of empty retail stores, especially as the Federal Reserve continues to cut interest rates after they were high during the pandemic.

“Now with interest rates so high, landlords are trying to protect themselves even more,” Cuban said.

“I think once we get through high interest rates, you’ll see a lot more creativity in how those spaces are being used, and new types of businesses will pop up.”

COST PLUS

Passionate about solving problems like pharmaceutical deserts, Cuban is investing his time and money into a new venture called Cost Plus Drugs.

Built on the idea that all Americans should have access to safe, affordable medicines even without insurance, the company aims to disrupt the drug industry and reduce the price of everyday medications.

The company works directly with drug manufacturers to bypass middlemen and lower prices.

It also transparently displays what it pays for medicine.

Through his pharmaceutical venture, Cuban said he has seen many small independent pharmacies go out of business, leaving “pharmacy deserts.”

While acknowledging it is a difficult problem to solve, Cuban said business people and local communities could collaborate to solve it.

“I don’t know that there is a quick fix, but it’s something we all have to pay attention to and I think working with entrepreneurs in communities hopefully can lead to a solution.”

Meet Duece Jones-Drew, 16-year-old football prospect who ran blistering 100m time and could be better than NFL icon dad

DUECE Jones-Drew is better than his NFL icon dad was at the age of 16 – and has high hopes of making it all the way.

The high school running back grew up idolizing his father Maurice Jones-Drew as he became one of the best players in Jacksonville Jaguars history.

Duece plays for the same De La Salle high school where his dad attended – and made an immediate impact on debut.

He missed his entire freshman year with a shoulder injury, but exploded for a 64-yard touchdown run to begin his sophomore season in August.

Earlier this month he played on the international stage as De Le Salle took on the UK-based NFL Academy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.

The 16-year-old has blistering speed having ran the 100 meters in 10.8 seconds and is already attracting attention from colleges such as UCLA and Utah.

And the high school sophomore is on a trajectory to be even better than former NFL rushing leader dad Maurice was.

Speaking to The Sun about following in his dad’s footsteps, Duece said, “I would’ve played football anyway.

“I used to get football cards when I was young and spread them out and play with them.

“It’s always just been football, football, football.

“We have a long season ahead but definitely the NFL is the goal and so far it’s been pretty good.”

Duece has already dealt with the agony of injury after being forced into shoulder surgery.

“It definitely sucks being on the side lines just watching,” he admitted.

“I had surgery last year and was out the whole year the I came back and dislocated it again.

“But I got to see the game from a different perspective and that helped a lot.

“I was doing track in the off-season to help with my speed and feel like I’m doing good right now.”

Duece grew up in a football family and learned some valuable lessons from his dad.

'Tears of joy'

MAURICE Jones-Drew shed tears of joy when his son scored a touchdown on debut for the same high school he went to.

“I definitely cried in the car,” Jones-Drew told The Sun.

“It was tears of joy more than anything.”

“I saw him get hurt, have surgery and go through the ups and downs.

“To see him go out there in the first game in high school and score a 60-yarder was pretty amazing.”

“I know how far hard work takes you,” the 16-year-old said.

“He’s not on me a lot about it but I saw what he did in the NFL and I know I need to translate it to my game.

“I have a different personality on the field than off the field.

“Off the field I’m a quiet person, but on the field I can let out a bit more.

“It’s always good to have a resource to get everything out.”
