Tottenham 3 Liverpool 6: Reds tighten grip on top as Salah, Diaz and Co run Spurs ragged in bonkers nine-goal thriller

NOTHING could save Spurs this time.

Not the referee or linesmen inside the stadium or the VAR operator at Stockley Park. Certainly not Tottenham’s absolutely shocking defence.

While last season’s meeting between these two provided us with the biggest cock-up in VAR, this was a walk in the park for the officials.

Because like everyone else, they were able to just watch in total bemusement at another bonkers game at the Tottenham Stadium.

Weirdly, despite the fact they conceded three times, this was one of Liverpool’s easiest wins of the season and they will be four points clear at Christmas with a game in hand.

You hate to think what the aggregate scoreline will be when these two teams meet in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

In October 2023, it was Luis Diaz whose goal was incorrectly disallowed for offside after the VAR mistakenly believed the on-field decision had been to award the goal, allowing Spurs to win 2-1.

So it was only right that Diaz should start and finish the scoring. After heading the first,Alexis Mac Allister made it 2-0 and while James Maddison pulled one back, shambolic Spurs could not reach half-time without conceding again as Dominik Szoboszlai nodded the third.

Mo Salah struck twice for goals no 17 and 18 of the season before Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke both scored – only for Diaz to grab his second.

Yet Liverpool could easily have got 10 goals. While Spurs continue to be without keeper Guglielmo Vicario and centre-backs Sergio Romero and Micky van de Ven, this was still embarrassing.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool match statistics.

Before the game, Spurs fans protested against chairman Daniel Levy and the club ownership. There were only a few hundred disgruntled supporters although a bigger protest is expected and this result will not help their mood.

Because still, the performances under Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will divide opinion and they are clearly not learning from their lessons.

For example, after what happened in the second half three days earlier, when he gifted Manchester United two goals, you would have thought Fraser Forster would have been a bit more careful when the ball was at his feet.

Yet staggeringly just two minutes into the game, his attempted chip to Djed Spence landed at the grateful feet of Mo Salah who rushed his shot and fired into the side netting.

Incredibly, in the first 18 minutes alone, Salah had five good chances which included a shot against the bar.

So Tottenham could not argue that Liverpool did not deserve their lead halfway inside the first half.

Diaz got between Pedro Porro and Radu Dragusin to score with an excellent header although this was all down to Alexander-Arnold’s stunning cross who then had Diaz pretend to polish his boot.

Alexander-Arnold was excellent for Liverpool although he was lucky, at 0-0, to avoid conceding a penalty after shoving over Maddison.

Liverpool’s second came when both Spence and Szoboszlai both jumped to meet Andy Robertson’s cross and the ball looped into the air for Mac Allister who used his head to plant an effort past Forster.

Shot map of Luis Díaz vs Tottenham: 7 shots, 2 goals. Pass map showing Trent Alexander-Arnold's 41 completed passes and 15 incomplete passes against Tottenham.

Mac Allister was then guilty of offering Spurs a route back when he failed to control a pass from Alexander-Arnold under a challenge from Kulusevski. Maddison took a couple of touches before curling his effort into the bottom right corner.

Yet at least, you would have thought Tottenham could get to half-time yet this proved too difficult.

Alexander-Arnold’s left-footed punt upfield was met with a header by Szoboszlai and Salah ran onto the flick. Just when Spurs thought Salah would release Diaz, he delivered a reverse pass to Szoboszlai who buried a shot through Forster’s legs.

After failing to score five goals in that first half, Salah joined the party. In a goalline scramble, Archie Gray delivered blocks from Cody Gakpo and Szoboszlai and Salah had a simple tap-in.

Szoboszlai squared brilliantly to give Salah another easy chance for 5-1 and even though Kulusevski pulled one back with a volley and Solanke struck against his former club, there was never going to be a comeback.

Just to make sure, Salah delivered an assist for Diaz who stuck the ball in the corner past Fraser Forster.

At the end, the final whistle was greeted with jeers but not in the away end who are loving life under Arne Slot. And pretty grateful he did not join Tottenham 18 months ago.

I spent a fortune on Secret Santa goodies and couldn’t believe what I got in return – I refuse to ever do it again

A YOUNG woman was left fuming after participating in a game of Secret Santa with work colleagues.

She took to social media to show off the Christmas hamper she had made compared to the gift she received.

Everyone was set a budget of £50[/caption]

“This is your sign not to do Secret Santa,” she captioned the post.

She later revealed that the Secret Santa game had a budget of £50 and people didn’t have to participate.

In her basket, she had included a blush pink blanket, as well as a small pot of Nivea cream, a small travel jewellery holder and a Garnier hair mask.

But that’s not all, she even picked up a Sol de Janeiro body mist which retails for £25, a set of shower gels for £8, the Beauty Pie Triple Hyaluronic Acid & Lipopeptide Serumwhich is £24.

Plus, she grabbed a Treaclemoon Brazilian Love Shower & Bath Gel for £2, a face illuminator and the Sol de Janeiro moisturiser which costs £21.

She revealed that while her basket was worth more than the £50 budget, she had used vouchers so it technically didn’t cost her more.

“I used vouchers, so technically yes it is but with the vouchers it came to £50, thought I might as well put them to good use,” she wrote in the comments.

However, it seems her goodwill and Christmas cheer were not reciprocated.

Despite the fact everyone was meant to spend £50 all she received was a cheap generic bath bomb and a Dove lip balm.

Rightfully, she was fuming at the gift she received and how the person had put such little effort in.

She was rightfully angry with what she got in her gift[/caption]

She wrote: “The point is though, everyone agreed on the budget, it was made crystal clear if you don’t want to be involved you don’t have to!

“I fully understand some people can’t afford much, and those who couldn’t simply didn’t get involved. everyone who agreed to the budget could afford it. Simple as .There is no excuse.”

The clip went viral on TikTok @userr178444 with over 1 million views and 87k likes.

People were quick to take her side, saying they would be raging as well.

It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover calls Blake Lively ‘honest and patient’ as she backs star against Justin Baldoni

AUTHOR Colleen Hoover has appeared to back Blake Lively as she faces off against her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni.

The pair starred in the 2024 film, which made $350 million at the worldwide box office, but rumours were quick to grow that the leading actors had fallen out during filming.

Colleen Hoover has shared her support publicly for Blake Lively as she launched a lawsuit against Justin Baldoni[/caption]

Hoover has appeared to side with Lively, who directed and starred in the adaptation of the best selling novel.

Writing on Instagram, she shared an Instagram Story where she praised the Gossip Girl actress.

She told followers: “@blakelively, you have been nothing but honest, kind, supportive, and patient since the day we met.

“Thank you for being exactly the human that you are. Never change. Never wilt.”

She also linked to a New York Times article detailing Lively’s lawsuit and allegations against Baldoni.

The words from Hoover come just one day after Lively has launched a lawsuit against her co-star Justin Baldoni.

Lively claims Baldoni showed her naked videos and images of other women and kept talking about his alleged previous porn addiction, according to documents seen by TMZ.

In a bombshell sexual harassment lawsuit, the actress accuses Baldoni of a smear campaign to ‘destroy’ her reputation, which he denies.

It claims executives had to arrange an all-hands meeting, attended by Reynolds, 40, after Lively told bosses of her concerns.

The actress is said to have demanded Baldoni stop showing her naked photos of women, talking about his sex life, discussing cast members’ genitalia and asking about his co-star’s weight.

And she also claims to have asked for “no more adding of sex scenes, oral sex or on camera climaxing outside the scope of the script approved when signing onto the project.”

Filing legal documents, Lively says Baldoni’s actions caused her and her family “severe emotional distress”.

Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, has branded the lawsuit “shameful” and claimed it was “false, outrageous and intentionally salacious, with an intent to publicly hurt”.

He claimed Blake launched legal action to “fix her negative reputation” after reports that she was “diva-like” on set.

Jimmy Johnson shares coaching career advice with new Norfolk State boss Michael Vick live on Fox NFL Sunday

JIMMY Johnson is giving lessons to college football’s newest head coach, Michael Vick.

Vick is continuing his Fox NFL Sunday duties after signing on with Norfolk State, and Jimmy Johnson gave him a quick coaching lesson on live TV.

Johnson has plenty of experience coaching at the college level, spending time at Oklahoma and Miami before moving to the NFL.

He won the national championship with Miami in 1987.

With that experience in mind, Johnson shared some lessons for Vick’s upcoming coaching career.

“First of all, congratulations,” Johnson said.

“Number one, professional football is coaching, college football is recruiting. That’s the key.

“The second thing is keep it simple, because you’re going to have a lot of changes with your staff. Keep it simple.

“Success is who makes the fewest mistakes, not who makes the most great plays.”

After giving him some good advice, Johnson gave Vick his first whistle to use as Norfolk State’s head coach.

Vick was officially announced as the new head coach on Friday.

“I understand the position that Norfolk State is in,” Vick told Fox Sports.

“I understand where we are. There’s going to be a lot of kids out there that are looking for opportunities to play football, to play at a level where they can continue to grow.

“I’m looking forward to that part, working with kids each and every day, as opposed to, you know, a two-day football camp.

“Instead of watching them grow over two days, now I get to coach them each and every day with a great coaching staff who’s going to assist in making sure that these kids play their best brand of football.”

Vick shared that he reached out to Deion Sanders for some advice after taking the job.

“I reached out to Deion just to have a conversation with him,” Vick said.

“The conversation was more so about philosophy and the most important steps to get started.

“He reminded me I’d have a bunch of people pulling for me.”

Vick was initially in conversations with Sacramento State for their vacant head coach position, but didn’t want to make a choice based on money.

“Sacramento State had a great situation. They had tons of NIL money and tons of opportunity,” Vick said.

“But I didn’t want to make my decision based on money. I wanted to make it based on what I could do and who I could sincerely help.

“And I think, you know, I can help on both sides. But I felt like it was great to go back home and do it in my backyard.

“And that was probably the deciding factor, having the chance to do it back where I grew up.”
