MH370 expert gives DAMNING verdict of new £55million search for doomed jet – & says ‘they’re looking in the WRONG place’

FOR over a decade, the wreckage of the missing passenger plane MH370 has remained lost – but one man believes that’s because investigators are looking in the wrong place.

Malaysian authorities announced last week a new £55million search for the missing jet – raising hopes the wreck would be found 10 years after it vanished.

Journalist Jeff Wise has made it his life’s mission to find out what happened to the doomed jet[/caption] Map showing the possible northern flight path of MH370, contrasting with the originally assumed southern route.

They are set to scour a new search area in the southern Indian Ocean with robot submarines and underwater microphones.

But American journalist Jeff Wise, who has made it his life’s mission to solve the world’s biggest aviation mystery, said officials are looking in the wrong place.

Wise has dedicated years of his life to solve what happened to the Malaysian Airlines flight after it vanished with 239 on board.

On March 8th 2014 at 12.41 am, flight MH370 took off from Kuala Lumpur Airport, bound for Beijing, a flight that was considered routine.

By 1.21 am, the plane had vanished from radar as it crossed into Vietnamese airspace and was never seen again.

The plane’s disappearance sparked the biggest search in aviation history and to this day the wreckage of the jet, presumed to have crashed in the Southern Indian Ocean, remains undiscovered.

Many theories have emerged in the ten years since it vanished, including the possibility of a depressurised cabin sparking a ghost flight into oblivion or a suicidal pilot carrying out a perfect ditching.

The official MH370 narrative suggests the plane made a bizarre U-turn, flying across Malaysia, turning northwest at Penang Island and across the Andaman Sea.

Data from military radar and satellite data from British company Immasat revealed that the plane flew on for hours towards the Southern Indian Ocean where it crashed in an unknown location.

But MH370 fanatic, Jeff Wise believes that there is a good reason the wreckage has never been discovered in the South Indian Ocean despite several searches.

He claims that a sophisticated hijacking by Russian agents was responsible for the plane being flown north into Kazakhstan.

He believes the Boeing 777 could have landed at one of three airports Kuqa Quici in China or Kyzlorda and Almaty in Kazakhstan.

Jeff was shunned from the MH370 independent group for his bizarre theory, a self-formed group of experts who came together to help try and solve the mystery.

But despite the backlash, the private pilot from New York stands by his hypothesis and makes an interesting point – the longer the plane is missing the more it proves his theory.

Talking about the disappearance exclusively to The Sun, Jeff said: “Only later in the days that followed did more and more strange things happen.

“There were so many twists and turns in this case. It was really like a compelling TV drama.

“I very early thought it went north based on almost nothing. But just my intuition has always been that.

“If the plane went south it was a suicide mission. Whoever did this their ultimate goal was to die and it also became clear, really early that this was an elaborate, sophisticated, motivated action.

“That had at least a layer of deception about it and so those things to me seemed fundamentally contradictory, why would you go to such lengths in order to die?”

Going off a gut feeling, former Jeff began looking at an alternative theory – what if the Inmarsat data had been interpreted wrong and the plane had actually turned North?

NORTH OR SOUTH?

On March 24 2014, the Malaysian Prime Minister confirmed that bombshell satellite data proved the plane had likely gone south after military radar last located MH370 over the Andaman Sea at 2.22 am.

An Immasat satellite over the South Indian Ocean had been able to track the plane further, receiving almost hourly signals until its last contact at 8.19 am.

However, the data was only able to show how far away MH370 had travelled from the satellite – not exactly in which direction.

Using a method known as Bayesian theory, experts eliminated thousands of possible routes creating a probability heat map in the South Indian Ocean.

The largest search in aviation in history was conducted in an area known as the seventh arc, the last known location of MH370 but nothing was found in the area mapped out by investigators.

Jeff said: “A couple of weeks after the plane disappeared, the Australian authorities revealed that the scientists at Inmarsat had done some mathematics, and determined that the plane had gone to the Southern Indian Ocean.

“They wound up publishing a whole book about their methodology. So we know quite a lot about how the Australians made their decision and it’s quite logically rigorous.

“I understand quite well why they assume that it went to the Southern seabed, and it’s not irrational. It makes a lot of sense.

“I was still troubled by this idea that somebody had done something very elaborate and sophisticated in order to die and so the question I asked myself was there any other way that this data could have been generated?

“Is there any sort of escape hatch from this otherwise inescapable conclusion that the plane went south?

“I found that indeed there was a possibility…”

Jeff, who appeared on Netflix’s MH370 documentary, believed there was a chance the plane could have been flown north and developed his alternative hijacker hypothesis.

He suggests that sophisticated Russian hijackers took control of the plane and were able to expertly pilot the Boeing 777 on a path most likely to avoid detection.

He believes that hijackers infiltrated the jet’s electronics system through a hatch in the first-class cabin and were able to trick investigators into thinking that the plane had been diverted south when it was taken north, eventually landing in the Russian puppet state of Kazakhstan.

When asked on his recent podcast MH370:Deep Dive, why not one country would have spotted the rogue Boeing 777 travelling through its airspace he explains they just simply wouldn’t have been expecting it.

He says: “A lot of countries, even if they have radar in certain areas, don’t always have it turned on.”

After the downing of MH17 by Russian rebels, the bizarre idea that Moscow may have been involved gained more traction.

“Essentially what I was positing was a cyber attack, a hijack, a cyber hijack and this was met with great scepticism, I would say, almost alarm.

Jeff Wise MH370 expert

But what would be the motive for Putin to hijack a plane and fly it north? A distraction for his illegal annexation of Crimea, Jeff says.

Jeff’s hijacker theory was met with backlash among the MH370 community with many calling his hypothesis a mere “conspiracy theory”.

Though it may seem far-fetched, a damning report that came out after the disappearance of MH370 in August 2014 suggested that Boeing 777s were highly vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

Jeff said: “This plane had a number of characteristics which were unusual but which would allow this data to be maliciously altered.

“Essentially what I was positing was a cyber attack, a hijack, a cyber hijack and this was met with great scepticism, I would say, almost alarm.

“…Tampering with this equipment requires a certain level of sophistication above what a typical 777 captain has and would require behaviour that a 777 captain, just by training and disposition, would never do.

At the time, the study by the Federal Aviation Association (FAA) revealed that software used on Boeing 777s and some other plane models could be susceptible to “software configuration”.

Allowing hackers to “wreak havoc” and “cause a mismatch between the aeroplane’s intended and actual configuration” by “preventing delivery of software, deleting software, or injecting inappropriate software during distribution.”

It concluded that there was “a significant risk” across “legacy, current, and next/new generation aircraft”.

SEA CREATURE CLUE

While Jeff has spent years working on his alternative hijacker theory – there is one issue that goes against his findings.

In July 2015, pieces of debris believed to be part of MH370 washed up in various locations around the Southern Indian Ocean.

While some fragments were “likely” pieces of the jet, the right flaperon found on the French island of la Reunion has been confirmed to be 100 per cent from MH370.

The plane part was covered in barnacles known as Lepas Anatifera and like the rings of a tree, their shells offer a record of their life and clues to where they may have travelled from and for how long.

Scientists hoped that they could track exactly where the piece of debris had come from using drift models to track when it entered the water.

But the French authorities have kept the flaperon under close guard meaning experts have been able to track the derbis’ true origins.

The barnacles also raised more questions as there appeared to be a one-year gap between the plane’s disappearance and the debris entering the water, according to Jeff.

Now Jeff is hoping to fund a project which would see an identical replica of the flaperon float from the likely crash site while tracking its movement and barnacle deposits.

He told The Sun: “The truth of the matter is we still don’t know how barnacles grow on floating debris in this stretch of the ocean sufficiently, whether the presence of the flaperon in la Reunion in July of 2015 is evidence for or against the hijack scenario.

“I want to get the data, and it’s remarkable to me that I have to do this myself.

“People are fascinated by this case. Why is nobody trying to open the box?

“Why are you not trying to find the evidence that will tell you what actually happened?”

NEW SEARCH

The Malaysian authorities announced last week few days that the search efforts for missing flight MH370 are set to resume – more than 10 years after the plane vanished.

Officials are set to scan a new search area in the southern Indian Ocean – and exploration company Ocean Infinity will receive a whopping £55million if it finds new wreckage of the jet.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed the government would be launching a fresh search.

He said in a statement that the government has a “responsibility and obligation” to those who lost loved ones when the plane vanished in March 2014.

“Our responsibility and obligation and commitment is to the next of kin. We hope this time will be positive, that the wreckage will be found and give closure to the families,” Loke said.

Underwater robotics company Ocean Infinity previously revealed to The Sun that it had submitted its search proposal for the new hunt.

The same organisation conducted the last search for MH370 which ended in 2018.

Why is MH370 still missing a decade on?

By Rebecca Husselbee, Assistant Foreign Editor

When an entire plane with 239 passengers mysteriously disappeared from the sky it left the world in utter disbelief – myself included.

How could an entire jet vanish into oblivion in a modern world when every move on land, sea and air is tracked? And how could it remain lost for a decade?

Having spent the last few years exploring the many theories on what MH370’s final moments might look like, from the bizarre to the complex, there is one hypothesis that answers every question for me.

Pilot Simon Hardy has left no stone unturned in his search for answers and having been at the helm of passenger flights for over 20 years he knows every inch of a Boeing 777 cockpit.

What makes his “technique, not a theory” even more compelling is his ability to access the world’s best flight simulators and sit in Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah’s seat as he commandeered the Malaysia Airlines and flew into the middle of the Southern Indian Ocean.

While others believe WSPR technology holds the key to finally discovering the wreckage, it’s never been proven and many in the MH370 community have questioned its reliability.

Many experts agree that the “suicidal” MH370 pilot was behind the plane’s demise – what we’ll never know is what his mindset was on that night and what motive he had to carry out such a chilling plan.

Passenger safety onboard in the aviation industry is rigorous and the likelihood of travellers being involved in a plane crash is 1 in 11 million.

But are airlines considering a pilot’s mental state when they sit at the controls of a jet that could be turned into a 300-ton death machine?

They told how three of the firm’s robot vessels were ready and waiting for the green light from officials.

The company said a new search would resume in a 15,000sqkm area off the coast of Western Australia, near the last known location of the doomed jet.

Malaysian officials have not confirmed the exact site for the new search.

Malaysian officials have not confirmed the exact site for the new search.

But Ocean Infinity’s plan has a “no find, no fee” meaning if the search is successful – the enormous £55million bill will have to be paid by the Malaysian government.

It’s thought that WSPR technology could play a big part in the search with Professor Simon Maskell acting as an adviser to the Ocean Infinity team.

Simon and his team at Liverpool University have been investigating the possibility of using WSPR technology to detect and track aircraft.

It’s also been revealed that the company may be looking at hydrophone data, sound picked up by underwater microphones, as part of their plans.

Not known, clear with picture desk

MARRIED At First Sight UK star Brad Skelly has hinted he’s found the one in a sizzling new photoshoot after declaring his partner ‘his wife’.

The controversial reality star was removed from the 2023 series over accusations of gaslighting his on-screen ‘wife’ Shona Manderson, ending the experiment.

Brad has now referred to Tori as his “wife”[/caption]

At the time, the experts were seen telling them to leave the show, considering their relationship not viable after witnessing Brad’s ‘controlling’ behaviour, including telling Shona to ‘shut up’ in front of the other newlyweds.

But now it seems he has moved on, posing for a topless photoshoot with his new girlfriend, Tori Addison, declaring her ‘his wife’ in the caption on Instagram.

In the photographs, Brad and Tori both pose just in a pair of light denim jeans, with Tori covering her breasts with her hands crossed over her chest.

Brad is exposing his heavily tattooed back to the camera, with his arm crossing over Tori’s neck and his hand resting on her head as she stares at the camera.

Another snap focuses on the pair’s taut tummys, showing off their abs, while a third shows them both looking forward at the camera, with Adam having his arm over her shoulder.

Among the commenters is MAFS relationship expert Paul Carrick Brunson, who simply posted a prayer emoji.

While Brad posted the pics with the caption ‘My Wife’ and a ring emoji, Tori notably isn’t wearing a wedding ring and doesn’t mention their assumed nuptials on her post.

Instead, she shared the photographs and wrote: “To the moon”.

It’s not known how long the pair have been together, but Tori shared photos of them together for the first time back in August.

The skin and beauty specialist has since shared loved-up posts of her and Brad on her Instagram, including one of them cuddled up together against a sunset.

Wrapped up in beanies and a coat, the pair are seen beaming, with Tori captioning the pic: “In a world full of 7 billion people, I’ll always choose you.”

They’ve also enjoyed a romantic getaway to Turkey together.

The new pictures are the first time Brad has posted her on his Instagram grid, though had shared snaps on his Stories.

Brad and Shona’s relationship ended at the instruction of the MAFS producers[/caption]

Brad’s new romance comes after he was publicly slammed by MAFS viewers and charity Women’s Aid for his behaviour on the 2023 series.

In one awkward scene, the heavily tattooed reality star appeared angry when Shona appeared upset that other couples on the show didn’t think they were genuine.

Brad snapped at Shona that she needed “external validation”, and told her to “let it go” before repeatedly demanding she “shut up” when she tried to add to the conversation.

It was ultimately decided that he and Shona should leave the series by show bosses, with the experts dishing out the news to them.

After the scenes aired, Brad claimed the edit of the episode did not reflect the full story, but admitted the scenes was “difficult to watch.”

He later told his Instagram followers: “Always remember you are only seeing snippets for drama. Try not to have an emotional resilience to a person you have never sat down and had a conversation with physically.”

Shona, however, thanked her fans for their support, and commented that she was “feeling the love from you all” in response to the messages.

By the end of that year, she had gone public with her new romance with fellow MAFS star, Matt Pillmoor, and the pair remain together to this day.

Is Honey browser extension safe and should I uninstall the tool?

HONEY is a browser extension that has been widely promoted by influencers to help customers find discounts.

But the software that seems too good to be true is facing accusations of misleading practices – here’s what we know.

Honey
Honey promised that it would automatically apply discount codes even if you missed them[/caption]

What is Honey?

Honey was founded in 2012, and by 2014 the extension had experienced explosive growth with over 900,000 users already using it.

Honey promised that it would automatically apply discount codes even if you missed them.

Deepak Tailor, founder of LatestFreeStuff.co.uk, explained: “Free discount code browser extensions should be on everyone’s browser. After ad blockers, I think it’s the most important thing you could have. It’s like free money.

“When you’re on a shop’s website, with the Chrome extension installed for free, you’ll see a little pop-up suggesting there may be some discount codes available. At checkout, you can try the codes and see if it saves you any money.

“These extensions save you from manually searching on Google and going to lots of different coupon websites. It’s there right where you want it.”

The service has been promoted by many popular influencers including MrBeast and Marques Brownlee.

It was bought by PayPal in 2020 for $4 billion and renamed PayPal Honey.

Getty
PayPal bought Honey in 2020 for $4 billion[/caption]

What has Honey been accused of?

YouTuber MegaLag claimed in a recent video that Honey selectively displays discount codes at checkout.

This supposedly prioritizes those that benefit its business partners over better deals available to users.

MegaLag explained that Honey sometimes shows smaller discounts, such as 5% off, even when more significant savings, like 30%, are available.

Honey partners with businesses that dictate which codes are promoted, potentially costing consumers money.

He further alleged that these actions contradict the extension’s promise to provide the best deals automatically.

Does this impact influencers who promote Honey?

YouTuber Cody Ko is just one of the internet personalities who has promoted the extension in the past
YouTube / PayPal Honey

MegaLag claimed the extension reattributes sales made through affiliate links, ensuring Honey, not the influencers, receives credit for the sale.

This denies influencers the commission they would normally receive for driving these forms of revenue purchases.

Users on X, formerly known as Twitter, criticized Honey for what they perceived as predatory practices.

One user warned, “If you’re using the Honey browser extension, remove it. This is predatory and bad for customers, brands, and content creators.”

Another highlighted previous security concerns raised by Amazon about Honey, stating, “Now this video from MegaLag shows in detail how Honey is outright stealing commissions from YouTubers.”

Honey and PayPal have yet to comment on these allegations.

Should you uninstall Honey?

Alamy
Honey and PayPal have yet to comment on these allegations[/caption]

Whilst the decision to uninstall Honey lies with the user themself, experts have advised customers that these Honey accusations do not paint a good picture of the company.

It has been suggested that Honey can no longer be trusted in light of the claims.

Given that there has not been an official statement on this yet, customers might want to wait and see what is said before making a decision.

But there are other ways to do price comparisons, even as simple as shopping around before purchasing.

Weedy dictator Assad’s Brit-born ‘Desert Rose’ wife ‘files for DIVORCE & wants to return to UK after couple exiled’

THE British-born wife of deposed Syrian tyrant Bashar al-Assad has filed for divorce, reports claim.

Asma al-Assad, 49, and her husband are holed up in Moscow after being forced into exile when Islamic rebels toppled the dictator.

AFP
Bashar al-Assad and his wife Asma arrive at the Elysee Palace in Paris on July 14, 2008[/caption] Assad family tree showing five generations of rule in Syria.

The former first lady, once known as “Rose of the Desert” for her elegance and charm, is said to be dissatisfied with her life under the guard of the Putin regime in Russia and wants to return to the UK.

She is also claimed to have filed for divorce from Assad, who she met in the early 1990s while vacationing in Syria.

They began a relationship when the future murderous tyrant moved to London to train as an ophthalmologist.

The pair then got married in 2000, the same year Assad suddenly inherited Syria’s dictatorship after his brother and heir to the regime Bassel died in a car crash.

But Asma has now applied to a Russian court for permission to leave Russia for Britain – and her husband – reports the Jerusalem Post.

Her application is being evaluated by the Russian authorities, it is reported.

Butcher Assad and his family are believed to be under “severe restrictions” in Moscow, and he is barred from leaving the city or engaging in political activities.

His assets and money in Russia are reported to be frozen – but he is claimed to have moved some 270 kilograms of gold and £1.6 billion to Moscow.

Assad or his clan are believed to own dozens of apartments in the Russian capital.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov today rejected claims Asma had filed for divorce.

He said: “No they do not correspond to reality.”

The tyrant and his family were offered a safe haven by Vladimir Putin, who spirited the toppled president out of Syria on December 8 – shortly before his country fell into the hands of rebels.

Asma and the couple’s three children were already in Russia, where reports say she has been undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, an aggressive form of blood and bone marrow cancer.

Reports claim she would prefer to be treated in the UK.

Who is Asma al-Assad?

by Sayan Bose, Foreign News Reporter

DEPOSED dictator Bashar al-Assad’s British-born wife was once seen as a symbol of freedom and woman empowerment in the repressive Middle East.

But it did not take long for Asma al-Assad, who was described as a “Rose in the Desert”, to become a hallmark of oppression while serving as the “First Lady of Hell”.

The former first lady of Syria is now in exile in Russia after Islamic rebels toppled her butcher husband’s regime, ousting the dictator and his family.

Born in England in 1975, Asma is the daughter of Fawaz Akhras, 78, a consultant cardiologist, and Sahar, 75, a diplomat at the Syrian embassy.

She grew up in a £1million mansion in West London and graduated with a computer science degree from King’s College.

She met Assad in the 1990s and they wed in 2000.

As the first lady of Syria, Asma – who does not wear a burqa or a veil to cover her face – left a strong impression of an independent woman on the world stage.

She told a friend that she was the “real dictator” in the family, according to The Telegraph.

Asma symbolised Syria’s relatively liberal political climate where women had more rights than in other Islamic nations, and shaped Assad’s image as a moderate leader.

In 2010 Vogue magazine described her as a “desert rose” and a “long-limbed beauty with a trained analytic mind”.

But her liberal fame was short-lived and quickly collapsed as her husband began a brutal saga of torture and bloodshed against the Syrians.

Assad started to wipe out the opposition groups in the city of Homs which sparked the Syrian Civil War which killed 500,000 people while six million were left as refugees.

As a strong support to her husband, Asma is said to have orchestrated policies for his oppressive regime which controlled everything from access to the internet to subsided food rations.

She controlled major economic policies in the country that were marked as repressive.

As her role within Assad’s dictatorship grew, she was unable to maintain her early image of the liberated woman operating at the heart of power in a Muslim country.

Her name soon became synonymous with her husband’s atrocious regime – and she ended up being sanctioned by many countries for her role during Syria’s civil war.

In Moscow, the Assad clan is linked to luxury properties in both the 990ft City of Capitals complex and the nearby 1,226ft Federation Tower.

His extended family owns dozens of properties here and elsewhere in Moscow, but it is believed the family now resides in official Russian government accommodation.

One week before Assad’s loss of power, the couple’s eldest son Hafez Bashar al-Assad, 23, had been in Russia defending his thesis at Moscow State University.

His mother Asma had celebrated with him in Russia when he was awarded his degree at the same university last year.

The Sun reported how Asma’s parents left their North West London suburb home early in December – as rebel forces launched their advance on Damascus.

The dramatic rise and fall of dictator Bashar al-Assad

Assad’s rule over Syria ended in dramatic fashion after rebel forces stormed Damascus in a surprise offensive, forcing the dictator to flee to Russia.

This marked the conclusion of a regime notorious for its brutality, including chemical attacks, mass detentions, and the decimation of Syrian cities.

His life took a dramatic turn in 1994 when his elder brother, Bassel, the family’s chosen heir, died in a car accident.

Bashar was abruptly recalled to Syria and groomed for power.

Initially, hope stirred for reform as Bashar promised modernisation, anti-corruption measures, and political openness.

But the so-called “Damascus Spring” was short-lived.

Within a year, Assad cracked down on dissenters, signalling the beginning of his authoritarian rule.

The Assad regime quickly devolved into a kleptocracy, with Assad and his extended family siphoning wealth while suppressing opposition.

The Syrian Civil War became a geopolitical quagmire.

Assad, backed by Russia and Iran, portrayed himself as a bulwark against terrorism while cynically releasing jihadist prisoners to bolster extremist factions.

This fuelled the rise of groups like ISIS, reshaping global terror.

The end of Assad’s reign came abruptly in December 2024, as rebel forces launched a lightning offensive, exploiting weakened Syrian defences.

Rebels captured Damascus in a lightning campaign, declaring the capital “free” and marking the end of years of brutal authoritarian rule.

With Russia mired in Ukraine and Iran preoccupied with regional conflicts, Assad’s regime was left vulnerable.

Rebels stormed Aleppo, marking a symbolic victory, and Assad fled Damascus.

Assad left aboard a military plane amid rumours of its crash before resurfacing in Moscow, where Vladimir Putin granted him asylum.

It comes as an apparent Russian conspiracy to distribute false news about an al-Assad ‘aircraft accident’ has been exposed.

The Ukrainian Centre for Strategic Communication and Information Security claimed on X that Russia “hid their trail” in assisting al-Assad’s escape by circulating fake claims that he died in a crash.

Meanwhile, opposition forces took control of key cities, toppled Assad’s statues, and announced plans for a transitional government.

The fall of Assad deals a blow to allies Russia and Iran, with both withdrawing assets from Syria.

Cops warned at the time the trio could face life in prison if convicted.

George Gascon, the Los Angeles District Attorney General at the time, described the attack as “brazen.”

“This brazen attack is a grim reminder of the dangers posed by follow-home robberies, a disturbing trend that we are committed to cracking down on with the full force of the law,” he said.
