The countdown to Christmas doesn’t have to be stressful though – or expensive.

Graham Nicolson, Group Buying Director at Aldi Scotland, is sharing his top tips for navigating supermarket shopping during the most wonderful time of the year.

To help customers make the most of their shopping trips, Graham is offering his five hacks to save both time and money on the big Christmas shop, ensuring the season stays merry and bright.

Shop Exclusive Scottish Products

Aldi Scotland takes pride showcasing the best of Scottish produce, especially during the festive season, which shoppers can hear about first in the online and in-store Aldi leaflet.

Graham highlights some must-try items from this year’s range:

• Specially Selected Honey Roast Hot Smoked Salmon Side (£9.99 for 450g)
• Specially Selected Cheddar & Chorizo Cheese Bake (£2.99 for 150g)
• Glen Marnoch Single Malt Whisky (£18.20 for 70cl)

“The partnership between our buying team and our extensive network of local suppliers ensures that shoppers can enjoy high-quality locally produced festive foods, at incredible prices,” Graham explains.

Avoid the Festive Rush

To avoid the crowds and ensure you have first pick of Aldi’s top festive offers, Graham reveals the exact day and time you should hit your nearest store.

He says: “Shopping earlier in the week and at quieter times of the day can make for a much calmer experience.

“Our shelves are restocked daily but heading in on a Tuesday or Wednesday if you can, especially before 10am, is a great way to avoid the weekend rush.”

Love Your Leftovers

The holidays often leave families with surplus food, that can easily go to waste.

Graham suggests turning leftovers into new meals for extra savings.

He says: “Look for recipes that utilise lots of fresh ingredients that are typically top of your festive shopping list.

“This means you don’t have to go out of your way to source any unusual or expensive items, and you can make the most out of your Christmas supermarket shop.”

Maximise Savings with Specialbuys

Aldi is renowned for its middle aisle bargains.

To take advantage of these in the lead up to Christmas, Graham says: “Preparation is key when it comes to festive shopping. Start by making a detailed list of your Christmas essentials and stick to it.

“Keep an eye on weekly Aldi Specialbuys as these offers rotate regularly and include unbeatable discounts on Scottish produce.”

Aldi Scotland is currently offering exclusive deals such as Scottish Christmas Cured Smoked Salmon (£3.79) and the Specially Selected Crackling Gammon Joint which serves 16 (£18.99).

The new large Melt-In-The-Middle pudding (£6.99) is also on sale from today, December 19.

These products not only save money but also add a unique twist to festive menus.

Stay Calm

This year, Aldi Scotland has launched the ‘Heidspace’ campaign to help customers reduce holiday stress.

With tools like downloadable meal planners and to-do lists available for free on Aldi Scotland’s social channels, shoppers can prepare early and stay organised.

Graham said: “The festive season should be about joy, not stress. Our Heidspace resources are designed to make planning as seamless as possible so our customers can enjoy time with loved ones.”

He concluded: “At Aldi Scotland, we know that Christmas is a special time for families. That’s why we’re dedicated to offering high-quality festive foods at prices everyone can afford.

“By planning ahead, shopping local, and taking advantage of our exclusive deals, shoppers can enjoy a smooth, stress-free shopping experience this festive season.”

Roy Keane blasts Marcus Rashford for being distracted by ‘watches and off field stuff’ as star set for Man Utd exit

ROY KEANE believes Marcus Rashford will struggle to rediscover his hunger at Manchester United.

And he reckons a “change of scenery” will do the England forward good as he looks to recapture his best form.

Man Utd legend Roy Keane believes Rashford has lost his hunger[/caption]

New boss Ruben Amorim axed Rashford from the squad for the derby win over Man City at the weekend.

And three days later the 27-year-old sensationally admitted he is ready for a new challenge after spending the last two decades at Old Trafford.

That may happen next month if there is interest but there are no guarantees any clubs will make an acceptable bid.

Keane himself left United in controversial circumstances back in November 2005 and feels Rashford needs a move.

Speaking to the Stick to Football podcast, brought by Sky Bet, he said: “My only warning for players like that – if you lose that hunger, it’s hard to get it back.

“We know that for great players, it’s nothing to do with money – it’s about the next challenge, and your pride.

“Marcus seems to have lost his way, and he’s lost his hunger.

“We’ve mentioned watches and all the stuff off the field, and if he’s a bit distracted by that, it might be hard to get it back.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

“He might get it back with a change of club and scenery, but I don’t think he’ll get the hunger back at United.”

Keane moved to Celtic after agreeing to leave United 19 years ago and feels it will be best for all parties if Rashford finds a new club.

He added: “I don’t actually mind what he said, although it’s a bit long, but it’s spot on.

“Sometimes a deal just works for everybody – it’s been going on for a year or two now, there’s obviously a bit of talent there and he’s been at the club since he was a kid.

“A change would probably do him a world of good, for him and his team and family to go abroad.”

Rashford has been around the United first team for nine years now.

But ex-England forward Ian Wright says it is obvious he is not enjoying it anymore.

Wright told the same podcast: “When you look at how he’s been playing the last few years, he’s not happy. We’ve seen that, with the managers he’s had, different managers and different things going on.

“The fact is, he’s got to a [high] level, and he’s not quite there. I believe that he’s somebody that is continually trying to improve himself.

“Maybe the change, and being a player that’s been brought in and hasn’t come from the academy, he can get himself going.

Man Utd player ratings vs Man City as sensational Amad Diallo turns derby on its head

AMAD DIALLO left Manchester City stunned as he turned the derby on its head.

The flying winger won a penalty, converted by Bruno Fernandes, in the dying embers to level it up.

But the best was yet to come as Amad flicked past an onrushing Ederson before expertly slotting in a dramatic winner from a tight angle deep into injury time.

Here’s how SunSport’s Neil Custis rated the Man Utd players…

Andre Onana – 6

He just does not fill you with confidence. Does not command his area and as we found out midweek in Plzen, his distribution from the back is a major plus for the opposition.

Wasn’t tested that much however.

Lisandro Martinez – 7

Looking a calmer presence under Amorim than he did before when he seemed to want to live up to his nickname from his Ajax days of ‘The Butcher of Amsterdam’.

Great through ball at the end to pick out Amad’s run for the winner.

Harry Maguire – 8

Had a great battle with Erling Haaland which the United man won.

The right call to bring the former captain in for such a big game. Looks like he suits the position in the centre of that back three.

Matthijs de Ligt 78′ – 7

A decent enough performance. Looked more comfortable alongside Maguire than other centre-back partners.

Diogo Dalot – 5

Mistimed his jump to be beaten to the ball by Josko Gvardiol for the City opener. Did not create enough going forward from his wing-back role.

Bruno Fernandes – 8

Missed a big chance after being put through by Hojlund and clipping the ball wide.

But when the moment comes from the penalty spot he is a cool head in the hottest of atmospheres sending Ederson the wrong way to equalise

Manuel Ugarte – 7

Sat in front of the back four and negated much of what Phil Foden was trying to do for the home side.

Noussair Mazraoui 78′ – 8

The best of the summer buys. Used as the right wing back on this occasion and is able to adjust to whatever is asked of him. One of United’s best performers on the day.

Mason Mount 13′ – 6

Looked very close to tears when he had to come off after early in the game. He is just getting no luck whatsoever with injuries and has not had a decent run since joining the club.

Amad Diallo 90′ – 9

The greatest moment of his career so far with a memorable derby winner. A brilliant run first of all to meet Martinez’ pass, he then clipped the ball past Ederson and while it was a scuffed finish he got it on target.

Had almost grabbed an equaliser with a flick header before that which was well saved by Ederson.

Then was alert to Nunes back pass to win the penalty that did lead to United drawing level.

Rasmus Hojlund 78′ – 6

Most we saw of him was a head to head confrontation with Walker when the City player slumped to the ground and a little fall of his own when he tried to win a pen.

But then he provided a great through ball for Fernandes which should have brought the equaliser.

Subs

Kobbie Mainoo 13′ – 6

Did a solid job as he came on in a deeper role than Mount and Fernandes moved forward

Joshua Zirkzee 78′ – 6

Not the man who is going to come on and change a game, but he did well to hold onto possession in the closing seconds.

Antony 78′ – 6

Came on to try and make a difference but is lacking the confidence which a lack of starts brings.

Leny Yoro 78′ – 6

Continues to ease himself back to full fitness after that summer injury.

Victor Lindelof 90′ – 6

No time to have any influence on the game.

“His statement is good – he realises that he has to leave United.

“I will always protect him because of what he’s done – especially off the field – and the community will always protect him.

“But for him, there’s only so far you can go where you continue protecting him before he has to go and do it himself.

“It should happen as soon as it can.”

Paul Pogba’s brother sentenced to three-year prison term for shocking £11m blackmail plot against ex-Man Utd ace

PAUL POGBA’S brother has been sentenced to a three-year prison term for his role in an £11million blackmail plot against the former Manchester United star.

Mathias Pogba will serve one year of his sentence with an electronic bracelet after the other two were suspended.

He was also fined £16,500 by a Paris court on Thursday.

Mathias, 34, was first held by police in September 2022 after attempting to extort £11m from his brother.

Ex-Red Devils and Juventus midfielder Pogba, 31, told authorities a group of childhood friends, which included his older sibling, had requested money for “protection services” stretching back 13 years.

A judicial investigation was opened to look into the allegations of extortion with a weapon, kidnapping or kidnapping in an organised gang, and participation in a criminal association.

Mathias turned himself in to authorities investigating the case before being placed in custody.

And he remained in prison until December 2022, with the terms of his release banning him from contacting Pogba and their mother.

Now, the former Crawley Town, Wrexham and Crewe star has been handed a three-year prison sentence.

Mathias was found guilty of attempted extortion, which saw him put pressure on Pogba, his family and business contacts to obtain an £11m payment.

Two years of his sentence have been suspended.

While the remaining one will be served with an electronic tag.

Meanwhile, five other defendants were found guilty of extortion, kidnapping and detention, as well as participating in a criminal association.

They were all childhood friends or acquaintances of French World Cup winner Pogba.

And they have been sentenced to prison terms of up to eight years, while also receiving fines between £16,500 and £33,000.

Pogba is now a free agent after having his Juventus contract ripped up following a positive test result for doping.

He was banned for 18 months in August 2023 and is now looking to secure a new club ahead of his return to football in March.

Shock moment teen girls punch cop in HEAD, rip out each others’ hair & beat woman to the floor in train station brawl

SHOCKING footage shows the moment teenage girls punched a cop in the head before ripping out each others’ hair in a train station brawl.

Horrifying CCTV captured the schoolgirls punching and kicking security staff at Barnham Railway Station, West Sussex, earlier this year.

The mass brawl took place in March this year

The chaos at Barnham railway station was sparked after a clash between the group and another girl on March 30, Easter Saturday.

The five girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were filmed punching an officer in the head, dragging a female by her hair and kicking her while she was on the floor.

During the attack, members of the public, train staff and police who attempted to intervene were assaulted.

Two women were thrown about by the girls before police who tried to arrest them were kicked and headbutted.

Meanwhile, a train safety officer needed hospital treatment after he was smashed in the face with his own radio.

One girl even held a clump of hair aloft above her head after ripping it from the head of a train passenger, a court heard.

All five schoolgirls, two aged 16, two aged 15 and one aged 13 at the time, pleaded guilty to affray and assaults on train staff, police and members of the public, reports The Argus.

The three youngest girls were given nine month referral orders and the two older girls were given 12 month intensive referral orders at Brighton Magistrates Court yesterday, December 17.

District Judge Teresa Szagun said videos of the incident showed the girls were relentless, completely out of control and showing an ongoing determination to wreak havoc, describing it as “chaos, mayhem and bedlam”.

Judge Szagun told one girl, now aged 17: “You were involved from start to finish for over an hour.

“You were seen to kick another girl over and over again while she was on the ground.

“Your aggression then turned towards the innocent bystander who was trying to stop this.

“Your reaction to realising you had a clump of her hair in your hand is horrific, it is almost as if you are holding it up as a trophy and laughing.

“This spurred you on to further violence, there was an ongoing determination to wreak havoc.”

The judge told another 16-year-old member of the group: “Your behaviour was really aggressive.

“You were intimidating, squaring up to the officers. You were prepared to pummel an officer in the back of the head.

“Another officer is taking off his vest when you take the opportunity to have a swing at him as well as swinging at another officer when he thinks you’ve calmed down.

“He was taken unawares.”

‘CHAOS AND BEDLAM’

The judge told another girl: “You were completely out of control and relentless. If you were adults, I would be sentencing you to custody.”

Meanwhile, a fourth teenager was told: “You just kept going. I don’t think any compensation is going to make any impact on the individuals who must have been so frightened.”

Paula Bristow, defending one of the girls, said the behaviour was “out of character” for the teen.

Ms Bristow said: “She is doing well at school and this was completely out of character.

“There is an element of mass hysteria in this incident.”

One of the group was described as an exemplary student while the others were described as bright, capable and intelligent, a court heard.

Compensation will be paid to the woman who lost a clump of hair, her mother who she was travelling with and another police officer who also had her hair pulled out.

Hunter flies in for a touchdown against the Utah Utes on November 16

This week, Hunter was named an Academic All-American.

It was uncovered that the 21-year-old posted a 3.798 cumulative GPA at Colorado.

“The junior from Suwanee, Georiga, is an anthropology major carrying a 3.798 cumulative GPA,” the Buffaloes press release read.

“In the fall of 2023, Hunter earned a 4.0 GPA and followed that up with a spring 2024 semester GPA of 3.908, earning him first-team All-Academic Team honors.”

The release also revealed that Hunter became the first Academic All-American to win the Heisman since former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow in 2007.

Hunter’s academic advisor, LaTonya Watson, shared in the release just how much effort he put into the classroom.

“Travis came to Colorado with a champion mindset transcending the football field to the classroom,” said Watson.

“Along with that mindset, he set high goals and standards that continue to motivate him to be the best version of himself as he engages in his studies.

“The Herbst Academic Center staff is equally as proud of Travis’s academic accomplishments as his athletic accolades.”

Hunter put up eye-popping numbers on offense and defense this season, recording 1,152 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns while posting four interceptions and 11 pass breakups on defense.

He will leave Boulder for the NFL next April and is considered to be a top-five draft pick.

But first, Hunter will play his last game with the Buffaloes football program on December 28.

He and the No. 23 Colorado squad will face the No. 17 BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl at 7:30 Eastern and air on ABC.

Hunter joined the Buffaloes with NFL icon Deion Sanders and his two sons, Shilo and quarterback Shedeur Sanders, before the 2023 campaign.

Shedeur and Hunter are expected to be top NFL Draft picks in 2025.

Hunter gave his appreciation to both Deion and Shedeur at the Heisman ceremony last week.

“I want to thank Coach Prime, Shedeur,” he said in New York City.

“Man, y’all changed my life forever. That one simple phone call, Shedeur, and look where I’m at.

“Man, that’s crazy bro. It’s crazy.

“I’m trying not to get emotional because I know our last game coming up soon.”

Five common energy-draining ‘vampire appliances’ you must shut off to save 20% on your electricity bills

WITH the costs soaring all around the world, millions of Americans are on the lookout for simple ways to effectively slash their expenses.

A recent CNET survey found that a staggering 78% of Americans are stressed about rising energy costs, the publication reported.

Getty
One expert has listed five common ‘vampire devices’ that drain the energy the most[/caption]
Getty
Luckily, there are three easy ways to slash the costs this season – scroll down to see more[/caption]

“Utility bills going up the way they are become a greater portion of someone’s income, and it is concerning,” said Sequoya Cross, vice president of energy storage at Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions.

As many of cash-strapped Americans are searching for tips to cut their energy use, one expert has listed five ”vampire devices” that could be responsible for the hefty bills.

An energy vampire device is an appliance that continues to use electricity, even when it is not in use.

According to the NRDC, almost one-quarter of home energy use is spent by energy vampire devices, including culprits such as:

  • Phone chargers
  • Laptop chargers
  • Coffee machines
  • ‘Getting ready appliances’ (e.g. hairdryers, hair straighteners)
  • Video game consoles.

In the interest of saving almost 20% of your monthly electricity bill, and 4.6% of electricity-induced CO2 emissions annually, how can you slay these vampire devices?

Here’s how…

  1. Identify and unplug them

This is the easiest way to make sure your devices are not using unnecessary energy.

By simply unplugging an appliance immediately after use, you have the best control over this passive energy usage, and it is easiest to implement for devices you don’t use often or for long periods of time (e.g. rice cookers or shaving razors).

  1. Use a power strip

Another pro tip is using a power strip, which is a convenient way to group appliances, and slash power to them through one easily accessible plug.

In some models, you’re able to cut power to unused devices while still continuing to use others plugged into the same power strip.

If possible, have the power strip plugged in somewhere that is easy for you to reach – this will make it easier to unplug when necessary.

4 ways to keep your energy bills low

Laura Court-Jones, Small Business Editor at Bionic shared her tips.

1. Turn your heating down by one degree

You probably won’t even notice this tiny temperature difference, but what you will notice is a saving on your energy bills as a result. Just taking your thermostat down a notch is a quick way to start saving fast. This one small action only takes seconds to carry out and could potentially slash your heating bills by £171.70.

2. Switch appliances and lights off

It sounds simple, but fully turning off appliances and lights that are not in use can reduce your energy bills, especially in winter. Turning off lights and appliances when they are not in use, can save you up to £20 a year on your energy bills

3. Install a smart meter

Smart meters are a great way to keep control over your energy use, largely because they allow you to see where and when your gas and electricity is being used.

4. Consider switching energy supplier

No matter how happy you are with your current energy supplier, they may not be providing you with the best deals, especially if you’ve let a fixed-rate contract expire without arranging a new one. If you haven’t browsed any alternative tariffs lately, then you may not be aware that there are better options out there.

  1. Share devices

If you and your roommate or colleague both use devices that have the same charging port, it might be worth considering sharing a charger.

This is especially effective if you both have busy schedules and you are unlikely to be using the device at the same time.

As long as the last user remembers to unplug the device, it makes for one less energy vampire to keep track of, advised the expert at GU Planning and Facilities Management.

Watch moment Putin appears to confirm his secret CHILDREN as he makes bombshell unguarded slip about his ‘little ones’

THIS is the surprising moment Vladimir Putin appears to slip up on live TV and confirm he has two secret children.

The Russian tyrant revealed he enjoys watching films with his “little ones” in a bizarre annual call-in amid claims he has a pair of young sons with Olympic gymnast lover Alina Kabaeva.

Vladimir Putin let slip the biggest hint of his potential offspring so far during a marathon televised question and answer session in Moscow today.

Rumours over secret sons have surrounded the despot for years after independent journalists uncovered a potential fresh family growing.

The unverified claims say the ageing tyrant and long-term partner Kabaeva – a woman decades younger than him – actually have boys already.

Ivan, 9 and Vladimir, 5, are said to be the latest two additions to the Putin family tree.

He has never confirmed these children with the Kremlin officially stating he has just two daughters – Maria Vorontsova, 39, and Katerina Tikhonova, 38.

A third secret child is also said to exist known as DJ Luiza Rozova, 21, – given to Vlad by former cleaner Svetlana Krivonogikh.

Putin has remained tight lipped around his personal life for years as he rarely opens up about his home and family publicly.

But in an unguarded moment from today’s address, he let down his mask and mentioned watching fairy tale films with “my little ones”.

The 72-year-old spoke about his desire for more patriotic films to be seen by the youth in Russia.

He personally mentioned traditional fairy tales as he pleaded with film producers to stop going abroad and instead stay close to Moscow.

Vlad said: “This drives our own production, including film production, that’s true.

“And considering such a unifying uplift of society, the kind of uplift that brings people together, is, of course, very important.

“Our historic fairy tales and epic tales are being revived.

“I myself sometimes watch these with pleasure with my little ones.”

State propaganda channel RT later translated his words as  “my junior family members”.

A beaming smile quickly appeared on his face as the words slipped out of his mouth.

The kids, Ivan and Vladimir, are believed to live with Kabaeva in several of Putin’s many lavish homes across different regions of Russia.

Russian Investigative media outlet, Dossier Centre once said: “The sons live in isolated residences, travelling on yachts and business jets.

“They are guarded by FSO [Federal Protective Service] officers, with nannies, governesses and professional trainers by their side around the clock.

“The brothers have little contact with their peers and see little of their parents, but they appreciate the rare moments they manage to spend with their father.”

They do not attend schools and are taught in Putin’s palaces – like the royal children of Russian tsars.

The children have never been seen in public and live out of sight behind the palace walls, the journalists working to uncover them say.

Vlad has only ever spoken about his family on a few occasions.

In one angered rant he said: “I have a private life in which I do not permit interference. It must be respected.”

He continued to blast “those who with their snotty noses and erotic fantasies prowl into others’ lives”.

Putin’s latest lover

When Putin was first rumoured to be dating Alina Kabaeva it came as a bombshell to many due to her past.

In 2004 she posed almost nude for Maxim magazine in Russia.

The shoot – in which she wore just fur – was described as “full of sex” by a photographer.

Kabaeva was also photographed naked apart from strategically-placed lilacs as part of a Russian project called “Twelve Months” by Ekaterina Rozhdestvenskaya.

She first shot to fame as a teen when she competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and won a bronze medal.

Four years later she romped home with a gold medal and was soon hailed as one of Russia’s most flexible women.

It was around this time that Alina — who was stripped of six of her world championship medals for doping — first met Putin.

He was married and she was in a relationship with a police officer at the time.

In spring 2008 a newspaper owned by Putin’s ex-KGB spy colleague Alexander Lebedev claimed Alina was romantically linked to Putin.

They were then dogged with rumours of a pregnancy multiple times over the years – which Alina played up to.

In the years since her relationship with Vlad was first suggested Kabaeva appeared on a Russian show called One Hundred Questions for Adults.

She was quickly questioned about her private life by an audience full of children.

In one clip, was asked by a young boy if she had met her “ideal man” to which she replied giggling: “I have.”

She was then asked who the mystery man in her life was but would only reveal “he’s a very good man, a great man”.

Kabaeva added: “Sometimes you feel so happy that you even feel scared.”

Despite this Putin has always denied their relationship.

Tyreek Hill drops cryptic post and hints at shock Miami Dolphins exit as fans rage ‘what the hell is this?’

TYREEK Hill has sent Miami Dolphins fans into a frenzy with a cryptic social media post.

The superstar Miami Dolphins wide receiver wrote one sentence on his X account that set off alarms across his fanbase.

Hill hinted at an exit from the Miami Dolphins in his post[/caption]

The Dolphins aren’t having the season the likely expected to have in 2024.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed four and a half games with a concussion and the team sits at 6-8 on the season.

The team is likely out of playoff contention, and some of the stars of the team might be upset with the direction of the franchise.

It is possible that Hill might be one of those players upset with the team, as he shared this short message on X:

“It’s time for me to go coach,” he wrote.

Those seven words sent Dolphins fans into a frenzy with many believing it was his way of hinting at an exit from the team.

“What the hell is this? Why are you doing this publicly?” one fan said.

“He don’t wanna play with Tua no more,” another fan said.

“You’re always welcome back here in KC!” a third fan said.

“Giving up on the team that quick?” a fourth fan said.

“You announcing your retirement?” a fifth fan said.

It would take a trade or retirement to get Hill out of Miami, as he is under contract for the next two seasons with the Dolphins.

While he isn’t having his best season in 2024, the last two years were the best seasons of his career, and he has publicly expressed a desire to remain with the team.

The Dolphins certainly have some work to do this offseason to get the team back into winning ways, but Hill will likely be on the roster for it.

Hill seems to know that as well, as he recognized the massive amounts of attention his post got on Wednesday.

NFL on Netflix

Netflix will be the global home of the NFL on Christmas Day this year.

The streaming service will show two special holiday games live around the world.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs kick off the double header against the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 pm ET.

And they’ll be followed by the Baltimore Ravens at the Houston Texans from 4.30 pm ET.

That game will also feature a halftime show from Beyonce in her home town of Houston, Texas.

Netflix also confirmed their broadcast team for the day, led by Fox NFL commentator Greg Olsen and former Good Morning Football host Kay Adams.

“Tweet blew more than I expected,” he wrote.

“Got yall exactly how I want.”

The Dolphins have three games left this season and can still finish with an above-.500 record, but they would have to win out.

They play games against the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets to finish the season.

It is unlikely, but possible that the Dolphins could make the playoffs with a 9-8 record.

Steam’s Winter Sale to start in hours as gamers are hoping for hefty discounts on big-name games like Baldur’s Gate 3

Steam Winter Sale 2024 wishlist featuring game discounts.

STEAM’s Winter Sale 2024 is about to kick off in just a few hours, and PC gamers have already prepared their wishlist for the big discounts.

Many players took to Reddit to voice their hopes for the last sale of the year, sharing their wishlists and plans.

Big-name titles like God of War Ragnarok (pictured) and Elder Ring are also among the most wishlisted[/caption]

Steam Winter Sale 2024 starts at 6pm UK Time / 1pm ET / 10am PT today, December 19, 2024, and here’s what’s on PC gamers’ wishlist for the sale.

Players who have already finished Baldur’s Gate 3 once (or twice), are already looking for similar titles to scratch that CRPG itch.

Larian Studios’ previous games, like Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel, are perfect replacements for BG3, and fans are hoping to get them for cheap.

Baldur’s Gate 3 itself is still high on many people’s wishlists, as players are waiting for deeper discounts than the 20% off we’ve seen during previous sales.

Redditor “MrNigel117” is looking for games giving off indie vibes, like boss rush bullet-hell Void Rains Upon Her Heart, and branching narrative gem Slay the Princess.

He would also appreciate challenging metroidvania Nine Sols and action RPG Atlyss.

Apart from smaller games, other big-name titles from the last few years, like Hogwarts Legacy, God of War Ragnarök, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, and Elden Ring, rank high on people’s wishlists.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is also mentioned frequently, as players are keen on playing the first part of the remake trilogy ahead of FF7 Rebirth’s PC release in January.

A lot of gamers would be happy to pick up any good game, if it is discounted by more than 75% or even 90% of its regular price.

The last big Steam campaign, the Autumn Sale, ended just a few weeks ago, on December 4, and brought quite a few deals.

While many players are excited about the Steam Winter Sale, some were not sure if they’d be buying anything at all.

Reddit user “24OuncesofFaygoGrape” pointed out that Steam might be running sales too often.

“I’m still recovering from the sale that ended last week, probably won’t get anything,” they wrote.

Other players also shared they are likely getting nothing from the upcoming sale, as their personal backlogs of purchased games they never finished are only getting longer.

Nevertheless, Steam’s Winter Sale usually offers more discounted games than the Autumn campaign.

Valve already teased a very short list of games that will be included in the sale.

In a trailer posted on Steam’s official Twitter/X account, we could spot the following games:

  • Metal Slug Tactics
  • Assassin’s Creed: Mirage
  • Core Keeper
  • Carx Street
  • Helldivers 2
  • Manor Lords
  • The Last of Us Part 1
  • Castle Crashers
  • Planet Coaster 2
  • TCG Card Shop Simulator
  • Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Final Fantasy 16
  • Sonic x Shadow Generations

This is just a small selection of the games that will be featured during the Steam Winter Sale, but many of them are very recent and highly rated titles.

The trailer ends with a massive collage of other game covers, among which we noticed games like Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Shadow of War, Frostpunk 2, Dredge, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and many more.

How big discounts these will get, we will have to wait until the sale kicks off in a few hours.

The Steam Winter Sale 2024 will run until January 2 at  6pm UK Time / 1pm ET / 10am PT, so players will have plenty of time to pick the best deals.

Trolls say mum’s ‘taken the fun out of Christmas’ with her giant gift haul as others dub it ‘depressing’

A FAMILY have been accused of “taking the fun out of Christmas” after sharing a video of their enormous Christmas present haul.

The clip, which was shared on social media, showcased a Christmas tree completely surrounded by a ginormous mountain of presents.

The gifts were also all meticulously organised in rows and groups[/caption]

And not only were there a lot of gifts, but they were all meticulously organised, in rows and groups – presumably depending on who they were for.

There was no floor in sight, as so many gorgeous gifts covered the space.

A variety of different wrapping papers were used, filling the room with colour and festive spirit.

Alongside the clip, the mother asked: “What is the most popular gift to give on Christmas?”

But unfortunately, the question didn’t get many responses.

Instead, many were left fuming by the vast amount of presents in the intentionally innocent clip.

The video’s comment section was flooded with remarks from angry social media users, insisting that such gauche displays of wealth “take the fun out of Christmas”.

Not only this, but people were stunned at how the family could afford so many gifts.

One person wrote: “I’m sorry but getting that much stuff would actually takes the fun out of Christmas.”

Another mum commented: “When you can only afford to give your 3 kids 3 gifts each this year – this hurts.”

Meanwhile, someone else agreed: “I will have zero presents under a tree unless I buy them for myself.

Holidays can be very depressing to me when I see this.”

At the same time, another person said: “In my 15 years of my life I have received less gifts than in this video.”

Not only this, but others argued that the amount of presents in the video could be because they have a large family and lots of people to buy for.

Why do shops start selling Christmas stock so early?

Charlotte Harrington, the manager at Summerhill’s garden centre in Basildon, Essex, explained: “For many, many years now, we’ve opened our Christmas department on the August bank holiday.

“The stock comes in early and we gradually start putting it out on the shop floor. This is just a small fraction of what we have.

“But our Christmas displays are so spectacular it takes time to get everything set up, so we have to start early.

“It may seem a little odd putting them out now — especially with the hot weather.

“But we have to plan so far in advance.”

“This is how my grandma’s house looks- 16 grandkids & aunts and uncles bring presents for all their nieces and nephews- so it adds up,” one woman wrote.

A second added: “Maybe they have a big family. Maybe they couldn’t always give presents, so they’re making up for it.

“Maybe they’re just big on gifts. Don’t judge!”

Whilst a third person agreed: “They could have a big family!

“I have a really large family so my tree looks similar to this!

“Everyone always gets 7-10 gifts big and small!”
