Tottenham vs Man Utd preview

It’s an intriguing final eight left to battle it out for League Cup glory. No tie more so than the one at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Both Tottenham and Manchester United got much-needed and hugely impressive victories last weekend and must surely be coming into this on a high.

Spurs ran riot on Sunday on the south coast, putting five beyond Southampton in the first half.

That result came at a great time for Ange Postecoglou, who is facing increased scrutiny in the Spurs hot seat.

But he always wins a trophy in his second season in charge, so he won’t be taking this lightly.

Ruben Amorim’s United put together an incredible comeback in the final five minutes to add to Manchester City’s woes.

Amad Diallo’s performance has grabbed most of the headlines, with the remainder of the headlines surrounding the decision to drop Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the squads altogether.

While the manager has also been carrying out investigations into who is leaking the team news. So it’ll be interesting to see who makes the squad and starting XI here.

Tottenham vs Manchester United predictions and tips

Comeback

Throwing away leads looked to have become Spurs’ thing, having chucked away 2-0 leads to lose to both Brighton and Chelsea in the last couple of months – as well as drawing with Fulham having lead earlier this month.

And Manchester United showed their powers of recovery for the second game running, losing 1-0 to win 2-1 against Plzen and City.

They came from behind against Bodo Glimt too making it three times it’s happened in six games.

Cornered

Playing with fast, direct wingers should almost always guarantee corners.

And given this game could really go either way, we’re taking a look at the corners market.

There were 15 corners in Spurs’ last home game and 18 in the one previous to that. So value has been searched.

Football stadium opened by Man Utd legend Sir Alex Ferguson up for sale for £500k 12 years after tenants were dissolved

A FOOTBALL stadium opened by Sir Alex Ferguson is now up for sale at just £500,000 — 12 years after its tenants were dissolved.

The Valley Road ground used to be the home of Manchester-based club Flixton FC.

Alex Ferguson, Manchester United manager, in his office.
The stadium was opened by Sir Alex Ferguson in 1995
News Group Newspapers Ltd

Created in 1960, the club became a popular local fixture in Trafford.

An amateur side, they managed to reach the Northern Premier League in the 1990s.

And they last played in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division before resigning in 2012.

That same year saw them dissolved completely due to poor supporter attendance and revenue.

And it also meant that Flixton’s Valley Ground road became unoccupied.

The stadium was opened in 1995 by Manchester United legend Fergie.

A whopping 2,000 eager fans were able to pack in for a game of non-league football.

But the Valley Ground is now up for sale at auction with a starting price of just £500k.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

Hailed as a “unique investment opportunity”, prospective buyers will not just be getting their hands on the stands and pitch.

The price also includes a spacious club house, a car park and changing rooms — as well as a former training field.

The purchase also includes extras like a club house, training field and car park

The auction house description reads: “Opened in 1995 by Sir Alex Ferguson, the clubhouse includes a large function room with bar to the first floor and a full-length balcony overlooking the pitch.

“It also features a kitchen, toilets and self-contained caretakers apartment. The ground floor benefits a generous bar area, kitchen, meeting rooms, toilets and garage.

“A well-tended grass football pitch measuring 120 yards by 70 yards, making it one of the largest in the country.

“Flixton Football Club is in a well-established residential area, the property is accessible from Valley Road off Woodsend Road and benefits from a secondary access point on Lydney Road.”

Luke Littler takes cheeky dig at David Beckham during BBC SPOTY awards where he finished runner-up to Keely Hodgkinson

LUKE LITTLER made a cheeky dig towards David Beckham during last night’s Sports Personality of the Year awards.

The darts prodigy, 17, was in attendance as he he hoped to win the main gong.

Littler, 17, received a text from David Beckham earlier this year[/caption]

Littler went on to finish as runner-up to runaway winner Keely Hodgkinson.

Like Hodgkinson, Littler is a huge Manchester United fan.

During last year’s World Darts Championship, the teenager revealed that former United superstar Beckham had sent him a good luck text.

Interviewed alongside his parents by Gabby Logan last night, Littler was asked if his text from Becks was one of his biggest “pinch me” moments of 2024.

He hilariously responded: “He’s not followed me though.”

This drew laughter from the crowd, with Logan replying: “I think that’s a plea.”

Answering her original question, Littler then admitted: “I think going to Carrington and meeting all the United squad.”

In January Littler attended the Red Devils’ 2-2 draw with Tottenham Old Trafford, and also grabbed pictures with Sir Alex Ferguson and Bruno Fernandes.

He then headed to Carrington the following week.

After finishing as runner-up in the main award, Littler won the BBC’s Young Sports Personality of the Year last night.

Upon being handed the gong, he said: “It just goes to show how well I’ve done this year.

“But not only for myself changed the sport of darts [with] all the other professionals. But I have played a big part in it.”

Littler will open his World Darts Championship campaign this Saturday with a clash with Ryan Meikle.

He was nearly matched up with Ally Pally favourite Fallon Sherrock, only for Meikle to beat her 3-2.

World Darts Championship star Gerwyn Price blames distraction of CHIP SHOP for ‘rubbish’ form

GERWYN PRICE is in the right PLAICE these days after getting rid of the distraction of his new fish and chip shop.

The Welshman, 39, has had a terrible year on the oche and been battered by opponents lower down the rankings.

Gerwyn Price has blamed the opening of a new fish and chips shop for his ‘rubbish’ form[/caption]

Behind the scenes he has had issues setting up a new chippie in his hometown of Markham in South Wales.

It has been more time-consuming than Price expected — and that is one of the reasons why his form has dipped.

Asked how the takeaway empire is going, Price — who used to own a cafe — said: “That’s probably why I was losing and playing rubbish — my mind was elsewhere.

“I’m glad now it’s up and running rather than me having to worry about it too much.

“The cafe was rubbish in the end and is being leased out as a dog-grooming salon, but Chippy 501 is doing well.

“It wasn’t just about opening it.

“I’ve got cameras in the shop and I was always checking them on my phone.

“Yeah, it can affect the oche. I’m eating fish and chips all the time. I set up a 10 per cent discount for myself.”

Now down to tenth in the world, Price finished second-last in the Premier League.

Watching the Grand Slam of Darts on TV last month — he did not qualify — was the boot up the backside he needed.

The 2021 world champion — who beat Keane Barry 3-0 in round two at Ally Pally on Monday — said: “It has given me a kick up the arse because I need to play better to get into the Grand Slams.

“Now I need to prove it on the big stage — and going deep into the World Championship is what I want.”

People are only just realising they’ve been making Brussels Sprouts all wrong – & there’s a cupboard staple you MUST add

WITH December 25th less than two weeks away, if you’re keen to make the perfect Christmas dinner that will leave your family members drooling, you’ve come to the right place.

It turns out that we’ve been cooking our Brussels Sprouts all wrong – and simply boiling them is a method professional chefs are sure to turn their noses up at.

Love them or loathe them, Brussels Sprouts are a Christmas classic – yet so many of us are still serving them up the same old, somewhat boring way.

But thanks to Great British Bake Off finalist Crystelle Pereira, you can level up your festive side dish – and it’s bound to leave your guests begging for more.

The foodie took to social media to share her simple recipe, leaving many open-mouthed.

She claimed that her dish is “the only Brussels Sprouts recipe you need” and even those who shudder at the mere mention of these divisive leafy greens might be tempted to give it a go this festive season.

According to Crystelle, there’s a popular cupboard staple you must add if you want the most delicious Brussels.

Not only this, but instead of boiling them, you should roast them if you want them to taste the best.

She explained: “Here’s how to make my balsamic and honey roasted Brussels sprouts.”

Crystelle used 500 grams of Brussels Sprouts and advised: “So first you want to cut each Brussels Sprout in half.”

She then coated them in olive oil and added a pinch of salt, pepper and garlic powder, as she continued: “You want to roast the Brussels flat side down, so that the tops get lovely and crispy and the bottoms go lovely and charred as well.”

Whilst the Brussels are in the oven at 170C for 20 minutes, Crystelle then made her glaze.

She combined three tablespoons of balsamic vinegar with two tablespoons of honey, as she advised: “Combine the balsamic and honey in a pan and mix on a medium heat for around seven minutes until bubbling, and thickened.”

Then, she advised: “Pour the glaze over the cooked Brussels, toss to combine and roast for a further 35 minutes. Sprinkle with a good amount of flakey sea salt and enjoy.”

Foodies react

TikTok users were left stunned by Crystelle’s recipe, which was posted on her official @crystellepereira account, and many flocked to the comments to express this.

I love Brussels Sprouts, but those are next level. I will definitely be making these

TikTok user

Not only were people shocked that they had never tried this method before, but others described them as ‘sprouts of dreams’.

One foodie posted: “Oh man that looks so delicious.

Fridge or cupboard? The essential food storage guide

Foods must be stored correctly to keep them fresh and prevent the spread of bacteria.

Nutrition expert Birgit Brendel said bread will last longer when stored in the fridge or freezer.

However, this can compromise the flavour.

Storing in ceramic or pottery containers is an alternative that allows for air to flow easily and slow the growth of mould.

Robert Morris, managing director of food safety consultants, Complete Food Safety, revealed the best place to store fresh fruit and vegetables.

He said salad foods should be stored in the fridge drawer, but away from anything grown in the soil such as carrots, parsnips and beetroot.

Tomatoes are an exception to the rule as fridges can alter the natural ripening process and diminish their taste.

He also advised against putting avocados and bananas in the fridge as this will cause them to blacken quicker.

“I love Brussels Sprouts, but those are next level. I will definitely be making these.”

A second chimed in: “Oooh I made these today and they’re the sprouts of my dreams!!!”

Whilst someone else beamed: “Making these right now!”

Not only this, but another wrote: “I’ll take the lot.”

Three of the best comebacks if a family member gaslights you over the Christmas period, according to a lawyer

Couple arguing at Christmas dinner; man in car offers advice on handling gaslighting.

CHRISTMAS may be the season of goodwill – but it’s also the season of many a family fall-out.

Being forced into spending time with relatives you don’t necessarily get along with can lead to arguments and feuds that take all the fun out of the festivities.

A lawyer has shared three tips for dealing with a gaslighter[/caption]

His TikTok post has been flooded with comments from people who have tried – or want to try – his advice[/caption]

His approach is all about repeating simple phrases that will keep you in control

And one manipulative behaviour in particular that can rear its ugly head at Christmas, is gaslighting.

Whether it’s to do with heightened stress or long-established tensions and conflict narratives between family members, it’s a psychological tactic that sadly lots of people resort to.

And being on the receiving end can make you feel like you’re going completely crazy.

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines gaslighting as a “psychological manipulation of a person usually over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own thoughts, perception of reality or memories.”

It goes on to say that being gaslit “typically leads to confusion, loss of confidence and self-esteem, uncertainty of one’s emotional or mental stability, and a dependency on the perpetrator.”

If you’re keen to avoid the same patterns this Christmas when it comes to dealing with a disruptive family member, then one lawyer has shared his advice for what to say when someone gaslights you.

Posting on TikTok, Jefferson Fisher explained his number one rule is to say, “as little as possible”.

This is because a gaslighter will set out to distract you with multiple issues, that will have you constantly chasing after them in the conversation.

“So the less you say, the less you chase,” he reasoned.

To do that, his second piece of advice is to repeat a phrase that acknowledges what the gaslighter is saying.

“So when that gaslighter says ‘you’re being crazy right now’ – instead of chasing it and saying ‘crazy? How am I crazy?’ you’re going to repeat the phrase of acknowledgement, ‘I understand you disagree with me,'” he explained.

Jefferson predicts this will lead the person to point at something else, but by repeating the phrase again to them, you’ll stay in control.

“When you repeat, it keeps you from chasing,” he reiterated.

Finally – and perhaps the reaction that so many of us have when presented with an untruth – he advised that you should never lose your cool and shout in desperation.

This is because yelling out something like, “That’s not true!” only falls into their trap and is exactly the sort of heightened response they want from you.

Instead, he says you should just respond with a phrase that demonstrates you have a different perspective.

“Just repeat the phrase ‘I see things differently’ as many times as you need and you’ll stay in control,” he concluded.

His post was quickly flooded with over a thousand comments from TikTok users, who have either tried his advice or intend to give it a go.

“I need to memorize these!!!!” one wrote.

Another person joked that they’d need to save the advice as a cheat sheet on their phone screensaver for dealing with the narcissist in their life.

While someone else who tried the advice themselves left a thank you for Jefferson, explaining that they’d used it that evening.

“It actually worked like a charm. I feel empowered!” they said.

Famous family feuds

Families can be minefields that lead to spectacular blow-ups.

Jimmy Carr‘s dad threatened to sue him, saying he is “sick and tired” of being painted in a bad light by the comic.

Richard Williams‘ daughter Sabrina slammed the Oscar-winning movie King Richard about the tennis coach, saying it ignored his first family and five children from his marriage to her mum Betty, who he abandoned.

Ryan Giggs and his brother Rhodri fell out over the footballer’s secret affair with his wife. Their dad was not impressed either.

Gary Lineker said his relationship with brother Wayne is “not so good” and the pair “don’t speak often” after Wayne boycotted Gary’s wedding.

Zayn Malik was accused of attacking his girlfriend Gigi Hadid’s mother Yolanda. She said the One Direction star “grabbed and shoved her” and said he used “lewd, lascivious, threatening or obscene words” when she came to visit her grandchild.

Olly Murs has been estranged from his twin brother Ben since he skipped his sibling’s wedding to perform on The X Factor.

Nadia Sawalha has never seen eye to eye with her sister, Absolutely Fabulous star Julia. Nadia confessed, “I’ve never liked one of Julia’s boyfriends yet.

King Charles doesn’t answer Prince Harry’s calls anymore as their rift continues to grow since he quit the UK with Meghan Markle.

Britney Spears slammed her sister Jamie Lynn who became a partial trustee of Britney’s estate.

News anchor Ana Orsini’s co-worker reveals one of final chats she had with TV star before her sudden death at 28

A CO-WORKER of the late TV anchor Ana Orsini has opened up on one of the last conversations she had with the journalist.

Orsini died suddenly at the age of 28 following a brain aneurysm.

Facebook
Tributes have poured in to the meteorologist[/caption]

Tributes have flooded into the reporter, who had been working for the CBS affiliate KOLD-TV since 2023.

Meteorologist Allie Potter opened up on one of the final conversations she had with Orsini.

“We were just talking about eyelashes, and she gave me Advil because my back was hurting,” she posted on Facebook.

“Then the next day, she was gone.”

Potter described Orsini as one of the sassiest and sweetest girls that she knew.

“Literally no words and only tears,” she started her post.

“Still at a loss for words.”

Potter said she was wearing pink in a nod to her late co-worker.

“It’s something Ana would want,” she said.

“RIP Ana, we love you!”

Orsini’s death was announced on KOLD during a December 16 broadcast.

Carsyn Currier held back tears as she announced her colleague’s death.

“Ana has been here at 13 News since June of 2023, and we are devastated by this loss,”  she said.

Currier described Orsini as one of her best friends.

KOLD-TV statement

CBS affiliate KOLD-TV shared the following statement about the death of their anchor, Ana Orsini:

“The 13 News Family is saddened to report the passing of our beloved friend and co-anchor Ana Orsini,” the news team shared.

“Ana had been at 13 News since June 2023 and we are devastated by her unexpected passing. She died last week of a brain aneurysm.”

The channel shared a compilation video of some of Orsini’s moments on air.

“Ana’s friends and coworkers remember her as someone with bottomless empathy who always stood up for ‘the little guy,'” the team said.

“She was a smiling face most especially for all her newest and youngest coworkers, and she is known in all the newsrooms where she worked for taking them under her wing and being a strong mentor for both work and life.

“Rescue animals were her passion, and if she wasn’t celebrating Fur Baby Friday, she’d be trying to find a new home for a cutie in need.

“If Ana found out you loved true crime, like she did, she would share the calendar she kept to track the releases of all the new episodes of the best podcasts.

“Her favorite was True Crime Obsessed, and if you spent longer than 5 minutes with Ana without hearing her favorite quote from it, ‘Let the women do the work,’ then something was seriously wrong!

“She was a peanut-butter-M&M-loving, platform-Ugg-wearing, pink-or-purple-Stanley-toting ray of sunshine, even at 4:00 in the morning.”

“Ana was not only beautiful, talented, and hilarious, but she was unlike anyone I’ve ever met,” she said.

“To know Ana was to LOVE her. She made everyone around her feel so special, heard and understood.”

Currier reminisced on how waking up in the middle of the night for work was made easier, knowing she would work alongside Orsini.

“Whether she was dancing around the set or making us all laugh, everyday with Ana was an adventure,” she said.

“Time may pass, but my memories of Ana will never fade.”

Co-anchor Tyler Butler paid tribute to Orsini, describing her as a funny and crazy person.

Just days before her death, Orsini revealed that she had put up her Christmas decorations.

And she had settled down to watch the A&M vs. Texas football game.

“It truly is the most wonderful time of the year,” she said.
