6 days agoUSA UpdateComments Off on Hit show cancelled after two seasons despite Hollywood star lead and rave reviews from critics
A HIT thriller starring Jeff Bridges has been cancelled after just two series.
The Old Man, which also featured John Lithgow, had received rave reviews when series one aired back in 2022, and an impressive 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Series one of The Old Man had been a ratings hit[/caption]
The series stars Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow and is based on a novel by Thomas Perry[/caption]
Series two faced long delays in production and hasn’t been well recieved[/caption]
It’s return just couldn’t live up to those expectations though and it’s thought that long delays between productions may be partly to blame for the downturn.
The show is based on the 2017 novel by the prolific thriller writer Thomas Perry, and follows a former army intelligence officer, Michael Kohler as he lives off grid after leaving the force in mysterious circumstances.
The series was beset by delays and production problems since it started filming in 2019.
The global pandemic shut down the set after just three episodes were in the can and star Jeff contracted a very serious case of COVID-19 himself.
Jeff later shared that beating cancer was a “piece of cake” compared to contracting COVID, which he caught whilst receiving chemotherapy.
Thankfully it was announced that the cancer was in remission in September 2021 and the True Grit star was back to work on The Old Man, telling Deadline: “It was great to be back with the gang.”
The FX network premiered series one in June 2022 with the public and critics agreeing that it was a huge success; a series two renewal wasn’t far behind.
Delays once again hit the project though, this time the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood halted production.
The strikes were called in the winter of 2023 by acting and writer’s unions about a host of labour issues including the use of AI in productions.
This all meant that series two didn’t hit screens until September of this year and the fan reaction made it clear the show hadn’t lived up to expectations.
Upon the announcement of the spy thriller being cancelled fans took to socials to share their thoughts.
One said: “Season 2 devolved into a series of epically long personal conversations about completely irrelevant c**p. Did anybody have any idea what the story was?”

CHINA has unveiled bold plans to built the world’s largest artificial island airport – costing an eye-watering £4 billion.
Designed to handle a staggering 80 million passengers annually, this ambitious development will surpass the likes of Hong Kong International Airport and Japan’s Kansai Airport in scale.
A £4billion project will see China having the world’s largest artificial island airport[/caption]
The country aims to reshape the skyline and bolster regional connectivity in northern China[/caption]
Set to be completed by 2035, the Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport will be able to handle 80 million passengers every year[/caption]
Set to reshape the skyline and bolster regional connectivity, the project will transform an area spanning 20 square kilometres into a futuristic air hub, marking a new era in the country’s infrastructure development.
The Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport – currently under construction – is set to be completed by 2035.
Once operational, the airport is expected to host one million tonnes of cargo, cementing its place as a key regional gateway for international and domestic travel.
Dalian, located in northeastern China, has long been a thriving coastal city with a population exceeding 6 million.
Its strategic position has fostered economic ties with neighbouring Japan and South Korea, and the city is a hub for oil refining, shipping, logistics, and tourism.
The new airport aims to bolster these industries further by improving connectivity and positioning Dalian as a regional air transport hub.
The Jinzhouwan Airport will feature four runways and a 900,000-square-metre (9.69 million sq ft) terminal.
Its initial passenger capacity of 43 million annually is expected to double in the coming years.
The new airport addresses limitations at the existing Dalian Zhoushuizi Airport, which was built during the Japanese occupation and is now constrained by its location in a valley surrounded by mountains.
The difficult terrain has made navigation challenging for pilots, particularly in poor weather conditions, and the airport has reached its capacity limit after multiple expansions.
Last year, it served 658,000 international passengers.
The artificial island location of Jinzhouwan Airport offers a solution to these challenges, providing more space for expansion and enhancing safety measures, the South China Morning Post reports.
Construction of the massive artificial island is already underway.
In August, the deep foundation treatment for a 77,000-square-metre reclaimed area was completed, a critical step in preparing the ground for building on soft or unstable soil.
By creating jobs, boosting tourism, and enhancing trade routes, the airport is expected to provide a significant boost to Dalian’s economy and solidify its position as a transportation and economic hub in northeast Asia.
The incredible mega-project will help cut a 21-hour journey by half via the 16-mile crossing.
Dubbed The Rogfast, this tunnel will stretch across Norway and help connect two important cities.
The incredible undersea subway will run between the municipalities of Randaberg and Bokn in Rogaland county.
A large body of water separates these two spots and requires locals to use ferries to get across.
This route would help to connect the southern city Stavanger to the more northern city of Bergen, according to World Highways.
China's plan to build 22 new airports
CHINA’S ambitions in aviation go far beyond the groundbreaking Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport.
As of mid-2024, the country is actively constructing 22 new airports, representing a total investment of $19.6 billion, according to CAPA-Centre for Aviation, a leading market intelligence firm in the aviation industry.
These projects are part of China’s broader push to expand its aviation infrastructure, driven by rising passenger demand and the government’s vision to create an interconnected domestic and international air network.
The scale of this expansion marks China’s strategic focus on improving regional connectivity and supporting economic growth in less-developed areas.
New airports are being built in key locations to reduce congestion at existing hubs and provide greater access to air travel in underserved regions.
These facilities will not only enhance passenger capacity but also strengthen cargo logistics, fuelling trade and economic development.
By 2035, China is expected to handle over 2 billion annual air passengers, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
To meet this demand, the government has committed to increasing the total number of civil airports from 254 in 2022 to over 450 by 2035.
It will also have four runways and a 900,000-square-metre terminal[/caption]
6 days agoUSA UpdateComments Off on ‘Brits and Americans’ among the 100,000 dead in Assad’s mass graves after timelapse shows grim site swell under regime
BRITISH and American victims are reportedly among the 100,000 bodies found in a mass grave in Syria following the fall of tyrant Bashar al-Assad.
Some half a million people are estimated to have been killed in the country since civil war broke out in 2011 – although the real figure could be higher.
Mouaz Moustafa, head of a US-based Syrian advocacy group, told Reuters that 100,000 is an “extremely” conservative estimate of victims found in a mass grave north of Damascus.
The site in Al-Qutayfa, 50 kilometres northeast of the capital, exposed chilling evidence of the systematic disappearance of Assad’s enemies.
Moustafa said: “One hundred thousand is the most conservative estimate.
“It’s a very, very extremely, almost unfairly conservative estimate.”
He is certain there are more than just five sites with bodies including US and American citizens, as well as other foreigners alongside Syrian victims.
His claims have not been verified.
After visiting two mass grave sites in Qutayfah and Najha near Damascus, former US war crimes ambassador Stephen Rapp said: “We certainly have more than 100,000 people that were disappeared into and tortured to death in this machine.
“I don’t have much doubt about those kinds of numbers given what we’ve seen in these mass graves.
“When you talk about this kind of organised killing by the state and its organs, we really haven’t seen anything quite like this since the Nazis.”
Before the outbreak of war in 2011, Al-Qutayfah appeared to be nothing more than open land.
But timelapse satellite imagery and witness testimonies suggest the site became a graveyard of atrocities as early as 2012.
By 2013, long trenches — up to 50 meters in length — were dug under strict military supervision, hidden from the public eye.
And over the next several years, refrigerated trucks carrying bodies began arriving under the cover of darkness, dumping human remains into these pits.
Eyewitnesses described horrifying scenes.
Mohammad Abou al-Bahaa, a teacher performing military service in Al-Qutayfah, recalled the “worst smell you could ever smell” emanating from the area.
Soldiers told him it was from “carcasses,” though it quickly became clear these were human bodies, victims of detention centre torture, disease, and execution.
“I would see refrigerated trucks filled with bodies, some in plastic bags and others uncovered,” he toldThe Times.
One local told Channel 4 News of when he saw a female gymnast among the dead, still wearing her sports clothes, moments before she was buried.
Another, meanwhile, recounted how the fire brigade was once called to thaw over 100 bodies that had frozen together, enabling soldiers to separate and bury them.
“Blood would be pouring out the bottom of the trucks,” said a gravedigger near the site.
For years, civilians were forbidden from approaching the area, their questions silenced by threats.
The timelapse shows how the grave expanded dramatically between 2013 and 2015.
Historic satellite images reveal the creation of a 10-acre burial site, which was later surrounded by high walls and bulldozed to erase evidence.
In recent years, the area has been repurposed as a Hezbollah base, with army vehicles and communication equipment scattered across the grounds.
And beneath it, an unthinkable number of bodies remain abandoned and unidentified.
Moustafa, executive director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force, told Channel 4 News: “Where are the forensic teams? Where are the experts to exhume and identify the remains? My friends and even family members could be buried here.”
Al-Qutayfah is not the only location to bear witness to the regime’s mass killing.
The nearby Adra graveyard, located in a Damascus suburb, tells a similarly grim story.
The mass burial ground was constructed following the United States’ infamous “red line” warnings in 2014.
In response to Bashar al-Assad’s chemical weapon attacks on civilians, President Barack Obama declared that further use of such weapons would trigger military intervention.
Yet, weeks after Assad’s supposed renunciation of chemical weapons, satellite imagery reveals the construction of Adra’s purpose-built mass grave began in July 2014.
Rows of meticulously planned trenches and roads designed for body-filled lorries soon appeared, suggesting a chilling level of organisation.
The burial site, located near a government office, expanded systematically over the years, with grave lines appearing in successive satellite images until as recently as 2021.
The timing of the site’s construction coincided with Assad’s contested election victory, which saw his third presidential term inaugurated on July 16, 2014.
At the time, the international community widely condemned the election as illegitimate.
William Hague, then British Foreign Secretary, remarked: “Assad lacked legitimacy before this election, and he lacks it afterwards. This election bore no relation to genuine democracy.”
Despite the regime’s claims of normalcy, Adra’s graveyard became yet another tool of mass terror.
Witnesses interviewed by ITV say that the bodies buried at the site belonged to civilian victims of the Assad regime.
Blood-streaked trucks delivered corpses under the watchful eyes of soldiers, mirroring the practices described at Al-Qutayfa.
The Assad regime’s systematic disposal of bodies reflects the brutal scale of Syria’s conflict.
Of the 136,000 forcibly disappeared Syrians, at least 105,000 remain unaccounted for.
The sites at Al-Qutayfa and Adra represent just a fraction of the fallen regime’s hidden atrocities.

JONBENET Ramsey’s father was sent a bombshell letter from a woman claiming her ex-husband killed the six-year-old.
The decades-long cold case ofJonBenethas reentered the spotlight following the release of a newNetflixdocuseries, reigniting hope that it could be solved.
The unsolved murder of JonBenét Ramsey is back in the spotlight following the release of a new Netflix docuseries[/caption]
John and Patsy Ramsey after four months of silence in Boulder, Colorado in May 1997[/caption]
Now JonBenet’s father said he received a letter from a woman claiming her ex-husband killed her.
John Ramsey said he immediately followed up on the tip – but has not received a response yet.
He told the Daily Mail: “Based on all this publicity, recently I got a letter from a lady saying, ‘My ex-husband’s the killer, and I’ve kept this inside for as long as I can – please, please call me.’
“We reached out to her, but she didn’t answer the phone, so I don’t know.
“We’ve shared at this point with a private investigator.”
JonBenet was found brutally beaten and sexually assaulted on Christmas Eve in the basement of her family home in Boulder, Colorado in 1996.
The pageant queen mother, Patsy, had called 911 that morning to report finding a ransom note and that her daughter was missing.
Cops responded quickly but her body wasn’t found until hours later during a search led by JonBenet’s father John.
Suspicions turned almost instantly onto the family, which soon led to them having a bad relationship with Boulder Police Department.
The coroner who performed JonBenét’s autopsy determined the little girl died from suffocation in conjunction with forcible trauma to her skull.
JonBenet was only six when she died[/caption]

JonBenet had an 8.5-inch skull fracture and several markings on her neck and hands.
The Netflix docuseries, that was released last month, looked to address how misinformation about the case was spread vastly by law enforcement and the media.
For decades, John has demanded answers from the Boulder Police Department and pressed them for the use of advanced DNA techniques and genealogical databases.
JonBenet’s mom and John’s wife, Patsy, who died in 2006 aged 49, was largely convicted in the court of public opinion, alongside son Burke, who was nine years old and at home when the killing occurred.
The Boulder DA officially cleared and apologised to Patsy and Burke in 2008.
Now, after decades of having no answer, John said that any hope of new leads are welcome.
He told the Daily Mail that solving the case is “not going to change my life at this point – I just turned 81 – but it’ll change my children’s lives, my grandchildren’s lives.
“They need to have this cloud removed, clarified, and an answer.

“That’s why we’re pushing so hard to get an answer.”
Despite there perhaps being a new suspect from the ex-wife’s letter sent to John, the dad said he remains sceptical as he has been let down in the past with finding the killer.
In the docuseries, one name stuck out as the potential killer.
John Mark Karr, who fled the US after being charged with child pornography, knew an eerie number of details about JonBenet, her death, and claimed to have committed the murder.
Karr has never been charged with the young pageant queen’s death because his DNA did not match any DNA found at the Ramsey home.
In the past, The U.S. Sun extensively reported how convicted pedophile Gary Oliva also confessed multiple times to killing JonBenet in letters to a high school friend.
Oliva was released from prison in January after serving less than eight years of a 10-year sentence for child pornography charges.
He was arrested in June 2016 after he was caught uploading images depicting the sexual abuse of children to his personal Gmail account.
When police searched his phone, they found over 695 images depicting child pornography.
He also possessed 335 photos relating to JonBenet, including her autopsy and images of shrines to her.
John Mark Karr was held in connection with the 1996 murder of six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey but never charged[/caption]
Gary Oliva confessed to killing JonBenet multiple times but has never been charged with her death[/caption]
Since his arrest, Oliva confessed to killing JonBenet multiple times but has never been charged with her death.
Other false confessions have also occurred since JonBenet was tragically killed, including early on in the case.
One man claimed he had been hired to kill the six-year-old by calling the Ramsey family’s pastor to confess, and later had discussions with John too.
John explained that the man, who gave the name ‘David Cooper’, first called the pastor and “said he was JonBenet’s killer and wanted to turn himself in but wanted to talk to me first”.
He continued: “‘I called him and talked to him for a while … and I was asking him questions.
“I was looking for information that maybe he had that nobody else would have [from] reading the newspapers or watching television.”
He said the mysterious man appeared to mention items from the house that weren’t “in the news that I know of,” so he thought the called could be credible.
John told the cops, who didn’t investigate or reach out to the man, but instead, according to the dad, “were not interested in following up at all: ‘Well, he wants to turn himself in? We’ll be here. Great.'”
Timeline of the JonBenet Ramsey case
25 December 1996: The Ramsey family attends a Christmas party at the White family’s home. They leave around 8:30 pm. Around 9:15 pm, the Ramseys return home, and John Ramsey carries JonBenét to bed.
26 December 1996:
5:52 am: Patsy Ramsey calls 911 to report JonBenét missing and a ransom note found on the staircase.
Around 6:00 am: Family friends arrive at the Ramsey home. Crime scene investigators and victim advocates also arrive between 6:00 am and 8:00 am.
1:05 pm: John Ramsey and Fleet White find JonBenét’s body in the basement.
February 1997: Helgoth, an initial suspect, dies by suicide. Investigator Ollie Gray, hired by the Ramseys, later suggests Helgoth’s family might possess a taped confession, but no such confession has ever been verified. Helgoth’s DNA is later found not to match crime scene evidence.
2006:
August 16: John Mark Karr confesses to JonBenét’s murder. He claims he drugged, sexually assaulted, and accidentally killed her.
August 17: Karr is arrested in Bangkok, Thailand.
Later in 2006: Karr’s confession is discredited. His DNA does not match the crime scene evidence, and his family confirms he was with them during the time of the murder. Charges against him are dropped.
2016: Gary Oliva, a registered sex offender, is investigated. He is later arrested, but not charged in connection with the Ramsey case.
When he had another phone call with the self-confessed killer, however, “he said: ‘Well, I want to bring my family with me, and it’s going to cost me $3,000 for airline tickets, and I don’t have any money. Can you send me the money?'”
John was fully prepared to send the man the cash, but it was the family’s attorneys who talked him out of it.
After an investigator for John looked into the man, they discovered he was a truck driver out of Louisiana who was allegedly trying to scam the family – so they didn’t pursue him any further.
With the advancements in DNA testing and the cold case gaining coverage from the docuseries, John said he remained hopeful his daughters tragic death could be solved.
He said: “Bureaucrats, politicians, are impacted by public pressure bigtime, and we sense that that’s happening.”
Boulder Police Department released its annual update one month early into the investigation surrounding JonBenet’s death “due to increased attention” on the case.
BPD Chief Steve Redfearn said in a statement posted on X in November: “The killing of JonBenet was an unspeakable crime and this tragedy has never left our hearts.
“We are committed to following up on every lead and we are continuing to work with DNA experts and our law enforcement partners around the country until this tragic case is solved.
“‘The assertion that there is viable evidence and leads we are not pursuing – to include DNA testing – is completely false.”

TENNESSEE Titans have reportedly made a decision about Will Levis’ possible benching for Week 16’s clash against the Indianapolis Colts.
The quarterback had a nightmare on Sunday, when he was removed in the third quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals, with his ex-girlfriend Gia Duddy watching from the stands.
Will Levis is set to be benched for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts[/caption]
TheTitansquarterback, 25, threw three interceptions and lost a fumble before being taken out of the 37-27 defeat to theBengals.
One of his interceptions to Geno Stone was returned for a touchdown – a common sight for Titans fans.
After one of the worst days of his pro career, it was then revealed that Duddy was watching the game from a corporate box.
And now things have gone from bad to worse for Levis as he looks set to be benched ahead of Sunday’s trip to Indiana.
The Titans are last in the AFC South on a 3-11 record after Sunday’s loss and have won just once in their last six games.
Levis was benched midway through the game in favor of Mason Rudolph, who threw 26 passes and two touchdowns in relief.
Rudolph is now in line to start Sunday.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said: “The Tennessee Titans are planning to make a switch at quarterback this week.
“Rudolph is the logical candidate to step in for starter Will Levis, who likely heads to the bench barring surprise.“
Levis leads the NFL in pick-sixes with four. No other quarterback in Titans/Oilers history has thrown four pick-sixes in a season.
Mason Rudolph looks set to be given the nod to start against the Colts[/caption]
He has completed 63.7 per cent of his passes for 1,916 yards, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season.
Turnovers have defined his 2024 campaign, as Levis racked up 17 total giveaways – second only to Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins.
For reference, there are 15 NFL teams that have yet to commit 17 turnovers.
Kentucky Wildcats star Levis was selected early in the second round via a trade with the Arizona Cardinals.
She now has more than 285,000 followers on Instagram and 600k on TikTok and has secured multiple paid partnerships.
Duddy, who was wearing a Titans jacket, has stayed in Nashville despite splitting from Levis.
One video from the game showed her drinking outside the stadium with the caption: “When you’re still drunk from the night before but the show must go on.”
Another image showed her and a group of friends sat together watching the game.
Duddy, who met Levis at Kentucky, was seemingly a guest of Raising Cane’s as she also shared images of her holding a branded cup.

PARKING codes are set to change across a major US city and could see a rise in drivers receiving fines.
The police department in Washington, Iowa, are to get more serious on residents breaking local parking laws – with officers to seek out offenders instead of issuing parking tickets in response to complaints.
Parking codes are set to change across a major US city[/caption]
It could see a rise in drivers receiving fines – especially during snow emergencies[/caption]
Southeast Iowa Union reports that police on patrol routes across the city will spend the next several weeks issuing written warnings to cars that are caught violating commonly broken parking laws.
City Police Chief Jim Lester said: “We just felt that, you know, maybe it’s time we spend a little more time addressing these issues while we’re on patrol.
“Rather than being a little more complaint-based, being a little more proactive in our approach.”
Worse still for drivers, officers will likely ramp up their efforts by the start of 2025.
The current plan is to issue slap-on-the-wrist style written warnings to rule-breaking vehicles.
But by the start of 2025, efforts will begin to hand out fines, with the standard citywide fine at $25 that can rise to $50 during snow emergencies.
Lester added: “It’s a matter of education, and I’m hopeful that we’ll see a change in the behavior, that’s what we’re looking for.
“Early to mid-January, we’ll probably be looking at [tickets].
“It’s a matter of educating people why the changes were in place, and this is why we’re now enforcing that.
“I think with time and everybody working together, it will alleviate some of that.”
The change comes as parking complaints around town have become more frequent, according to Lester.
A recent press release from the police department also said city officials had growing safety concerns around illegal parking, along with a handful of changes to Washington’s street parking laws in recent months.
Earlier this year, Washington City Council members approved several new no-parking zones, and also made adjustments to the list of accessible parking spots around town.
More recently, advocates have called for stricter enforcement of rules banning trailers parked in front lawns, and pushing equipment into the street that violates other sections of the code.
In a press release, Lester wrote: “Officers field several calls each week about vehicles parked in no-parking zones or vehicles being stored on city streets for periods longer than 24 hours.
“With recent Ordinance changes and the upcoming winter snow plowing season, it was decided to spend some time this fall concentrating on residential neighborhoods focusing on the different parking violations.”
A red Toyota Sienna parked up on Grove Street, San Francisco, was spotted with a missing bumper and scratched paint work – and 90 tickets parking tickets to its name
A Reddit user, who posted a picture of the car to the site upon checking its number plate on the city’s parking website, was angered to discover it owed $22,300 in unpaid fines from 90 tickets.
They posted the image along with the caption: “The owner of this car parks absolutely wherever they want — sidewalks, crosswalks, loading zones, RPP zones — with zero consequences, over and over again.”
The post then went viral, with commenters sharing their own frustrations on parking enforcement in the area.
Currently, drivers can expect to receive written warnings – but this will change in 2025[/caption]

Thick plumes of black smoke emerged as the aircraft burst into a fireball[/caption]
The Kamaka Cessna 208 Caravan was on a training flight before tragedy struck.
Footage taken from a highway showed the plane careering before taking a dip.
It then plunged toward the ground, where plumes of thick black smoke were seen in the distance.
Then, there was a fireball, and the plumes became even thicker.
Witnesses told how they heard a boom as the plane smashed into the abandoned building.
“I was working, and all of a sudden had a loud, one big boom, and I looked out, and there was just some freaking clouds of smoke, and my coworkers told me a plane crashed right next to our building,” one local told the CBS affiliate KGMB-TV.
Another local, Nancy Timco, said she thought the plane was unusually low before the crash happened.
Two people were killed, and one of the victims was named Hiram DeFries – a private school graduate who was in pilot training, according to local media.
DeFries, 22, graduated from the private college prep school Punahou in 2020 and was working toward getting his pilot’s license, as reported by the ABC affiliate KITV-TV.
Officials have not formally identified the victims on board the plane.
KGMB captured the pilot’s final conversations with the air traffic control officers.
“Kamaka Flight 689, you’re turning right, correct,” the tower said.
The pilot then reported back the plane was “out of control.”
“Okay, Kamaka 689, if you can land, if you can level it off, that’s fine,” the ATC officer said.
Ed Sniffen, the Hawaii Department of Transportation director, described the tragedy as “devastating.”

MORE than a dozen Egyptian mummies embellished with gold tongues and fingernails have been uncovered by archaeologists.
Surrounded by ancient amulets, the colourful 2,000-year-old tombs were found in the Behnese area, an important archaeological site in Middle Egypt.
The mummies are “unique” for the area, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities[/caption]

Scarabs for the gods Isis, Horus and Thoth and the symbol of Djed were also found[/caption]
Archaeologists find gold human tongues and nails inside Egyptian tomb[/caption]
Scarabs for the gods Isis, Horus and Thoth and the symbol of Djed were also found, alongside ritual scenes of deities that had never been found in the region before.
The mummies are “unique” for the area, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, noted that it was first time human remains have been found in Behnesa.
The 13 golden tongues and fingernails date back to the Ptolemaic era – the longest and last dynasty of ancient Egypt.
This age spanned from the year 332 to 30 BC.
Ancient Egyptians believed gold was a divine, indestructible metal, and was reserved for the most sacred religious ceremonies.
Experts believe these ornate tongues were intended to allow the dead to speak with the god of the underworld, Osiris.
Gold nails, however, are rarely found in Egyptian archaeological digs.
These adornments are thought to not only be associated with the heavenly powers of gold, but to also showcase the wealth and power of the deceased.
The joint Egyptian-Spanish excavation was led by archaeologists at the University of Barcelona and the Institute of Ancient Near East.
Pons Mellado, co-director of the University of Barcelona’s archaeological study, described the chambers are meticulously arranged, suggesting communal burial practices.
Another burial shaft led to similar chambers, one of which belonged to an individual named Wen Nefer.
This tomb was decorated with intricate and colourful wall paintings depicting Wen Nefer and his family presenting offerings to deities such as Anubis, Osiris, Atum, Horus and Thoth.
A ceiling painting shows the goddess Nut on a sacred boat and surrounded by stars carried deities such as Khepri and Ra.
The discovery “represents a major addition to the history of the area and sheds light on the religious practices prevalent in the Ptolemaic era,” the ministry wrote.

Ancient Egyptian Gods
Ancient Egyptians believed in many gods, each with their own unique power and physical form.
Of all the gods depicted in the Behnese tomb, here is what they represented to ancient humans at the time:
Isis: A magical healer who was a key deity for the dead, and cured the sick. She was also a role model for women at the time.
Horus: A god in the form of a falcon, whose right eye was the sun or morning star representing power, and whose left eye was the moon or evening star, representing healing.
Thoth: God of writing, wisdom and magic.
Anubis: A jackal-headed deity representing the god of death, who would guide souls to the afterlife.
Osiris: God of the underworld.
Djed: An ancient Egyptian symbol meaning stability, which originated from the myth of Osiris.
Atum: The creator god, and a central figure in the creation of the universe. He is associated with the entire universe, the evening sub and scarab beetles.
Nut: God of air and sky.
Khepri: A scarab-faced deity known as the sun god.
Ra: God of the sun and the creator of all other gods and humans.
