BENJAMIN MENDY’S Manchester City bonuses have been revealed with their former player earning millions on top of his salary.
Mendy launched a legal claim against the champions over £11million in unpaid wages yesterday.
The Frenchman was earning £500,000 a month at City following a £52million move from Monaco in 2017.
But the club stopped paying his salary in August 2021 after Mendy was charged with rape and sexual assault.
The World Cup winner was eventually found not guilty on all counts following two trials in 2023.
And Mendy has now brought forward a claim to an employment tribunal for “unauthorised deductions” from his wages.
But further details of his contract have now emerged in submitted paperwork.
As well as his £500,000 a month salary, Mendy also received a large number of bonuses.
Every time Manchester City qualified for the Champions League secured the defender £1million.
And Mendy was also due £900k if he played in over 60 per cent of City’s game.
Meanwhile, his image rights company received an annual payment of £1.2m from the champs.
And on top of that, City were also paying a month pension contribution of £434 which stopped following Mendy’s charges.
A letter was sent to him by the club at the time, which read: “The club has, after careful and anxious consideration, suspended the payment of salary to you.
“You will not receive the payment that would otherwise have fallen due at the end of September 2021.
“Nor will you receive any further payment until you are ready and able to perform your obligations under the contract of employment.
“You are not presently ready and able to perform duties, of course, because you have been remanded in custody and, separately, because The FA has suspended you from engaging in any football-related activity.
“Our understanding is that District Judge Garva remanded you in custody because of your conduct whilst already on bail.
“Remand, was, therefore, an avoidable impediment to your being able to perform your duties. We understand that a subsequent request to be released on bail was refused.
“In those circumstances, the club is no longer obliged to continue to pay you.”
Mendy claims under the terms of his contract, the club only had the right to stop his wages for a maximum of six weeks.
City deny breaching employment law and argue Mendy violated his own contract by bringing the club into disrepute and indulging in behaviour which prevented him from playing or training.
The club initially continued paying Mendy following his first arrest in November 2020.
A BRIT holidaymaker who booked a budget break in Valencia was left in fits of giggles, when she discovered her hotel room resembled a 13-year-old boy’s bedroom.
Martha Mills paid £115 for two nights as part of a special deal for the ‘interior facing single room,’ at Casual Vintage hotel in the Spanish city.
In a video tour she filmed of her digs, which can be played above, she shows off the bathroom and the decoration of the bedroom.
The room is the size of an average British boxroom, with two toy Ferrari cars stuck on the wall alongside a chequered flag.
Inside the bathroom was a half-sized bath that she was unable to squeeze her legs into, along with a shower curtain that said: ‘God Save The Queen.’
On the morning after her first night’s stay, she pulled back the window curtain to reveal the view of a wall.
Martha told Sun Online Travel: “The website did say the room was small and “interior” so the general size of the sleeping area was no huge surprise, but the decor and the hilarious mini-bath were definitely not what I anticipated.
“And they didn’t specify that “interior” would be a window a few feet from a brick wall.
“In general, the aspirational images that were presented to me on the website of the hotel were not what I ended up with.
“The rest of the hotel was also very small and quite tired looking in comparison to the photo gallery. The front desk staff and cleaners were all friendly and the location was great for seeing the sites on foot.”
When asked if felt like she had paid over the odds for the small room, Martha conceded that the price point was unsatisfying because she got neither comfort or a bargain.
She said: “I don’t feel I was robbed, but I do think I could have paid a few pounds more for a far superior hotel room elsewhere – or paid a couple pounds less and used a youth hostel where I would have been fully prepared for the lower-budget product.
“When I walked in, I had to laugh, as the first thing I saw was the droopy chequered flag on the wall, the naff woodchip wall paper and the toy cars stuck over the bed – it was NOTHING like the photos on the website.
“It felt like I was visiting an aunt for Christmas and had been given her young son’s bedroom to sleep in.”
“However , the wifi and air con worked, which made it bearable, and I had great fun updating my friends on all the hilarious things I found, like the bath for ants.”
Sun Online Travel have contacted the Casual Vintage hotel for a comment.
This isn’t the first time a holidaymaker has booked into a hotel to be faced with a different aspect to what appeared in the brochures.
One tourist booked into a Vietnam hotel to discover her infinity pool was actually more like a hot tub.
In another instance, a social media influencer claimed to have paid for sea views, only to check in and realise the window was lined with a poster.
PUNTERS blasted an ‘absolute farce’ as 33-1 Cesarewitch winner Alphonse Le Grande was disqualified and jockey Jamie Powell banned for breaking whip rules.
The result of Saturday’s big Newmarket race had been in limbo for days as chiefs convened to settle once and for all if Powell had gone over the limit of six uses of the whip.
They found he had, banning him for 28 days and naming initial runner-up Maxman the official winner of the 2m2f Flat handicap.
Those who backed the fancied Manxman – who originally lost by a nose – will NOT get paid out.
Punters who backed Alphonse Le Grande, even though he has been stripped of the victory, got paid out by the bookies on Saturday.
The wait to crown the official winner of the race has left a nasty taste in the mouth of punters – with some arguing bosses MUST come to a decision on the day.
A BHA statement read: “Following his ride on Alphonse Le Grande in the Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap on Saturday 12 October, apprentice jockey Jamie Powell was referred to the Whip Review Committee (WRC) for use of the whip above the permitted level.
“Having reviewed the footage and taken evidence from the jockey, the stewards on the day counted that the rider had used his whip ten times, which is four uses above the permitted level of six in a Flat race.
“The ride and all evidence was therefore referred to the WRC, as is standard practice.
“The WRC meets every Tuesday and Friday. Having reviewed the race and the evidence, the WRC have confirmed that the whip was used on ten occasions by Mr Powell.
“All ten uses made contact with the horse, and none of the uses were clearly and unequivocally for safety purposes only.
“As ten uses of the whip is four above the permitted level, Alphonse Le Grande has been disqualified from the race.
“In addition, Jamie Powell has been suspended for 28 days, this being a Class 2 contest with a total prize fund of more than £150,000.
“As a result of the disqualification, the Club Godolphin Cesarewitch has been awarded to original runner-up, Manxman.
“Should they wish to, connections of Alphonse Le Grande may appeal this decision.”
While Brant Dunshea, Chief Regulatory Officer for the BHA, said: “There is simply no excuse for using the whip four times or more above the permitted level.
“It is encouraging that there have been so few instances of this being the case since the rule was introduced, with this being only the third time a winner has been disqualified for egregious overuse of the whip.
“We understand that some customers will question why this matter cannot be resolved on raceday, especially those who backed the on-the-day runner up Manxman.
“However, this would present its own challenges, and the consultation process of the whip review revealed a strong preference from several key audiences that these matters should be handled away from raceday.
“The Whip Review Committee (WRC) was introduced to ensure consistency of decision-making around whip decisions.
“It is critical that decisions of such importance as potential disqualification are handled in a consistent manner via this process.”
