Who is Isabella Hooker?

Isabella Hooker has been a pillar of support throughout her husband’s fighting career.

While Dan has very much been in the limelight while making significant strides in the octagon, Isabella has largely maintained a low profile.

Isabella and Dan were in a long-term relationship before they tied the knot in 2016.

Their wedding was an intimate celebration held in Phuket, Thailand, which was attended by close family and friends.

Career

While details about Isabella’s professional endeavours are limited, reports suggests that she works as a yoga instructor.

Isabella has proven to be an invaluable support system for Dan throughout his UFC journey.

Her unwavering encouragement has been particularly evident during challenging times, such as during the Covid-19 pandemic.

While travel restrictions kept Dan away from home for extended periods, Isabella helped maintain their connection by sending videos of their home life.

When Dan went toe-to-toe with Islam Makhachev at UFC 267 in October 2021, he stepped up on short notice when Rafael dos Anjos pulled out due to an injury.

When he was interviewed after losing the fight, Dan was asked whether his wife had any worries about him taking the fight without a full training camp.

Dan told The MMA Hour: “She knows me. I don’t think it was much of a shock … I called her up and said, ‘I took the Islam fight’, and she’s just like, ‘Yeah, alright’.”

Sabrina Carpenter ‘curse’ on sports teams spotted by fans who beg her to wear Kansas City Chiefs jersey

FANS believe that pop music star Sabrina Carpenter has the capability of being a jinx to sports teams.

The 25-year-old Expresso singer has recently worn sports jerseys and NFL fans want her to rock one of the Kansas City Chiefs variety.

Last month, Carpenter donned a bedazzled Toronto Maple Leafs jersey during a Toronto performance of her Short N’Sweet Tour.

The 2024-25 NHL season hadn’t started yet, but the Maple Leafs lost their season opener last week.

Toronto was defeated by the rival Canada squad Montreal Canadiens.

Then, last Tuesday, Carpenter wore a custom Philadelphia Phillies jersey, with the number 69 on the back, while performing at Philly’s Wells Fargo Center.

The 25-year-old is a native of Philly.

However, a day later, the Phillies lost in Game 4 of the NLDS playoffs series to the New York Mets.

The game was the series-clincher for the Mets, who advanced to the NLCS and eliminated the Phillies from the playoffs.

So the last two times Carpenter wore a jersey for a specific team, that same team lost their next contest.

Fans spotted that she has a “curse” on sports teams and now want her to rock a Chiefs jersey to stop the two-time Super Bowl defending champion and currently undefeated 5-0 squad.

“Phillies: DEAD. Leafs: lost season opener to Montreal. Will be monitoring the Sabrina Carpenter curse going forward,” one said.

“The Sabrina Carpenter is real. Please wear a Chiefs jersey ASAP,” another wrote.

“Someone get Sabrina a Chiefs jersey immediately,” a third added.

Fortunately for the Maple Leafs, they won the next two games after their season-opening loss.

However, fans believe that the Carpenter curse has continued as the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Detroit Lions 47-9 in Week 6 on Sunday.

Last week, Carpenter was spotted rocking a Cowboys sweater while out for lunch in New York City.

She also wore blue denim shorts and leather boots.

But a couple of days later, Dallas was blown out at home by Detroit.

Fans will have to monitor Carpenter’s jersey-wearing habits.

Her headlining tour is coming off a show in Chicago, Illinois, and will perform in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Monday.

The North American leg of the Short N’Sweet Tour will end on November 18 with a show in Inglewood, California.

Festivalgoers fighting $500 tow bills after cars were yanked from lot as driver insists there were ‘no signs posted’

FESTIVALGOERS have blasted tow companies for yanking their cars and charging massive $500 fines – despite having limited warning signs.

Attendees of a Renaissance festival feel blindsided by the fees, but operators claim there was more than sufficient guidance.

Adinwoh said her son was towed and charged over $500 after he parked in a shopping center near the Age of Chivalry festival in Las Vegas, Nevada

In Las Vegas, Nevada, fantasy lovers, and history buffs came together to attend the Age of Chivalry festival, where knights battle it out in jousting tournaments and themed vendors offer medieval souvenirs.

The popular weekend-long event was held in a park with limited parking in North Las Vegas from October 11th to the 13th, leading some to find alternate spots.

One teen who went to the festival parked at a nearby shopping center with his friends and was horrified to find it had disappeared after the day’s activities.

Once he tracked down the car, the price to get it back left him speechless.

“They picked up my son’s car and took it all the way to North Las Vegas, which was OK,” his mom, Adinwoh, told ABC affiliate KTNV.

“But when I got there, I was shocked that for a 20-mile drive, their charge was over $500.

“It’s wrong.”

In the parking lot, there are signs warning drivers that spaces are for customers only, but Adinwoh said the signage wasn’t visible from her son’s spot.

Now, she’s begging the shopping center to make changes that could save drivers hundreds.

“When there’s an event, there should be some kind of tape,” she said.

“My kid actually ate at the McDonald’s, which is still at the same parking complex.

“How do you justify that he only went to Renaissance, and he was not using the other businesses around?”

Other attendees have complained that signs weren’t appropriately posted throughout the lot.

One Renaissance fan claimed a sign simply urged her not to leave valuables in her car but didn’t mention she could be returned to a painful $500 fee.

What to do if your car is towed

Wrongfully or not, retrieving a towed vehicle can be a hassle.

If your vehicle is towed after parking in a “No Parking” zone or other legitimate reason, there are a few steps to take to get it back.

Steps to take when your car is towed:

  • Try to figure out why your car was towed. Did you not see a posted “No Parking” sign? Did you miss a car payment? Did you return to a lot where you have unpaid citations? Finding the reason can narrow down the phone numbers to dial.
  • Locate the vehicle. Most states, cities, or counties require towing companies to leave some form of contact information via a posted sign or sent by mail.
  • Recovery dates and times depend on the company that towed the vehicle, but those times will be posted to the website or can be recited by a representative.
  • Pay the fees. Be careful to be as prompt as possible, as some tow yards may charge storage fees by the day.

If you feel your vehicle was wrongfully towed, contesting the action can be done with the following steps:

  • Be prompt – many states have a small window of time where it’s acceptable to file a complaint against a company that wrongfully towed the vehicle.
  • Gather supporting documents: photos, emails, receipts, police reports, and witness statements if applicable. The more evidence, the better.
  • Get familiar with your local laws, as laws for towing companies vary per state.
  • Try speaking with the towing company. Sometimes it may have been a simple oversight, and the matter can be resolved quickly.
  • Contact the Justice of the Peace in your area, as they may have more insight or resources to help. They are often utilized for towing cases.
  • Talk to a lawyer. Many lawyers have free case consultations, and depending on the case, it may be worth it to utilize a lawyer.

And another speculated that operators come out of the woodwork for these events and wait for drivers to leave their cars to pounce.

“They knew that the fair was happening, and they targeted that area knowing that there was no signage except the one sign off of the entrance off of Eastern and Sunset,” Denise, who went to the festival, said.

Kings Towing and Tow Guys were two companies that pulled cars from the lot, and neither of them admitted to wrongdoing.

Kings did not comment on the local outlets, while Tow Guys said they followed the rules.

One crew member with Tow Guys admitted they pulled “a lot” of cars during the festival weekend.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to both companies for comment.

On Age of Chivalry’s website, festivalgoers are advised to park at the park or at two nearby public schools.

“Please avoid parking in unauthorized areas such as nearby businesses or red zones, as vehicles parked in these locations will be subject to tow,” the website reads.

Risk of bird flu combining with seasonal flu to create mutant strain is 5 times higher – raising ‘pandemic’ fears

THE risk of bird flu merging with seasonal flu to create a dangerous mutant strain is now very high, experts have warned.

They fear the new bug could be as lethal as bird flu and as transmissible as regular flu, giving it the potential to cause a pandemic.

Bird flu could become spreading among people, which might cause major outbreaks,[/caption]

When two viruses infect someone at the same time, they can mix and create a new, possibly more harmful variant, through a process called reassortment.

The risk of bird flu reassorting this winter will be five times higher in the winter, compared with the summer, according to preliminary modelling by analytics firm Airfinity.

Bird flu, specifically the H5N1 strain, has been spreading through cattle herds and poultry this year.

At least 17 people have been infected with H5N1 strain in the US this year – almost all of them poultry or dairy workers who had direct contact with sick animals.

Bird flu has a high mortality rate, but currently spreads ineffectively between humans, making it less of a threat.

But if it were to combine with a more transmissible flu variant like seasonal flu it could become better at spreading among people, which might cause major outbreaks, experts at the data firm warn.

The likelihood of dairy and poultry workers also being infected with seasonal flu rises in winter, when flu cases rise natually.

Infections always surge in colder months largely due to colder temperatures, indoor crowding, and weakened immune systems.

On top of this, early data from the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) suggests the effectiveness of the 2024 flu vaccine to be as low as 35 per cent.

Coupled with a low uptake of the jab, which would leave more people at risk, these factors raise the likelihood of reassortment taking place, said Connor Browne, a biorisk consultant.

“The combination of a lower-than-expected efficacy for this year’s flu vaccine and the likelihood that uptake of the vaccine could well be lower than in previous years increases the chances of a H5N1 reassortment event occurring through coinfection,” he said on X, formally Twitter.

Reassortment has been behind most, if not all, historical flu pandemics, including the 2009 ‘swine flu‘ pandemic.

This particualr strain, called H1N1, was a combination of avian, swine, and human influenza viruses, which led to a new variant which was able to spread rapidly.

It led to the deaths of an estimated quarter of a million people and infected up to 21 per cent of the global population.

Bird flu is already on the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) list of diseases with pandemic potenital, along with Ebola, Dengue and the black death.

Dr Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organisation, told a press conference on Thursday that the US needs to focus on “access to testing, getting vaccines to people with high-risk occupational exposure, and answer some of the basic science questions – like how the virus is being transmitted between cows”.

Bird flu: Could it be the next human pandemic?

By Isabel Shaw, health reporter

BIRD flu is running rampant in wildlife around the world and is now spreading in cows.

This increase in transmission has given the virus lots of opportunities to mutate – a process where a pathogen changes and can become more dangerous.

Scientists fear it’s only a matter of time before one of these mutations makes it better at spreading among mammals – and potentially humans.

Some experts believe the virus could already be spreading among some animal species.

So far, there is no evidence that H5N1 can spread between humans.

But in the hundreds of cases where humans have been infected through contact with animals over the past 20 years, the mortality rate is high.

From 2003 to 2024, 889 cases and 463 deaths caused by H5N1 have been reported worldwide from 23 countries, according to the World Health Organisation.

This puts the case fatality rate at 52 per cent.

Leading scientists have already warned an influenza is the pathogen most likely to trigger a new pandemic in the near future.

The prospect of a flu pandemic is alarming.

Although scientists have pointed out that vaccines against many strains, including H5N1, have already been developed, others are still in the pipeline.

Drivers face $300 fines under new parking crackdown – certain vehicles are banned and will be towed without warning

DRIVERS will face $300 fines under a strict new parking rule – which could even see vehicles towed away without warning.

A new bill being considered by lawmakers in Pennsylvania would make parking a gas-powered car in an EV parking spot fineable.

The harsh new rules are set to punish drivers who park illegally in spots reserved only for electric cars[/caption]

According to NBC Philadelphia, Carowners caught parking their combustion vehicle in a spot reserved for EVs could soon be forced to pay up to $300.

A new bill is currently making its way through the state’s House of Representatives that would introduce harsh fines for drivers who park illegally in spots reserved only for electric cars.

Under the legislation, spots reserved for EVs will be marked with signs, and non-electric cars found parked in these places will be hit with fines between $50 and $200.

What’s more, an offending vehicle could even be towed under legislation without any prior warning – although cars could only be towed if the sign had a clear warning about towing.

NBC10’s partner, KYW NewsRadio, claims the bill has moved out of the State House Transportation Committee with bipartisan support, 22-to-3.

KYW said that the bill will next move to the full House for consideration.

House Transportation Committee Chairman Ed Nielsen said: “The demand for electric vehicles continues to grow.

“Although Pennsylvania is working to install more vehicle charges, they are limited.

“So when someone parks in that spot and has a vehicle that needs to be charged, we need to make sure there’s room for them if we can.”

This comes just weeks after Pennsylvania became the last state in the US to allow doorless driving.

Jeep and Bronco drivers can finally travel without doors on their vehicles, although standard safety rules must still be followed.

That means side-view mirrors are still required on every car, and regular seatbelt rules must always be followed.

In the past, doorless driving was only allowed off-road in the state.

Elsewhere, lawmakers have raised fears over AI license plate readers being used to track drivers’ movements and inadvertently helping criminals.

Officials suggested that the technology could violate protections against warrantless searches and be open to abuse.
