AS the temperature cools down the deals heat up with Aldi’s cosy winter gadgets set to hit the shelves in days.

With heating costs being a hot topic of conversation this year, these blankets could be a solution to keeping those bills down.

Many homes are set to be subjected a detrimental change in their energy bill as the cold snap approaches, with some set to rise by £149 each year.

Preparing yourself for the chill can be one way to save money this season.

Running at a remarkable cost of 4p an hour, this electric blanket may be the key to keeping cool about energy bills this Christmas.

The electric blanket comes in snowy white, cool grey, and toasty charcoal and is even machine washable.

Despite being 160 watts and providing 230 volts of warmth, the cosy throw has a detachable lead that allows it to be popped in the wash with your other winter warmers.

The nine adjustable temperature levels allow you to tailor your blanket to your taste – providing the perfect measure of comfort for you.

To warm up your bed before getting cosy for the frosty nights to come, Aldi recommends using a higher setting to preheat your bed.

This can create the ultimate comfort for when you’re ready to drift off.

How does it compare

A quick Google brings up a range of heated blankets that can go from £84.99 at Lakeland to £150 at The White Company.

Not all heated throws will break the bank though with Asda offering an electric teddy fleece for £30.00.

Argos is also selling a heated blanket in the £35 range.

If you’re looking to cut costs as much as possible, Amazon offers a variety of heated blankets with one going at a spectacular £18.99.

However this doesn’t come with Ambiano Heated Throw’s nine settings.

How much does it cost to run a heated throw?

Aldi claims it costs an extraordinary 4p an hour to run the Ambiano Heated Throw.

If you want get your bed toasty for a couple hours a night, this would tot up to 56p a week.

For a whole year of using the blankets for two hours you would be spending under £30 in total.

How to save money at Aldi

Aldi doesn’t have a membership program or a point system which offer deals on specific items.

However they offer the Aldi specialbuys in which there are a range of new deals that drop each week, with the winter gadget speical buys coming in on 17 October.

These deals are specific to Aldi can can be found on their website and in-store as well.

On Sunday 13 October there are a collection of laundry and cleaning deals set to hit the shelves.

It’s understood he collapsed after taking ill.

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said: “The sad news of Alex Salmond’s passing today will come as a shock to all who knew him in Scotland, across the U.K and beyond.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time and on behalf of Scottish Labour I offer our sincere condolences to all who will be mourning his loss.

“Alex was a central figure in politics for over three decades and his contribution to the Scottish political landscape can not be overstated.

“It is right that we recognise Alex’s service to our country as First Minister and to the communities he represented as both MP and MSP.”

Former SNP MP Joanna Cherry added: “I am devastated to hear that Alex Salmond has died. He was one of the most talented politicians of his generation, and, by any measure, the finest First Minister our country has had. He changed the face of Scottish politics.

“I shall remember him as an inspiration and a loyal friend. My heartfelt condolences go to Moira, his family, and all who loved him.”

Former First Minister Humza Yousaf wrote: “Alex and I obviously had our differences in the last few years, but there’s no doubt about the enormous contribution he made to Scottish and UK politics.

“As well as helping to transform the SNP into the dominant political force it is today. My condolences to his family and friends.”

Mr Salmond was First Minister of Scotland between 2007 and 2014.

He resigned after failing in his bid to persuade Scots to vote for independence in a referendum in 2014.

He returned to Westminster as MP for Gordon between 2015 and 2017.

Mr Salmond resigned from the SNP in August 2018 after allegations of sexual offences.

During a criminal trial in 2020 he was cleared of 14 sexual assault charges.

Mr Salmond announced he was stepping down the day after Yes lost.

He recalled: “I wasn’t under any pressure to resign but by taking responsibility it cleared the field for the SNP. Those who lost the referendum emerged very quickly as the political winners.”

In the fifth round of the fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Whittaker was pushed over the top rope during a clinch.

With only Cameron in the ring, the judges ultimately scored the fight as a draw[/caption]

Cameron was seen pushing his light heavyweight opponent towards the corner of the ring, before they both ended up tumbling over the rope in an incident that could be mistaken for a WWE move.

After being flattened out in the fall, Cameron managed to get himself back to his feet and back in the ring quickly before gesturing he was ready to continue.

However, 2020 Olympic silver medal winner Whittaker was unable to continue with an injured right leg after medical treatment.

The Surgeon seemed set to lose his undefeated record with Cameron on course for an upset victory.

But the three ringside judges called it: 58-87, Whittaker, 58-57 Cameron and 58-58 for a draw – leaving Cameron gutted.

Cameron wisely kept a high and tight guard in the opener, when The Surgeon tried to open him up with scything shots.

The closest he came was backing the Sheffield man up onto the ropes and unloading.

Cameron looked pinned in and vulnerable but he weathered the sand storm and got away to see out the round.

Cameron enjoyed a moment of success in the second, tagging Whittaker close-up.

But the Wolves wonder took the blows comfortably and then clinched and could be seen whispering in Cameron’s ear.

But the underdog got revenge later on, sucking up a handful of lean Whittaker digs but sticking his tongue out to show he wasn’t harmed.

Whittaker raced into a third-round lead with a trademark screwshit uppercut. But Cameron swallowed it and went on to snatch the round back.

The favourite was pinged plenty of times and even resorted to leading with his head in an effort to pierce Cameron’s closed guard.

Whittaker had a stinker in the fourth and was lucky Cameron is not a power puncher at 12st 7lbs.

It seemed like every punch he bounced off the Midlander’s grinning face.

Referee Victor Loughlin bottled docking Whittaker a point in the fifth when he kept headbutting and hitting low. 

ONCE the envy of its competitors, Nike were the pioneers of collaborating with the world’s greatest living sportsman and teams.

Michael Jordan’s stardom brought Air Jordans to the fore, which dominated the sneaker world.

Tiger Woods’ famous red polo emblazoned with the Nike tick was symbolic of golf in the 1990’s.

French football giants PSG’s capsule collection dominated fashion circles and was worn by fashionistas that didn’t even follow the beautiful game – but just wanted to look beautiful.

And Cristiano Ronaldo took over the reins from Jordan as the brand’s face – inking what’s believed to be a lifetime deal. The endorsements from sports superstars were very real.

But, despite being the athletes choice, Nike’s financial outlook appears to be quite bleak.

Back in June, the American sportswear giant suffered its biggest single day drop in share price on record.

The figure, a staggering $28bn, was taken off in market capitalisation over night when the company’s management reported sales to drop in 2025.

New brands like HOKA and On Running took up shelf-store space, as Nike prioritised becoming a digital first company – selling their sneakers on their website and app.

Last month, CEO John Donahoe stepped down from his role and was replaced by Elliott Hill, a one time intern who began his career at Nike in the 1980s.

So, where did it all go wrong for Nike – which, incredibly, still is the biggest sports retailer in the world?

Changing of the guard

In 2020, Donahoe became Nike’s chief executive. He was immediately tasked with revamping their online sales to bring in more digital revenue.

On paper he appeared the right man for the job. Previously, he had worked with eBay, one of the largest ecommerce companies in the world.

The blueprint for Nike’s future was to become a tech company at the forefront of the digital shopping revolution through its website and app.

The high street and departments stores like Macy’s and Footlocker were deemed less important.

This seemed like a masterstroke when Covid hit and retailers were forced to shift to online sales anyway.

As many worked from home, office wear and smart shoes were being buried in wardrobes.

Leisure wear and sneakers, and whatever else was comfortable, became the norm as billions around the world waited with baited breath to what would happen next.

Unsurprisingly, Nike’s profits surged well past projections made.

It was all going swimmingly.

Until…

Buoyed by that success, Donahoe decided to focus all Nike’s efforts on their digital platforms.

Nike’s shoes and clothing was moved out of hundreds of stores, while the brand also cut ties with several sales partners, including JD Sports, Dillards and Urban Outfitters.

Donahoe confidently claimed: “The consumer today is digitally grounded and simply will not revert back.”

However, that strategy backfired when Covid rules were relaxed.

It became apparent that consumers wanted that brick and mortars experience once again when they were allowed back in the shops.

“I think they underestimated the cultural aspect of brick-and-mortar shopping as part of the social life of young consumers,” former Nike employee Daniel Herval told the Money blog.

“Nike thought people had shifted to online, and they’d left the brick-and-mortar experience behind.

“But as soon as things started reopening, the social aspect of shopping, the community bonding aspect of shopping, returned, and Nike weren’t really there.”

Losing out to competitors

By this time, Nike was beginning to have to share its space with other, newer brands.

Those former sales partners of Nike were now shifting sneakers by On, endorsed by Roger Federer, HOKA, and Asics instead in their stores.

Worse still, they started to look more innovative too in the world of running.

HOKA’s running shoes are light and boast thick foam soles that runners prefer.

On, who patented their own cushioning system technology with their footwear, have also become popular among serious runners and casual joggers.

And dare someone say – Nike have even become less fashionable on the street.

Adidas Sambas and Gazelles have never been trendier, while New Balance’s 990’s are, as the ad said, ‘Worn by supermodels and dads in Ohio.’

Consumer boredom with the brand meant Nike’s famous sneaker sales began to fizzle.

In crisis

In December 2023, Nike’s revenue forecast was lower for the first time ever.

Donahoe revealed the brand would embark on a three-year cost-cutting plan to the tune of $2bn, which included laying off two per cent of their work force.

That created uncertainty among staff, who reportedly lost faith in their leader.

Cutting corners also meant Nike completely forgot about local grassroots running clubs, claimed an article in the Wall Street Journal.

In the summer, Nike cut their revenue forecast once again, which led to that huge stock decline and a $24bn drop in market cap.

A month later, Donahoe was in the firing line again.

“The CEO of Nike doesn’t come from the industry,” former Nike marketing executive Massimo Giunco shared on LinkedIn.

“At the end, he is a poorly advised, ‘data-driven guy.’ ”

When Donahoe announced his departure, stocks in Nike rose by seven per cent.

Now, it’s the turn of Nike ‘lifer’ Elliott Hill to return to the fold and restore its culture through his intimate knowledge.

But, is it a case of too little, too late?

According to Sport DFW, running back Ezekiel Elliott revealed this week he has spoken to the coaching staff about his role in the team.

The 29-year-old “remains dumbfounded” by his lack of reps in the red zone after seeing his snaps decrease week by week.

Elliott returned to the Cowboys on a one-year deal in May after a season with the New England Patriots.

However, he has made only made 30 carries for just 98 rushing yards so far this season.

The former Ohio State standout was drafted fourth overall by the Cowboys in the 2016 draft.

ARTUR Beterbiev has a compelling family story that has shaped his journey to the top of the game.

He’s going toe-to-toe with Dmitry Bivol on October 12, 2024 — with the winner crowned undisputed light-heavyweight champion of the world.

Early life and family background

Artur Beterbiev was born on January 21, 1985, in Khasavyurt, Dagestan, Russia.

He grew up in a large family as the youngest of five brothers.

The Beterbievs lived through tumultuous times, surviving three wars following the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Richard Karn, 68, played Al Borland on long-running comedy Home Improvement.

He starred opposite the likes of Tim Allen, Patricia Richardson, Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Earl Hindman.

The actor was snapped alongside wife Tudi Roche as they headed out for grocery shopping in Los Angeles.

Richard wore a short-sleeve golf shirt, navy blue shorts and grey slip-on sneakers.

Meanwhile, former game show host Richard has slimmed down and now sports grey hair and a white beard.

On Home Improvement, Al served as the co-host of “Tool Time”, a show-within-the-show.

Tim’s right-hand man was well-known for his beard and repeated attire of plaid flannel shirts.
