A collision involving a bus travelling from Bangkok to Chiang Rai and a trailer truck unfolded in Song district, Phrae province, injuring 45 people. The unfortunate incident took place this morning, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns in the region.
The Highways Department reported that the accident occurred around 6.15am, today, November 5, on Highway 103. The impact was severe enough to overturn the interprovincial bus, which was left lying on its side by the road. Fortunately, those in the trailer truck emerged unscathed, though further details about the truck and its occupants remain undisclosed.
With 47 passengers and crew aboard, the air-conditioned bus had embarked from the capital the previous night. The journey was intended to conclude in Chiang Saen district, Chiang Rai province, as reported by Channel 3.
Ramphu Chantapatu, the head of the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office in Phrae, provided an update on the situation.
“Forty-five people on the bus sustained injuries, with one individual in serious condition. All injured parties have been transported to Song Hospital.”
Police are actively investigating the circumstances and cause of the crash, seeking clarity on how the mishap unfolded, reported Bangkok Post.
In related news, a tour bus carrying passengers from a religious event crashed into four vehicles on October 20 due to brake failure, injuring 38 people, with two in critical condition. The incident occurred on Mittraphap Road near Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima.
The crash happened at approximately 1.30am, and police and emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene. The yellow and white air-conditioned bus, operating between Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi, had picked up passengers from a broken-down bus only 20 kilometres before the crash site.
In other news, a coach bus driver crashed into a 12-wheel truck carrying pigs on Phet Kasem Road in the central province of Nakhon Pathom on October 14, leaving 31 university students injured. Officers from Mueang Nakhon Pathom Police Station investigated the accident at about 6.45pm, along with rescuers from the Suksalanukroh Nakhon Pathom Foundation.
