RITCHIE EDHOUSE has a special reason for throwing as many 180s as possible at Ally Pally – because cash will go to a charity close to his heart.
Sponsors Paddy Power are once again donating £1,000 for every maximum thrown by the 96 players across 16 days of competition.
Ritchie Edhouse has revealed his special reason for throwing as many 180s as he can[/caption]
There were 914 in total last time but the betting firm rounded up from £914,000 to £1million.
The money went to Prostate Cancer UK and the hope is this dosh will go some way to saving lives by encouraging men in their 40s upwards to get themselves checked early.
And £60,000 went to the cause when Dutchman Christian Kist threw a nine-darter on Wednesday night.
Edhouse – who had a breakthrough moment in October when he won the European Championship – knows all about the deadly disease as it is something his family are dealing with.
Basildon-born Edhouse, 41, told SunSport: “At the moment, my father-in-law Bob is suffering with prostate cancer and is about to start treatment next week.
“It originally started in 2019 but he had a stroke as well, so he wasn’t strong enough, and then there was Covid.
“He loves the darts. He supports me. He’s a proud man. He would tell me: ‘Man up, just get on with it, it happens all the time.’
“If he wasn’t so weak, he would 100% be at Ally Pally. Before and after my games, he will be on my mind.
“I want to smash the 180s and hopefully earn a lot of money for the charity.
“So, it’s close to home. It’s a good charity. Whatever we can do for it, with the money raised, hopefully we can smash the £1million mark.
“It’s very important that people get checked. It doesn’t take long. It could save lives.”
Edhouse, who is based in Enfield, banked £120,000 when he crushed Jermaine Wattimena 11–3 in the Euros final in Dortmund.
Madhouse eliminated Michael Smith and Gary Anderson from the tournament in Germany as he celebrated a career-high.
The former carpet fitter, who plays Ian White on Sunday, said: “Everything worked out that weekend. I got home and my grandkids made a big mural on the wall, saying: ‘Well done granddad.’
“I was very emotional. There were big cuddles and kisses.
“They loved the trophy. But that’s all they keep asking me. It doesn’t matter wherever I am playing now. They all ask: ‘Have you won a trophy?’”
+ Paddy Power and Prostate Cancer UK aim to inspire at least 180,000 men to take the lifesaving risk checker this year.
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk go toe-to-toe for a second time on Saturday[/caption]
Roberto Ramirez Jr (left) will be in charge of the fight[/caption]
Who is Roberto Ramirez Jr?
Roberto Ramirez Jr is a professional boxing referee from Puerto Rico.
His father, Roberto Ramirez Sr, was also a respected referee who presided over title fights, including Aaron Pryor vs Gaetan Hart in November 1980 for the WBA light-welterweight belt.
Ramirez Jr followed in his father’s footsteps, beginning his professional refereeing career in 2003.
Over the course of his career to date, he has officiated an impressive 412 bouts, including multiple world title fights.
First heavyweight title fight
While Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk 2 will be the first heavyweight world title fight he has reffed, Ramirez Jr has overseen some big clashes in the top division.
Beyond his in-ring duties, Ramirez Jr has actively contributed to the development of boxing officiating.
Expertise
In October 2023, he participated in a WBO Referee and Judges Seminar in Nicaragua, sharing his expertise with aspiring officials.
He is committed to improving the standard of officiating in boxing and passing on his knowledge to the next generation of referees.
Furthermore, Ramirez Jr has been involved in WBO conventions, further cementing his standing in the international boxing community.
Criticism
While Ramirez Jr has generally enjoyed a controversy-free career, he has not been immune to criticism.
It was such a high-status fight, why would you put in a referee no one had heard of?
Chantelle CameronBBC Radio Northampton
Following Chantelle Cameron’s defeat by Katie Taylor in their November 2023 rematch, both Cameron and her former trainer Jamie Moore expressed dissatisfaction with Ramirez Jr’s officiating.
Cameron told BBC Radio Northampton: “It wasn’t just me and Katie in that ring. If it was, I’d take the loss and say the better woman won on the night.
“I had everything against me. The ref on the night… It was such a high-status fight, why would you put in a referee no one had heard of?
“That’s not my job, it’s my job to fight. I don’t look into who’s reffing, who’s judging.
Chantelle Cameron wasn’t happy with Roberto Ramirez Jr’s performance during her rematch with Katie Taylor[/caption]
“I’m just frustrated — if I could turn back the hands of time, I would make sure that was all looked into. I’ve learnt my lesson.”
In a post-fight interview, Moore said: “We were denied a knockdown in the first round, which should have been a 100% legitimate knockdown.
“I begged the referee in the changing room before the fight, please, last time, she got away with holding a lot.
“My fighter’s best work is up close. Please don’t let her hold the way she did last time this time. And he allowed her to go on worse this time than it was last time.”
“So I’m gutted for her because she was so frustrated by the fourth and fifth rounds because she was holding that much.
“From watching what I watched, if Chantelle was allowed to do the work that she can do on the inside, it would have been a different result.”

TESLA has recalled almost 700,000 cars after a potentially deadly fault was discovered.
An issue with the warning light on the tyre pressure monitoring system was found in the luxury electronic vehicles.
The Tesla Cybertruck has been plagued with issues[/caption]
Elon Musk heads up the luxury electric vehicle company[/caption]
The Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck have been affected, according to Tesla.
Owners of the affected cars will be sent a letter on February 15 next year and the issue will be resolved through a free software update.
Elon Musk’s company is recalling 694,304 of its 2024 Cybertruck models, 2015 to 2017 Model 3 and 2020 to 2025 Model Y, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration letter.
The letter reads: “The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning light may not remain illuminated between drive cycles, failing to warn the driver of low tire pressure.
“Driving with improperly inflated tires increases the risk of a crash.”
No crashes, deaths or injuries caused by the fault have been reported at the time of writing.
This isn’t the first time the vehicles have been plagued with problems.
Tesla recalled 1.85 million vehicles in July after an issue with the bonnets.
The affected motors had a software issue that could fail to detect an unlached hood whilst driving.
In May it called more than 125,000 vehicles of four different models due to a problem with the seat belts.
In February Tesla recalled more than 2million vehicles because the warning signals were showing up on a smaller font size.
The Cybertruck has been especially problematic and has been recalled seven times, with the most recent only last month.
The futuristic-motor is made with armoured glass and a faster 0-60mph time than a McLarenorLamborghini.
The Sun has approached Tesla for comment.

The wildly popular chat app has received dozens of upgrades in 2024 – but it’s hard to keep up unless you’re a total WhatsApp obsessive.
WhatsApp has revealed its easy-to-miss upgrades for the app from 2024[/caption]
Even WhatsApp admits that it’s added so many new features that they “might have slipped your attention”.
In a special memo, WhatsApp revealed several of its biggest changes of 2024.
Top of the list was the ability for users to manage their contacts via WhatsApp Web.
As well as that, you can also manage them via other linked devices – including with on Windows PCs.
This upgrade also meant that you could save contacts exclusively to WhatsApp – rather than having to add them to your phone first.
To help you stay organised, WhatsApp also added the Custom Lists and Favourites.
One of the biggest changes was the addition of Events.
It means you can set up gatherings for friends or family right inside WhatsApp, and manage the whole process without leaving the app.
“The new Events feature allows users to create events, track RSVPs, and receive automatic reminders,” WhatsApp explained.
“Event details are always accessible in the group’s information page, so you always have it at your fingertips.”
Video calling received a surprise upgrade, letting you chat with up to 32 people – with the added perk of using filters and backgrounds.
Regular calling “reliablity” on WhatsApp also got a boost, although it’s not something you need to specifically turn on.
“Calls made on mobile devices have improved noise and echo cancellation, and video calls have higher resolution for those with faster connections,” WhatsApp said.
There are new Channel Categories so you can quickly find the channels you want to follow.

PARIS Fury has jetted off to Saudia Arabia to support her husband’s Tyson Fury for his upcoming fight.
The 35-year-old landed in the country on Thursday ahead of Tyson’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk to be titled heavyweight champion of the world once again.
Paris and Tyson Fury celebrate his victory after the WBC World Heavyweight Title Fight in 2022[/caption]
Paris arrived at the press conference last night before the rematch[/caption]
The mum-of-seven has always been supportive of her husband’s career often flying out to see him box.
And it was no different for his upcoming fight as Paris travelled first-class with their eldest son PrinceJohn James, 13.
Posting on her Instagram stories, Paris smiled for the selfie, wearing a black zip-up top with her hair up in a bun.
The teen flashed a cheeky grin and put his thumbs up for the snap.
Alongside the picture, Paris tagged Tyson and her eldest son and simply penned: “On our way.”
Last night she was seen wearing a bejewelled white roob as she attended the press conference for the fight.
But in May of this year when Tyson first battled the Ukranian fighter, which he lost, she was missing.
Recently, Paris opened up about the tragic reason she was unable to come to the fight.
The pair had opened up about wanting 10 children but tragically lost their eighth child earlier this year due to a miscarriage.
She recalled the moment she was told that she had miscarried for the third time, having also lost babies in 2014 and 2018.
The mum share the tragic reason she wasn’t able to watch him fight in May[/caption]
Tyson and Paris have been together since the ages of 16 and 17 years old[/caption]
“I knew there was a problem. I didn’t know, my head was sort of telling me, actually, no, you’re wrong… but I was looking at screen, thinking, ‘Why is that not flickering?,” she told the Mirror.
The star said she was in tears when the sonographer broke the news to her, saying she felt “frantic and in disbelief”.
She was then sent to Lancaster Hospital the following day to be seen by another specialist.
Opening up about the heartbreak of losing three children, Paris said: “I lost one in the first trimester, and two in the second trimester, two that I’ve had to deliver. We’ve buried two baby boys.”
WITH world champ titles, multiple kids and a beautiful wife by his side, Tyson is much-loved by the nation, but his romance with Paris dates back to their teenage years.
Paris met Fury when she was just 15 at a mutual friend’s wedding.
However, it wasn’t until a year later, when their paths crossed again on a night out in Doncaster for her 16th birthday, that they began dating.
Paris explained: “He was my first boyfriend as I was not allowed a boyfriend until the age of 16. He is the only boyfriend I have had.
“Tyson would train in boxing during the week and then come and see me at the weekend. I would always be so excited at the thought of seeing him.”
In 2008, they tied the knot in front of 400 guests and slept together for the first time on the night of their wedding.
In 2016, Fury’s mental health issues, cocaine and alcohol abuse, and intolerable mood swings threatened their seemingly unbreakable marriage.
On occasion, Paris would even contemplate leaving – packing her bags and getting into her car.
However, she’d just stop herself – admitting she couldn’t leave Tyson to “crash and burn”.
The former heavyweight world champion, 36, lost to the Ukrainian in their undisputed showdown in Saudi Arabia on May 18.
Paris was due to arrive in Riyadh on the Friday, the day before the fight, but selflessly called Tyson to say it was due to high blood pressure.
I could not be there for her in that moment. And that is tough for me.
Tyson Fury
Paris wanted to tell her husband after the fight and in person, adding: “It does affect the father, but for the woman who carries that child, it is more severe. No matter how much it hurts Tyson, it’s 10 times worse for me.”
Ahead of the rematch Tyson revealed his heartbreak at not being with his wife during the tragic time.
He said: “I could not be there for her in that moment. And that is tough for me.
“I have been with the woman for longer than I wasn’t with her, so it is hard that I couldn’t be there with her, in that time.
“When she said she couldn’t come over, I knew there was a problem.
“She usually comes out on fight week but she said she had high blood pressure.
“She said she couldn’t come and I asked her what was up and asked her to tell me but she wouldn’t.
“So I knew, I knew, I knew there was a problem. I said to my brother, ‘She’s lost that baby.’
“She never told me she had lost the baby, but I knew.”
Tyson also recently revealed to TNT Sports that the couple hadn’t spoken for three months as he prepares for the upcoming fight.
He revealed: “It’s been a long camp, been away from my wife and kids for three months.
“I’ve not spoken to Paris at all for three months, not one word.
“I’ve sacrificed a lot. It will be worth it (if I win), 100 per cent.”
Paris added: “People don’t see the sacrifices made.
“I’ve let him solely concentrate on this fight.
“It seems like he’s been gone forever, especially with no contact, but it’s what he needs.”
What is miscarriage and why do pregnancies fail?
MISCARRIAGE is generally the death of an unborn baby in the first 24 weeks – approximately six months – of pregnancy.
Miscarriages may not be spoken about a lot but they are very common. Baby loss charity Tommy’s estimates there are at least 250,000 per year in the UK and that one in every five pregnancies ends in miscarriage.
It may not be clear why a miscarriage happens but they are rarely caused by anything done by the mother or father. Usually the embryo has a random genetic defect that means it cannot develop properly.
Most women can go on to successfully have healthy babies in the future.
The NHS says most miscarriages cannot be prevented but avoiding smoking, alcohol and drugs while pregnant can reduce the risk.
Some of the other most common reasons for a pregnancy to fail in the first 24 weeks are ectopic pregnancy and molar pregnancy.
Ectopic pregnancy is where a fertilised egg implants somewhere outside of the womb, usually in a fallopian tube. It cannot survive and grow there so either dies naturally or must be terminated.
Molar pregnancy is rarer but happens when a fertilised egg and/or placenta does not develop properly at the start of a pregnancy. There is no single reason why it happens and cannot be prevented, though it may be more common in very young or old mothers.
A baby who dies after 24 weeks is considered a stillbirth.

The event was described as ‘bizarre’[/caption]
The shopper shared the details of their experience in a post to social media and began by addressing @Lowe’s directly.
“I placed a pickup order with Lowes.”
The customer then shared, “I didn’t have time to pick up the order within the first week.”
“But then, the order status changed to “pickup complete.”
Frustrated, the customer wrote, “I did NOT pick it up.”
The customer continued one of two posts by saying, “I contacted Lowe’s and customer service told me the store would contact me – I never got contacted.”
But that wasn’t the end.
The disgruntled customer started another post.
“Can someone else from the account holder just come and pick up the order in the locker box?”
The customer even offered an alternative.
“Or can the Lowe’s employee just take it?”
“The whole thing seems bizarre to me.”
It wasn’t long before the post caught the attention of Lowe’s online.
2 days agoUSA UpdateComments Off on I’m an eight-time NBA All-Star – now I’ve joined USMNT soccer icon in new venture as part of Buffalo Bills ownership
TWO NBA All-Star heroes and a former USMNT soccer icon have joined forces as part of a new business venture.
And they are now part of the Buffalo Bills ownership team.
Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady are part of the new Buffalo Bills ownership group[/caption]
His former team-mate McGrady, 45, was named an NBA All-Star seven times – plus was twice the NBA scoring champion.
Altidore, meanwhile, burst on to the scene with the New York Red Bulls before spells with Villarreal, Sunderland, Toronto and finally New England Revolution back in the MLS.
He also racked up 115 caps for the USMNT, scoring 42 goals and winning the Gold Cup in 2017.
Now, though, Altidore, 35, has swapped the Bulls for the Bills with the minority takeover.
Carter, McGrady and Altidore plus a group of private equity investors stumped up the cash to purchase a 20 per cent stake in the NFL franchise.
Altidore said: “It’s a dream come true, because I genuinely got to watch that team grow through good and bad.
“There’s a ton of Buffalo Bill fans that come to Toronto FC games, a ton that go to Raptors games.
“I think we’re going to have a lot of fun kind of tying it all into one.
“I think seeing Tracy, seeing Vince now, seeing myself, I think, I hope, that inspires other people watching and young kids to say, ‘Man, I can do it too.'”
Carter added: “This is what I’m excited about, helping the team and the organization any way I can, but actually the youth under us, who are aspiring to be owners and leaders of their community.”
And McGrady concluded: “At the end of the day, this is freaking cool, man.
“That you play 15 years in the NBA and have an opportunity to invest into an NFL franchise.
“It’s cool that we’re investing in Buffalo Bills, it’s cool investing in an NFL franchise, but this is inspiring to so many people that look like us because of the past history and what’s been said in media and all that stuff about diversity, inclusion and sports ownership.”
