Wolves 1 Man City 2: Match ends in major controversy as John Stones’ last-gasp winner STANDS despite on-field review

MANCHESTER CITY climbed up to the top of the Premier League table thanks to another dramatic late strike by John Stones.

Stones saved City’s blushes last month against 10-man Arsenal at the Etihad with an equaliser at the death to make it 2-2 and maintain their lead in the Premier League title race.

Man City looked set to drop points just a day after the Gunners sustained their first loss of the season at Bournemouth.

Wolves drew first blood after just seven minutes with Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The visitors hit back on 33 minutes with a stunning finish by Josko Gvardiol.

And just as it looked Pep Guardiola’s men were running out of ideas, Stones turned the game on its head in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Renee Zellweger and Ant Anstead started dating in 2021 and Ant has been sharing loved up pictures on his Instagram account.[/caption]

He said: “True story'” when asked about her love of cars and added: “Everybody knows, I met Renee on the car show. Pretty cool, right?.”

American actress Renee Zellweger, 55, is famed for her starring role in the Bridget Jones films and Ant Anstead, 45 has presented various motoring programmes and his latest Ant Anstead: Born Mechanic streams on discovery + on Thursday 24 October.

The pair met when Renee appeared on the British TV star’s show Celebrity IOU Joyride in April 2021 and the pair announced their romance publicly on Instagram that September. The couple have been loved up ever since and now live together in Orange County.

He said: “I live full time in America. I’ve been in America for eight years. America is my home. It just so happened that my summer was spent here because of this project. And obviously, you know, I have family here and commitments here and but, you know, America is my home. If I travel and I go on holiday, I come on holiday in England.”

Renee’s new film is out in 2025, but Ant has revealed that he hasn’t read the script,

He shared: “Oh gosh, I’ve been so busy.

“I haven’t been able to get across the plot but I do believe it’s closely related to the book.”

However, Ant admitted: “But I’ve not read the book.”

Ant has proudly been using his Instagram feed to write sweet posts about his girlfriend.

In one, back in the summer he gushed on a poster of her upcoming film Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.

“Oh man… she’s so beautiful…!”

He added: “That’s my Ren (lucky boy).”

Under another picture of the pair almost a year ago, cuddling up on a deckchair on the beach, he posted: “This lady 🥰 Pure. Class. Ren x”

To which fans started excitedly posting in approval.

One said: “She’d better marry you and have some beautiful kids congratulating you both.”

More recently the pair were also pictured with some of their kids from different partners before attending Goodwood and at the event.

Ant proudly describes on his Instagram profile he has ‘a beautiful blended family.’

Then there’s a photo sees them all glammed up for an awards ceremony, in one and in another, they are in the crowd celebrating with other A Listers.

While Renee doesn’t have a social media presence, Ant is very active on Instagram.

He is proud of is romance with the star, and documenting his love, reminds us of how Bridget used to chronicle her romance with Mr Darcy back in the nineties, but now its in the ‘insta’ age.

Ant’s new TV show is out on Thursday (24 October). “I am incredibly proud of this show! And its the first time in 11 shows and 26 TV shows later that I’ve opened the doors to my family and my private world.”

He told The Sun Online: “It came about because I bought a house, you know, the house was the nucleus of the show, you know, for my parents as they enter the final season their retirement as a chance to say thank you for everything that they’ve done for me and my brothers and my sister.

“The house is probably a five year renovation project, and it’s a huge amount of work. The rear end is condemned. It’s literally falling down. So the dream was crushed, this dream of, you know, changing the lives of my parents and saying thank you.

He explained that growing up, they never owned a home. His parents both worked as school cooks and they grew up in school accommodation. My mom collected Lilliput Lane houses and when I started to look around homes to get my parents at home and walked into this one straight away, I was like, Oh, my God, it’s like a life size Lilliput Lane. This is the house. We’re getting this house, and obviously, now I pay the price of that foolish, heart led endeavour.

“And ultimately, one thing I could do really well is build cars. So there was, luckily, a barn on the site, so it made sense that I started to flip some cars and make some profit and put into the house.

“And, you know, discovery, like, great. We’re gonna send a crew. And, I mean, it’s the most authentic TV show I think I’ve ever done, but they just come, tiny crew. Some of it’s recorded on my phone. They just come and press record and pretty chaotic.”

Ant is very much a family man and in other snaps he shows his family life, work projects and friends.

Former world No1 Mark Allen star slams World Snooker Tour for ‘poor coverage’ and ‘having their favourites’

MARK ALLEN has taken a swipe at the World Snooker Tour for giving him “poor coverage” during his time as world No1.

Allen, 38, topped the rankings in May and kept top spot until August when he was dethroned by Judd Trump.

Mark Allen has hit out at the World Snooker Tour for his treatment while world No1[/caption]

The Northern Irishman has now claimed that his three-month stint at the peak of the sport was “anti-climactic”, suggesting that the World Snooker Tour have “favourites”.

He told the BBC: “It was a bit anti-climactic. It wasn’t really enjoyable if I’m honest.

“I feel like I got very poor coverage from the governing body and I didn’t get a lot of coverage here [in Northern Ireland].

“Even turning up at events and I wasn’t on the main table all the time.

“Ultimately, if you keep winning matches and keep winning tournaments then that takes care of itself.

“It was a bit of a come down, really. I just feel like World Snooker have their favourites and that’s it.”

The World Snooker Tour have denied allegations that they prioritise certain players, clapping back at Allen in a statement of their own.

They said: “We feel that we covered Mark’s rise to world number one positively – at the start of the season we sent a crew to Antrim to interview him about this achievement.

“We don’t prioritise specific players, we give them all an equal opportunity to promote the sport and entertain fans.”

Allen is still keen to return to top spot, but admitted that his desire has dwindled somewhat since his treatment last time he achieved the goal.

He added: “I didn’t stay there long thanks to Judd – he has been winning everything lately.

“I want to keep enjoying my snooker, keep winning matches and hopefully I’ll get back there soon.

“I’m going to be honest and say it’s not as big a target as it was before I got there.

“I don’t feel like I got as much attention for being world number one as I thought I would.”

Patients could soon be FINED for missing NHS appointments as fury grows over £1bn wasted every year, Wes Streeting hints

PATIENTS could be fined for missing NHS appointments in the future, Wes Streeting has hinted.

The Health Secretary appeared to soften his previous blanket opposition to financial penalties as a means of raising cash.

Streeting leaves 10 Downing Street after attending a Cabinet Meeting last week[/caption]

Around eight million hospital appointments are missed every year and costs taxpayers £1billion in wasted time.

Grilled on the possibility of imposing fines, Mr Streeting told Times Radio: “At this stage it’s not something I’m looking at doing, but once we’ve got the system working effectively, if we still have this problem of missed appointments then I might be more open-minded.”

He added that he wants to improve the bookings system as a priority – so it is easier to cancel – before getting tough on patients.

Fining people has been considered for a while, with Rishi Sunak famously pledging a £10 penalty for missed appointments before dropping the pledge.

Mr Streeting has been dead against the idea in the past, warning it would be a “slippery slope” to wider NHS charges.

Yesterday he also denied his plan to offer weight-loss jabs to obese unemployed people was a “dystopian future”.

He said the drugs could be “game-changing” in getting people fit enough to go back to work.

The Cabinet Minister said: “They’re not the only solution, and I don’t want to create a dependency culture.

“I’m not interested in some dystopian future where I wander round involuntarily jabbing unemployed people who are overweight.  That is not the agenda.

“If we can throw the trends we’re seeing on obesity into reverse, that’s better for the health of the nation, and the nation’s finances, because we’ve got to shift from treating sickness to actively preventing it.

“But that’s not a substitute for good diet and nutrition and exercise.”

WES Streeting has told of his inner conflict at deciding whether or not to vote in favour of assisted dying.

The Health Secretary said he worries that a right to die could feel like “a duty to die” if the law is changed.

He said: “I have in my mind’s eye one of my grandmothers who died a very slow painful death, an inevitable death, from lung cancer.

“There are moments thinking back to that time through my 10-year-old eyes even then I would have wished for the pain to end sooner.

“The challenge is, I do not think palliative care, end of life care, in this country is good enough to give people a real choice.

“I worry about coercion and the risk that the right to die feels like a duty to die on the part of particularly older people.

“I am also worried about the slippery slope, and the Canadian experience is not a happy experience as far as I am concerned.

“I am having to weigh those considerations up very carefully.”

Proposals to change the law to legalise assisted dying will be debated and voted on next month.

If politicians back the plan, the law could change as early as next year.

Here is everything we know about Dan Azeez’s mother and her support of his boxing career.

Kike Azeez is a self-employed carer.

She is from Nigeria, and she and her husband decided to move to the UK in pursuit of a brighter future for their children.

Their goal was to provide them with greater opportunities and a chance to thrive.

She has six children, four sons and two daughters, and she raised them as a single mother in a council house in Lewisham, London.

Fighting Covid-19

In April 2020 she caught COVID-19.

Her condition rapidly got worse and she needed to be admitted to the University Hospital Lewisham in London, where she spent four weeks in intensive care.

During this time, her son boxer Dan Azeez was unable to visit her due to hospital restrictions.

They cared for me like I was their own mother.

Kike AzeezEastLondonLines

He said to EastLondonLines about the NHS staff helping his mother: “I cannot thank you all enough for saving my mother’s life.

“Before being admitted to hospital my mum was in a real bad way – she was struggling to breathe, could not speak or move.

“We all feared the worse, but even when times got tough, you never gave up on her.”

Dan also told Unknown Boxers about his mother’s Covid-19 illness: “They weren’t sure if she was going to make it and it didn’t look good.

“As the weeks went on she’s got better and has come out of the ICU, but is still under their care so it’s been tough.

“I actually thought I would lose my mum.

“I’ve never been in that predictament before, I’ve had friends that have lost their lives, but for it to be your mum.

“It’s very difficult, but thankfully she’s getting better.”

Supporting her son

For Dan Azeez, who held the British light-heavyweight champion title until October 19, 2024, his mother has been a guiding force in his life, offering unwavering support throughout his boxing career.

“She has been an important figure in my life, especially helping me build my boxing career.

“I attribute a lot of my success to her support – that is why I am saying thank you.”  Dan shared.

Kike always supported her son and encouraged him.

In a recent interview, he shared that his mother played a significant role in his career development by reminding him of his potential, especially during moments of self-doubt when he struggled with confidence.

Everyone thought I was living the dream as an actress… but I was secretly in a cult, on a sex schedule and lost millions

STARING at her drained bank accounts, the truth washed over Bethany Joy Lenz – she was in a cult.

The 43-year-old had fallen prey to a dark organisation in her early twenties, where she was ensnared and “abused” beneath the sway of a “domineering minister” for a whole decade.

She was ensnared by a “domineering minister” while appearing on American drama series, One Tree Hill[/caption]

They stole the wage she earned as an actress, physically abused her and even put her on a “sex schedule” to keep her husband happy.

Now, the mum-of-one (who shares a daughter with another member of the cult) has opened up about her horrifying ordeal.

In the early Noughties, Bethany was a vulnerable young woman “looking for somewhere to belong” while chasing stardom as an actress in Los Angeles, California.

The group, which was headed up by a “domineering master”, handed her a religious code to live by.

Members were not allowed to ask “illegal questions” which probed the decision of the men in charge or indicated doubt in what they claimed was “God’s path”.

Leaders of the high-demand group called themselves Bethany’s “chosen family” and gave her the illusion of being better than others, wrapped in a fragile sense of “superiority”.

But soon, the promise of her superior life started to unravel, and Bethany claims the cult leaders had stolen over £1.5 million from her wage as an actress on American drama series, One Tree Hill.

“When I was in the group, they took $2,000,000 from me,” she tells.

“It was absolute financial abuse… it was just a total mess.”

The mum-of-one now recognises that she was in a cult – and she was one of its biggest victims.

The revelations come as she is releasing a memoir called Dinner For Vampires, where she bravely delves into her scary experiences.

In the book’s official description, she said her life was governed by the “domineering minister” and his son, whom she married, for a decade before she finally escaped.

Bethany had always been religious and grew up as an Evangelical Christian.

She grew up “lonely” as an only child in Florida to young parents with a “tense” relationship who she says didn’t emotionally nurture her due to how busy they were.

Her parents divorced when she was 16-years-old, one year before she got her big break on the soap opera, Guiding Light.

What Are Cults?

Cults are social groups defined by their devotion to a specific set of beliefs, practices or leader.

They often form around religious, spiritual or ideological systems, and are characterized by intense loyalty and control mechanisms.

Cults are generally viewed as having manipulative or coercive structures, where the leader or leadership exerts significant influence over the members’ thoughts, behaviors and social interactions.

In her early twenties, she upped-sticks to the bright lights of Hollywood in hope of making it big as a film actress.

She began attending a weeknight evening Bible Class with a friend, something that felt “benign” as she had done it throughout her childhood.

Then, a sinister man and his family started attending.

Bethany vividly remembers meeting them for the first time and having a “check in her gut” that made her think: “I don’t like their faces.”

The Early Days

The man, who was a pastor without a church at the time, began taking charge of the sessions.

He would discuss God, pray and sing with other members.

After a year of “investing in the lives” of those around him, he rose to the role of an unofficial leader, quietly steering the direction of the group from a “benign” bible study class to a cult.

Bethany calls him a “domineering minister” – and has revealed how he preyed on the fragility of her family ties following her “lonely” childhood, subtly working over the years to encourage her to sever connections with both of her parents.

What made it so insidious is that it wasn’t like, ‘join us, put on this robe and let’s all live in the forest together’. There was still a lot of autonomy. I think that’s how [the leader] kept everybody locked in

Bethany Joy Lenz

Several years in, after both of her parents had expressed concern for Bethany’s controlling situation, the leaders of the demanding group explicitly told her to cut ties with both of them.

“There was a meeting when they actually explicitly just told me, like, ‘you really should just cut your dad out’,” she reveals on Call Her Daddy podcast.

“I didn’t talk to my dad for six years.

“It was awful.”

Falling Deeper

Leaders of the cult allowed its members to still have autonomy and work – something that Bethany describes as an “insidious” way of stopping them from questioning the organisation.

“What made it so insidious is that it wasn’t like, ‘join us, put on this robe and let’s all live in the forest together’,” she adds.

“There was still a lot of autonomy.

“I think that’s how [the leader] kept everybody locked in, because we were all really smart.

I felt mostly superior to other people… But I still felt this sense of self-loathing

Bethany Joy Lenz

“Like, this wasn’t a group of people who were not smart, everyone was ambitious and had careers.”

Bethany landed the role of Haley James Scott in One Tree Hill in 2003, but the “domineering minister” and his counsel urged her not to trust her fellow co-stars.

They also kept tabs on her while she was at work.

Rather than living together, members of the high-demand group were in constant communication with each other through phone calls, emails and texts.

“I felt mostly superior to other people,” Bethany recalls.

“Any cult, that’s the idea: we’ve got something special that you don’t have.

“But I still felt this sense of self-loathing.

“At the same time, because I had this self-loathing, I was jealous of other people on the show, too… of the freedom to be a mess, the freedom to explore life and ask questions.”

I was jealous of other people on the show, too… of the freedom to be a mess, the freedom to explore life and ask questions

Bethany Joy Lenz

The leaders – and her husband who was a fellow cult member – also encouraged her to turn down big movie roles that came up.

Bethany recognises this now as just another tactic the cult used to maintain control of her.

“The more that I worked, the less they would see me,” she tells.

“If I just stayed playing one character for 10 years and I never did anything else, then they know where I am all the time.”

Costly Marriage

In 2005, Bethany married another member of the cult, who also happened to be the cult leader’s son.

And they convinced her to merge her finances with her new husband, who she references as QB in her new book.

“I just did the dutiful Christian wife thing and merged my accounts,” she recalls.

“It didn’t occur to me that I was going to be taken advantage of.”

When I was in the group, they took $2,000,000 from me. It was absolute financial abuse… it was just a total mess

Bethany Joy Lenz

Speaking on the relationship, she adds: “We didn’t have a lot in common.

“There wasn’t a lot of intellectual stimulation…I mean, I kind of ran out of options.

“I couldn’t date a non-Christian. I couldn’t really date anybody outside of the group or certainly not anybody who lived anywhere outside of that area.

“So yeah, it just became this sort of arranged situation.”

She believes her fellow co-stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton, pictured, had suspicions she was in a cult[/caption]

Despite not being intellectually stimulated, Bethany was expected to surrender to her husband – and never question his decisions or know intimate details about his life.

She also felt distinctly “sad” after having sex with QB for the first time, despite saving herself for marriage.

“I thought if I save myself for marriage, then the promise is amazing sex and super deep intimacy and it’s just like the best thing ever,” she says.

“God created sex and it’s just going to be the best thing ever.

I was told: ‘Just do it. This is your duty. This is your job as a wife. If you do it enough, then eventually you will find a way to enjoy it’

Bethany Joy Lenz

“And then we have sex and it’s like, why do I feel so sad?”

Bethany didn’t have a sex drive due to her lack of connection with QB, so leaders of the cult forced her to go on a “schedule”.

She was told: “Just do it. This is your duty. This is your job as a wife. If you do it enough, then eventually you will find a way to enjoy it.”

She then developed PTSD from picking her husband up from the airport and knowing she’d have to “start a sex schedule for the next two weeks”.

She hopes the book will empower other women to spot the signs of control and abuse in a broad range of relationships[/caption]

Bethany began to realise something was awash with her situation after speaking to a therapist.

She had been candid with the shrink about her claims of her husband’s physical violence, which forced her to finally face the truth about her marriage.

It was abusive and controlling – and she was in a cult.

Bethany recalls: “My therapist, I remember probably two months after that was like, ‘are we ready to call it a cult yet?’

“I was very uncomfortable with it and I had to really sit with that for a while.

“Once she said that and all the pieces really started to lock into place, it became clear that it was really unhealthy.”

Breaking Free

The mum-of-one secured a home of her own and began to tackle life as a single mum, recovering from the abuse she had experienced.

She was embroiled in savage custody battles and spent $350,000 (£270,000) on legal fees to finalise her divorce.

But the court refused to acknowledge the triolgy of abuse she’d suffered.

Bethany says: “I began to realize how broken the family court system is in this country.

Please don’t live in shame. Don’t let it keep you closed off and shut down and not talk about things

Bethany Joy Lenz

“The saying is: no bruise, no case.

“If you don’t have a physical altercation with someone, they don’t consider it abuse in the court because how do you legislate or even qualify mental abuse, emotional abuse, spiritual abuse?

“That’s the hardest one too because the courts are like, ‘I don’t want to touch anything religious’. “

Bethany is now urging other victims of abuse, whether they experienced it in a cult or not, to let go of their feelings of shame.

“Please don’t live in shame,” she urges.

“Don’t let it keep you closed off and shut down and not talk about things.

“You have to let it out… You have to let it out of your body.

“This is the only way to actually find hope and move forward.”

Luke Littler’s rival Damon Heta grimaces in disbelief as ‘unplayable’ teen smashes darts history books to beat him

LUKE LITTLER made it back-to-back record-breaking performances in the Czech Darts Open.

The “unplayable” teen sensation left Damon Heta grimacing in disbelief as he smashed in a 116.51 average to win 6-3 in Prague.

Heta averaged a fine 105.6 but Littler eclipsed that with 116.51[/caption]

That broke The Nuke‘s own record set less than 24 hours earlier of 110.43 in the victory over Nathan Aspinall.

It was the fifth-highest average in Euro Tour history, earning the 17-year-old a quarter-final against Michael van Gerwen on Sunday night.

Heta himself averaged an excellent 105.6 and Littler said: “Damo played very well.

“But I’ve been practising a lot this morning with the darts.

“It was a good decision to change them. Hopefully I can go all the way tonight. I think I’m sticking with these ones now.

“When I’m playing that well I know my average is up in the hundreds. I had a glance up at the screen, it was 114 at one point.

“But that’s when Damo got the next two legs. I just said to myself in the last leg just focus and I went out in 10.

“He was coming back then. But I said to myself just get this leg and get it over and done with. Went six into the nine again and hit tops.”

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

It was so impressive that PDC Euro presenter Philip Brzezinski called it a “disgusting” display.

Meanwhile, commentator Dan Dawson rated it as “one of the best performances in Euro Tour history”.

Littler rattled off a 180 in each of the opening five legs, plus a 171 and a 122 finish to lead 4-1.

Heta, to his credit, kept battling and remarkably pulled it back to 5-3.

But Littler continued his barrage of maximums, making it seven in nine legs, before wrapping it up with tops to complete another historic display.

Heta responded by leaning over with a dazed look of sheer incredulity.

And fans were as amazed as the Australian by his conqueror’s display.

One viewer posted: “Heta v Littler is fast becoming one of my favourite fixtures to watch… astonishing stuff. Heta did very little wrong, Littler just unplayable there.”

Inside Littler's massive rise

LUKE LITTLER has taken the darts world by storm since exploding onto the scene at the PDC World Championship at the beginning of the year.

The Nuke reached the final on his Ally Pally debut at just 16 years of age – smashing records along the way.

He has then gone on to win a host of PDC events and the Premier League title – which he claimed at the O2 Arena by beating world champion Luke Humphries in May.

He also finished his first season in the World Series as the No1 ranked player.

He has joined Jude Bellingham on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list.

And the teenage titan even had to snub an invite from the WWE.

The Sun exclusively revealed that Littler is plotting to create a fitness empire.

He is also cashing in away from the Oche thanks to an Instagram side hustle.

And he’s even the face of a brand new cereal.

But he is newly single after splitting from girlfriend Eloise Milburn following a 10-month relationship.

Check out all of our latest Luke Littler stories.
