How Archaeologists hunting Noah’s Ark made incredible discovery at boat-shaped mound dating back to biblical times

IN the remote mountains of eastern Turkey, a team of archaeologists and scientists made a discovery that could reignite one of the world’s oldest mysteries: the search for Noah’s Ark.

After decades of speculation, the so-called Durupinar formation — a boat-shaped mound lying just two miles from the TurkeyIran border — has once again captured the world’s attention.

The story began with a Kurdish farmer’s curious find in 1948, but it wasn’t until the summer of 2021 that an international team of experts set out to scientifically analyse this intriguing geological formation.

Working under the banner of the “Mount Ararat and Noah’s Ark Research Team,” scientists from universities in Turkey and the United States converged on the site with state-of-the-art technology and a singular mission: to determine whether the formation could hold traces of human activity dating back to biblical times.

Digging for truth

The team approached the project with cautious optimism.

While the Durupinar formation had been known for decades — first brought to wider attention in the 1950s by Turkish Army Captain Ilhan Durupinar — scientific consensus on its origins remained elusive.

Was it merely a natural formation, or could it truly be the petrified remains of the legendary Ark?

In order to answer this, the researchers began collecting nearly 30 samples of soil and rock from the site, each carefully chosen to help unlock the geological secrets of the mound.

Their analysis, conducted at Istanbul Technical University, sought to determine the age and composition of the formation, with a specific focus on identifying signs of ancient human activity or evidence that the site had once been submerged underwater.

The results, when they came, were astonishing.

The samples were dated between 3500 and 5000 years old — perfectly matching the biblical timeline of Noah’s flood.

Even more intriguingly, the team uncovered the presence of clay-like substances and marine materials within the soil.

These findings fuelled the theory that the Durupinar formation might indeed have been part of a marine environment thousands of years ago, strengthening the hypothesis that this could be where Noah’s Ark came to rest.

Unveiling the mystery

It’s hard to ignore the striking shape of the Durupinar formation. From the ground, the site appears as an enormous, 538-foot-long mound, tapering to a point much like the bow of a ship.

For decades, this feature alone has drawn adventurers, scientists, and Ark enthusiasts to the region, hoping that this natural wonder could be the key to unlocking the truth behind one of the Bible’s most enduring stories.

The physical characteristics of the site align closely with the biblical description of the Ark: “A length of three hundred cubits, a width of fifty cubits, and a height of thirty cubits.”

For some, these dimensions are too close to be mere coincidence.

But the significance of this discovery goes beyond its dimensions.

As Professor Dr. Faruk Kaya, Vice Rector of Agri Ibrahim Cecen University, noted: “According to the initial results, it’s believed there were human activities in this region since the Chalcolithic period,” which spans from 5500 to 3000 BC.

This period, marked by the transition from stone to metal tools, places the site firmly within the timeline of ancient civilisations.

Such evidence strengthens the possibility that humans may have used this region during or after a catastrophic flood event.

Noah’s Ark global significance

For those involved in the research, the importance of this discovery is not limited to its religious implications.

While Noah’s Ark is a key element in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, the story also speaks to larger human questions about survival, faith, and the fragility of life in the face of natural disasters.

The team’s findings, particularly the marine materials embedded in the formation’s soil, suggest that the area may have been submerged in a vast body of water at some point.

Could this be evidence of the Great Flood?

While the theory remains highly speculative, the notion that ancient humans witnessed and survived such a cataclysm has captivated scholars and theologians alike for centuries.

For Professor Kaya and his colleagues, the potential to link these scientific findings with one of history’s most famous legends is both exhilarating and daunting.

Speaking at the recent 7th International Symposium on Mount Ararat and Noah’s Ark, Kaya emphasised the significance of their work.

“An essential outcome of the symposium is the decision to conduct more research in Cudi and Ararat, known as the Mesopotamian region. Both are referenced in the Holy Quran and the Bible,” he said.

A history of searching for the Ark

This is not the first time scientists have believed they were close to finding Noah’s Ark.

The Durupinar formation itself was first noted in the early 20th century, though its discovery has long been clouded by competing theories and debates over its origins.

The search for the Ark stretches back to antiquity, with religious pilgrims and explorers alike combing the slopes of Mount Ararat for traces of the fabled vessel.

While some dismissed the formation as a natural phenomenon, others held firm to the belief that the site contained the remains of the Ark, petrified and buried by time.

Modern technology has brought a new level of rigour to these efforts.

From satellite imaging to advanced geological sampling, the tools available to today’s researchers offer unprecedented opportunities to test ancient sites for signs of human activity.

Still, many caution that scientific proof of the Ark’s existence may remain elusive, if not impossible to confirm.

What is the story of Noah's Ark?

NOAH’S Ark is a biblical story found in the Book of Genesis, chapters 6 to 9.

It describes how Noah, a righteous man, was instructed by God to build a large ark (a type of boat) to save himself, his family, and pairs of every animal species from a catastrophic flood.

According to the story, God decided to flood the Earth because of humanity’s widespread wickedness, but He chose to spare Noah because of his righteousness.

Noah built the ark as instructed, gathered animals and his family, and after the floodwaters receded, they repopulated the Earth.

The story is a key part of the Abrahamic religious traditions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) and is often interpreted as a message of faith, obedience, and God’s promise to never destroy the Earth with a flood again, symbolised by the rainbow.

Welbeck opened the scoring as the Seagulls targeted back-to-back league wins.

But his day was cut short after an incident in the 77th minute.

The former Arsenal star fell to the floor following an innocuous coming together with Toon centre-back Fabian Schar.

He appeared to tweak something in his back, hitting the deck before calling for medical staff.

Welbeck required oxygen as he was stretchered from the field, with Jan Paul van Hecke replacing him.

The 33-year-old has been enjoying a stunning start to the new campaign.

He has already netted as many goals in the league this season as he managed in the entire of last term.

After his strike on Saturday, Welbeck now has five goals – as many as he managed in 29 league games in 2023/24.

Remembering Ellen Jane Hover: Rodney Alcala victim who was Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr’s goddaughter

ELLEN Jane Hover was murdered by Rodney Alcala in July 1977, just two years before his crime spree was brought to an end.

Rodney’s crime spree was dramatized in Netflix’s Woman of the Hour, which is set a year after Ellen’s murder when he earned the name: The Dating Game Killer.

A tragic murder

Ellen was the daughter of nightclub owner Herman Hover and was living in New York City when she crossed paths with Rodney Alcala.

She was just 23-years-old when she disappeared without a trace on July 15, 1977.

According to her cousin and future step-sister, Sheila Wellen, Ellen’s bones were found months later at the old Rockefeller estate in Westchester County.

Her disappearance was a complete mystery at first but NYPD cold case investigators now believe that she was murdered by Rodney during his first week of being back in NYC in 1977.

Sheila opened up to Variety about how she was told by Ellen’s friends that her cousin was being pressured into meeting a photographer for lunch.

When she did go for lunch with the photographer, she never returned.

A datebook belonging to Ellen revealed that she met with a man named “John Berger”, which was the alias used by Rodney when he murdered Cornelia Crilley.

Until he murdered Ellen, Rodney had been serving time in prison for his attack on an 8-year-old girl named Tali Shapiro and another unnamed 13-year-old girl.

Ellen was mourned by her godfathers Dean Martin, known for his hit eponymous show, and Sammy Davis Jr, known for his huge multi-media career.

Rodney AKA The Dating Game Killer

Rodney’s crime spree continued after he murdered Ellen in 1977.

He appeared on The Dating Game in 1978, where he tried to charm a teacher named Cheryl Bradshaw into picking him as her match.

Cheryl eventually did choose Rodney, but decided not to go on the date because of his sinister sense of humour, which included references to being “ready” for nighttime.

Eventually, Rodney was brought to justice after murdering a 12-year-old girl named Robin Samsoe.

The police circulated a sketch of the suspect which was recognised as Rodney by his old parole officer, who had been assigned to him after his attack on Tali.

This launched a search for Rodney, who was finally arrested in 1979 and sentenced to death in 1980.

However, the sentence was overturned in 1984 and he spent the rest of his life in prison, before dying in 2021.

Body of terror boss Sinwar could become ‘bargaining chip’ in new hostage deal as Israel issues chilling warning to Hamas

THE body of terror kingpin Yahya Sinwar could be used as a “bargaining chip” to bring back remaining Israeli hostages, military bosses have said.

Dubbed “Gaza’s Bin Laden”, Sinwar – who orchestrated the horrific massacre of some 1,200 people on October 7 – was swiftly killed by the Israel Defence Forces inside Gaza.

Sinwar is said to have been taken out in a battle with Israeli soldiers while they were carrying out a routine check inside Rafah, southern Gaza, on Wednesday (October 17).

The terror boss was at the very top of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) kill list for over a year.

Israeli troops struck a building with an airstrike on Wednesday killing three Hamas terrorists.

The building collapsed – and as troops picked through the rubble, they came across a corpse that reportedly “looked very much like” Sinwar.

Extensive DNA and dental tests later confirmed his identity.

His body is currently being held at a secret location by the Israeli forces.

Israeli officials have now hinted towards a potential hostage deal with what remains of Hamas’ last governing officials in exchange for Sinwar’s mortal remains, sources have told CNN.

An Israeli diplomatic source said: “If Hamas wants to swap his remains for Israelis, dead or alive, then fine … Otherwise, handing him over is not going to happen.”

A second source said that Hamas supporters would be desperate to get Sinwar’s body back, who would then turn his grave into a shrine to inspire future terrorists.

Israeli Prime Minister said this week he would allow Hamas terrorists to “get out” of Gaza and “live” if they returned all the remaining hostages.

However, fears are that a hostage deal will not take place until Hamas chooses its next leader.

Muhammad Sinwar, the slain terror chief’s brother, is being seen as the next possible successor to take over the terror outfit.

He became the de facto second-in-command of Hamas’ leadership in Gaza following the deaths of top Hamas military commanders, such as Mohammed Deif and Marwan Issa.

Mohammed became a trusted confidant of Yahya, being one of the few people who knew where the Hamas boss was hiding during the war.

Israeli officials warned that Muhammad is as much of a hardliner as his brother, and could pose as a major obstacle in a potential hostage deal – especially after Israel killed his brother.

Grisha Yakubovich, a former senior Israeli military official and expert on Palestinian affairs, explained how brother Mohammed Sinwar’s rise to power poses a significant danger.

He told The Sun: “Mohammed Sinwar is just as radical, if not more, than Yahya Sinwar.

“If he takes over the leadership of Hamas, the situation could become significantly worse.”

Mohammed, though operating largely behind the scenes, is said to have earned a reputation for being ruthless and uncompromising.

According to Yakubovich, his leadership style could push the group into even more violent confrontations with Israel.

“He’s in the top of the military wing,” Yakubovich pointed out, referring to Mohammed’s key role in Hamas’ military operations.

“He’s one of the strongest players. If Yahya is killed, Mohammed could rise quickly.”

Unlike Yahya, who has made headlines for his terror activities over the years, 49-year-old Mohammed operates more in the shadows, but his influence is undeniable, the expert said.

DIED LIKE A DOG

Sinwar was taken out by a trainee squad of Israeli commandos after being left as the cowering final survivor of a gunfight.

Sinwar had his last humiliating moments sitting slumped over in an armchair in a bombed-out building in the Strip as he feebly tried to fight off an Israeli drone with a stick.

An autopsy revealed that Sinwar was likely wiped out by a long-range gunshot to the head – executed with sniper-like precision.

His corpse was also riddled with shrapnel fragments after the house he was in was blasted by a tank.

He was discovered by the troops armed with a flak jacket, 40,000 shekels ($10,731.63), and a firearm.

“He tried to escape and our forces eliminated him,” Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said during a televised briefing.

Graphic images shared online on Thursday appeared to show his dead body in the ruins of the struck building in Rafah, with a horrific head wound.

The pictured body appeared to have the same mole as Sinwar next to his left eye as well as similar earlobes and teeth.

Soldiers involved in the strike reportedly did not realise who they took out until they saw his corpse.

His death was later confirmed by foreign minister Israel Katz who said: “Mass murderer Yahya Sinwar, who was responsible for the massacre and atrocities of 7 October, was killed today by IDF soldiers.”

Katz dubbed Sinwar’s death a “great military and moral achievement for Israel”.

The army later released footage of Sinwar’s final moments, hunched over and wounded inside a bombed building in Gaza.

Netanyahu and top army officials have repeatedly vowed to take out Sinwar since October 7 last year.

The Hamas terror attack on Israeli soil killed over 1,200 people and saw some 250 more kidnapped into Gaza.

It sparked a horrific war in which more than 42,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli airstrikes – according to the UN and other international human rights groups.

Israel recently launched a ground operation in Lebanon too, where Hamas ally Hezbollah is based, with Lebanese officials reporting the number of people killed as more than 2,300.

Inside the twisted life of Yahya Sinwar

By Nick Parker, Foreign Editor

HIS life was saved twice by Israel – but the monster dubbed “The Hamas Bin Laden” repaid his sworn enemy by masterminding the October 7 horror.

Yahya Sinwar, 61, spent 22 years in an Israeli prison for terrorist murder and kidnap plots and spent every second honing his burning hatred for his captors.

His astonishing rise to the top of the Hamas terror tree came despite being sentenced to four life sentences in 1989 for planning the abduction and killing of two Israeli soldiers and the murder of four Palestinians he suspected of working with Israel.

The bearded beast’s life was first saved when he was cured of cancer by an operation in a prison.

Then in 2011 he was freed, among 1,026 others, in a prisoner exchange for a single Israeli soldier in a deal that has been damned by his thousands of victims ever since.

Sinwar taught himself Hebrew and became fluent during his multiple stints as a caged man.

He began reading and studying every Israeli newspaper to probe the weak spots in his enemy’s armour.

The terror master’s deep knowledge of what makes Israelis tick led him to realise the power of the hostage-taking tactic now traumatising the strife-torn Jewish nation.

Yet despite his blood lust and bravado, the Hamas commander “cried like a baby” when he learned he had cancer, his jailer Lieutenant Betty Lahat has revealed.
