Walmart quietly changes Thanksgiving day meal – and confirms in small print it no longer serves 10 people for $7

WALMART has introduced its Thanksgiving day meal offering for this year, and it no longer serves a family of 10.

The all-in-one package deal now serves only eight guests but also offers a lower price point.

The retail giant confirmed shoppers could get their hands on the Thanksgiving offering starting October 14 in a press release.

It also emphasized that the meal would cost less than last year to keep it “inflation-free” and help customers save money during the holidays.

Additionally, the meal can be bought to gift to family or loved ones nationwide or to the Salvation Army.

For $53.04 ($6.63 per person in a group of eight), customers can buy the package on Walmart’s website or in-store.

It comes with over 29 items and ingredients, including 10 to 16-pound Whole Frozen Turkey.

There’s also enough for popular desserts and side dishes, including pumpkin pie and sweet potato casserole.

Fast pickup and delivery options are also available, including Early Morning delivery, which starts at 6:00 am, and Express Delivery, which brings items to Walmart shoppers’ doors in around 30 minutes.

John Laney, executive vice president of food at Walmart, emphasized the retailer’s mission to provide customers with an affordable holiday meal this year.

COMMUNITY SAVINGS

“Some of the holiday’s most special moments take place around the dinner table,” Laney noted in the release.

“At Walmart, we are committed to offering customers even deeper savings on top of our Every Day Low Prices for all their mealtime needs.”

“And with more opportunities to gift a meal and give back to those in need, we’re helping customers spread holiday cheer to their loved ones and their local communities,” he added.

Walmart’s Thanksgiving meal also comes as competitors like Aldi offer their similar all-in-one packages.

Aldi also noted that this year was its “lowest-priced” deal in half a decade, per a press release.

It wanted to offer guests a “welcome relief” from inflation and high grocery costs.

How to cut the cost of your grocery shop

BELOW are some tips on how to reduce the amount you spend on groceries.

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – You are far more likely to buy  more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
  • Use social media – Follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards

COMPETING VALUE

“America’s value leader helps shoppers save more and feast more this holiday season with the return of pre-inflation prices,” the release read.

“The meal delivers on the traditional, crowd-pleasing favorites that guests crave without the sales, coupons, minimum purchase requirements, loyalty cards, and other hoops required to save at traditional grocers.”

Aldi’s Thanksgiving meal feeds 10 for $47, less than $4.70 per person.

It comes with a Butterball turkey, stuffing, spices, gravy, rolls, mac & cheese.

There are also ingredients to make cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, and pumpkin pie.

Deciding between the Walmart or Aldi Thanksgiving meal will likely be determined by shoppers’ budgets, their number of guests, and other personal preferences.

Yahya Sinwar’s death is opportunity to ease suffering… but a lot will depend upon who Hamas selects as his successor

IN Gaza the people lived not just in fear of Israeli missiles — but of the Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar.

The terrorist leader, 61, was known as the Butcher of Khan Younis for his murderous regime.

His death is an opportunity to ease the suffering in his homeland.

The question is whether either Hamas or Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu will take it.

There is no doubt the discovery of Sinwar’s body is a blow to Hamas.

The US, the UK and Israel’s other allies will see it as an opportunity to bring about a ceasefire.

But I am not convinced that will happen because since the October 7 massacre many Israelis have lost all hope of living peacefully alongside Palestinians.

A lot will depend upon who Hamas selects as Sinwar’s successor.

Khaled Mashal, who lived in Qatar and has been part of the senior team, is more of a pragmatist than the dead leader’s brother Mohammed Ibrahim Sinwar, who could also take charge.

Let’s hope they are a better judge of their allies than Sinwar.

His intention was to start a war on all fronts, by bringing Hezbollah in Lebanon and Iran into the fray.

It was a huge miscalculation because neither wanted to invade Israel.

That deadly lack of judgment will be his horrific legacy.

Urgent ‘avoid’ alert on 66 ‘contaminated’ dips, sandwiches and wraps that could pose ‘lethal threat’

AN urgent “avoid” alert has been issued for 66 “contaminated” dips sandwiches and wraps which could pose a lethal threat.

Last month, the food watchdog recalled dozens of foods and condiments they had reason to believe might be with peanuts not listed on the label.

The FSA have recalled 66 products so far[/caption]

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is still advising people with a peanut allergy to avoid consuming foods that may contain mustard, because they could be contaminated with peanuts.

Mustard ingredients – including mustard powder or flour – can be found in dips, sauces, salads and pre-packed sandwiches, the FSA said.

The food agency said they have recalled 66 products as they continue to investigate.

Some of the products being recalled, or removed from sale, because they may contain peanuts include Dominos dips, SPAR sandwich fillers and salads, and Harvester BBQ sauce.

Multiple spices that contain mustard have also been recalled as they may have undeclared peanuts.

The FSA and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) have traced the contaminated mustard ingredients to three suppliers in India.

These producers have supplied three spice companies in the UK; FGS Ingredients Ltd and two further companies, which have subsequently distributed the ingredients to a range of manufacturing, hospitality and retail businesses.

Food business, FGS Ingredients Limited, have undertaken a precautionary withdrawal and recall of all products containing mustard.

The company imports mustard to manufacture spice products including curry powders, seasonings and spice blends from India.

These spices and blends are also used in products such as ready meals and snacks and a wide range of recalls are expected to be issued in the coming days.

A list of FSG products affected has been released by the FSA and the food regulation company say that not all mustard imports from India have been contaminated.

Parents of children with a peanut allergy should check the labels of food they are buying and ask restaurants and take-away outlets about foods that might contain mustard, the agency says.

Because of how serious allergic reactions to peanuts can be, the FSA says it is taking a precautionary approach, so that people with allergies can keep themselves safe.

Rebecca Sudworth, director of food policy at the FSA, said: “This investigation is complex and the FSA and FSS are working with relevant businesses, local authorities, and agencies to put all necessary measures in place to protect consumers.

“For now, it remains very important that anyone with a peanut allergy avoids consuming products containing mustard as an ingredient until we are satisfied industry has identified and recalled all the specific affected products.

“Parents and carers of children who have a peanut allergy should take care to check the labels of food they buy and, if eating out, or getting a takeaway, ask the restaurant or cafe about foods that might contain mustard.

“While we understand that this advice may currently limit many people’s food choices, our priority must be to ensure consumer safety.

“If you or a family member has had an allergic reaction that could be linked to this investigation, please report it to the food business who supplied the affected product and to the local authority where the product was purchased.

“Guidance is available for how to report a food problem to a local authority.

“We will update consumers as soon as more information becomes available.

“We strongly encourage individuals with allergies to sign up for our allergy alerts to stay informed about future recalls.”

The signs of an allergic reaction and anaphylaxis + what to do

SYMPTOMS of an allergy usually occur within minutes of contact with with the offending food or trigger, but they can also come on up to one hour later.

Most allergic reactions are mild but they can also be moderate or severe.

Anaphylaxis is the most severe form of allergic reaction which can be life threatening.

In some cases, anaphylaxis symptoms lead to collapse and unconsciousness and, on rare occasions, can be fatal so it’s important to know how to recognise them and act quickly.

Mild to moderate symptoms include:

  • Itchy mouth, tongue and throat
  • Swelling of lips, around the eyes or face
  • Red raised itchy rash (often called nettle rash, hives or urticaria)
  • Vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea
  • Runny nose and sneezing

Severe symptoms of anaphylaxis include:

  • Swelling of your throat and tongue
  • Difficulty breathing or breathing very fast
  • Difficulty swallowing, tightness in your throat or a hoarse voice
  • Wheezing, coughing or noisy breathing
  • Feeling tired or confused
  • Feeling faint, dizzy or fainting
  • Skin that feels cold to the touch
  • Blue, grey or pale skin, lips or tongue – if you have brown or black skin, this may be easier to see on the palms of your hands or soles of your feet

Anaphylaxis and its symptoms should be treated as a medical emergency.

Follow these steps if you think you or someone you’re with is having an anaphylactic reaction:

  1. Use an adrenaline auto-injector (such as an EpiPen) if you have one  instructions are included on the side of the injector.
  2. Call 999 for an ambulance and say that you think you’re having an anaphylactic reaction.
  3. Lie down – you can raise your legs, and if you’re struggling to breathe, raise your shoulders or sit up slowly (if you’re pregnant, lie on your left side).
  4. If you have been stung by an insect, try to remove the sting if it’s still in the skin.
  5. If your symptoms have not improved after 5 minutes, use a second adrenaline auto-injector.

Do not stand or walk at any time, even if you feel better.

Sources: Allergy UK, NHS

According to the agency, if mustard is present in a food, it should be labelled in bold on the packet because it is an allergen itself.

If there is a risk that mustard could be unintentionally present in food, there will be a “may contain” label for mustard.

Peanut allergies are particularly common, affecting about one in 50 children in the UK, increasing in recent decades, according to Allergy UK.

Allergies usually develops in early childhood but, occasionally, can appear in later life.

Peanut allergies tend to be persistent and only approximately one in five children outgrow their allergy, usually by the age of 10.

If you think you or your child may be allergic to peanuts, see your GP who can refer you to a specialist allergy clinic.

It’s important to get a referral even if the symptoms were mild because it can be hard to tell if future allergic reactions could be more serious.

Dominos previously urged those with a peanut allergy to dispose of the dips mentioned on the recall alert and avoid consuming them.

Swift announced on Instagram that she will be back to perform in the final leg of her Eras Tour.

She appeared in a video and was seen inside the Hard Rock Stadium where the concert will take place.

Swift donned a mustard yellow Ralph Lauren sweatshirt along with jeans.

The sweatshirt was nearly identical to a Nike crewneck Travis Kelce wore during an October 16 episode of his New Heights podcast alongside his NFL legend brother Jason Kelce.

The 14-time Grammy winner also carried her cat, Olivia Benson, during the sequence.

Still, social media users spotted the similar detail between Swift’s outfit and Kelce’s attire on Wednesday.

“It’s interesting they both came out in the yellow this week,” one commented.

“Pause the universe, we got a plot twist,” a second added.

“She’s just a girl stealing her boyfriends sweatshirt,” a third wrote.

Swift has been performing the Eras Tour for the last year across the world.

The music icon performed in Japan in February and quickly jetted to Las Vegas to watch her boyfriend Kelce play in the Super Bowl.

The Kansas City Chiefs star has returned the favor and has appeared at numerous concerts, including a run at London’s Wembley Stadium during the summer.

Swift appeared at 13 Chiefs games last year after beginning her relationship with Kelce last summer.

She has been to three Chiefs games this season.

Both wore matching black outfits.

Swift began a three-night Eras Tour run in Miami on Friday before taking off to New Orleans, Louisiana, and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Kelce will prepare for his Week 7 game against the home team San Francisco 49ers after enjoying a bye week.
