MLB history during Mets-Dodgers over record that has stood for 46 years

MLB fans witnessed an eye-opening record during the NLCS Game 4 between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers saw one of their star players tying a 46-year record during the team’s 10-2 win over the Mets on Thursday night at Citi Field in Flushing, New York.

Dodgers infielder Max Muncy set an MLB postseason record when he reached base for the 12th consecutive plate appearance.

He broke the previous record of 10 with a fifth-inning walk and then achieved his mark of 12 thanks to a seventh-inning single.

Muncy then struck out in the eighth inning.

The two-time All-Star Muncy tied MLB legend Reggie Jackson’s achievement.

The Hall of Famer reached on-base 12 straight times over two postseasons in 1977 and 1978.

As a member of the New York Yankees, Jackson hit three homers in Game 6 of the 1977 World Series.

“It’s one of those things where I feel like I’m staying within myself and not trying to do anything too extraordinary,” Muncy said, per ESPN.

“It’s allowed me to see the ball better and slow things down.”

Muncy got on base four times on Thursday.

He has a .296 batting average along with an outstanding .486 on-base percentage this postseason.

An everyday player for the Dodgers since 2018, Muncy’s home run in Game 3 was the 13th of his playoff career.

He sat out 80 games in the regular season due to an oblique strain.

Muncy wasn’t the only dominant Dodgers performer in Game 4 as Mookie Betts went 4-for-6 with a home run and four RBIs and Shohei Ohtani hit a leadoff home run and walked three times.

The Dodgers have a 3-1 series lead over the Mets and are one win away from advancing to the World Series.

Each of the Dodgers’ wins has come by at least eight runs.

For Game 5, the Dodgers will trot out starting pitcher Jack Flaherty to the mound.

The Mets, meanwhile, will hand the ball to left-hander David Peterson.

Flaherty threw seven scoreless innings in the team’s Game 1 victory in Los Angeles.

Game 5 will take place on Friday at 5:08 pm Eastern on FS1.

Rugby to have two DIFFERENT red cards for Autumn internationals as rule never seen in sport before is introduced

RUGBY is set to introduce a second red card as part of a never-before-seen rule.

The new card will be trialled in the 2024 Autumn National Series.

There will be a big difference between the new red card and the pre-existing one.

The referee will still be able to dish out red cards that will remove players for the rest of the game and leave a team a man down.

However, the new red will give them the option to send a player off for 20 minutes.

Once the time period is over, the offending team can send on a replacement player.

The permanent red card would be used for foul play deemed to be “deliberate and dangerous”.

But with “technical offices” then the 20 minute red card can be used.

World Rugby are believed to be planning a meeting next month in which the new card will be discussed.

Sky Sports have claimed that the governing body could make it the only red card “available to referees”.

The Irish Rugby Football Union and the French Rugby Federation have both come out against the permanent usuage of the new card.

However, it is said that they are happy for it to be used in the Autumn Nations Series.

An IRFU statement read: “The IRFU does not support the permanent adoption of a 20-minute red card.

“Player welfare and safety are paramount to the core values of the game, and the option of a permanent red card for deliberate and intentional acts of foul play supports those values and protects the integrity of the game.

“The IRFU welcomes the variation to World Rugby‘s closed law trial, which will be adopted in the upcoming Autumn Nations Series.”

The FRF claimed that the permanent inclusion of the 20-minute red card would be “unacceptable and backwards”.

Chief of rugby at Six Nations Rugby Julie Paterson, however, defended the trial.

She said: “No trial or subsequent change is considered without utter confidence that player safety and welfare is front and centre.

“First and foremost, we need to look after the players and their interests, and the trials we have opted to use this November deliver on this commitment.”

Watch heart-stopping moment kids left dangling upside down for 15mins as ride malfunctions in front of horrified parents

THIS is the terrifying moment kids were left dangling in the air upside down for 15 minutes as a carnival ride malfunctioned and parents watched on in horror.

Panicked mom Ally Metzger was at the Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock with her two kids, aged 8 and 11, when the shock incident took place.

Ride attendants got them down safely by manually pushing their seats[/caption]

Footage that Ally shared to Facebook shows the kids stuck aboard the 16-seater rotating X-Drive ride after it suddenly halted to a stop.

Her children are seen trapped at the very top of the ride while amusement park staff tirelessly push the lower seats up manually to get it spinning.

They effectively propel the ride and it continues to function as usual, no longer leaving Ally’s kids stranded several feet off the ground mid-air.

In her Facebook clip she said: “They’re trying to get my kids down, they’ve been stuck upside down for 15 minutes at least.”

She told local broadcaster KATV: “There’s a bunch of people trying to get the ride to spin, and they would get it almost halfway down.

“Then it would go right back up to the very top, with my kids still upside down. So, I’m panicking. My partner’s panicking.”

Her 11-year-old daughter said she doesn’t remember much from her frightening time in air.

“She told me when she came home that she only remembered crying, and then, like, just got dizzy.

“Her legs were hurting, I guess because the circulation was out.”

And it wasn’t just Ally’s kids that were stranded up there – two other kids were also caught up in the ride’s malfunction but it’s not clear if they were injured.

A furious Ally told Facebook that she demanded a refund and filled out a complaints form.

She was not happy with one ride attendant who allegedly told her to “calm down” as it had “only been four and a half minutes”.

Ally also claimed the employee told her and her partner she was “making it worse” by panicking.

But the mom praised one member of staff for providing her with a refund and “making sure my babies were okay”.

She said her family’s weekend plans were disrupted following the incident.

Scooter Korek, Vice President of North American Midway Entertainment Services, blames a technical fault for the incident.

He said: “The right computer received a fault. What it does is when it finds something that it doesn’t like, it shuts it down.

“So, the ride was in the air, not in its landing position, for about 10-12 minutes.”

Scooter said that when the ride malfunctioned on Saturday, staff evacuated all riders in line with safety guidance.

Scooter, whose company is responsible for managing the ride at the Arkansas State Fair, reassured the public: “Any of my family members can go on any of our rides any day.

“That’s how good I feel about our programs, our safety programs, and the people who work for us to operate and take care of these rides.”

Who is Anna Kendrick?

Anna Kendrick is an American actress, singer and director.

She has become one of Hollywood‘s most versatile and talented performers.

Anna was born in Portland, Maine on August 9, 1985.

She began her career as a child actress on Broadway before transitioning to film and television.

Notable roles

Anna’s breakthrough role came in 2008 with the fantasy romance Twilight — she played Jessica Stanley, a friend of the protagonist Bella Swan.

The role catapulted her into the spotlight and led to her appearing in the subsequent films in the saga.

Her career reached new heights with her performance in Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air (2009), starring alongside George Clooney.

Anna’s portrayal of an ambitious college graduate earned her widespread critical acclaim and nominations for several prestigious awards, including the Academy Award for best supporting actress.

Leading lady

One of her most iconic roles came in 2012 with the musical comedy Pitch Perfect.

Anna played Beca Mitchell, a rebellious college student who joins an all-girl A cappella group.

The film’s success spawned two sequels, cementing her status as a leading lady in Hollywood.

Her other notable movie appearances include Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), 50/50 (2011), Alice Darling (2022) and Into the Woods (2014), where she showcased her singing talents as Cinderella.

Anna has also lent her voice to animated features, most notably as Poppy in the Trolls franchise.

Directorial debut

In 2023, Anna made her directorial debut with Woman of the Hour, a film based on the true story of serial killer Rodney Alcala‘s appearance on The Dating Game in 1978.

Anna not only directed the film, but also stars as Cheryl Bradshaw, who narrowly avoided becoming one of Alcala’s victims.

The film explores the chilling encounter between Cheryl and Alcala on the set of The Dating Game.

Unbeknownst to the producers and contestants, Alcala was in the midst of a killing spree when he appeared on the dating show.

As a first-time director, Anna approached the subject matter with sensitivity, avoiding explicit depictions of violence while still conveying the gravity of the situation.

Speaking of her uncompromising directorial style, Anna told Digital Spy: “I was frankly shocked with myself for being so firm.

“I think I said something along the lines of, ‘If it’s really important to you guys that the movie open in a nightclub and have a certain feeling, that’s fine, but I don’t know how to make that movie’.”
