Turn on iPhone’s ‘stolen protection’ trick that stops phone-snatchers who’ve seen your passcode

YOUR iPhone has a special setting that can protect you from phone-snatchers who have seen your passcode.

It’s designed to hinder thieves who wait to see you unlock your iPhone before nabbing it.

a phone screen shows the stolen device protection settings
Apple / The Sun
Stolen Device Protection is one of the best ways to protect your Apple account[/caption]

The feature is called Stolen Device Protection, and it only takes a few seconds to turn on.

Apple explains: “You can use Stolen Device Protection to protect against the rare instance when someone has stolen your iPhone and knows your passcode.

“Stolen Device Protection prevents the person from performing critical device and Apple Account operations (like changing your device passcode or Apple Account password).

“It does this by requiring biometric authentication with Face ID or Touch ID. There is no passcode to fall back on.”

HOW DOES IPHONE STOLEN DEVICE PROTECTION WORK

Stolen Device Protection is location-based.

So it’s designed to work when you’re away from familiar locations like your home and work.

It means that if someone steals your device while you’re out and about after seeing your passcode, they can’t make “critical” changes.

So accessing your stored passwords and credit cards will require Face ID or Touch ID. There’s no option to use a passcode instead.

And there’s also a Security Delay feature.

So if you want to change your Apple Account passcode, you’ll have to wait an hour and then perform a second Face ID or Touch ID scan.

This is to stop people from stealing your phone, unlocking it with your face, then running off and changing the passcode.

They’d need to stay with you for an entire hour to be able to reset your Apple Account password.

Apple says: “In the event that your iPhone is stolen, the security delay is designed to prevent a thief from performing critical operations so that you can mark your device as lost and make sure your Apple account is secure.”

None of these changes will be in effect if you’re at home or work.

However, you can set it up so that Stolen Device Protection is always active no matter where you are.

HOW TO USE STOLEN DEVICE PROTECTION ON IPHONE

First make sure that you’ve updated your iPhone by going into Settings > General > Software Update.

You’ll also need to make sure that you’ve got four settings set up.

First you need two-factor authentication turned on for your Apple Account.

FULL PROTECTION!

Here's what you can and cannot do with passcodes while Stolen Device Protection is active...

If Stolen Device Protection is turned on, you’ll need to use Face ID or Touch ID to do any of the following:

  • Use passwords or passkeys saved in Keychain
  • Use payment methods saved in Safari (AutoFill)
  • Turn off Lost Mode
  • Erase all content and settings
  • Apply for a new Apple Card
  • View your Apple Card or Apple Cash virtual card number
  • Take certain Apple Cash and Savings actions in Wallet (for example, Apple Cash or Savings transfers)
  • Use your iPhone to set up a new device (for example, Quick Start)

You’ll also experience the Security Delay for any of the following actions:

  • Change your Apple Account password
  • Sign out of your Apple Account
  • Update Apple Account security settings (such as adding or removing a trusted device, Recovery Key, or Recovery Contact)
  • Add or remove Face ID or Touch ID
  • Change your iPhone passcode
  • Reset All Settings
  • Enroll in Mobile Device Management
  • Turn off Stolen Device Protection

Then you need to make sure that you’ve got an iPhone passcode as well as Face ID or Touch ID.

Third, make sure that you’ve got Significant Locations switched on in the Location Services part of your Settings.

And fourth, ensure that you’ve got Find My turned on.

You can’t turn this setting off if you want to use Stolen Device Protection.

Once that’s all sorted, go into Settings > Face ID & Passcode, enter your passcode, and turn Stolen Device Protection on.

From there, you can also choose to require a security delay always – or only when you’re away from familiar locations.

The holidaymaker suffered a deep wound near her right Achilles tendon.

Crew from the speedboat Saracha called the Royal Thai Navy.

Medics were rushed to the scene, where they stopped the bleeding and transported Bacchetta to hospital after carrying her to shore.

She has since been released from hospital and is recovering from the ordeal.

Phang Nga welcomed the first batch of tourists on October 15 after the area was closed for the rainy monsoon season.

The Similan Islands are a group of 11 small islands in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Thailand.

Known for their clear blue waters, vibrant coral reefs, and diverse marine life, the islands are a popular destination for diving, snorkeling, and sightseeing.

Big Brother ‘bullying’ row explodes as live stream reveals latest ‘attack’ on housemate

BIG Brother is embroiled in a bullying row after a mean prank played out in last night’s live stream.

Tensions between contestants Izaaz, Baked Potato, Nathan and Emma continued to simmer during the main episode, particularly when Izaaz was chosen to tackle a physical challenge despite feeling shattered.

Then, late at night, Nathan messed up Izaaz’s bed upon learning from his clique that he liked to keep it tidy, which viewers felt was cruel.

One wrote in a fan forum: “It’s mad how people wanted to scream bully at Ali for saying Khaled was disingenuous (which is now looking to be very true) to his face yet Nathan and Emma seem to have a vendetta against Izaaz and have gone out of their way to make him miserable for at least 3 days and it doesn’t seem to be being blown up or discussed as much as Ali v Khaled.”

Another said: “What he did was annoying, and he is acting like a child, but they are also acting like bullies and it’s only making it worse.

A third shared: “He must feel awful in there right now when he already feels crap and they are just laughing at him and not taking his feelings seriously.”

A fourth posted: “I feel like a lot of the housemates don’t like Izaaz for whatever reason. He got three nominations last time for eviction and I feel like people speak badly about him behind his back quite a bit. Emma’s treatment of him was ridiculously harsh over a single bagel.”

Sleep-deprived Izaaz was fuming throughout a mini-task that saw him forced to churn butter as part of a team.

They had to extract milk from a cow and make eight blocks of butter in 30 minutes.

It came as the house was turned into Number 10 and contestants assigned the role of Prime Minister, Cabinet and citizens.

PM Nathan didn’t care that Izaaz was tired, instead he reasoned that if he refused to do it, they could lay the blame at his feet and make him the scapegoat.

Though he ultimately completed the challenge, alongside Sarah, Hannah, Segun and Thomas, Izaaz’s mood wasn’t buoyed.

It followed a row earlier in the week over a bagel being binned, with Izaaz declaring it a waste of food and telling others that Emma shared his views, which she didn’t appreciate.

She fumed: “Why have you told people I was annoyed about him throwing the bagel away.”

He replied: “I didn’t say you were annoyed, I said I felt you were annoyed, that’s all.”

Emma responded: “Why did you say that when I didn’t say f*ck all to you about it?”

Later on, Dean and Nathan called Izaaz a “s**t-stirrer”.

Emma said: “He annoys me, I can’t lie he really f**king gets on my t*ts.”

When the political shopping task began, the PM and his ministers were given a big spread to enjoy, and the leftovers were handed to the citizens.

But suspicious Dean felt they could fail the task if they tucked into food and threw the bagel away.

I got a free giant Snow Fairy shower jelly in Lush thanks to a hack anyone can do & a Xmas gift for 55p, I saved £48.50

A SAVVY shopper has shared how she picked up a free Snow Fairy shower jelly from Lush worth £45 using a clever hack.

Rachael, who runs the @selfcarewithrachael page, uploaded a video showing how she walked away with the huge saving.

She said: “Did you know you can take your empty Lush pots back to the store and get 50p off per item?

“This includes bath bomb moulds if you made one at a party, and even the little sample pots, which are worth 5p.

“So, here I go—I’m after something in particular.”

Rachael bagged up her old Lush pots and took them to her local store to rack up some credit.

Customers get 50p off your shopping bill if you bring back one of your old pots, or 5p if you return one of their 10ml sample pots.

Alternatively you can get a free face mask if you return five full-sized qualifying items.

Rachael showed herself tipping her huge supply of old containers out in the shop, which came to 97 pots and nine sample pots.

She added: “I did apologise to the staff when I finally brought this in because it was quite a lot.

“The total came to £48.50, I think, in the end.

“I got the giant Snow Fairy shower jelly, obviously, and didn’t have to pay anything extra.”

And that wasn’t all that Rachael picked up, as she also picked up a Christmas jelly in the shape of a capybara too, and only paid 55p for it.

The Lush fan added: “So, it really is worth saving those pots up!”

Many people were impressed, with one saying: “Such a good exhange!

Another added: “how did i not know this, never throwing away again!”

A third commented: “I save all mine and go with a big bag lol.”

How to get money off in Lush with their recycling scheme

LUSH'S Bring It Back recycling scheme invites customers in the UK&I to return any of their Lush plastic packaging back to their shops for recycling.

Not only that but as a thank you for helping keep plastic going and going, they offer a choice of rewards:

  • 1) You can claim 50p/c towards your Lush shopping per qualifying item returned and this will be taken off your total bill at the till-point on the same day. You can now also return your 10ml sample pots for an additional 5p/c off your shopping per item!
  • 2) Prefer a fresh face mask instead? You got it! Just return 5 full-sized qualifying items and choose your mask.

Snow Fairy cult favourite

Snow Fairy first launched in 2013 and developed a fan base who love its sweet-smelling notes of vanilla and cotton candy.

In 2020, Lush sold half a million bottles of their best selling Snow Fairy shower gel over the Christmas period.

Lush also sells Snow Fairy body spray and body conditioner.

They celebrated the return of the Snow Fairy scent products in September, writing on Instagram: “The Snow Fairy is here, to sprinkle kindness, courage, and confidence.

“A sweet scent sparks a journey through a snow-laden forest to the enchanted world of the Snow Fairy.”

Trolls are always telling me to stop snogging my sister – but it’s not what they think

A WOMAN who is constantly being told to stop snogging her sister, has revealed that her relationship is not what it seems.

Jess and Princess look almost identical, and always dress in exactly the same outfits.

They get cruel comments when they kiss in public[/caption]

The duo are inseparable, but their close bond has left some people disgusted.

“Why are you looking at your sister like that?”, one troll commented under a video posted by the duo.

However, the pair revealed that despite looking like doppelgangers, they are not actually related at all, and are in a relationship.

Princess said that she finds herself attractive, so was drawn to Jess because of her similar looks.

“We do look alike, the curly hair, the prettiness”, Jess told Love Don’t Judge.

When they first got together Jess and Princess dressed very differently, but soon decided to match each others styles so that they looked even more like twins.

However, they said that they are scared to do PDA, as it always leads to backlash from people who think the couple are related.

Determined not to let the judgement get to them, the women said: “We don’t live our life for nobody else except for ourselves.”

And the duo aren’t the only ones who have been criticised for allegedly dating a family member.

Lauren Evens recently revealed that she was trolled horrendously after sharing her wedding photos, with many believing that the pictures showed her kissing a 10-year-old boy.

However, the other person in the photographs wasn’t actually a young boy at all, it was her 29 year old wife Hannah.

“Some people said it was cute that my 10-year-old son was walking me down the aisle,” says social media promoter Lauren.

“Others said it was disgusting that I was kissing a young boy.

“I paid thousands of pounds to look younger and change my body and appearance, but my wife is just very lucky to have incredible genes.

Why are we attracted to people that look like us?

A recent study suggests that people are more likely to find love with partners who bear a resemblance to themselves. Conducted by a team of researchers, the study analysed the physical features of numerous couples and found a significant trend towards partners having similar facial characteristics. This phenomenon, often referred to as “assortative mating,” indicates that individuals may subconsciously seek out mates who look like them.

The researchers believe this tendency could be linked to the comfort and familiarity associated with one’s own appearance. Seeing reflections of oneself in a partner might foster a sense of security and trust, which are crucial components in forming lasting relationships. The study also touches upon the evolutionary perspective, suggesting that choosing partners with similar genetic traits might have been beneficial for our ancestors.

Moreover, the findings extend beyond just physical appearance. The study also uncovered that couples often share similar lifestyles, interests, and values, further reinforcing the idea that like attracts like. While this does not mean that opposites never attract, it highlights the importance of commonalities in the foundation of romantic relationships.

“She is two years younger – I am not getting arrested.

“Hannah is a tough nut but the comments offend me and they are incredibly hurtful.

“People think they have the right to call me a predator or a paedophile and that disgusts me.

“The amount of abuse we have received is just ridiculous.”
