A BRAND new law will see drivers slapped with a hefty $140 fine if they’re caught using a particularly sneaky move to avoid traffic.
The new rule coming to Chelan County, Washington State, was announced on Monday and goes into effect immediately.
In a ruling passed by the County’s Sheriff’s Office, drivers who are now caught avoiding traffic control signals by driving through a parking lot – such as a stop light or sign – will receive the fine.
As reported by KPQ, Commissioner Kevin Overbay said: “It was primarily for safety reasons that the Sheriff’s Office brought it to the commissioners, and we were able to go ahead and pass it yesterday.
“So if a deputy within the city limits of Wenatchee or any other city in the county or an unincorporated area of the county sees you at a traffic light using a parking lot as a bypass, you can actually be pulled over and cited.”
The request was reportedly brought by the Sheriff’s Office before commissioners due to persistent issues with drivers using parking and vacant lots to avoid signed and signalled intersections.
The revealed that the problem areas in the County ranged from Wenatchee, Chelan, and Leavenworth, as well as others.
According to KFLD News, one of the most notorious locations in the Tri-Cities is the intersection of Canal and Edison.
Here, two of the four corners have convenience stores on them, and often drivers use the Circle K parking lot to turn south onto Edison.
However, neighboring Douglas County and the cities of Wenatchee and East Wenatchee currently don’t have the ruling on their books.
This means only deputies within the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office can enforce the law within their jurisdiction.
This comes as another new law was revealed that prohibits overnight parking of RVs on certain public streets.
The parking regulations will roll out on November 1 in San Francisco as lawmakers seek to combat the escalating homelessness in the city.
Parking enforcement officers can tow RVs or trailers without a warrant if the occupant declines shelter and housing services offered by city officials.
Before the new bill was passed, officials were only allowed to tow an RV or trailer with a proper warrant.
Meanwhile, it was announced recently that new cars sold in New York within the next five years could come with intelligent speed assistance tech installed.
A key member of the New York State Assembly has introduced the legislation in an attempt to reduce traffic accidents.
The new bill states the speed assistance system will alert drivers using an audio and visual signal when they drive more than 10mph over the speed limit.
DARTS star Jose de Sousa left viewers stunned after an outrageous double bullseye checkout.

FORMULA ONE is bringing in a new rule change – just weeks after claims of collusion amongst teams.
The FIA has announced it will scrap the awarding of a bonus point for the fastest lap from next season.
It follows controversy at the Singapore Grand Prix involving RB driver Daniel Ricciardo.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella was left baffled after Ricciardo posted the fastest lap at the Marina Bay Street Circuit on September 22.
Ricciardo, who drives for Red Bull’s junior RB team, pitted to go onto soft tyres when back in 18th place.
He thundered around the circuit, denying a point to McLaren’s Lando Norris who would go on to win the race.
The bonus point is only awarded if a driver finishes inside the top 10, meaning Ricciardo’s own standing did not benefit from the move.
Norris reduced Red Bull driver Max Verstappen‘s lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship to 52 points thanks to his victory.
Stella called for the issue to be “addressed,” but stopped short of accusing Red Bull of colluding with sister team RB.
He said: “As soon as you invoke the sportsmanship, I think you need to approach this with a sense of responsibility that I want to have.

KANSAS City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes’ dad feared his arrest for driving while intoxicated would cost the NFL side victory in the Super Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes Sr was pulled over and quizzed by cops on February 3 in Texas – just days before the Chiefs star-studded clash against the San Francisco 49ers.
Mahomes Sr was stopped after allegedly driving a car that had out-of-date registration, per TMZ.
The video showed Mahomes Sr being asked to hand over a can of Coors.
He was then asked to complete sobriety tests before an officer asked him if he suffered from any health conditions.
Mahomes Sr was asked how many beers he had drank that night, to which he replied two.
He revealed that he had his last beer around 30 minutes before being pulled over.
Mahomes Sr appeared to cooperate with cops as he said he would do whatever he was asked.
The footage showed Mahomes Sr completing the tests before being handcuffed on DWI allegations.
Mahomes Sr asked why he was stopped before asking cops if they were serious.
Mahomes Sr was arrested and told cops his son was going to play in the Super Bowl.
“He probably won’t win the Super Bowl,” he was heard telling the cops.
“But that’s fine. If that’s what y’all want to do, that’s good.”
Mahomes Sr was released from jail hours after his arrest.
And he managed to watch his son win the Super Bowl.
Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to the charges in July and was sentenced to five years of probation in September, as reported by ABC affiliate KLTV.
As part of his probation, his driver’s license has been suspended for one year.
Mahomes Sr was also ordered to have a breathalyzer device installed in his car.
Judges revealed that he will have to go to Alcoholics Anonymous courses.
The quarterback’s dad revealed he hasn’t had a drink since the February arrest.
In August, he marked six years of being sober.
The arrest in Texas wasn’t the first time Mahomes Sr was cited for DWI.
In 2019, he was sentenced to 40 days in jail for the offense.
FOUR people have died following a catastrophic car crash that sparked pyrotechnic explosions.
Two children aged eight and 11 were killed in the crash in Vozzhaevka, a village in Russia’s Amur region when a car smashed into a truck carrying fireworks.
The impact of the collision caused the truck to fall onto its side, sparking the explosions.
The lorry driver has sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, reports have stated.

AFTER a chance encounter, Arizona grandma Wanda Dench and a then-teenage Jamal Hinton formed a strong bond that has stood the test of time.
This is a story of an unlikely friendship that captivated the hearts of the nation and the rest of the world.
To tell Wanda Dench and Jamal Hinton’s story, we have take you back to 2016.
The pair met after an accidental text was sent on Thanksgiving.
At the time Jamal was 17, and Wanda was a 57-year-old grandmother and they both lived in Arizona.
The pair struck up an incredible friendship after Wanda mistakenly asked Jamal around for Thanksgiving dinner, thinking she was texting her grandson.
After messages were exchanged, she realized her mistake but didn’t rescind the invitation.
After a plea from Jamal to “still get a plate”, she wrote: “Of course you can. That’s what grandma’s do… feed everyone.”
Speaking to the Arizona Republic the following year, Wanda said she now considers Hinton her “honorary grandson”.
She added: “I’m loving it. I love that you don’t have to know someone or know their background to be nice to them.”
Jamal formed a serendipitous friendship with Wanda, and has spent every Thanksgiving with her family since the heartwarming exchange.
The holiday tradition has been documented in newspaper headlines around the world.
“I don’t know what I would be doing for the holidays this year, last year or years before if I didn’t have Wanda in my life, so I’m just grateful,” Hinton told The Times.
During the rest of the year, the close friends revealed they also try to see each other every two months.
In October 2024, as the pair started getting ready to celebrate their 8th Thanksgiving together, Wanda revealed she has breast cancer.
Supporting her through her battle is Jamal, who posted her story on social media.
In a statement shared on his Instagram, Wanda said: “Earlier this year, I came down with bronchitis and had a CT scan to check out my lungs.
“That’s when a mass in my breast was detected and they suggested I get a mammogram and that verified I had breast cancer.”
Wanda said that cancer doesn’t run in her family and that all of her previous mammograms had been negative.
Everyone was so kind, supportive, and knowledgeable. My family and friends quickly came to my aid and have supported me through everything.

She talked about how she believed the mammogram she got in 2022, would be her last.
“I was wrong,” she said. “After the shock wore off, I met with the most wonderful people at the Breast Cancer Center.
“Everyone was so kind, supportive, and knowledgeable.
“My family and friends quickly came to my aid and have supported me through everything.”
Fans of Wanda and Jamal flooded the post with messages of support.
One wrote: “Sending love to our grandma!”
While another added: “This is one of my favorite stories around Thanksgiving!! Praying for Ms. Wanda.”
This person said: “Sending lots of love and happiness to the best grandma ever.”

But a spokesperson for the local ambulance service confirmed Liam was already dead from “extremely serious” injuries by the time police arrived.

THE FIRST storm of the season has been named after forecasters issued a “danger to life” warning amid predictions of 80mph winds.
Storm Ashley has been named by Irish meteorological service Met Éireann – which warned of “very strong and gusty southerly winds”, coupled with high spring tides.
They said the warnings were valid starting midday on Sunday until 9pm that night.
Meanwhile the Met Office has warned of “especially strong winds” on Sunday afternoon and evening in Western Scotland.
They said gusts could reach up to 80mph in exposed areas, issuing a yellow weather wind warning from 3am Sunday until midday on Monday.
They said it would be closer to 65mph in other parts of the warning area.
“These strong winds in conjunction with high spring tides may cause some disruption,” the Met Office said.
They added that there is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris.
There is also a chance of damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, and injuries could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage, the Met Office said.
It comes after the forecaster issued a severe warning lasting right through rush hour and covering much of the South East of England and the Midlands.
The weather agency said: “Areas of fog, dense in places, are likely to cause travel delays this morning.”
The warning was in place until 9am, with the weather slowing down journey times – with cancellations to flights a distinct possibility.
The area covered by the alert includes both Gatwick and Heathrow airports.
The weather is set to turn increasingly wet and windy today.
Although it’s a dry start for many, a low-pressure system is expected to bring strong winds to the north and west – with a yellow wind warning in place until 3pm in Scotland.
This combined with high spring tides may result in some coastal impacts, potentially continuing into the weekend on some coasts, the Met Office says.
Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “A period of strong south to southeasterly winds is likely across western Scotland on Friday morning into the early afternoon, before easing and turning southwesterly through the afternoon.
“Wind gusts of 45-55mph are possible fairly widely for a time, and perhaps in excess of 60mph in more exposed locations.
“Given the wind direction and high spring tides, some disruption is possible.”
However, things will be dry and brighter further south and east, with temperatures near normal or just above average.
The weather is set to remain unsettled going into the weekend, with further rain at times tomorrow.
By Sunday, a deep area of low pressure will arrive from the Atlantic bringing more widespread strong winds, particularly in northern and western areas.
A yellow warning for wind has been issued from 3am on Sunday until midday on Monday.

Photos published by Argentine media showed white powder, burnt aluminium foil and a smashed TV screen inside his room.

Forensic teams reported that a whiskey bottle, lighter and mobile phone were retrieved from the building’s internal courtyard where Liam’s body was found.
But cops are yet to confirm what the substances found in the room are and are due to run tests on them shortly.
The singer had been open about his battles with addiction in the past.
A final 911 call from hotel staff on Wednesday revealed they needed “urgent assistance” from cops to help with a guest “behaving erratically”.
Argentinian police said staff reported an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol”.
Recordings from the 911 calls made by the head of reception show them reporting “a guest who is destroying everything in his room”.
In a second appeal for help the receptionist said: “We need you to send someone urgently because I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger.
“They must be in a room that has a balcony. And well, we’re a little bit worried he’ll do something, that he’ll put his life at risk.”
Liam – who was in Buenos Aires for a holiday after going to see pal Niall Horan’s tour – was found dead in the hotel’s inner courtyard at around 5pm local time (9pm UK time).
His death was confirmed as soon as ambulance crews arrived.
Officials have said “everything indicates” that he was alone when he died and could have been partly or fully unconscious when he fell.
A full toxicology report is still pending and could take weeks to become public.
The prosecutor said that the autopsy showed internal bleeding and 25 traumatic injuries to his skull, limbs and abdomen, consistent with a fall.

“When I was missing home as a 17-year-old kid, you would always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile and let me know you were my friend and that I was loved.”
He added: “When it came to the music, Liam, you were the most qualified in every sense.
“I knew nothing in comparison, I was a novice child with no experience and you were already a professional.
“I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly.
“I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever”.
And Harry Styles wrote: “I am truly devastated by Liam’s passing.
“His greatest joy was making other people happy, and it was an honour to be alongside him as he did it.
“Liam lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve, he had an energy for life that was infectious.
“He was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving.
“The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life. I will miss him always, my lovely friend.
“My heart breaks for Karen, Geoff, Nicola and Ruth, his son Bear, and all those around the world who knew and loved him, as I did.”
It said those injuries alone were enough to cause his death.
A lack of defensive injuries on his hands indicated that he may have fallen into a state of unconsciousness, the public prosecutor said.

Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden shared an image of the pair together with the words: “Such an awful tragedy.
“Sending love to his family and all those who loved him.”
X Factor star Olly Murs told fans he was “devastated” and “lost for words”.
He wrote on social media: “Liam shared the same passions as me, the same dreams so to see his life now end so young hits hard, I’m truly gutted and devastated for his Family and of course his son Bear losing a dad x”.
Liam Gallagher said he was “very sad” and told his followers on X: “Life is precious Kids, you only get to do it once, go easy.”
Former X Factor presenter Dermot O’Leary has also expressed his shock and spoke on This Morning.
He said: “I remember him as a 14 year old turning up to audition on The X Factor, and blowing us away singing Sinatra. He just loved to sing.
“He was always a joy, had time for everyone, polite, grateful, and was always humble.”
BBC Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball reacted to the “devastating news” on her show and told fans she hugged her own son Woody tight this morning.
JLS band member Marvin Humes reflected on his memories with the singer, sharing: “I first met Liam in 2008 with the JLS boys whilst auditioning for X Factor..he was 14 years old..
“We instantly clicked and looked at him as a little brother..that year it worked out for us but not for him and then 2 years later he went back to audition and One Direction was born..the rest is history..

Niall Horan’s brother Greg shared an emotional tribute to Liam, praising him as a “top young man”.

American singer, Charlie Puth, who was friends with Liam and also collaborated with him on a song called Bedroom Floor, has posted a series of Instagram stories dedicated to him.
Alongside photos of the two of them together in their younger days, Charlie wrote: “I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me.

ITV weather presenter Alex Beresford shared a news video about Liam’s tragic death on Instagram, adding: “Can’t believe this! RIP Liam.”
Meanwhile Love Island star Molly Marsh penned: “I’m so taken aback, rest in peace.”
James Cordon also paid his own tribute, describing the star as a “loving and kind soul”.
The Gavin and Stacey actor wrote on Instagram: “Talking about Liam in the past tense is utterly heart-breaking.
“I will treasure the moments I got to spend with him. My thoughts are with his family today x.”

Former Little Mix star Jade Thirwall – who won X Factor with her bandmates one year after One Direction took part – described him as “the first friend I made in this industry”.
She said: “We fell out of touch as the years went by, but back in 2008 he was the first friend I made in this industry.
“Both of us so young, so ambitious, both hoping we’d ‘make it’. I hope you are at peace now”.
