Coronation Street legend devastated as she’s told she has to work Christmas Day shift
A CORRIE legend was left completely devastated when she was told she had to work on Christmas Day.
In tonight’s episode of Coronation Street, Toyah Battersby, played by Georgia Taylor, was left in a state of shock when her sister dropped a not-so-festive bombshell on her.
Leanne and Toyah are sisters who are currently at loggerheads[/caption] Toyah and Nick had planned to go on holiday but had their plans dashed[/caption]Toyah’s jaw was left on the floor when she was told by Leanne Battersby, who is played by Jane Danson, that she had to work on Christmas Day next week.
The sad news of her Christmas Day shift came after she was left disappointed that she had to skip a holiday to Tenerife with Nick Tilsley, played by Ben Price.
Recently, Toyah and Nick’s romance has ramped up which came after they had an affair earlier this year before parking their relationship when Leanne found out.
The couple then rekindled their romance in secret with a plan to tell Leanne eventually.
But before the pair could break the news to her, Leanne found out about the affair and set out for revenge, stealing Toyah’s passport and transferring money from the Bistro business account to a fake one.
Then, Nick hired Toyah to work in the Bistro alongside himself and Leanne, which complicated things further and has now fanned the flames even more.
Having discovered her sister’s secret relationship with her ex, Leanne then found out that the pair were planning a trip to Tenerife, which sparked her to make arrangements for Nick’s son to join his dad.
With Nick’s son joining him on holiday, this ended up putting a stop to all the plans Nick and Toyah had made.
However, Leanne’s revenge plot thickened when she revealed to her sister that she has to work on Christmas Day.
FANS REACT TO TONIGHT’S EPISODE
Reacting to the episode on social media, one person took to X to say: “‘I’m going to have to ask you to work on Christmas Day’ – Leanne doing an Ebenezer Scrooge on Toyah.”
Another then added: “Leanne saying she’s Nick’s plus one to make Toyah jealous. Why is this actually getting funny.”
“The revenge game Leeann’s playing with Toyah & Nick is getting on my nerves & hopefully she’ll end up with egg on her face & suffering for it,” penned a third.
A fourth then slammed: “This Leanne and Toyah storyline is childish sh*te.”
While a fifth added: “Leeann is being really petty & pathetic about Toyah & Nick. Let it go Leeann ffs & move TF on already!”
Toyah Battersby's biggest Corrie storylines
Georgia Taylor joined Coronation Street in 1997 to play Leanne’s cocky younger sister Toyah.
The character soon made a huge impact amongst fans as her first major storyline saw her being abducted by a stranger.
At the time, her character was seen as a controversial figure after she became the first female character to be involved in a storyline about under-age sex.
Later, she began a romantic relationship with Spider Nugent (Martin Hancock) in 1999, before he departed the soap the following year.
However, in one of the soaps most major storylines, Toyah was again at the centre after she was beaten and raped by Phil Simmonds (Jack Deam).
After winning awards for her performance – including the Best Dramatic Performance gong at The British Soap Awards – she decided to leave the ITV serial drama in 2002. Her character officially departed the show in February 20023.
She was absent for 13 years before the actress announced her return to the cobbles in December 2016, after first coming back to set four months before.
Her return storyline focussed on the end of her marriage to Toby Chapman (Andrew Dowbiggin) as she had an affair with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).
Since then, she made her desire to have more children known after trying to pass off another baby as her own. She said that the baby of Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) was the result of IVF treatment with Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo).
Their romance ended in heartbreak after she caused his death in a huge car accident. She was later found not guilty after she was arrested and charged with his murder.
Recent storylines have included the breakdown of her relationship with her sister Leanne after she becomes brainwashed and obsessed with the cult-like Altovalent Institute.
After she embarks on an affair with her sister’s fiance Nick, she is soon diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
And a sixth said: “Whatever Leanne is doing, she thinks she’s in charge, she’s only going to end up being the bigger loser in the end.”
LEANNE’S REVENGE AT CHRISTMAS
The Leanne, Toyah, and Nick love triangle storyline is set to take a darker turn over Christmas.
Fueled by Nick and Toyah’s betrayal, Leanne channels her pain into seeking revenge, with confrontations set to unravel on Christmas Day.
It is set to be a total showdown over the festive period where emotions boil over, and no one escapes unscathed.
