NIKE’S CEO, Elliott Hill, is wasting no time by addressing the challenges facing the sportswear giant.
Following a disappointing 8% revenue drop in Q2, Hill, who took over the role in October, laid out an ambitious plan to rejuvenate the brand on Thursday.
In his plan, Hill outlined a new strategy.
This new approach focuses on rebuilding partnerships with wholesale collaborators, boosting investments in brand storytelling, as well as strengthening local market teams.
The measures aim to reverse the downward trend and restore Nike’s position as a market leader.
The company reported Q2 revenues of $12.4 billion, which is down from $13.4 billion during the same period last year.
But that wasn’t all.
Declines were seen across the board. Nike’s direct revenue fell 13% and wholesale revenues slipped by 3%.
Net income also dropped significantly, down 26% to $1.2 billion.
During Hill’s first earnings call as CEO, he didn’t shy away from sharing hard truths.
He criticized Nike for losing sight of its core identity, citing an overreliance on a limited range of popular products and insufficient investment in brand development.
The CEO also cited a centralization of resources that neglected key cities and markets as a major issue.
“We need to get back to the basics of sport and strengthen our emotional connection with consumers,” Hill told analysts.
“The consistent feedback we’ve heard is pretty simple: Let’s see more of Nike being Nike,” Hill said.
The CEO further shared, “Some partners and channels feel we’ve turned our back on them, and we stopped engaging consistently.”
Hill emphasized that the retailer would focus its attention on earning the trust of its wholesale partners once again as well as rebuilding those important relationships.
In an effort to move proactively, Hill explained that he’d spoken to many of the brand’s wholesale partners directly.
This includes the likes of Dick’s Sporting Goods, Foot Locker, and JD Sports, as well as major sports organizations like the NBA.
Rebuilding relationships with wholesale partners will help to reestablish a balanced distribution network.
While greater investment in brand storytelling aims to rekindle consumer enthusiasm.
Needham analyst Tom Nikic said, “While fundamentals will be very challenged in the near term, we believe that it takes a back seat to the narrative, which is that of a veteran athlete coming out of retirement to pull his once-proud team out of the dumps.”
The CEO’s willingness to confront the company’s shortcomings head-on and proactively pivot may signal a new chapter for the iconic brand.
Earlier this year, Nike revealed its futuristic-looking footwear that massages your feet and even heats up while you’re wearing them.
A MAJOR illegal sports streaming network visited 812million times to watch football games on the cheap has been shut down.
The world’s leading anti-piracy group have put a stop to infamous illicit websites based in Vietnam, which were accessed internationally.
The sites were mainly used by people in the US and Canada, where sports games were streamed daily[/caption]The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) announced their proud crackdown on one of the largest global sports piracy rings.
Their research found the notorious websites were visited 812million times in the past year, one of the largest ACE operations so far.
The sites were mainly used by people in the US and Canada, where sports games were streamed daily.
They were all pulled down – including bestsolaris.com, streameast.to, markkystreams.com, crackstreams.dev, and weakspell.to.
ACE targeted them through a global investigation and they agreed to transfer 138 domains immediately.
Larissa Knapp, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Protection Officer for the Motion Picture Association (MPA) said: “The shutdown of this globally notorious live sports piracy ring is a huge victory in our campaign against the piracy of live sports programs and follows other recent successful actions by ACE and law enforcement in Vietnam.
“ACE’s live sports members face a unique threat when it comes to digital piracy, as live sports broadcasts lose substantial commercial value once the game ends.
“The takedown serves as a warning to piracy operators everywhere – including operators in live sports piracy – that ACE will identify and shut down their illegal operations.”
The illegal operation affected all ACE members, including ACE’s sports tier members beIN Sports, Canal+ and DAZN.
Ed McCarthy, Chief Operating Officer of DAZN said: “DAZN stands with ACE in the fight to eradicate piracy, which undermines the sports ecosystem at all levels.
“It is very pleasing that a criminal operation of this scale was taken down.
“Piracy often compromises the security of fans’ data, which is then used for illegal purposes, so the closure of this piracy ring has the added benefit that potential subscribers will be guided toward legitimate content providers like DAZN.”
Users trying to access the shut down sited will be redirected to the ACE “Watch Legally” page.
THE driver who ploughed through a Magdeburg Christmas market killed five people in just three minutes.
Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, 50, is suspected of driving a rented black BMW into the packed festive scene in horror scenes on Friday night.
Footage caught the moment the car ploughed into the market[/caption]One of the five dead is a nine-year-old as another 205 holiday revellers now deal with injuries sustained from the rampage.
The attack began at 7.02pm local time when the rental was driven off a car-friendly road and onto Breiter Weg, a street that just carries light rail.
He is believed to have hit several pedestrians here before quickly turning right onto Alter Markt.
The car was travelling at up to 40mph when he first smashed into people, horrified witnesses said.
The Magdeburg Christmas market ran down Alter Markt, a relatively narrow pedestrianised road that opens into a square.
The street had no bollards at its entrance as city authorities had wanted it to be able to be used by emergency services.
Alter Markt was packed with revellers enjoying the Christmas market stalls.
The BMW hurtled down the street hitting the revellers, leaving five dead and 205 injured.
CCTV footage captured the moment locals were slammed into by the car and they were thrown onto the ground.
Some dived out of the way as they desperately tried to dodge the flying motor.
Witnesses said the ground was covered in blood and tinsel as doctors scrambled to treat the injured.
The car went “through people” and sent others “going over it”, a man standing just feet away from the crash added.
Soon after, emergency services received the first calls and cops and rescue workers rushed to the scene.
The car then took the next right, travelling down another wing of the Christmas market back towards the main street.
The car sped down Alter Markt – where the Christmas market was[/caption] Flowers have been left near the market following the rampage[/caption]Suspect Taleb al-Abdulmohsen then took another right onto the main road Ernst-Reuter-Allee.
The car managed to only travel about 50m before cops stationed nearby stopped it and arrested the Saudi refugee with guns pulled.
By 7.08pm, the first rescue teams had arrived to treat the injured.
Germany has been left in shock by the rampage as it evoked memories of terror attacks and fears of copycat efforts.
Taleb, a Saudi citizen who arrived in Germany in 2006 and had worked as a doctor, is thought to have acted alone.
The suspected attacker has no known links to Islamist extremism – his posts online appear to suggest he had instead been highly critical of Islam.
Taleb is said to have stayed at the Maritim Hotel in Magdeburg numerous times in November and December which is where he may have prepared the crime, according to Spiegel.
It comes as…
One witness who gave her name as Nadine said her boyfriend Marco was ripped out of her arms when he was hit by the car.
She told Bild: “He was hit and pulled away from my side. It was terrible.
“Nobody even screamed. You couldn’t hear the car either.”
Marco had injuries to his leg and head: “We don’t know which hospital he went to. The uncertainty is unbearable.”
Officials fear the number of deaths could rise in the coming hours.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Magdeburg today and addressed a large crowd in the heartbroken city.
Tents were set up to treat the injured at the Christmas market[/caption] Taleb appeared to be in a BBC documentary back in 2019[/caption]He described the events as “a terribly, tragic incident” as he confirmed five people have been confirmed as dead so far.
Scholz said: “What a terrible act it is to injure and kill so many people there with such brutality.
“Almost 40 are so seriously injured that we must be very worried about them.
“It is important that nothing remains uninvestigated, that every stone is turned,” he added.
In 2016, a Tunisian man, who had links to Islamic State, drove a truck into crowds gathered at a church market in Berlin, killing 12 and injuring 49 others.
Two years later, a gunman opened fire on a Christmas market in the eastern French city of Strasbourg, killing five and injuring another 11 people.

Broadcaster and royal biographer Hugo Vickers called the latest ceasefire a “very good strategy”, as the couple’s tirade against their family was becoming “unpopular”.
Harry and Meghan have gradually stopped their public insults[/caption] Hugo Vickers said the couple are probably prioritising their charity work[/caption]Harry and Meghan have not given any more tell-all interviews like the ones which followed “Megxit” in 2020.
This could be because their views have “lost mileage”, said Hugo.
Stepping away from old habits might also allow the couple to focus on more “positive” things.
He told The Sun: “They’ve realized that it wasn’t getting anywhere, because it was causing so much trouble.”
The expert also claimed that for Harry and Meghan money will be at the forefront of their minds.
Remaining in the limelight and adjusting their behaviour accordingly is therefore important to the couple.
He said: “In order to earn a lot of money, they have to sometimes be controversial if you like.
“Or things which will keep themselves in the public eye.”
When asked about the King‘s relationship with his son, Hugo said he thought it was salvageable but would require compromise.
“He’s [Harry] the one who needs to pull himself together and extend the olive branch because he is the one making it difficult between them,” he said.
But he added healing old wounds probably wasn’t at the top of the monarch’s list of priorities.
And a reunion between the feuding father and son is unlikely in the near future.
He believes this is because Harry attracts too much publicity – which deflects attention from the King.
He said: “The most successful members of the royal family are the ones who support the King in what he’s doing, and they don’t compete with him.”
This comes as it was reported the couple are tipped to have new shows on Netflix next year – which could mean more publicity interviews.
Harry has just released a behind-the-scenes documentary about the world of polo.
Meghan is expected to release a show tied in with her new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard.
The Sussexes have been contacted for comment.
