6 days agoUSA UpdateComments Off on Clarification on Dream Team Gameweeks over festive period – don’t get caught out by schedule quirks
DREAM TEAM managers need to be aware of the schedule throughout the festive period.
Gameweeks typically run from Friday night or Saturday morning until Thursday evening but there are some quirks to be aware of in the coming weeks.
Dream Team bosses should be aware of the scheduling quirks around Christmas[/caption]
Gameweek 16 contains a full round of Premier League fixtures to be played over the weekend followed by eight games on Boxing Day (Thursday 26th December) as well as two more the day after (Friday 27th December).
Usually, those Friday night games would kickstart the following Gameweek but to simplify things, the two fixtures due to take place on 27th December — Brighton v Brentford and Arsenal v Ipswich – will be included in Gameweek 16.
Simply put, all 20 teams will play twice in Gameweek 16 and just once in Gameweek 17 – this is the most important point for gaffers to bear in mind.
Arsenal v Ipswich on Friday December 27th is included in Gameweek 16[/caption]
Looking ahead to January, Gameweek 18 is also little unusual because of a quirk in the FA Cup scheduling.
The majority of the FA Cup third round games will take place in Gameweek 19 but three fixtures have been scheduled for the preceding Thursday and will therefore be part of Gameweek 18.
Sheffield United v Cardiff is irrelevant in the context of Dream Team since it’s a meeting between two Championship sides but points will be scored during Everton v Peterborough and Fulham v Watford.
This means the Toffees and the Cottagers are set to pull double duty in Gameweek 18.
And they won’t be alone since the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals are scheduled for Gameweek 18 — four of the following teams will be involved: Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Southampton, Manchester United, Tottenham, Newcastle, Brentford.
All teams except Everton and Fulham will then double up in Gameweek 19 when a full round of Premier League games follows in midweek after the bulk of the cup action.
If that all seemed like a word scramble, here’s a concise summary.
DREAM TEAM FESTIVE SCHEDULE:
GAMEWEEK 16: All 20 teams play twice
GAMEWEEK 17: All 20 teams play once
GAMEWEEK 18: Everton, Fulham and Carabao Cup semi-finalists play twice, 14 other clubs play once
GAMEWEEK 19: All clubs except Everton and Fulham play twice

You’ll have other things on your mind in the coming weeks but remember to stay on top of all things Dream Team as there will be plenty of points on offer.

THE CHEAPEST supermarket petrol stations across Britain have been revealed as millions prepare for the Christmas getaway.
It’s thought that a record number of cars will hit the roads in the days leading up to Christmas – meaning many will be extra-conscious of the cost of fuel.
A record number of cars will hit the roads in the days leading up to Christmas this year[/caption]
Ahead of the great Christmas getaway, the cheapest supermarket petrol stations across Britain have been revealed[/caption]
Asda dominates the top 10 cheapest places to buy fuel, alongside Sainsbury’s[/caption]
It appears regular Tesco and Morrisons customers might be left particularly short-changed as Sainsbury’s and Asda dominate the list of the 10 cheapest petrol stations in the country.
To that end, analysis from motoring experts at Tiger.co.uk found that the Sainsbury’s in Doncaster is the most affordable supermarket petrol pump in the entire country.
Motorists can fuel up for just 127.9p per litre, almost a penny cheaper than the Asda in Aberdeen – which sits at number two.
Indeed, while they miss out on top spot, Asda boasts six stores in the top 10 cheapest – compared to Sainsbury’s four.
The full list of the cheapest petrol stations across the country can be found using our handy tool.
Just type in the name of a city and it will tell you where exactly it ranks.
Ian Wilson, Managing Director at Tiger.co.uk, said shopping at the cheapest pumps could make a big difference when it comes to saving money at Christmas time.
He said: “It is fantastic news for motorists that this is set to be the cheapest Christmas at the pumps since 2020.
“As households across the UK continue to deal with the challenges of soaring bills, any opportunity to save money can make a big difference, especially in the weeks leading up to Christmas when financial pressures can be even higher.
“With our roads becoming busier every day as people travel home for the holidays, we’ve compiled this useful list of the most cost-effective cities to refuel your vehicle.”
Friday, December 20 will be the busiest day with some 23.7 million drivers expected to be on the roads – the highest since records began in 2010.
Festive journeys around the M25, M6 around Birmingham and the M4 out of London all expected to be busier than usual.
Saturday, December 21 and Monday, December 23 will offer little respite, with each set to see 22.7 million drivers on the roads – resulting in the AA issuing several amber traffic warnings.
Traffic hotspots have already been identified with Saturday expected to be particularly hectic for the M1 around Meadowhall, the M25 around Bluewater and the M60 around the Trafford Centre.
Meanwhile, Monday could see chaos for parts of the M1, the M42 J3A to J8, the A64 around York and the A303 around Stonehenge.
Both the M5 from Bristol to Taunton, and the A34 Oxford to Newbury have been listed as potential traffic hotspots on the same day.
In another win for our Keep It Down campaign, she kept the levy rate at 52.95p per litre rather than adding an inflationary increase of 7p per litre.
And White Van Man will be the biggest winner, with £215 saved for those clocking up 25,000 miles or more.
The average car driver who travels around 7,000 miles a year is likely to save £55, while families with two vehicles could be £100 better off.

6 days agoUSA UpdateComments Off on Child abuse, heroin battles & cheating hell – the dark side of Paris Hilton & Nicole Richie’s The Simple Life success
IT’S been 21 years since socialites Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie made their TV debut on The Simple Life.
Fast forward two decades, and the pair have reunited for a new three part series called Paris & Nicole: The Encore.
Nicole and Paris’ friendship dates back to their childhood days[/caption]
But while the pals, both now married with two children each, are delighted to get back to their reality TV roots, their path to stardom has been anything but smooth sailing.
Both raised in immense wealth – Paris’ great grandfather was Conrad Hilton, founder of the Hilton Hotel chain, while Nicole was adopted as a child by pop superstar Lionel Richie and his family – the girls have nevertheless endured their fair share of heartache and tragedy.
As the ladies, both 43, come back together, we take a look at their far from Simple Life and the horrors that have blighted them – from drug addiction and child abuse to tragic deaths and jail time.
HEROIN HELL
Following her parents’ divorce in 1993, Nicole turned to drink and drugs, starting with cocaine as a teenager and ending in full blown heroin addiction by the time she was in her early twenties.
According to Nicole, who went on to become a renowned fashion designer, her drug use stemmed from boredom.
Speaking in 2007, she said: “I think I was just bored, I had seen everything- especially when you’re young, you just want more.”
It was her father, Lionel, who urged her into rehab just before The Simple Life aired, cancelling his tour to help her and telling a TV interview later he was convinced his daughter was going to die.
“My past is out there. I have no choice but to be honest,” Nicole said years later.
Meanwhile, Paris also fought her own battles with drugs, famously getting arrested for possession of cocaine in 2010.
CHILD ABUSE
Paris shocked the world when she revealed she was the victim of alleged child abuse when at school and has even addressed US Congress as she fights for a change in youth facilities in the States.
According to Paris she was “force-fed medications and sexually abused by staff” at a private school in Utah, after being sent there as a teen.
She says her parents, Kathy and Richard, had no idea.
“They just thought it was going to be a normal boarding school,” Paris said.
“But we would just constantly be torn down, abused, screamed and yelled at.”
Paris is now fighting to pass a bill called the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act.
In an open letter posted on Instagram she wrote: “Silence doesn’t heal — it only protects the people that caused the harm.
Speaking up has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it’s also been the most powerful.”
CHEATING SCANDALS
Paris and Nicole became TV personalities after appearing on the reality series The Simple Life in 2003[/caption]
Despite being two of the most sought after bachelorettes on the Hollywood scene, Paris and Nicole suffered plenty of heartache before settling down with their respective spouses.
Nicole has been happily married to Good Charlotte star Joel Madden since 2010, while Paris wed businessman Carter Reum in 2021, but prior to that the ladies have admitted to being cheated on.
Speaking recently on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Nicole confessed to being “devastated and shocked to my core” when her first ever boyfriend was unfaithful.
Another man cheated on her while on the Peter Pan Disney ride, and one time a woman even called her to tell her she’d been sleeping with Nicole’s lover.
And when asked if she’d ever been cheated on Paris said: “Every girl has. Guys are a**holes.”
TRAGIC DEATHS
Nicole’s ex-fiance Adam Goldstein passed away from a drug overdose in 2009[/caption]
The ladies have faced multiple losses in their lives, including the deaths of two significant exes, as well as a beloved mutual friend.
Nicole and Paris were devastated to lose pal Casey Johnson, heiress to the Johnson & Johnson empire, in 2010 due to complications with diabetes.
Casey had been the original choice to join Paris on The Simple Life but turned the offer down, leaving the door open for Nicole to step in.
Paris said at the time, “I feel like I’ve lost a sister.”
In 2009, Nicole was stunned when her ex-fiance, Adam Goldstein, known as DJ AM, died from a drugs overdose.
Just a year earlier Adam, who had also appeared on The Simple Life, had survived a plane crash which killed four other people.
Paris dated the late Aaron Carter, brother of the Backstreet Boys’ Nick, from 2003 to 2004[/caption]
Paris then lost her ex, Aaron Carter in 2022, when he accidentally drowned in a bathtub.
Years earlier Aaron had blasted Paris, who he dated from 2003-2004, as a bad influence.
“’Paris was the worst person in the world for me to hook up with,” he said.
“She fed my worst impulses as far as partying.”
LEGAL TROUBLES
Both Nicole and Paris have been on the wrong side of the law over the years as they struggled with drink and drugs[/caption]
Thanks to their history of drink and drugs, Nicole and Paris have been in trouble with the law more than once, with Paris even getting locked up for three weeks in LA County jail.
In 2006, she was arrested for driving under the influence, and when she did it again, was given a three year probation.
When she was caught driving at 70mph in a 30mph zone shortly after, she was hauled off to prison for a 45 day stay for probation violation – she managed three and a half weeks.
“It was a very traumatic experience,” she said of prison, which saw her locked up for 23 hours a day next to a toilet.
However, it didn’t stop her getting arrested again, for drug possession in 2010, which resulted in a fine and a year’s probation.
In 2002, Nicole was arrested following a brawl outside a nightclub and was then cuffed in 2006, after failing a sobriety test while driving.
She was sentenced to four days in jail, but served just 82 minutes.
Nicole was arrested again for DUI in 2012, but no drugs were found in her car.
Paris and Nicole reunited to film a three-part reboot of The Simple Life earlier this year[/caption]

TRIBUTES have been paid to a “cheeky” five-year-old boy who was found dead at home.
Policeswooped on a home in South Ockendon, Essex, on Sunday afternoon following a concern for welfare.
A woman was arrested on suspicion of murder[/caption]
Tragically, Lincoln Button was found declared dead shortly after the horror.
A woman was taken to hospital but has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Tributes have now flooded in for Lincoln – known as “Link” – by his devastated family.
They said: “Link was a cherished, loved, sweet, beautiful young soul who was adored by all and will be sorely missed every day.”
Bonnygate Primary School, where Lincoln was a Year 1 student, also paid tribute to the “cheeky, smiley, happy boy”.
It added: “His love for school, laughter and cuddles will be remembered and missed dearly.
“The school is working closely with the authorities and is being supported by Thurrock Council’s education team, who offer support and advice to schools over sensitive issues.
“The school’s priority is to support those within the community who need help to come to terms with this tragic loss.”
Essex Police previously confirmed they are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the horror.
Detective Chief Inspector Alan Blakesley, who is leading the Essex Police investigation, said: “This remains an extremely sensitive and complex investigation which we are carrying out with the care, compassion and professionalism that I know Lincoln’s family – and the wider public – would expect.
“Those involved are continuing to work around the clock to ensure that we understand the full circumstances of what happened in the lead up to Lincoln’s death on Sunday.
6 days agoUSA UpdateComments Off on Former BBC presenter reveals heartache of SPOTY axe in ‘most painful phone call ever’ before confirming shock return
PRESENTER Jake Humphrey has revealed his heartache at being axed from BBC Sports Personality of the Year in a “painful phone call”.
Taking to Instagram, Humphrey wrote that he was told over the phone that he would no longer be presenting SPOTY following his move to BT in 2012.
Jake Humphrey presented SPOTY on the BBC in 2011[/caption]
He had a dressing room next to Gary Lineker[/caption]
He was told he could no longer present the awards show after he left for BT[/caption]
Humphrey, 46, said that while he understood the BBC‘s decision, it “stung deeply” as hosting the show had been the pinnacle of his professional career.
In the post, he reminisced about preparing for the show alongside fellow sports TV stars Sue Barker and Gary Lineker.
Humphrey said he made “cherished memories” preparing for and presenting the annual awards show.
This year, the BBC asked Whisper TV, the production company he co-founded, to produce this year’s show.
He insisted this experience reminded him that “unexpected opportunities can arise” and that “funny things can happen”.
The lengthy post was accompanied with pictures of his time at SPOTY in 2011.
This included a snap of one of his queue cards and a picture of his changing room next to Lineker’s own.
He wrote: “Let me tell you about one of the most painful phone calls I’ve ever had.
“It was late 2012 and the call was to tell me that I wasn’t going to present Sports Personality Of The Year.
“I’d hosted the previous 4 editions of the show, but my imminent departure to BT Sport meant I was being removed as presenter.
“I understood the BBC’s decision, but it stung. It stung because hosting that show was the greatest honour of my professional career.
“I’ve added a few photos – apologies for the quality but camera phones weren’t great over a decade ago!
“I’ll never forget the pride of hanging my clothes up in the dressing room, collecting my pass, rehearsing the show with Sue Barker, or having a dressing room next to Gary Lineker.
“For me, SPOTY was the peak. Every year it was on as a kid, it was The one show at BBC Sport that stood above all others and being asked to host it was a true honour.
“I was walking in the footsteps of previous hosts Jimmy Hill, Des Lynham and David Coleman.
“I was just the 15th presenter in 54 years and as I walked out to host my first in 2008 it was at a packed Echo Arena in Liverpool.
“Sporting royalty, a-list celebrities and even my parents were staring back at me. The nerves were VERY real.
“When I got that phone call almost exactly 12 years ago, I thought my relationship with the show was over forever.
“Then, this year the phone rang again. It was the BBC asking the production company I co-founded, Whisper TV, if we’d produce the 2024 edition.
“I was blown away. A business started by the brilliant Sunil Patel, David Coulthard and I, in our back bedrooms, was going to get the chance to produce the big one. A massive responsibility.
“Tonight at 7pm I’ll be excitedly watching as the best production company in the business, one of the fastest growing companies in Europe, produces Sports Personality Of The Year for you at home.
“And for all of us it’s a reminder that we sometimes think a door is shut on us for good, but you never truly know what others will open in the future.
“Live a life of ambitious exploration and funny things can happen. Enjoy the show.”

It may be small in size, but Wales packs a mighty punch when it comes to looks, attractions and family-friendly appeal.
Expect everything from ancient castles and market towns to rugged world-class coastlines and gorgeous green valleys.
Caswell Bay, a gently sloping beach located on the south Gower Coast, that regularly achieves Blue Flag status[/caption]
Most residents live in the southern quarter of the country, where you’ll find the seaport cities of Cardiff and Swansea, as well as the dramatically beautiful Pembrokeshire and Glamorgan coasts.
Meanwhile, North Wales boasts Snowdonia as its crowning glory, plus plunging waterfalls (try Swallow, Aber and Conwy Falls) and the Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno.
With more than 150 miles of coastline, you’ll be spoilt for choice for everything from pebbly bays with a secret feel, to vast swathes of sand that are dog-walking heaven.
The quality of the beaches are excellent, with 21 super clean Blue Flag beaches, including Prestatyn in North Wales, Borth in Mid Wales and Trecco Bay Porthcawl in South Wales – all right by our £9.50 Holiday parks.
For families, Wales has ample safe, sheltered beaches for rock pooling and sandcastle building, while adrenaline-seekers can try a host of activities, from stand-up paddleboarding to kitesurfing.
Anyone keen to explore Wales’ rich history should make a beeline for a museum like St Fagans, where you can step back in time in the traditional village, and get hands-on with artisanal crafts like breadmaking.
Alternatively, there are some 600 castles to choose from including Castell Conwy, which was used as a hideout for King Richard II before his execution.
Or perhaps you’re keen to peep inside a castle you recognise from the TV, like Gwrych Castle where I’m A Celeb was filmed.
As well as historic attractions, you’ll want to check out Wales’ natural attractions, whether that’s the sheer force of waterfalls or the submerged forest dating back to the Bronze Age at Borth Beach.
For a family-friendly day out that’s not too far from your £9.50 Holiday base, you could spark your kids’ curiosity at an engaging museum like Techniquest in Cardiff.
Or how about letting them up the ante nearby at the Aqua Park? This water park is perfect for older kids needing to burn off energy, but you’ll also find options for younger ones, from zoos to adventure parks.

Of course, all this activity will require some serious refuelling – and if you’re away from your holiday park for the day, there are fantastic food and drink options.
From cheap eats and local pubs, to sea view restaurants and ice cream parlours, there’s plenty to tuck into.
Don’t leave Wales without sampling some of its most famous dishes, like rarebit (“posh cheese on toast”), Bara brith (fruit loaf, a tea-time treat) and traditional Welsh cakes (best sampled straight from the griddle).
