‘That would be something’ – Francis Ngannou’s coach opens door to boxing fight ‘everybody wanted to see in first place’

FRANCIS NGANNOU may still have one more boxing fight in him – and it’s the one “everybody wanted to see in first place.”

Ngannou put his MMA career on hold in 2023 to cross over and pursue his lifelong ambition of boxing.

Last October, he sensationally floored former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury, 36, only to lose a controversial decision.

He then returned to the ring to face Anthony Joshua, 35, in March but was knocked out in two rounds.

Ngannou, 38, shared the ring with the British pair after overlooking American Deontay Wilder, 38.

The two humongous hitters were in talks with even a two-fight deal in boxing and MMA touted.

And Ngannou’s striking coach Dewey Cooper is still interested in the bout – after fans demanded it in the past.

Cooper told SunSport: “A fight with Deontay Wilder? That’s the fight everybody wanted to see in the first place.

“Two hard punchers, totally opposite personalties that would be something.

“Whatever Francis Ngannou, whatever His Excellency Turki Alalshikh wants to do with Riyadh Season and boxing, if he’s with it, I’m with it.

“I have no expectation, whoever it is if it happens again we’re going to work hard and do our best to solidly a final victory for the record book.”

Ngannou now returns to MMA with the Professional Fighters League after walking out on the UFC.

He faces 6ft 8in Brazilian Renan Ferreira, 34, in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

Wilder meanwhile is in career crisis following points defeat to Joseph Parker, 32, in December and a brutal KO against Zhilei Zhang, 41, in June.

And Cooper reckons stepping into the ring with Ngannou could bring an official and brutal end to Wilder’s glittering boxing career.

The trainer said: “I’m sure if he were to lose that would be the final nail in the coffin but a fighter knows when it’s time, spiritually, emotionally, mentally, physiologically.

“If Deontay Wilder still wants to do it, he definitely should. We’re so judgemental, so biased, when he was knocking everybody out at 40-something and 0 with 40-something knockouts, we all thought he was the best thing since sliced bread.

“A guy has a few bad fights and the whole world turns against him. We learned this with Anthony Joshua, I remember he lost to Oleksandr Usyk everybody said it’s over.

“Then he went on a great run and climbed back to the top of the world.

“So, whatever a fighter wants to do, as long as he’s taking his health into consideration, his family and his wellbeing into consideration.

“So if Deontay Wilder wants to continue fighting, he definitely should.”

The case of Rex Groves is about a man who killed his own grandmother.

Speaking in the Netflix documentary he said: “I felt nothing, it didn’t bother me.”

“I remember thinking, ‘I just killed somebody, it’s not a big deal, it’s just a body.'”

However, he admitted this state of mind was due to the fact he was heavily under the influence of drugs.

My grandmother came outside, and as soon as she looked at me, I shot her. The first thing that went through my mind was, ‘I f*****d up.’

Christian Sims

Groves was initially intending to kill his father, and went to his grandmother’s to “calm down” as her home was his “safe haven”.

But in a state of paranoia, fuelled by drugs, he stabbed his grandmother to death with a pair of scissors.

In 2009, Groves was handed a 65 year sentence for his crime.

Americans to get check up to $7.5k in line with $18.5m data breach settlement – all you need is bank statement

AMERICANS could be eligible for a chunk of a multi-million dollar settlement after a medical provider was targeted by hackers.

Up to $7,500 from a $18.5 million payout is available to eligible claimants but the deadline to apply is looming.

Getty
The time left to apply for a chunk of the cash is looming (stock image)[/caption]

It comes after East River Medical Imaging was part of a class action lawsuit in New York following a data breach.

The medical provider was allegedly targeted by hackers between August and September 2023.

Subsequently, personal patient information was accessed and class members have accused East River Medical of failing to protect their private data.

The complaint claims that some of the sensitive data that was stolen including insurance information, social security numbers, contact details and even procedure information and imaging results.

It is claimed in the lawsuit that the radiology centre could have prevented the breach from taking place by having higher digital security in place.

While East River Medical has not admitted any wrongdoing, it has agreed to settle the claims in the lawsuit to bring an end to litigation.

COMPENSATION

Anyone who had their data compromised in this breach and those who received a data breach notification of the incident is able to apply for the cash.

Eligible claimants can choose to receive their compensation via expense reimbursement or a pro rata cash payment.

Those who choose the former can get up to $7,500 for database-related losses like bank fees, damages caused by fraud or identity theft, and the cost of hiring professional services.

To claim this type of compensation, class members will have to prove their losses with bank statements, receipts, invoices, or other documents showing expenses related to the breach.

Meanwhile, those who do not have such proof or who do not wish to claim reimbursement can opt for the pro rata cash payment.

This will be a standard payment made from the leftover of the settlement fund after all other claims have been made.

In addition to either of these payments, all claimants will also be given access to three-bureau credit monitoring for one year to help detect fraud.

KEY DATES

However, the time remaining to file a claim is running out with one deadline already having passed.

What's a class-action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or 'classes,' a way to band together in court.

These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.

When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.

These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company’s doorstep.

On October 22, the portal to submit a valid claim form will close, meaning there are just days left to get an application together.

All class members were given until August 23 to exclude themselves from the settlement payout or object to terms in the agreement.

If claimants failed to do this and miss the deadline to apply to part of the settlement fund, will miss out on receiving any cash or credit monitoring benefits.

Those who excluded themselves promptly will have retained their legal rights to take the radiology centre to court in the future over the same claims, should they wish to do so.

All valid claims can be submitted on the settlement website here.

Meanwhile, a mall retailer is paying out over $12 million amid claims of false advertising.
