ALMOST 1,000 mysterious objects have been reported flying over the US in the past few weeks – with some of them reportedly being the size SUVs.
Officials revealed there were at least 964 unmanned aircraft systems sightings – with almost 200 of them reported on a single night.
Hysteria and conspiracy theories swept the country as these sightings began on November 19.
Large, glowing objects were seen hovering over homes and even military bases.
Many residents have reported the mysterious fighters were the size of mini-SUV – and that they hover extremely close to the grounds with flashing lights.
Some of these objects were also seen flying in clusters, almost like a swarm of drones.
Out of the nearly 1,000 sightings, 243 were recorded in suburban Hunterdon County.
Almost 170 sightings were reported in Somerset County, with Bergen County next at 75 reports.
Sixty-three sightings were recorded in Monmouth County and 59 were reported over Union County.
Suspected sightings have been reported in other East Coast states including New York, and Pennsylvania.
The worrying unidentified flying objects have even been spotted above a space site in California and a military air base in Virginia, near Washington D.C.
Some officials from the federal government said these sightings are actually manned aircraft such as choppers or single-engine planes that were misidentified, The New York Post reports.
The Pentagon and FBI have claimed there is no threat to the public but have been unable to explain the bizarre phenomena.
There are also chances that these could rather be big drones, as used in the military or commercial activities like agriculture.
But elected officials in New Jersey and New York have called for a more robust investigation.
A New Jersey mayor fueled panic after he revealed his fire department was briefed by state officials to wear hazmat suits in case these mystery objects crash down to earth.
Belleville Mayor Michael Melham revealed the shocking update on Friday.
“That guidance does say two different things: First of all if there is a downed drone in our vicinity, we are immediately to call the bomb squad of our county,” Melham said on Fox News.
“And second, our fire department has been instructed to make sure they wear hazmat suits.”
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy also called on Biden to be more proactive on this issue.
He said: “New Jersey residents deserve more concrete information about these UAS sightings and what is causing them.
“I respectfully urge you to continue to direct the federal agencies involved to work together until they uncover answers as to what is behind the UAS sightings.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump launched his scathing attack on Biden and offered his solution to the problem, in a post on Truth Social.
“Mystery drone sightings all over the country,” the President-elect wrote.
“Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge? I don’t think so!Let the public know, and now.
“Otherwise, shoot them down!”
Jeff Van Drew, a Republican Representative of New Jersey, accused the Pentagon of hiding the truth about the mysterious drones from the American public.
An Iranian ship was reportedly spotted off the New Jersey shore, the day before the apparent drone sightings began happening.
Van Drew launched a wild claim that these mystery objects were being sent from the supposed Iranian vessel, citing “high sources”.
“Iran launched a mothership probably about a month ago that contains these drones,” Van Drew said.
“That mothership is off… the East Coast of the United States of America. They’ve launched drones into everything that we can see or hear.
“And again, these are from high sources. I don’t say this lightly.”
The congressman echoed Trump’s statement and called for the flying objects to be “shot down”.
The Pentagon refuted Van Drew’s claims and said there was no evidence of an Iranian vessel.
HOPEFUL Syrian residents are returning home to a city flooded with the haunting memories of Bashar al-Assad’s reign of horror.
Homs has been given the chilling title of the city that “broke the limits of barbarity” when Assad and his cronies ripped it apart – leaving behind a trail of heartbreak and devastation.
Loyal fighters to the Assad regime seemingly made it their mission to sow havoc across Homs more than a decade ago.
They tactically ripped apart the resistant rebels who had made the area their stronghold.
It soon became Assad’s hellish hub for his most despicable war crimes with years of massacre, starvation, rape and torture all reported.
Residents were forced to quickly flee in huge droves as the military moved in and set their sights on any remaining opposition forces.
Thousands died in the civil conflict between 2011 to 2014 as the Syrian government wrestled control of the city away from the rebels.
Foreign journalists such as brave Marie Colvin and Remi Ochlik were just two of the names ruthlessly assassinated as they reported on Homs.
Terrified civilians were forced to endure daily gunfire overhead as both sides ruthlessly clashed with one another.
France’s former foreign minister, Alain Juppé, once said Assad “broke the limits of barbarity” when he tore Homs apart.
Human Rights Watch has been at the forefront of trying to expose the horrors for years.
Many people have opened up over the haunting nature of Assad’s often unlawful arrests which saw dozens of people go missing during the Homs invasion.
Government officials would round up groups of civilians and throw them into cells for opposing the Syrian army through peaceful protests, victims say.
Many claim through their own experiences or family member’s stories, that they were then mentally and physically abused through torture methods.
Victims of the Homs barbarity have alleged they were poked with burning metal rods and forced to ensure electric shocks for the pleasure of Assad’s cronies.
Others say they would be left begging for food and water after being detained for weeks.
Human Rights Watch have also spoken to family members of prisoners who claim their loved ones were never heard from again.
Many are feared to have died in captivity.
This brutal and systematic destruction of Homs and its people soon forced thousands to move out and escape the horrors that had engulfed the city.
By this point many of their homes had been obliterated in bomb attacks and mortar strikes.
More than a decade on from the end of the bloody fighting in Homs people are finally starting to return, report the Telegraph.
Assad’s government crumbled in mere days after the rebels launched a surprise offensive on November 27 and swept aside the corrupt and disloyal army.
The dictator fled Syria in total humiliation and gave up his power as he left.
The siege of Damascus, Aleppo and the surrounding areas provided a welcome relief for the people trapped under Assad’s thumb across Syria.
The fall of the regime sparked days of celebration with many rejoicing over getting their country back.
But many of the cities occupied by the government during Assad’s reign were left virtually abandoned and unwanted.
One of the most neglected areas was Homs which is said to have been left looking like a wasteland after the army took control in 2014.
Many of the deserted homes are still unlivable today for those making the bold choice to return to the city.
As piles of rubble left scattered on the streets provide a reminder of Assad and his brutality.
Fadia al-Faraja tried to return home this weekend but found just a heap of ruined rocks where her house once stood.
Alongside her devastated family they were forced to spend the night inside a school which has become a makeshift hostel for many.
Another returning resident, Amina Obeid, has also tried to move back to her family home only to be met with a heartbroken sight.
Amina and her family were pushed into being refugees along with over 100,000 Syrians who went to the Akkar district, northern Lebanon.
They made the tough choice to leave after Amina’s son was shot dead by a sniper.
She ventured back to Homs with her daughter and three-year-old grandson on Sunday to see if they could ever move back.
She told the Telegraph: “When I was in Lebanon I had one dream every day: to come home to Syria.
“I’m so happy to be back but so horrified by the destruction I have seen on the way.”
Amina’s block of flats was still barely intact as she opened up the door and walked inside.
Her son’s tricycle was sat in the centre of the living room exactly where it had been left – simply collecting dust.
Many more returning Syrians are set to face the harrowing memories of what Assad and his men caused all those years ago in the coming weeks.
THE Assad dynasty in Syria began with Hafez al-Assad – who seized power in 1971 through a military coup and established an authoritarian regime.
His rule focused on centralised government control, military strength, suppression of dissent, aligning Syria closely with the Soviet Union, and an anti-Israel stance.
He established a cult of personality and corruption flourished as loyalty to Hafez became the most important value.
Bashar was not the first choice to succeed his father, with his elder son Bassel groomed to take over the role.
Bashar was working as an ophthalmologist at Western Eye Hospital in London when Bassel died in a car crash in 1994.
Suddenly, Bashar became the heir apparent and was called back to Damascus to be groomed for leadership.
He spent six and a half years learning the ropes from his father and working in the military.
Hafez died from a heart attack in 2000 and, with the loyalty of his party, transferred power to Bashar establishing the first Arab dynastic republic.
Initially, there were hopes for liberal reforms under Bashar, but hopes faded as he instead continued his father’s repressive policies.
When protesters rose up in 2011, Assad brutally sought to crush them with harsh violence.
But, he lost the support of many of his people and brought about the Syrian Civil War.
In 2013, the cruel dictator even used chemical weapons on rebel areas as he did anything to stay in power.
The civil war dragged on killing hundreds of thousands, destroying cities, and opening the way for ISIS to flourish.
Eventually, Assad gained the upper hand after Iran sent in Hezbollah crack forces and Russia sent in jets to bomb rebels and mercenary group Wagner to fight them.
It appeared that Assad was on the brink of winning the war earlier this year with the rebels confined to an area in the northwest of the country.
Assad chose not to negotiate with the rebels and instead sought to defeat them completely.
But the rebels launched a surprise offensive on November 27 and swept aside Assad’s corrupt and disloyal army.
After seizing Damascus in a swift and decisive offensive, rebel forces declared victory and announced that the city was “free of Assad.”
The dictator fled Syria in total humiliation – having to issue a statement through the Russians he had resigned the presidency and left the country.
Bashar has now been given refuge in Moscow and is currently under Russian protection.
The collapse of the 54-year-old Assad dynasty ignited celebrations across Syria.
In the capital, thousands poured into the streets, waving rebel flags and lighting flares.
Statues of Assad and his late father, Hafez, were toppled in symbolic acts of defiance.
A FORMER Google boss has warned of the dangers of AI – claiming humans “will not be able to police”.
Ex-CEO of the tech giant Eric Schmidt said when a computer system reaches a point where it can self-improve “we seriously need to think about unplugging it”.
The race to improve artificial intelligence has seen huge strides made in recent years, with Schmidt describing the progress as a cause for celebration.
“I’ve never seen innovation like this,” he told George Stephanopoulos for ABC’s This Week.
Schmidt added: “We’re soon going to be able to have computers running on their own, deciding what they want to do.”
He went on to say: “The power of this intelligence… means that each and every person is going to have the equivalent of a polymath in their pocket.
“We just don’t know what it means to give that kind of power to every individual.”

It comes after Schmidt told AXIOS last year that computers making their own decisions might be less than four years away.
And other experts have said the most powerful systems could operate at the intelligence of a PhD student by 2026.
Schmidt said despite the US continuing to win the AI race, with China’s tech developing quickly it’s crucial “the West wins”.
He also advised that the “worst possible cases” be identified and a parallel system be developed to help monitor the first.
“Humans will not be able to police AI, but AI systems should be able to police AI,” he added.
It comes as an AI technology analyst warned in recent weeks we’re just steps away from cracking the “neural code” that allows machines to consciously learn like humans.

Talks at a federal level are taking place to ensure regulations and protocols can keep the tech at bay.
The emergence and success of ChatGPT since its mainstream introduction in November 2022 have surprised many in the AI field, accelerating the development of the technology immeasurably.
AI expert Rishabh Misra, who has worked on machine learning for X for the past four years, insists he’s “never seen any kind of tech move so fast” and believes once they begin to surpass human-level intelligence, super-powered robots could begin to wreak havoc in society “within the decade”.
Misra told The U.S. Sun: “In the future, as more such capabilities are added, some misconfiguration, irresponsible usage by giving wrong instructions, or involvement of malicious actors could have disastrous consequences, akin to the scenarios where it may seem bots have gone rogue.
“If these bots get hacked or used for harmful purposes, they can spread misinformation or hate speech, launch spam campaigns, manipulate financial markets to crash the economy, or even carry out physical attacks by controlling vehicles or operating weapons.
“They may create deepfakes that show scenarios that never happened to damage someone’s reputation or cause wars.”

With AI bots potentially having the ability in the future to carry out instructions and demands faster than humans, the scope for disrupting economies or inciting hate as part of a political ploy, for example, is huge.
“The frequent fear that comes up is that bots may become self-aware and decide serving humans is not worthwhile,” adds Misra.
“Maybe they will take harmful actions towards humans in an attempt to reach an ultimate goal, ironically supplied by humans themselves.
“Based solely on the current trends of technology advancements, I think the chances of realization of the latter fear might be much more as compared to the former in the future.”

It’s just lines of code simulating a human, so remember that if you’re tempted to pour your heart out to what is little more than a smart app.
Chatbots can be immensely powerful and help you with difficult problems – even personal ones – but keep everything anonymous.
Don’t share specifics about your life, and try to sign up to chatbots with info that doesn’t give away exactly who you are.
It’s especially important not to share info about your job with a chatbot, as you don’t want to land yourself in hot water professionally.
But don’t allow chatbots to build up a picture of who you are, because that could eventually be used against you.
