Arrest of Trump’s ‘third assassin’ shows intense pressure on US authorities after TWO near-deadly blunders, expert says

THE US Secret Service is under immense pressure to protect Donald Trump after a possible third attempt on his life in only four months, an expert told The Sun.

Security specialist Will Geddes said that although the most recent threat to the former president may have been a false alarm – protection in the run-up to the November election is vital.

Will explained: “The greatest level of pressure right now is on the head of the Secret Service.

“It is essential that they are absolutely on their game, and they are fully aware of what is going on, and that they are applying their best practices to the protection of Donald Trump.

“All of us within the security sector, I believe, were not naive enough to believe that the very first assassination attempt on Donald Trump was going to be the very last.

“It was inevitable that we were going to see future or further attacks, and whether this particular instance falls into that category again that has yet to be decided.”

He warned: “The closer we get to those elections in November, the greater the chances are that there will be subsequent attempts on Donald Trump’s life.”

Las Vegas resident Vem Miller, 49, was arrested in California on Saturday just a mile from one of Donald Trump‘s campaign rallies.

Driving an SUV with fake plates and carrying false identification, press cards and two unregistered firearms, Miller was taken into custody.

Riverdale County Sheriff Chad Bianco said he believes Miller intended to kill the Republican presidential candidate and that local police prevented an attack.

Miller has vehemently denied the charges after being released on bail yesterday – insisting he is an avid Trump supporter – and the incident is not being investigated as an attempt on his life.

Just weeks ago another man was charged with attempting to kill the White House nominee after staking him out on a golf course in Florida.

And in July Trump took a bullet to the ear at a rally in Pennsylvania when he was shot at mid-speech.

The Secret Service came under intense scrutiny for failing to spot and prevent shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks from unleashing bullets into the crowd.

Trump’s speech on Saturday at Calhoun Ranch, Riverside County, was delivered from behind a bulletproof glass screen in light of the attempts on his life.

Will said of the Secret Service: “They have already lost face, and they will continue to lose face, should they fail again.

“The Secret Service will have been entirely discredited worldwide, and may even have to be entirely overhauled.”

He explained how this weekend’s incident came down to local police, in this case the Riverside County Sheriff’s department, to intercept Miller – a “suspicious individual”.

“It was the Riverside County sheriff… inevitably it will be a local police department whenever Donald Trump has one of these rallies, who will be providing that outer cordon of security,” Will said.

Miller was arrested about a mile outside of the central rally when police spotted his fake license plates.

Will said: “So how much credit can be given to the Secret Service?

“The Riverside County sheriff’s department were very much on their game.

“Two deputies that identified this vehicle, namely, by a fake registration plate… they then subjected him to a closer scrutiny.”

The security pro added that after looking at Miller’s “social media and his interactions with the Republican party” it could be unlikely that he was planning an attempt on Trump’s life.

Neither the FBI or the Secret Service are looking at the case as an attempted assassination, according to reports, and Miller was released on a bail of $5,000 after one night in custody.

Sources close to the Trump campaign also told US media there had been no assassination attempt at the Coachella rally.

Will said: “[Trump] is seen as the most potentially viable target by any opposing element in removing or eliminating him.

“Inevitably he has to make himself more visible, more public, more in touch and in reach with his electorate, to be able to stand a good opportunity of potentially winning the elections.

“It is important to see that security, whether that be delivered by the Secret Services, or whether it be by the county sheriffs, in whichever country he is holding a rally, are very much on their game, and they are in attendance.

“The Secret Service have not been proven yet to really be, as I would hope to be, fully on their game other than the last recent alleged attempt on the golf course.”

Who is Vem Miller?

Miller was caught at a checkpoint only a mile from the crowds in Coachella on Saturday when cops spotted an “obviously fake” homemade licence plate on his black SUV.

Both weapons were unregistered and Miller was also carrying drivers’ licenses and passports under different names.

He appears to be part of the right-wing, anti-government “Sovereign Citizens” movement which resists the use of number plates and official ID.

The Las Vegas resident has previously shared pictures online with plenty of high-profile figures including former US presidential candidate and Trump supporter Robert Kennedy Jr, actor Dennis Quiad and controversial Canadian professor Dr Jordan Peterson.

He has also posed up with far-right conspiracist and infamous Capitol riot frontman, the QAnon shaman, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage and disgraced comedian Russel Brand.

Miller told Southern California News Group after his release on Sunday: “These accusations are complete b******t.

“I’m an artist, I’m the last person that would cause any violence and harm to anybody.

“I’ve literally never even shot a gun in my life.

“I don’t know anything about guns,” he added.

The Sovereign Citizen movement is an anti-government group widely considered to be based on conspiracy theories about US law.

Members claim they are not subject to any kind of legislation unless they consent, marking themselves as separate or “sovereign” from the government and wider society.

They view most forms of tax as illegitimate and don’t subscribe to Social Security numbers, drivers licenses or vehicle registration.

The FBI has described the group as a domestic terror threat – placing it in the same category as eco-terrorists and animal rights extremists.

Timeline of assassination attempts on Donald Trump's life

July 13 – Thomas Crooks shot Donald Trump in the ear after hiding on a roof overlooking the former President’s outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Crooks was killed by Secret Service snipers after he fired eight shots at Trump and killed one rallygoer and injured two others.

The bullet came less than a quarter of an inch from striking Trump’s head, Ronny Jackson, the former president’s physician, said.

September 15 – Ryan Routh was seen by a Secret Service agent hiding in the bushes with a rifle at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida.

Trump was playing a round of golf when the alleged would-be assassin managed to get within 400 yard of Trump.

Routh fled the scene in an SUV but was caught by cops and arrested.

October 12 – Riverside County Sheriffs believe Vem Miller tried to enter a Trump rally in Coachella, California, with the intention of killing the President.

They stopped him at the perimeter before Trump had even arrived and booked the 49-year-old on two gun charges.

Sheriff Chad Bianco said it would be up to federal officials to investigate Miller for the alleged assassination, but he believed his deputies had stopped a “third assassination attempt”.

Inside Camilla’s fears for ‘exhausting’ Australia tour amid King Charles health news & coping mechanism she relies on

KING Charles and Queen Camilla are preparing to embark on their nine-day tour to Australia this week and have an action-packed itinerary ahead.

While the visit is historic – Charles’ first as reigning monarch – it could be “extremely exhausting” for Camilla who “doesn’t like flying”, according to an expert.

Camilla is said to not love flying and finds trips ‘exhausting’[/caption]

The royal couple will land in Australia on Friday, then head to Samoa on Wednesday October 23, before departing for the UK on Saturday October 26.

Editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine Ingrid Seward told Fabulous: “Queen Camilla is 76.

“She gets very tired because she’s not born to this royal life.

“I know she’s been in it a long time, but she’s not born to it, and I think people sometimes forget that Camilla’s never actually had a job.

“I think she finds these trips extremely exhausting. She doesn’t like flying.

“She’s not a great traveller, and she’s not good in the heat, because you know her, you know, like a lot of women of her age, you know. her feet swell up, and she feels uncomfortable.

“So it’s not the most pleasurable thing to do for her to whisk across to Australia although it might be really exciting for somebody younger.”

Despite the tour being potentially taxing for Queen Camilla, the royal expert claimed she will make it a success.

Ingrid continued: “I don’t think it’s great for her, but she has got a great humour, and she’s absolutely lovely to everybody.

“She’ll take a hairdresser. She’ll take her dresser, Jackie.

“She’ll have plenty of staff around her to help her, and she’s she is just so good humoured that people really like her.

“Even when there’s a dire situation she can turn it around and make and make it much better.

“She’s what we call an upper person.

“She makes the best of any situation, and she can always make it, you know, find some amusement somewhere to cheer everybody up.”

Both King and Queen will start their trip in Sydney on October 18 before heading to capital Canberra three days later for a banquet with senior politicians.

It’ll be Charles’ 17th visit to Australia but his first trip to a Commonwealth nation since becoming King.

It’s also his first visit to Australia since 2018 when he opened the Commonwealth Games on the Queensland Gold Coast.

Tour change

Royal Editor for The Times Kate Mansey said on the Royals with Roya and Kate podcast that the Australia tour will be “different from royal tours of old.”

She said: “In Australia we are not going to see evening functions, there’s no State Dinner in Australia, which is unusual.

“They are paring back for health reasons, so there are no late nights.

“They’ve said he’s pausing his treatment during the tour, so they must be reasonably reassured that he can go that period of time.

“He’s been having treatment for quite some time now, since the beginning of the year, and on medical advice, he can pause it while he’s away and will resume it when he comes back. “This doesn’t mean he’s finished his cancer treatment—there’s been no announcement on that point of view—but it is a sign that he’s perhaps well enough.

“The fact that he’s going is quite a reassuring sign from his doctors and the palace.”

“It’s Sydney and Camberra before we go on to Samoa.”

Kate shared how Charles will meet local Australians, but they have tweaked the name of the traditional “walkabout.”

She explained: “There’s lots of opportunities to meet the public, which is what they’re calling the walkabout.

“They used to be called walkabouts but now because of indigenous sensibilities and the fact that they are used by Aborigines to discuss something more spiritual, going off into the bush, they’re not using the term walkabout.”

Royal snub?

All State Premiers have been invited to the Canberra banquet, but not one has accepted to welcome Charles and Camilla at the reception, it’s reported.

Victoria state Premier Jacinta Allan on Sunday added her name to those that have turned Charles down.

Queensland Premier Steven Miles claims he has work to do on his election campaign.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Western Australia’s Premier, Roger Cook, reportedly said he had “other commitments”.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas has also excused himself due to a regional cabinet meeting, as did New South Wales Premier Chris Minns.

Minns is expected to attend several other events with the King during his time in Australia.

It comes after Charles vowed to not stand in the way if Australia wants to become a republic.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “Like his mother before him, it has always been the case that His Majesty The King feels that it is a matter for the Australian people.”

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese vowed he would not hold a referendum in his first term out of “deep respect” for the late Queen.

Australia last held a referendum on becoming a republic in 1999 in which 54.87 per cent voted against it.

Female cop who joined police to avenge dad murdered when she was 9 ARRESTS killer after tracking him down 25 years later

A DAUGHTER’S mission to get justice for her father’s murder has come to an end after she caught the runaway killer and arrested him.

Gislayne Silva de Deus from Boa Vista in Roraima, Brazil, was just nine years old when her father Givaldo Jose Vicente de Deus, 35, was shot and killed.

The father of five was murdered in February 1999 in the Asa Branca neighbourhood after a fight broke out over a £20 debt.

He was reportedly shot at point-blank range while playing pool with a friend.

Deus was the owner of a supermarket and Raimundo Alves Gomes, who has been convicted of the murder, was one of his suppliers.

According to Silva, her father had offered Alves Gomes a freezer in order to settle the debt, but this was rejected.

The police officer claimed that after this dispute, her father’s killer left the venue and returned half an hour later with a gun.

A fight between the two men ensued during which Deus suffered a fatal gunshot wound despite attempts in hospital to save him.

FIGHT FOR JUSTICE

Silva who vowed to get justice for her father started studying law at the age of 18 before joining the police force where she took up several positions.

The cop admitted to fantasising about the day her father’s killer would serve his sentence behind bars.

“When I was a prison [police officer], I always imagined [the killer] arriving there to serve his sentence,” she told local media.

The determined daughter described her father as an “honest and hard-working man” when speaking to Brazilian news outlet G1.

When I saw the man who was responsible for my dad’s death was finally in handcuffs, I couldn’t hold back the tears.

“My sisters and I went through really difficult times after we lost him,” she added.

Once she was assigned to the General Homicide Division, Silva began tracking down her father’s killer.

Her tireless efforts came to an end last month when Alves Gomes, now 60 years old, was arrested in Boa Vista on September 25, thanks to her dedicated work.

‘GOING TO PAY’

The 36-year-old cop was able to confront her father’s killer face-to-face 25 years after he murdered Deus.

“When I saw the man who was responsible for my dad’s death was finally in handcuffs, I couldn’t hold back the tears,” Silva told G1.

“It was an explosion of feelings that turned into tears of relief, as it seemed like this day would never come.”

Footage from the police station after the arrest showed Alves Gomes leaning back in a chair while Silva calmly spoke to him with her hands clasped in front of her.

“It’s because of me that you are here, and you are now going to pay,” she told the murderer.

He reportedly told cops that he had no intention of killing Deus that day in 1999.

Alves Gomes had previously been arrested for the murder but was released from custody before his trial began.

He was found guilty of the murder in 2013 and went on the run in 2016 when authorities issued a warrant for his arrest.

On September 26, 2024, Alves Gomes’ conviction was upheld by a judge and the killer was sent to prison for 12 years.

With the statute of limitations for homicide defendants in Brazil being 20 years, a seven-year deadline was looming for cops to find and arrest Alves Gomes.

‘With his arrest, I cleansed my soul and that of my entire family. It was the end of a cycle,” Silva told local media.

“Today we have peace and the feeling that justice was served.

“This won’t bring our father back, but [the killer] will serve the sentence he should have served many years ago.”
