I’m a vet – 12 dog breeds I would never own – one is popular with the late Queen Elizabeth but has way too much attitude

A VETERINARIAN has revealed the 12 breeds she would never own after working in the industry for nine years.

Madison Marshall took to social media to spill the tea on the worst dog breeds she’s seen.

Starting off strong, she revealed she would never own a Belgian Malinois as they had ‘amazing scary dog privileges’ and were often nicknamed ‘maligators’.

She also said she’d never own a Cane Corso because they were also ‘scary’ and she said often times they weren’t trained properly so try to ‘eat’ her.

German Shepherd’s also made it onto the list, Madison revealed they may look big and scary but are often times big babies.

Most vets have Huskies on their list of dogs they’d never own and this vet was no different.

She said they constantly scream and that the amount of hair shedding was a nightmare.

Shiba Inu‘s were also on her list as they constantly snap at her and are constantly screaming.

The vet said Australian Shepherd’s were ‘beautiful’ but often struggled around strangers as they only trust their owners.

English Bulldogs were one of Madison’s favourites – but she said that their health issues are a struggle to get past.

While the late Queen Elizabeth was a notorious fan of Corgis, Madison was not.

She said: “Big attitude for little guys, so much hate.

“Why are you so crazy? Chill.”

Cattle dogs weren’t problematic for the vet but she said they are best working as they have so much energy.

Beagles were also not her favourite bread as they were constantly wailing and can often be ‘sassy’.

She added that Frenchies were a ‘genetic nightmare’ while Dachshunds had lots of back problems which ‘terrified’ her.

  10. German Shepherd
    • Admired for their loyalty and versatility.
    • Commonly used in police and military roles due to their trainability.

The clip went viral on her TikTok account @madison_marshall with over 600k views and over 5,000 likes.

One person wrote: “Corgis are the best dogs EVER!!!!!”

Another commented: “The German Shepherd one is accurate. Ours looks scary but carries a pillow with him constantly because he’s afraid of everything.”

“You’re missing out on the Husky love!! Your loss. I love my Husky Luna. Honestly the best dog ever,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “I have a Husky love her to death but never again.”

“Australian Shepherds are amazing dogs IF they get enough exercise which the majority do not,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “As someone who works in vet med, I too did not want to own a German Shepherd but ended up with one in a rescue situation. Goofiest dog I’ve ever met, and loves people. I got super lucky.”

Si, 57, said he was temped to ‘clear off and never come back’ as he dealt with his grief[/caption]

Now, eight months on, chef and cookbook author Si, 57, has opened up on his grief.

In the immediate aftermath, he told fans the Hairy Bikers was over and admitted it “can’t go on.”

In an emotional interview with The Times he said: “I’ll be honest with you, the past few months have been a struggle.

“More than once I was on the verge of jumping on my bike and heading into the sunset.

“Not tell anyone where I was going. Just clear off and never come back.

“Other times I was raging.

“Raging at that bloody disease, at God and anything else I could think of.”

Talking of the pair’s telly show, which Dave continued to film during his illness, he added to the publication: “Oh God, that last series was by far the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do in my entire life.

“The crew felt it too; some of whom had been with us since the start.

“All of us trying to carry on as normal, trying not to lose it.”

He continued: “Some days it felt quite surreal, as though it wasn’t really happening.

“I just kept thinking: it’s not fair, it’s not bloody fair.”

ALL CHANGE

In June, Si admitted their foodie series couldn’t continue after Dave’s death.

He told how it would not be “respectful” if he were to continue as the Hairy Bikers on his ow.

The Hairy Bikers - Looking back on their career

Dave Myers and Si King, collectively known as the Hairy Bikers, were a popular presenting and cooking duo for 20 years. Sadly, Dave lost his battle with cancer in February 2024. Let's take a look back at the pair's TV journey.

  • The Hairy Bikers Cookbook (2004-2008, BBC Two)
  • The Hairy Bikers’ Food Tour of Britain (2009, BBC Two)
  • Strictly Come Dancing (Dave took part in 2013, BBC One)
  • The Hairy Bikers’ Asian Adventure (2014, BBC Two)
  • The Hairy Bikers: Route 66 (2019, BBC Two)
  • The Hairy Go North (2021, BBC Two)

Speaking to The Guardian, Si said of his next career move: “It can’t be the Hairy Bikers 2.0.

“That’s not going to happen. It wouldn’t be respectful.”

A month later, he left fans in tears as he updated his fans on his trip to France.

He used the term Kingy in his image caption – and fans confessed they couldn’t stop hearing it said in Dave’s voice.

The pair’ first series, The Hairy Bikers‘ Cookbook, ran from 2004 to 2008 on BBC Two.

Follow-up outings included The Hairy Bikers’ Food Tour of Britain, The Hairy Bikers’ Asian Adventure and The Hairy Go North.

In 2013, Dave ventured into the world of dance and reality TV competition.

He competed on that year’s edition of Strictly Come Dancing, alongside the likes of Deborah MeadenRachel Riley and eventual winner Abbey Clancey.

Dave partnered with Venzeulan-American ballroom dancer Karen Hauer, who has since become the show’s longest serving professional performer.

Quarter from 1806 is worth $58,750 at auction – a ‘missing serif’ error on the front makes it so valuable

A RARE 1806 Draped Bust quarter could bring in an astonishing $58,750.

This staggering value comes down to one key detail and coins like this, marked by rare production flaws and fascinating histories, hold value for collectors.

A rare 1806 Draped Bust quarter could be worth $58,750 due to a unique “missing serif” error on the number 1 in the date

Alamy

This coin is already sought-after, boasting a modest mintage of just 206,124 pieces.

What sets this particular example apart is its variety.

Known as the B-3 variety, it’s distinguished by a tiny but significant flaw — the lower-left serif on the number 1 in the date is missing, per Heritage Auctions.

This error, paired with the 12 arrowheads featured on the reverse of the coin, makes it one of the most coveted pieces from the early 19th century.

Coin specialists like Steve Tompkins, who have cataloged early American coins in immense detail, have ranked this B-3 variety as one of the finest examples of its kind.

In fact, only one other coin has ever received a higher grade from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.

This specific quarter ranks MS65, meaning it’s in near-perfect condition despite being more than 200 years old.

COMPLICATED HISTORY

The story of how the B-3 variety came to exist is fascinating. Both the obverse (front) and reverse (back) dies used to mint this quarter were also used for other varieties.

For example, the obverse die also struck coins in the B-2 variety, while the reverse die worked for the B-4 variety.

After the B-4 coins were made, the same dies were paired again to create more B-3 quarters, an event known as a “remarriage” of the dies.

Documenting these remarriages is no small task. It requires experts to closely examine multiple versions of each variety, identifying tiny differences in how the coins were struck.

In this case, the final run of B-3 quarters, such as the one that might fetch $58,750, represents a significant piece of numismatic history.

WHY CONDITION MATTERS

The value of any rare coin depends on its condition, and this 1806 quarter is no exception.

This particular coin is not just rare because of its B-3 variety but also due to its remarkable preservation.

How coins are graded

Coins are graded on a scale of one to 70, with one being the poorest grade, and 70 being the most pristine example.

Numbers 60 to 70 are generally the most sought-after by collectors and are known as Mint State coins.

Pieces that fetch thousands at auction are commonly found in MS67, MS68, and MS69 conditions.

An MS-70 is near-impossible to find among older coins.

The coin’s surface is frosty and highly lustrous, with only a few minor imperfections, such as a small impurity on the obverse rim.

A coin in this condition is incredibly rare, making it even more desirable to collectors. It also features faint traces of champagne toning, a subtle coloring effect that adds to its visual appeal.

While there is some weakness in the strike near the lower part of the obverse and the upper part of the reverse, these details do not detract from its overall value.

This quarter has a rich auction history, having passed through several significant collections over the years.

Some notable sales include:

  • The ANA Signature auction in 1997
  • The Richard Jewell Collection in 2005
  • The FUN Signature auction in 2009

Each time, the coin has gained more recognition and admiration among collectors.

Its journey through the hands of dedicated numismatists only adds to its allure.

Weighing 6.74 grams, this quarter is composed of 89.24% silver and 10.76% copper, standard for its time.

With its rich history, rare die varieties, and unique error, this 1806 Draped Bust quarter is truly a gem.

From eerie doorways to a floating spoon – six mysterious sightings on Mars revealed

NASA has been exploring Mars from afar for decades and over time all sorts of odd and unexpected sightings have been made.

Today, the space agency is still looking for possible signs of alien life on the mysterious Red Planet.

Objects like this mystery cylinder have been spotted on Mars[/caption]

Conspiracy theorists were convinced this is a statue belonging to aliens[/caption]

And plans are being made to finally put boots of astronauts on Mars as early as the 2030s.

The Mariner 4 flyby bot made history in 1965 taking the first photos of another planet from space.

Since then, technology has evolved massively and rovers have been roaming on the surface of Mars and sending back important data hundreds of millions of miles away – and high quality photos.

We’ve gathered some of objects and more spotted on the Red Planet over the years…

The mysterious “doorway”

a black and white photo of rocks and sand
Nasa/JPL-Caltech
The entrance to ET’s temple? Perhaps not[/caption]

The internet went into frenzy in May 2022 after spotting what looked like a doorway on Mars’ surface.

It led to all sorts of wild theories, including that it might be home to aliens – or even a secret extra-terrestrial temple.

However, experts quickly came out to dismiss the idea revealing that what appears to be a door is more likely natural erosion of the rocks.

A “crashed UFO”

Nasa/JPL-Caltech
Is that a crashed UFO flying saucer?[/caption]

It was hard to miss this apparent wreckage spotted by Nasa.

You would be forgiven for thinking it was debris from a crashed UFO with the saucer-like shape.

Instead, the source was a bit closer to home – Nasa itself.

The debris is part of the parachute and backshell used to safely land the Ingenuity Mars helicopter onto the planet in February 2021.

The “floating spoon”

a close up of a rock formation in the desert
Nasa/JPL-Caltech
Not quite a floating spoon…[/caption]

Another apparent object on the surface of Mars to catch people’s attention was what looked like a spoon.

But to make matters even more eerie, it seemed as through the Earth-like cutlery was floating too.

Alas, it was once again an optical illusion created by the shape of the rocks and angle the photo was taken.

The “spaghetti monster

a close up of a rock and a worm on a sandy surface
Scientists were initially left scratching their heads over the discovery
NASA/JPL-Caltech

A strange spaghetti-like object left scientists baffled in 2022.

Nasa came out to reveal that it was actually netting.

However, netting is not something you expect to stumble across on Mars.

Nasa’s hardware team believe it’s from the Perseverance rover’s landing on the Red Planet in February 2021.

“This particular piece of netting appears to have undergone significant unraveling/shredding, suggesting that it was subjected to strong forces,” Nasa said.

The “statue”

a red circle in the middle of a desert
NASA/JPL-Caltech
Not quite a statue…[/caption]

Another shot from Mars convinced conspiracy theories that there was a statue of a woman made by aliens.

Once again, it was nothing more than rock.

The “cylinder”

NASA
Nope – it belongs to Nasa[/caption]

A strange cylinder-like piece was captured in a shot taken by Nasa’s Perseverance rover which some believed might be an artefact belonging to an ancient civilisation.

It turned out the intriguing item actually belongs to Nasa.

The piece is a so-called “launch abrasion bit”.

Mars facts

Here's what you need to know about the Red Planet...

  • Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun
  • It is named after the Roman god of war
  • The landmass of Mars is very similar to Earth but due to the difference in gravity you could jump three times higher there than you can here
  • Mars is mountainous and hosts the tallest mountain known in the Solar System called Olympus Mons, which is three times higher than Everest
  • Mars is considered to be the second most habitable planet after Earth
  • It takes the planet 687 Earth days to orbit the Sun
  • So far, there has been 39 missions to Mars but only 16 of these have been successful

I exposed a mom of 2 who faked cancer diagnosis for 7 years & scammed $105k in donations – she didn’t even want the cash

A MOM’S wicked scam, where she faked a cancer diagnosis for seven years and swindled $105,000 from donors, was never about money but rather a desire for attention, an investigative journalist has said.

Beginning in 2012, Amanda Riley used her online blog to document her seemingly long battle with cancer and slowly began manipulating her community, friends, and family.

Amanda Riley fabricated a fake cancer diagnosis on her online blog and swindled over $100,000 from donors between 2012 and 2019

British investigative reporter Charlie Webster unraveled Amanda Riley’s web of lies in the podcast Scamanda
Instagram/charliewebster

Riley, a mom of two from San Jose, California, claimed to her blog followers that she had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and used her platform to fundraise for her phony treatment.

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a rare cancer that affects the lymphatic system, which is part of the body’s immune system.

SCAMANDA

Riley flooded her blog, Support Amanda, with photos of herself in hospital beds, hooked up to IVs, and pictures of all the medications she had been prescribed.

She kept her online community informed of her latest health updates, including when she was in remission and when her cancer had supposedly returned.

Riley went to extreme lengths to safeguard her claims, including shaving her head, falsifying medical records, and forging physicians’ letters, among other acts.

She organized several in-person events at her local Christian church in San Jose to raise money for her bogus cancer treatments.

Her seemingly courageous battles with cancer inspired her church community to the point where her supporters praised her as “God’s gift.”

This is a really deep, subtle manipulation.

Charlie Webster.

Journalist Charlie Webster, who, along with producer Nancy Moscatiello, unraveled the web of lies in the podcast Scamanda, recalled to The U.S. Sun Riley’s cunning facades.

“This is a really deep, subtle manipulation,” Webster said.

“I think it’s very hard to see because if you question somebody that’s got cancer, that’s in front of you, showing you that she’s got cancer. She didn’t just sit behind a keyboard.

“She did the thing that showed what cancer looked like. She went to hospitals, she had IVs in her arms.”

Webster described getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse into Riley’s community, including the dozens of supporters who donated thousands at her fundraisers and to her online website.

“People were being very hurt, and they were scared of Amanda, really scared,” she said.

“I spent some time, and I found out who was a part of Amanda’s community and friendship, and I had to be really careful because, at this time, some people still believed Amanda.

“People believed Amanda right up until the sentencing day, and sometimes I was speaking to people, and they really didn’t know what I knew. They really didn’t know she was faking cancer.”

One victim, Rebecca Cathero, donated over $30,000 to Riley’s cause, but according to Webster, it was the tip of the iceberg of how much was contributed.

Amanda Riley would keep her online community informed of her latest health updates by sharing photos of her hooked up to IVs
ABC

‘NONEXISTENT MEDICAL CONDITION’

“[Cathero] gave her flights, her points on flights – she signed Amanda up for these nutrition websites every month so she can get a free range of Rebecca’s account,” she told The U.S. Sun.

“[Amanda] could spend as much as she wanted every money. The justice system got Amanda for wire fraud, but only for the money that was donated through her website.

“So, imagine what it must be if you include everything else, and cash. None of that, cash, checks, all of these things that weren’t directly through the website weren’t counted.”

Riley’s seven-year scheme came crashing down in 2020 when the IRS’ criminal division began investigating her story after it garnered attention on social media.

“Riley carefully cultivated a social media presence, using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and a blog,” the Justice Department said in May 2022.

“She used her presence on these sites to ‘document’ her nonexistent medical condition, and to aggressively solicit donations, supposedly to cover her medical expenses.

“In truth, Riley had no medical expenses. The donations she received were deposited into her personal bank accounts and used to pay her living expenses.”

The Department of Justice said at least 349 people and entities contributed to Riley’s fabricated medical expenses between 2012 and 2019, totaling $105,513.

“And [Amanda] did say to me, ‘Look at where I’m at now. If I would’ve just stopped, but now I have lost everything. Look at me now.’

Charlie Webster.

On May 3, 2022, Riley was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud.

Charlie Webster, who covered Riley’s trial in 2021, has kept in touch with Riley since being incarcerated.

Webster told The U.S. Sun that Riley is remorseful about what she did and admits it was “something that got carried away.”

“[Amanda] has opened up to me over this period of time, and she’s said to me that she is sorry,” Webster said.

“She was extremely upset about what she’s done, that she regrets it, and that she’s sorry and she’s accountable.

“[Amanda] said that she wants to serve her time, and she takes the sentence and responsibility, and the punishment, and she wants to try and mend things with her children, be a mom, and try to figure out how to work through this.

“She has told me that this is something that got carried away and she tried to stop, but she was worried about everybody finding out, and people hating her, and her losing everything.

“And she did say to me, ‘But look at where I’m at now. If I would’ve just stopped, but now I have lost everything. Look at me now.’”

From everything and from everybody’s testimony and from speaking to Amanda, I believe, and from what Amanda’s told me and everybody else, it wasn’t about the money.

Charlie Webster.

Webster believes the root cause of Riley’s scheme began during her childhood, and for her, it was never about money.

“One of my big questions was why and how did this happened. I looked into her childhood, I spoke to many friends of hers from childhood to try to understand what she was like and is this something that came from a younger age,” Webster said.

“From everybody I spoke to, they all said there was a need for attention when [Amanda] was younger.

“There was these small white lies. One of her childhood friends also said [Amanda’s] bedroom was filled with tiaras, and these trophies from dance or from cheer [cheerleading] or things like that.

“And she kind of sought out attention rather than peer attention, which I think is interesting because, okay, this is something that developed from a young age.

Riley shared photos of her medication on her blog, Support Amanda, where hundreds of donors contributed thousands for her fabricated medical expenses
supportamanda.com

‘THE ANOINTED ONE’

“From everything and from everybody’s testimony and from speaking to Amanda, I believe, and from what Amanda’s told me and everybody else, it wasn’t about the money.

“From everything that I’ve been told and from Amanda it was very much about attention.

“If you think about it, she stood on stage in front of thousands of people from a family Christian community church, and she gave testimony, and people clapped, and people adored her.

“She was like this mini-celebrity. She was even called ‘the anointed one’ at church.

“Imagine the feeling of, ‘Wow, this woman is special,’ she was somebody, and she was actually inspiring people.

“If you listen to her speak, she’s a very good speaker. I could just see that there’s this feeling of ‘I am worth something.’

“For me, it was all about that need, and then it became almost like an addiction, almost like ‘I need more, and people love me,’ and she felt good about herself.”

Riley’s story, as well as those of her victims, will be portrayed on the ABC docuseries Scamanda.

The Scamanda docuseries is expected to premiere on ABC in 2025.

Journalist Charlie Webster believes the root cause of Riley’s scheme began during her childhood

ANDROID owners must turn on these new life-saving tools to lock their phone if it’s snatched by thieving thugs on mopeds.

With more than 200 smartphones being nicked everyday, the urgency for theft protection features on phones is greater than ever.

Google has announced three new theft protection features will stop thugs accessing your private information fast

Up first, is the Theft Detection Lock, powered by AI.

If it senses a fast change in your phone’s movements, suggesting it’s been grabbed, the device will automatically lock down.

This means that if a thug has run off with your phone, they won’t be able to access your private information.

Next up, is the Offline Device Lock.

If a thug disconnects your phone from the internet, causing it to go “offline”, Android will be able to sense something dodgy could be going on.

Especially, if there have been repeated authorisation failures.

If so, it will automatically lock your phone.

The third and final tool “throws you a lifeline if your phone is already gone”, Google says.

It’s called the Remote Lock.

As the name suggests, if you find yourself away from your phone but you need to lock it fast, this feature could “buy you time”.

To access Remote Lock on any device, just put in your phone number and complete a quick security challenge.

Then you can recover your account details, access Find My Device or wipe your device from afar.

Although Find My Device already lets you lock a lost phone, sometimes people forget their passwords in their state of panic.

All three features will be available to Android 10+ owners through a Google Play services update later this year.

It comes after the Home Office revealed overall theft rates from a person have increased by more than a third.

In September, The Sun explained how the Government and the Home Office intend to work with tech firms to tackle crime.

Policing Minister Dame Diana Johnson said: “The Government is determined to do whatever’s necessary to protect people entitled to walk the streets without the threat of robbery.

“Phone companies must ensure any stolen phones can be quickly, easily and permanently disabled, rather than re-registered for sale.”

“If we work together, Government, tech companies and law enforcement can break the business model of the phone thieves and moped gangs who rely on this trade.”
