Florentina Holzinger’s Provocative “Sancta” Opera Shakes Stuttgart with Controversial Themes

Austrian choreographer Florentina Holzinger is known for her no-holds-barred performances, where the lines between dance theatre and burlesque often get blurred. Eighteen theatregoers at Stuttgart’s state opera were so nauseated after viewing a performance that included live piercing, unsimulated sexual intercourse, and profuse amounts of fake and real blood that they needed an intervention by …

‘I cringe when I hear it,’ says Man Utd legend Nicky Butt as he slams Class of 92 and Paul Scholes agrees

MANCHESTER UNITED legends Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes slammed the Class of 92 tag as “cringey”.

Butt, 49, and Scholes, 49, were part of a special generation at United along with fellow greats David Beckham, Ryan Giggs as well as Gary and Phil Neville.

Manchester United legend Nicky Butt revealed the Class of 92 nickname makes him ‘cringe’

Man Utd hero Paul Scholes believes that nickname takes away from all the legends that paved the way for them

They all came through the academy together and were focal points behind the Red Devils dominating during the Premier League’s first two decades, while also standing out in the Champions League.

The United greats have been referred to as the Class of 92 for many years and a documentary was even put together to honour them in 2013.

However, Butt and Scholes revealed they actually don’t like that moniker, with the former even claiming it makes him “cringe”.

The Salford City co-owner agrees and feels the characterisation excludes all the legendary veterans they found and paved the way for them when they were promoted to the senior squad.

Scholes asked Butt on the Football’s Greatest podcast: “Did you like that Nick? I didn’t like that.

Butt responded: “No, I don’t like it”

Scholes followed: “I don’t like it now.”

Butt added: “I cringe when I hear it. But it is what it is. It’s what we’ve been known for since we all came through with Sir Alex Ferguson.

“And yeah, it’s something that I do cringe about and it just becomes something probably bigger than it really was, if I’m honest with you.”

Scholes responded: “Do you know why I feel bad about it? Cause there was like another 10 or 15 of us the same year.”

Butt said: “Yeah. I also think it seems like we were the ones that won it but if it wasn’t for older pros and the more experienced players there would’ve been no Class of 92 I’d say.

“But yeah, a bit cringey for me, but it is what it is and that’s what we’re known for and embrace it, I would say.”

I was fined £589 after clicking wrong button when paying £12.50 ULEZ charge… don’t make the same mistake

A DAD has claimed he was fined £589 for making a simple error when trying to pay the hated £12.50 ULEZ charge.

The unfortunate motorist has allegedly been hounded by debt collectors over a “little admin error”.

Steven Bortone says he was slapped with a penalty notice after driving into the ULEZ area while volunteering at a club in South London.

Under the rules, anyone driving within greater London has to cough up £12.50 a day if their car does not meet strict emissions standards.

Mr Bortone, 40, was adamant that he had paid but received an initial £180 fine within a week of his visit.

Baffled, he checked his bank account and saw that he had, in fact, sent a payment of £12.50 to TfL.

However, he was dismayed to see that he had hit the wrong button while paying and had registered his journey for the wrong day.

And even though he claims that an operator on TfL’s help desk suggested he lodge an appeal as “mistakes happen”, this was repeatedly turned down as the fine grew.

Mr Bortone told The Telegraph: “I called back and forth, and my appeals kept being denied by TfL.

“I need TfL to review my case urgently.

“The payment was taken down wrongly, but I did pay for a day of parking.

“I’ve been so ill and stressed about it.

“I’ve got three kids to pay for.

“I’m just trying to do the best I can.”

Things got even worse as the fine doubled to £360 as the 14-day discount window ran out while his appeal was processed.

The distraught drivers alleged that recovery agents accepted the payment receipt he showed them, but that it was again rejected by TfL and the fine increased once more to £589.

He has since received a letter saying he could potentially have his car repossessed and have a county court judgment against him for “refusing” to pay the fine.

A spokesperson for TfL said: “Mr Bortone did correctly receive a penalty charge notice as he didn’t pay the ULEZ charge for the correct day or within the required period.

“We asked him to provide proof that he paid for the wrong day but received no response to any of our notices, so the fine increased.

“As Mr Bortone did originally attempt to pay the charge, we are happy to settle the case on receipt of the original penalty charge.”

Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes says top manager ‘has quality’ to manage in Premier League as pressure mounts on Ten Hag

BRUNO FERNANDES has hailed a top European manager as having the quality to lead a Premier League side.

The Manchester United star’s comments come with Erik ten Hag‘s future in doubt.

The Red Devils boss has come under scrutiny for the club’s poor start to the season.

Old Trafford chiefs held a meeting earlier this week in which Ten Hag’s future was discussed.

It appears that the club are willing to stick by the former Ajax manager for now, but that has not stopped others from being linked with the post.

The likes of Gareth Southgate, Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel have been touted as potential options.

However, club captain Fernandes has insisted that Sporting Lisbon‘s Ruben Amorim, 39, is capable of succeeding England.

The Portuguese coach has led the club to two titles in his homeland and is well-regarded.

He was believed to be one of the front-runners for the Liverpool and West Ham jobs in the summer before the roles went to Arne Slot and Julen Lopetegui.

Fernandes has suggested that Amorim is “prepared” and full of “quality” as a manager.

He told CNN Portugal: “Since Mr Amorim arrived at Sporting, it has been one of the teams to practice better football.

“They have been consistent, the signings have been right and they are in a very good moment. It’s a very well-prepared team.

“In relation to Amorim, it shows at this moment he is prepared.

“Coaching Sporting and winning championships is not easy, Sporting went 20 years without winning championships and Amorim arrived and has already won two.

“This shows that the work has been done well.

“If he could manage to do the same in England, Spain or anywhere else, you will never know until you get there, but I am sure his qualities are there for everyone to see.”

Fernandes joined Man United from Sporting Lisbon back in January 2020 in a £47million transfer.

Amorim arrived at the club in March of that year as he replaced the sacked Jorge Manuel Rebelo Fernandes.

Nine managers Man Utd considered before keeping Erik ten Hag

ERIK TEN HAG appears to be safe as Man Utd manager, but the Dutchman edged dangerously close to the sack.

Here are nine managers Red Devils chiefs are reported to have considered for the job and what allegedly happened with each.

Gareth Southgate

Enjoys plenty of support among Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos chiefs but made clear he wouldn’t talk to any clubs until after Euro 2024. There is yet to be any suggestion that contact was made with the England boss.

Kieran McKenna

Talks were opened with McKenna’s representatives before the FA Cup final, but the former Man Utd coach opted to sign a new deal with Ipswich after Ten Hag’s Wembley win.

Roberto De Zerbi

Allegedly sounded out before the FA Cup final with salary expectations discussed. But Ineos chiefs concluded ex-Brighton boss was not the right fit for the project.

Thomas Frank

Brentford boss met Man Utd representatives the day before the FA Cup final. The Dane also dined with Ratcliffe, Roy Hodgson and Frank Lampard at the launch of a new Ineos car in February.

Marco Silva

Fulham boss reportedly met Man Utd representatives face-to-face two days before the FA Cup final, around the same time as Ten Hag was conducting his press conference.

Mauricio Pochettino

Fell out of Man Utd’s thinking in the first week of June, despite being a favourite of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Thomas Tuchel

Made a very strong impression and came across well during a Monaco meeting. Personal terms were discussed before the ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss decided to step back from the process.

Ruben Amorim

Sporting boss was discussed by the Man Utd hierarchy but did not make the final reckoning.

Roberto Martinez

Portugal manager was considered in the early stages.

Strictly fans convinced bosses want celebrity eliminated after putting them in ‘death slot’ on fourth live show

STRICTLY fans are convinced that Sarah Hadland is at risk of being eliminated next after being placed in the “death slot” tonight.

The actress, 53, danced the Foxtrot with pro partner Vito Coppola during Saturday’s fourth live show.

An emotional Sarah, who danced to Billie Eilish‘s hit track Birds of a Feather, admitted the song meant a lot to her family and her child.

In her VT, a tearful Sarah said: “It would be really lovely to show how I feel in the dance.”

Sarah then took to the dancefloor to perform the elegant routine – but it received mixed reviews by head judge Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel Horwood.

Shirley said: “The spotting on the spins were flawless, you did it twice. Some nice footwork at the beginning but it didn’t glide.

“I loved the role reversal when you changed from man to lady.

“Foxtrot is a gliding dance, that’s what you need to keep working on when you move into the ballroom dances.”

While Craig said Sarah was “trying too hard” and “attacking the dance”, but did praise her for being a “clean dancer”.

But some fans think Sarah could be the next vulnerable celebrity.

The “death slot” has become known as the second dancing spot on the running order – and least likely to throw up success.

One wrote: “Sarah being put in the death slot is CRIMINAL.”

A second said: “Sarah and Vito will defy the death slot…”

“I feel like they’re gonna chuck Sarah Hadland in the death slot tonight,” a third said.

A fourth commented: “not my beloved Vito and Sarah in the death slot.”

A fifth shared: “Now why’d they put Sarah and Vito in the death slot.”

Another added: “4th week and 4th woman in the death slot… be so fr right now.”

It comes after Toyah Willcox danced in the “death slot” last week and was eliminated in the results show.

It has left fans to suspect that the Beeb secretly wanted to get the 80s pop singer out by giving her the spot.

Writing online, one fan said: “Toyah has the death slot, seems like they want her to go now that she’s made it to Movie Week.”

Another added: “A Samba and Toyah is in the death spot. OH DEAR!”

A third wrote: “Lol @ production doing Toyah and Neil no favours by dumping them in the death slot.”

Before a fourth penned: “Toyah and Neil death slot oh it’s over for them.”

Alex Salmond dead: Nicola Sturgeon pays tribute to former SNP mentor after his sudden death aged 69

NICOLA Sturgeon has paid tribute to her former close ally Alex Salmond after her predecessor as First Minister died on Saturday.

Ms Sturgeon, who was deputy First Minister to Mr Salmond between 2007 and 2014, said she was “shocked and saddened”.

The pair were once close allies but had a major falling out[/caption]

On X, formerly known as Twitter, she wrote: “Obviously, I cannot pretend that the events of the past few years which led to the breakdown of our relationship did not happen, and it would not be right for me to try.

“However, it remains the fact that for many years Alex was an incredibly significant figure in my life. He was my mentor, and for more than a decade we formed one of the most successful partnerships in UK politics.

“Alex modernised the SNP and led us into government for the first time, becoming Scotland’s fourth First Minister and paving the way for the 2014 referendum which took Scotland to the brink of independence.

“He will be remembered for all of that. My thoughts are with Moira, his wider family and his friends.”

The pair were close political allies for several decades but had a major falling out after allegations of sexual harassment were made against Mr Salmond in 2018.

In a two-part BBC documentary released just last month, Mr Salmond said he “seriously” doubted whether he would ever be on speaking terms again with Ms Sturgeon.

He told the broadcaster “A big regret that Nicola and I are no longer on speaking terms, and I seriously doubt if that’s going to improve.

“Now, that’s a great pity because I did indicate that you shouldn’t say anything’s for ever, but that’s the way it looks and that’s just the way it’s going to be.”

Also discussing their relationship in the documentary, Ms Sturgeon said: “One of the hardest things about the breakdown between me and Alex is the fact that so many of the best moments of my life, he is so integral to, and it’s hard now to look back on them with just unallowed pleasure and joy.”

Speaking about their fractured relationship during an Edinburgh Festival Fringe event in 2023, Ms Sturgeon appeared to rule out any prospect of reconciliation.

She told Iain Dale at the event: “I was very close to Alex for a long, long time. We achieved great things together and I’ll always be proud of that.

“I’m not trying to rewrite history here but over recent years he has revealed himself to be somebody that I don’t want to have in my life, I don’t particularly want to have a relationship with.

“We don’t have long on this planet, we’ve got a limited amount of time to spend with people. I want to spend the time I have with people who make me happy and who I like.”

I’m a vet & there’s 5 animals I’d never have as pets  -a popular choice will break the bank with expensive health issues

A VET has revealed five animals that he would never have as a pet, including a popular choice which he said will leave your fearing for your bank account, due to expensive health issues.

TikToker Ben The Vet, (@ben.the.vet) explained that he would never advise anyone to get any of the pets on his list, not because he doesn’t like them, but because of the difficulties owning them pose.

Parrots

First on Ben’s list is parrots, for an unusual reason your probably haven’t thought of.

“Having a parrot means never having a nonstick saucepan again – no joke, when it’s heated, the coating releases a gas which can be fatal to parrots,” he explained.

He added that parrots can be “extremely difficult” as they need lots of space and stimulation.

Mice

Ben revealed that mice only live for one or two years, so it can be difficult to get attached to them.

He shared: “I’ve had lots of guinea pigs over the years, and you grow very attached to them.

“It’s hard enough to say goodbye after four or five years, but for me, a year, as an amount of time to develop a bond with a pet and then have to say goodbye to them, is too short.”

Rabbits

Rabbits are a popular choice for pets for kids, but Ben said that they actually don’t cope well in houses with children.

He revealed that they are naturally very timid, so don’t enjoy being picked up.

He added: “They kick and they fall out your arms from a height onto the floor.

“It’s not unheard of for them to break limb bones and even their spines.”

The vet added that they are also susceptible to health issues, which can lead to expensive vet bills.

“They can be great pets if you invest time in them, but too many people get them put them in the hutch and forget about them,” he said.

Monkeys

Although you may think that nobody has a pet monkey, according to Ben, 5,000 people in the UK own a primate.

Ben revealed that he spent time volunteering at a wildlife sanctuary, and saw many baby monkeys who had been snatched from their mothers, so that they could be sold as pets.

The vet slammed these actions as “sick” and said: “A monkey is an extremely intelligent wild animal – not a domesticated species like cats or dogs.

He added that they have complex needs, and urged Brits not to get one.

Ferrets

Last on Ben’s list is the ferret, which he said are an aqquired taste.

He said: “They are cheeky, funny, entertaining pets, but they are an acquired taste.

“They really do stink and they have nasty bites if they lock onto your hand.”

It’s understood he collapsed after taking ill.

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said: “The sad news of Alex Salmond’s passing today will come as a shock to all who knew him in Scotland, across the U.K and beyond.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time and on behalf of Scottish Labour I offer our sincere condolences to all who will be mourning his loss.

“Alex was a central figure in politics for over three decades and his contribution to the Scottish political landscape can not be overstated.

“It is right that we recognise Alex’s service to our country as First Minister and to the communities he represented as both MP and MSP.”

Former SNP MP Joanna Cherry added: “I am devastated to hear that Alex Salmond has died. He was one of the most talented politicians of his generation, and, by any measure, the finest First Minister our country has had. He changed the face of Scottish politics.

“I shall remember him as an inspiration and a loyal friend. My heartfelt condolences go to Moira, his family, and all who loved him.”

Former First Minister Humza Yousaf wrote: “Alex and I obviously had our differences in the last few years, but there’s no doubt about the enormous contribution he made to Scottish and UK politics.

“As well as helping to transform the SNP into the dominant political force it is today. My condolences to his family and friends.”

Mr Salmond was First Minister of Scotland between 2007 and 2014.

He resigned after failing in his bid to persuade Scots to vote for independence in a referendum in 2014.

He returned to Westminster as MP for Gordon between 2015 and 2017.

Mr Salmond resigned from the SNP in August 2018 after allegations of sexual offences.

During a criminal trial in 2020 he was cleared of 14 sexual assault charges.

Mr Salmond announced he was stepping down the day after Yes lost.

He recalled: “I wasn’t under any pressure to resign but by taking responsibility it cleared the field for the SNP. Those who lost the referendum emerged very quickly as the political winners.”
