Massive petrol station explosion triggers earthquake & throws tanker 1,000ft in inferno killing 4 including 2 kids

A PETROL station has exploded triggering an earthquake and throwing a parked tanker 1,000ft.

At least four people – including two children – have been killed in the enormous blast in Grozny, Russia.

The blistering explosion ripped through a filling station in the city – which is the capital of Russia’s semi-autonomous region Chechnya.

And the explosion was less than a mile from the lavish palace of Putin’s so-called attack dog warlord Ramzan Kadyrov.

Horrifying video showed the enormous explosion – which then hurled a fuel tank 1,000ft towards a high rise block.

Locals claimed the blast was so strong that the ground shook like in an earthquake.

The flaming tanker is believed to have hit victims – including the two children – as it was thrown.

One tanker is believed to have exploded at the Leader filling station – sending the second one hurtling towards onlookers.

The explosion reduced the petrol station to mangled metal and scenes of total destruction.

Footage shows crowds were gathered near the station as it erupted in flames and exploded.

Russian cops have launched an investigation into the explosion.

Since Putin’s war in Ukraine, Vlad’s country has been rocked by dozens of mystery blasts and fires.

Fears of spies and saboteurs run wild throughout Russia – with many being dragged through the courts and sent to gulags.

It is not immediately clear if the explosion was arson or an accident.

Putin’s warlord

Kadyrov said he had taken “personal control” of the crisis.

“A gas tanker exploded at a petrol station in Grozny,” he said.

“As of this moment, four people, including two children, have died.

“At present, the fire has been localised and rescuers are working to remove the rubble.

“The situation is under my personal control.

“An investigative and operational team is working on the site.

“All the circumstances of the incident are being established.

“Without any doubt, all those responsible will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.

“I express my sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims.”

It comes amid signs of new volatility between competing clans in Chechnya.

Warlord Kadyrov, 48, is one of Putin’s closest allies and has sent tens of thousands of troops to his war in Ukraine.

He claimed this week that three Russian politicians including a millionaire senator were plotting to kill him.

He announced a “blood feud” against them, highlighting the bitter daggers-drawn battles inside Putin’s murky empire.

The thuggish Chechen ruler – aka The Don – claimed he had proof of a murder plot against him.

He challenged the trio – Suleiman Kerimov, 58, a Putin-linked senator, plus MPs Rizvan Kurbanov, 63, and Bekkhan Barakhoyev, 51 – to disprove his allegations.

They have denied the plot.

By declaring a blood feud, Kadyrov – also a colonel-general in the Russian national guard – implies the threat of illegal revenge killing against his politician foes.

Widely sanctioned by the West, he is accused of ordering extra-judicial killings inside Russia and abroad.

Kadyrov said of the politicians: “They have their own businesses, and they didn’t just take the business from this woman [Kim], they even ordered me to be killed.”

The three lawmakers are originally from Dagestan and Ingushetia, two Russian republics that border Chechnya.

Chicago Bears defense is key for Caleb Williams to shine, says Super Bowl champ who dominated Patrick Mahomes and Co

SUPER Bowl champion Ndamukong Suh thinks the Chicago Bears defense is the key for rookie Caleb Williams to reach his potential.

Suh, 37, had Patrick Mahomes running for his life in the Super Bowl which the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won three years ago.

Caleb Williams has the hopes of the Chicago Bears franchise resting on his shoulders[/caption]

The former defensive powerhouse knows firsthand the role of the defense in helping a quarterback.

His Buccaneers team sacked Mahomes three times and picked off the Chiefs quarterback twice in a 31-9 Super Bowl domination.

Suh spoke to The Sun in London, where he is working on Sky Sports’ broadcast of the Bears vs Jaguars in the United Kingdom.

And he said, “The Bears defense has been huge.

“They seem to be getting off the field and giving the offense a lot of opportunities to score points.

“It’s about time of possession and opportunities to score.

“But if you can be close to 17 points or below, you’re most likely to win the game and be a top-five defense as well.”

The Bears flew to London for a showdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a 3-2 record.

Chicago’s offense has showed steady improvement through five weeks.

Rookie No. 1 overall pick Williams has grown into his role with offensive weapons Keenan Allen, DJ Moore and Rome Odunze at his disposal.

“Expectations are always going to be high on a No. 1 pick,” Suh admitted.

“But ultimately you’ve got to find your own footing and ultimately be a cornerstone of the organization as you grow into that position and be a true leader at the end of the day.

“You have to understand what’s going on on special teams and offense but I wasn’t in those meeting rooms to have opinions on those different pieces.

“All I could do was positively influence and support the defence.

“You may not be a high-powered offense, but as long as you give the points needed and we’re able to eliminate the points a lot of teams score.”

'Like a marriage'

CHICAGO Bears legend Charles Tillman thinks the relationship between the offense and defense is like a marriage.

Tillman played 11 years for the Bears between 2003 and 2014 and was a two-time Pro Bowler.

He told The Sun, “We know our offense hasn’t been doing their best, they’re learning and a young offense.

The defense has stepped up their game.

“It’s no different that in a relationship or a marriage.

“If one person isn’t doing their part or is sick, the other person has to do a little more to help them out.”

The Bears defense has yet to concede 20 points in a game and been a bedrock for their success.

And Suh had similar experience of being on a team with a high-powered offense when he starred on the Bucs team which Tom Brady led to Super Bowl glory.

“If you want to win a championship, you’ve got to have a great defense,” he declared.

“I think that’s what Tom Brady saw when he came to Tampa.

“Tom made his decision to come to Tampa Bay based on that defense already being in place.

“He plugged in and replaced Jameis Winston with an elite core of wide receivers and great running backs.”

He was accused of the illegal activity while he was president of French rugby club Narbonne from 2015 to 2016.

According to French media reports, the former Wallabies flanker was sentenced on Friday in absentia to five years in prison.

Elsom, 41, was ordered to pay back squandered assets of £586,000 which he embezzled before quitting Narbonne.

He is said to have paid £66,000 to a former coach with no justification.

Elsom also allegedly hired someone from Australia for £6,000 per month – but they did not provide any services to Narbonne.

Australian investment fund FGM had acquired Narbonne in 2011 with Elsom a majority shareholder for the business who briefly turned out for the club at the end of his career in 2014.

The French side – who won the French title in 1936 and 1979 – were put into liquidation in 2018 amid continued financial struggles.

Melbourne-born Elsom started out in rugby league with the Canterbury Bulldogs before switching to rugby union.

He went on to play 75 times for Australia from 2005 to 2011.

Elsom scored 70 points, featured at the 2011 World Cup and even captained the Wallabies 22 times.

The 6ft 5ins second-rower also had a stint with Leinster and was man of the match in the 2009 Heineken Cup final victory against Leicester Tigers.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Elsom revealed he is back in Dublin working as a coach at a school, leaving behind his construction company in Queensland.

He said: “I’m recovering from an injury and this is a good place to be for it.

“I’ve got people there who are very good. They don’t need me at the moment so I’m happy about that.”

Cringe-worthy moment NBA TV star Sam Mitchell reveals co-star’s address on live TV after awkward salary bust-up

SAM MITCHELL revealed Chris Miles’ address on live TV during an awkward salary bust-up.

The NBA TV duo clashed during Friday night’s broadcast in a cringe-inducing back-and-forth.

Miles had initially asked Mitchell about Steve Kerr not receiving a gold medal at the Olympics during the summer.

The Golden State Warriors coach led the USA men’s basketball team to glory in Paris earlier this year.

Mitchell responded by joking: “I guess it just tells you [in] international [play] how they value coaches – not at all.”

However, the former Toronto Raptors head coach was then on the receiving end from Miles.

The host said: “I’m surprised coaches get a pay check for this show. Maybe you should do this pro-bono, my friend.”

His jibe prompted a fiery outburst from Mitchell as he hit back by claiming his salary was “pretty close” to pro-bono.

He also accused Miles of “bragging” about his money and threatened to reveal his home address.

The 61-year-old exclaimed: “I’m sorry, did you rent your beach house out down in Florida during the Hurricane?… How about your town house in Buckhead, [Georgia]?”

Miles was left in shock as Mitchell continued by accusing him of calling him out and “screaming broke and hungry”.

He added: “I know what you have and where you live young fella, so you need to stop.”

The presenter sheepishly called Mitchell a “snitch”, only for him to quip back that he was in fact a “truth teller”.

Finishing his outburst, he said: “You gotta stop messing with me on national TV… Do I need to give out the address? Because you’re not at home right now.”

Their awkward interaction finally ended after almost 90 seconds of tension between the pair.

However, Mitchell then went on to actually reveal Miles’ address in Destin, Florida as he asked: “You have the pool put in yet?”

The former small forward had a 17-year playing career before turning to coaching and becoming an analyst.

During that time, he had spells with both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Indian Pacers.
