Bill Belichick is not the answer for Jacksonville Jaguars, claims MJD as he calls on $200m QB Trevor Lawrence to step up

BILL Belichick is not the answer to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ problems, Maurice Jones-Drew said.

The former New England Patriots head coach is said to be targeting a return to the sidelines next season.

But Jags legend Maurice Jones-Drew told The Sun that he would not be able to wave a magic wand over the franchise.

MJD spoke to SunSport before the Jags finally managed their first win of the season against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday.

They traveled to London for games against the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots with a 1-4 record.

And Jones-Drew, 39, urged his former team to not make a knee-jerk decision with Doug Pederson at head coach.

“I’ve heard the Bill Belichick thing,” he told The Sun. “But I believe there needs to be time.

“I’m not a big fan of “he’s been there two years, he needs to go.”

“You’re never going to win that way – consistency is the key.

“As much as I love Bill Belichick, I think he’s one of the greatest coaches in the game, he hasn’t been that good without Tom Brady.

“You may jump into it and say Bill’s the guy – but what if he’s not the guy?

“And now you’ve set yourself back more years when you’ve had success with Pederson.”

Jones-Drew spent eight years in the league between 2006 and 2014 – seven of them with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He was a three-time Pro Bowler and led the league in rushing yards in 2011.

The Jags started this season 0-4 and there were calls for both head coach Pederson to be fired and quarterback Trevor Lawrence to be benched.

Pederson won the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018 and took up the Jags hot seat in 2022.

Lawrence, meanwhile, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

London calling

The New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings kick off the NFL's annual run of London fixtures.

New York and Minnesota face off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday October 6 at 2.30pm local time – 9.30am ET for fans back home in America.

It is the first of three straight NFL Sundays that begin with an early game live from London.

The following week, Tottenham also plays host to the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Chicago Bears.

And on October 20, the Jags will head across town to Wembley Stadium to take on the New England Patriots.

He signed a five-year contract this summer worth $275 million with $200 million of that guaranteed.

Jacksonville has finished 9-8 in both of Pederson’s seasons in charge.

“Every year is different,” MJD said.

“What you did a couple years ago, winning the Super Bowl, doesn’t translate to the next year.

“Doug Pederson got fired by the Eagles two years after he won the Super Bowl.”

Jones-Drew added, “The quarterback is going to get the blame when things go bad, they’re going to get the praise when things go good, that’s why they get paid all the money.

“You’re getting paid $200 million something dollars – there’s no such thing as too much pressure.

“Lawrence has to show up and be the leader in those times and galvanize the locker room.”

VICTORA Monet is an American singer-songwriter whose career has gone from strength to strength since the release of her her breakthrough hit Jaguar in 2020.

She was pictured kissing UK rapper Stormzy at London’s Heathrow Airport in October 2024 — here’s everything you need to know about her.

Who is Victoria Monet?

Victoria Monet was born on May 1, 1989, in Georgia, US.

She was raised in Sacramento, California, where she discovered her passion for performing arts at a young age.

Victoria started out singing in her church’s youth choir and participating in a city dance team, laying the foundations for her future career.

Her professional journey began in 2008 when she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams.

Victoria’s big break came when she met producer Rodney Jerkins, who included her in a girl group called Purple Reign.

Although the group’s deal with Motown fell through, this setback didn’t deter her.

Instead she pivoted to songwriting, which became her primary source of income while she developed her solo career.

Songwriting success

Victoria’s songwriting prowess quickly gained recognition in the music industry.

She collaborated with a number of high-profile artists including T.I., B.o.B., Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Chloe x Halle, Chris Brown, and Brandy.

However, her most significant songwriting partnership has been with Ariana Grande.

Their collaboration began with Ariana’s 2013 debut album Yours Truly and continued through subsequent albums, culminating in the massive hit Thank U, Next in 2018.

After the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting and Dallas Police shooting, Victoria also worked with Ariana to release Better Days.

Emotions ran high as pair performed the song at the One Love Manchester concert, which was watched by millions.

The song is a hopeful plea for a better world, and contains the lyrics: “I’m praying for the people right outside our window.

“Hoping they find peace at night, just like you and me.”

Solo career and breakthrough

While building her reputation as a songwriter, Victoria simultaneously worked on her solo career.

She released several EPs including Nightmares & Lullabies: Act 1 in 2014 and Life After Love, Pt. 1 & 2 in 2018.

However, it was her 2020 EP Jaguar that marked a turning point, receiving critical acclaim for its innovative production and cohesive storytelling.

Victoria’s career reached new heights with the release of her debut studio album Jaguar II in 2023.

The album became her commercial breakthrough, supported by the hit single On My Mama, which peaked in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100.

Her success led to seven nominations at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in 2024.

She took home three Grammys: Best New Artist, Best R&B Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.

Personal life and motherhood

In 2020, Victoria welcomed her daughter, Hazel.

Hazel has already made history as the youngest Grammy nominee ever at just two, thanks to her laughter featured on her mum’s track Hollywood (2023).

Motherhood has played a significant role in Victoria’s artistic rebirth, giving her new purpose and determination to elevate her career.

Stormzy connection

Victoria was photographed with British rapper Stormzy at London’s Heathrow Airport.

The two were seen embracing and sharing a kiss, sparking speculation about a potential romantic connection.

The Sun’s exclusive pictures show Stormzy, 31, and Victoria, 35, on the evening of Thursday, October 10, 2024.

The 6ft 5in star grinned as he gave Victoria a hug before kissing her on the lips.

An onlooker said: “Both Stormzy and Victoria looked absolutely smitten with each other.

“They kissed and when he hugged her he picked her up in the air.

“It seems like he is in a great place after his split from Maya.

This encounter came just months after Stormzy’s highly publicised split from TV presenter Maya Jama.

In September 2024, Victoria also announced that she had split from her fitness instructor boyfriend John Gaines in late 2023, who whom she shares three-year-old daughter.

How to dramatically cut your streaming bills instantly by changing three habits – I reckon you’ll save hundreds a year

YOUR streaming bills keep going up – but they don’t need to.

I’ve got three easy tricks to bring them down, just in time for those cosy winter movie nights.

a display of netflix shows including stranger things
Netflix is a brilliant TV service but the monthly cost of a top-tier subscription can quickly add up

The Sun’s tech expert Sean Keach has some tips on trimming those monthly TV bills
The Sun

You might find yourself saving hundreds a year.

STREAMING BILL TRICK #1 – FREE TV

The first one might feel a bit odd at first (because you’ll be breaking daily habits) but it’s the simplest way to save money.

Instead of just relying on premium paid-for apps, try some free ones instead.

There are loads of no-cost TV apps out there that are totally legal – so you don’t have to worry about being done for piracy.

Instead they’re funded by showing you ads.

But that might not be a massive pain, given cheap tiers of services like Netflix, Amazon Video, and even Disney+ show you ads already.

And many of these apps have enormous libraries with thousands (or even tens of thousands) of movies and TV episodes.

Often they’ll also feature sizeable rosters of free live TV channels too, streaming around the clock.

Here are some of the more popular free TV apps worth trying:

  • Tubi
  • Amazon Freevee
  • Pluto
  • Plex TV
  • Sling Freestream (US)
  • The Roku Channel

THE ROKU CHANNEL EXPLAINED – FREE TV FOR YOU!

Here's what you need to know

The Roku Channel is a streaming app that’s available on a range of devices.

It offers more than 400 live TV channels.

And it promises over 80,000 movies and TV shows on an on-demand basis.

Roku says that the app is available on:

  • Roku streaming devices
  • Compatible Samsung Smart TVs
  • Compatible Amazon Fire TV devices
  • TheRokuChannel.com website
  • Roku mobile apps (iOS and Android)

Roku notes that the app is only available in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It’s also available in Mexico, but only on Roku devices.

They’re popular apps that should be available on most smart TVs or streaming devices you’re likely to be using.

STREAMING BILL TRICK #2 – STREAM CYCLE

Secondly, please don’t think that you need to totally give up on premium TV to save money.

But it’s worth asking: do you need all of these services at once?

Try cycling through your plans – or “stream swapping – to save a bit of money.

Disney+
Disney+ is amazing – but ask yourself whether you need a subscription all year round[/caption]

So cancel everything, and then keep Netflix for one month.

Watch all of the content that you need to get through on Netflix, then cancel it and switch to Disney+.

Then watch what you want on there, and move on to a third service, and then a fourth after that.

After those four months, switch back to Netflix and enjoy all of the new content.

You can then keep cycling through these three or four services indefinitely.

It means you don’t miss out on any content, and you’re only paying for one service each month – rather than multiple.

STREAMING BILL TRICK #3 – PLAN PLANNING

Thirdly, check if you’re actually getting what you’re paying for.

Take Netflix, for example.

NETFLIX PRICES AND PERKS – HOW MUCH ARE YOU PAYING?

Here's what you need to know...

Netflix Standard with Ads

Price: £4.99 / $6.99

  • Ad-supported, all but a few movies and TV shows available, unlimited mobile games
  • Watch on 2 supported devices at a time
  • Watch in 1080p (Full HD)
  • Download on 2 supported devices at a time

Netflix Standard

Price: £10.99 / $15.49

  • Unlimited ad-free movies, TV shows, and mobile games
  • Watch on 2 supported devices at a time
  • Watch in 1080p (Full HD)
  • Download on 2 supported devices at a time
  • Option to add 1 extra member who doesn’t live with you

Netflix Premium

Price: £17.99 / $22.99

  • Unlimited ad-free movies, TV shows, and mobile games
  • Watch on 4 supported devices at a time
  • Watch in 4K (Ultra HD) + HDR
  • Download on 6 supported devices at a time
  • Option to add up to 2 extra members who don’t live with you
  • Netflix spatial audio

The top Netflix plan is Premium, which costs £17.99 in the UK and $22.99 in the US.

And its biggest perk is the ability for you to watch 4K Ultra HD content – of which Netflix has plenty.

However, you need to make sure that you’re genuinely seeing a 4K picture.

If you don’t have a 4K TV, you won’t get a 4K picture even if you’re paying for a 4K Netflix plan.

Let’s say you do have a 4K TV: if you’re using an Amazon Fire Stick and you bought the cheapest model that doesn’t support 4K, you won’t get a 4K picture either.

And if you’re only streaming on a smartphone, you almost certainly don’t need a 4K plan.

Consider dropping your subscription down a tier or two to save some cash.

The Sun recently revealed how you could save as much as £84 in the Uk or $90 in the US over a year just by dropping from Premium to Standard.

DON'T THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY

Here’s the advice from The Sun’s tech expert Sean Keach

TV is great – and worth paying for.

But don’t let yourself be crushed by the weight of ever-growing streaming bills.

Take a look at all of the services you’re paying for.

Add them up and see how much you’re forking out over the course of a year.

Chances are, it’s way more than you’d like.

And it won’t stop there: those bills will keep on climbing as services continue to raise their prices in the coming months and years.

It might just be a wake-up call to cut those streaming bills with some of these simple tricks.

The beauty of it is: if you don’t like your news high-savings life, you can always switch back to the old way in an instant.

But by trying out a new way of streaming, you just might find yourself saving some cash and not missing relying on loads of premium services.

You’ve got nothing to lose by trying it out – and everything to gain.

And if you’re willing to watch ads, you’ll be able to save even more with the cheapest Netflix plan.

The Sun calculated that dropping to the entry-level ads plan would let you keep an extra £156 or $192 each year.
