Pattaya residents were left fuming after two brazen thieves swiped 60 metres of electrical cable worth 27,000 baht on Christmas Day. The audacious theft occurred behind the Pattaya Indoor Sports Stadium, prompting Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai to demand immediate action from officials and investigators.
Huay Yai Police acted swiftly, conducting a thorough investigation at the scene and nabbing the culprits shortly after. Legal proceedings are now underway, but the crime has reignited frustrations among locals over escalating thefts and a perceived lack of enforcement.
“The punishment should be severe,” one exasperated resident declared. “These thieves are stealing public property!”
Others highlighted an alarming trend: individuals reportedly cutting power lines and grounding wires from transformers, burning them in secluded areas near the Pattaya court.
“They do this multiple times a day,” the local added. “I’ve reported it to the police, but they claim there’s nothing they can do. It’s disheartening. We’re left choking on toxic smoke daily around Soi Pattaya Park. Maybe the Mayor of Pattaya should intervene.”
Another resident voiced concern over repeated break-ins.
“Can we see the thieves’ faces? Our office has been robbed five times, and we’re still hunting down the culprits.”
The incident sheds light on a troubling pattern of theft and vandalism plaguing the area. Frustrated citizens are calling for stronger enforcement and decisive action from authorities to restore public confidence, reported Pattaya Mail.
