MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – On Tuesday, Nov. 5, voters chose former United States President Donald Trump as President Elect.
Congressman Michael Guest of Mississippi’s 3rd Congressional District was in the Queen City on Wednesday and News 11 wanted his reaction to the election results.
“Exciting night for the whole country last night to see the election called the election that was called on election night after Pennsylvania finally called for President Trump. For him to come out and give that victory speech. We know the Senate has flipped from Democrat, controlled to the Republican, and everything that I see it looks like the Republicans are going to keep the majority in the House. So that gives us both branches or both houses of Congress plus the White House, and so that gives us the opportunity to really change the direction of the country, says Guest.
He went on to say that this was a resounding response from the American people.
“I think that was a mandate. You saw that President Trump is not only going to win the electoral vote easily, but he’s going to win the popular vote. We’re going to flip the Senate, we’re going to keep control of the House. So I think that shows that people want conservatives to govern, they want to return to the successful policies of the previous Trump administration, and so I’m excited to serve in January when President Trump is sworn into office and to begin moving his agenda forward,” Guest said.
The congressman also believes Republicans were able to win with such a large majority because of the choices President Elect Trump made to side with him.
“We know what President Trump did four years ago. We know what he’s going to do again. I think he made a good choice for vice president in JD Vance. I think as more of the American public began to know his story, I think they were very confident about that choice compared to Kamala Harris, I thought the more they learned about him, the less confident they were that he had the ability to serve as vice president. And you’re right, you see that people as Tulsi Gabbard ended it the Democratic ticket for president came and supported Donald Trump, RFK Junior who was going to run as an independent came on board. And so Trump was able to build this broad coalition of people who had previously supported Democrats, people who identified as independents, brings these people into his camp and that’s why he was so successful last night,” Guest said.
Guest was also on the ballot, but was unopposed. He still wants to thank all his supporters for giving him the opportunity to represent them in the nation’s capital.
