Matheus Cunha says it was “fantastic” to hear the atmosphere inside Molineux on Boxing Day after what has been a difficult campaign up until the last few weeks.
A 2-0 victory over Manchester United under the lights was the Old Gold’s most impressive outing at Molineux this term and represented two wins from two for new head coach Vitor Pereira. Cunha himself opened the scoring by netting directly from a corner, before setting up Hee Chan Hwang for the sealer, and Cunha praised the new head coach for the energy he has brought to Wolves in a short space of time.
On a big win on Boxing Day
“I feel the fans have to have days like this to enjoy and be happy. After the game it was great to hear them all so happy.
“When someone new comes in, they bring a lot of things with them, and with Vitor it’s no different. He has been 18 years old with the dream of coming and leading a team in the Premier League. We feel excited about these kinds of things, because we can feel the energy, how they push us to be better. We can show everyone that we are all in this together.”
On Pereira’s impact
“It’s the energy, when someone new comes in, those with the dream will start winning. They start to handle it better. Then everyone feels they have to show him.
“In the end it was a bit difficult with Gary. He was very good against us and took the team last season to another level. It happens, the team goes down a bit. I don’t think it was just his fault, but it can happen. Vitor came in with new energy, with the new dreams, and then everyone tried to impress him. These little details then help us on a pitch. You can show all the energy changes.”
On his goal from a corner
“The staff came to me and said at the corner, shoot to the goal, don’t go over, shoot to the goal, because something might happen. They’re very good at telling me this kind of detail and I’m so happy to take it well, the corner, and it’s my first goal with a corner. I hope I can do more.”

About his role in the other
“For me, the most important thing is to help teammates. With Gary, I started to become a leader in the group. He was someone who taught me very well how to be a leader. With Victor, it’s no different. He came to me, he talked to me and he constantly pushing me to do these details. I feel happy because I can help my teammates. Honestly, when you do this kind of thing and see the happiness on Channy’s face, you feel happy because you did your job. .”
