The woman was arrested on Wednesday for the June death that occurred in her and her boyfriend’s home in Monteverde, Florida.
On June 17, an ambulance responded to Martin’s home after receiving a 911 call that reported an unresponsive child, NBC affiliate WSAZ reported.
The paramedics alerted the sheriff’s office after looking at Jamaria Sessions’, Martin’s boyfriend’s daughter’s, condition.
The EMS personnel discovered bruises, abrasions, burns, and bite marks on the young girl’s body.
According to a medical examiner, all of the marks found on the nine-year-old’s body were consistent with abuse, leading law enforcement to obtain a search warrant for video from the family’s in-home security cameras.
Video evidence from June 15 allegedly shows Martin holding the leash to the 103-pound Rottweiler, which killed Sessions.
Martin allegedly fed the dog commands as it fatally attacked the young girl.
Later in the video, Martin reportedly could be seen kicking, dragging, and shaking the lifeless girl.
Law enforcement said Martin could be heard saying, “I’m fixin’ to kill her” in the video.
Detectives claimed that Martin continuously abused the child based on hours of footage, interviews, and text messages.
Investigators stated that Martin would force the girl to do prolonged wall sits and run in place as punishment.
Martin allegedly also physically abused Sessions’ by punching, pinching, and hitting her, as well as striking her with various objects.
A medical examiner deemed Sessions’ death as a homicide after concluding that she died from multiple blunt injuries to the head, torso, and extremities and thermal injury of the right foot.
The Sheriff’s office called it “the worst case of aggravated child abuse we’ve ever seen,” according to Fox affiliate WOFL.
“That’s a baby, a beautiful little girl now gone,” Althea Chenault, Sessions’ grandmother, told the outlet.
Sessions lived in the family home with Martin and her two other children, according to People.
Martin’s 17-year-old daughter allegedly told police that Sessions was treated differently from the other children and that Martin, Sessions’ father, and herself were able to discipline the child.
Martin’s daughter said other children “also had permission to physically punish Jamaria,” and that she was forced to sleep on a “crib-sized” mattress.
Both Martin and Sessions’ father, Lojuan, have a criminal record of dealing or posession of illegal narcotics and exposing their children to dangerous situations.
In 2020, Lojuan was sentenced to five years in prison for trafficking in MDMA and two counts of felony child neglect. He was released from prison in October 2023.
Martin now sits in Lake County jail without bond, and Sessions’ father, Lojuan Sessions, has also been arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child.
