This is the day of Datta Jayanti. It is a day devoted to Lord Datta who is considered the combined form of the Tridevas: Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, or Shiva. He was born on a full moon day in Margashirsha month and this year falls on 14 December 2024, Saturday. All the troubles in the life of the devotees are destroyed and happiness and prosperity is attained by paying homage to Lord Dattatreya on this day.
Lord Dattatreya is worshipped as Parabrahmamurti, Sadguru and Shrigurudevdutt. According to religious beliefs, Lord Dattatreya was incarnated for the merger of the three of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Therefore, he is considered in the form of Tridev. Lord Dattatreya had 24 gurus, who included natural elements and various creatures. In addition to eight natural elements like earth, water, fire, air, sea, moon, sky, sun, etc., he also considered creatures like moth, fish, crow, deer, snake, elephant, spider, blacksmith, child, prostitute Pingla etc. as his Guru.
His message was that whatever knowledge we get, it should be taken in a judicious manner and every person should consider himself as his Guru, who guides us in life. Recognizing the importance of Guru, Lord Dattatreya kept himself ready to learn in every situation.
Lord Datta was born on the full moon day of the month of Margashirsha. It is believed that on this day, by worshipping Lord Dattatreya, all the desires of a person are satisfied. Also, if somebody has Pitra Dosh then by chanting his mantras gives him freedom from Pitra Dosh. This day specially is an occasion to gain knowledge and recognize the glory of the Guru.
The three heads and six arms of Lord Dattatreya proved that he is a combination of the Tridev. At this stage, he forms the elements of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. His three heads symbolize Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, who are believed to be the creators of life, sustenance, and destruction.
Worshiping Lord Datta brings not only mental peace but also prosperity and success in life. Chanting his mantras removes Pitra Dosh, Kundali Dosh and various types of mental troubles. Happiness and peace come into the life of the worshipper and he moves forward with determination on the path of his life.
Datta Jayanti is one of the important festivals of Hinduism, which is a day to recognize the glory of Lord Dattatreya and his knowledge. Worshiping Lord Dattatreya on this day not only liberates one from Pitra Dosh but also brings prosperity and happiness and peace in one’s life.
