National Farmers Day is celebrated every year on 23 December in India, which is an important day to honor the tireless hard work and contribution of farmers. Chaudhary Charan Singh was born on 23 December 1902 in a farmer family of Uttar Pradesh. His life was associated with the problems of farmers, and he always worked for the betterment of farmers. He was also a freedom fighter and considered the interests of farmers paramount in Indian politics. His policies strengthened the agricultural sector and made many reforms for farmers, such as land reforms, minimum support price (MSP) and improvements in irrigation systems.

National Farmers Day began in 2001, when the Government of India declared this day in honor of the contribution of Chaudhary Charan Singh towards farmers. The objective of this day is to recognize the problems of farmers, understand their struggles, and take steps for their welfare.
Agriculture is one of the major sectors in India, where about 50% of the people depend on agriculture for their livelihood. Hence, National Farmers Day is an important occasion to understand the contribution and role of farmers in India.
