A tragic accident occurred on an expressway involving a car that collided with the rear of a six-wheel truck equipped with a crane for repairing streetlights. The incident resulted in the car overturning and the driver being killed at the scene.
The accident took place today, December 25, on the Mahanakhon Expressway, opposite the Lumpini toll booth, near the Tobacco Factory in Khlong Toei District, Bangkok. Upon receiving the report, police and emergency responders swiftly arrived at the location, accompanied by volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.
The scene of the incident was a four-lane expressway, just before the exit to Rama IV Road, where the white Honda Brio Amaze, registered in Nakhon Ratchasima with the plate number ขง 1638, was found overturned with its wheels facing skyward. The engine had been ejected from the vehicle, the roof was severely damaged, and debris was scattered across the area.
Emergency personnel discovered the body of the driver, a man estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, trapped inside the wreckage. Rescue tools were employed to retrieve the body, but no identification documents were found on him.
The body was subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Police General Hospital.
Nearby, on the far right lane, stood a red six-wheel Hino truck, bearing the registration number 53-3886 from Bangkok, belonging to the Expressway Authority. The truck exhibited significant rear-end damage, and the engine of the car was lodged beneath it.
Police documented the scene, collected vehicle parts, and cleared the area to prevent traffic congestion.
Investigations revealed that Expressway Authority officials had parked the truck in the far right lane to repair streetlights, with hazard lights activated and orange traffic cones placed behind it. Suddenly, the car approached at high speed and collided violently with the truck’s rear, resulting in a loud crash before overturning and causing the driver’s death, reported KhaoSod.
According to Chaipat, a police officer, investigations are ongoing, focusing on interviewing those involved and reviewing CCTV footage from the scene as evidence. Efforts are also being made to trace the vehicle’s registration to identify the deceased driver before concluding the accident report.
