A 33 year old man in Satun province has been arrested following accusations of sexually assaulting his 12 year old daughter. Law enforcement officers, led by Seksit Pragotchue, police chief of Mueang Satun, executed a warrant at a residence in Kuan Pho, Mueang Satun. The arrest took place yesterday, December 17, with the warrant issued the day before.
The man’s wife reported the crime to police after learning about the incident, stating that her daughter was assaulted by her father while she was out running errands in the morning. The victim has since been taken to Satun Hospital for a medical examination as evidence is gathered to support the case. Seksit said they have denied bail for the father due to the seriousness of the allegations.
“The case is sensitive due to its impact on the victim’s mental state and the suspect’s history of drug use has influenced our decision to oppose bail.”
The suspect faces charges of sexually assaulting a child under 13 years old, a crime committed regardless of the child’s consent and involving threats and force. The police emphasised the severity of the crime, considering the victim’s inability to resist and the fact that the perpetrator is a direct relative.
In response to the situation, Wilaiwan Suwanraksa from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security in Satun has intervened to provide support. Social workers are visiting the family home to assess the child’s living conditions and ensure her safety. The ministry has also taken custody of the child to provide initial care and psychological support, reported KhaoSod.
The investigation has revealed that the suspect has a history of drug addiction and has been abusing his daughter for about a month. This information has further complicated the case and highlighted the need for ongoing child welfare involvement.
